I ordered the Mexican Combo ($10.95), which was a nice mix of some Mexican classics; it came with a tasty hard shelled taco with classic but good ingredients, a pretty good enchilada, rice, and beans. I also tried the Western Omelette ($12.65), which was very good as well - again, standard but quality ingredients, and the egg was super fluffy. The Frontier Sweet Roll was a delicious and large cinnamon roll for only $2.75. All of these options were great value for the portion sizes, making them affordable for the UNM students at the campus across the street. The restaurant is very large with lots of seating. There is lots of interesting Western-themed decor throughout, and the place has a very old school kind of vibe. You order up front and they show the order number on the electronic sign at the front when it's ready to be picked up. The service is pretty friendly and the service speed was pretty quick. We went to this restaurant based on numerous recommendations - what we weren't prepared for is that it's more like a food hall - you order at the counter and find a seat and wait for your number to be called. There are monitors throughout the restaurant that show numbers so it's easy to know when yours is ready. This is definitely an inexpensive dining option - the food was meh. The highlight of the meal were the tortillas and cinnamon rolls - and we saw many folks purchasing the tortillas to go. My husband and I tried the frontier burrito, fiesta burger, the top chop steak, along with a cinnamon roll. My husband said the burrito and burger were ok. The top chop steak was essentially a hamburger patty which I wasn't expecting and it was VERY salty. The accompanying salad was your regular bag-o-salad variety. The beverage station was nice - you could pick from several selections and customize flavors. This isn't in the best part of town and in addition to a large unhoused presence - inside and outside - there is a large armed security presence which just made us uneasy generally. I ate there two times in two days. Each time the food was extant. The last trip in we got 2 dozen tortillas. The layout is somewhere around 4 rooms filled with tables. I don't know how many people can set but probably over 200. Nothing fancy. Just tables and chairs. This is a place you need to visit if not just for the experience. The food is excellent. He told me about Frontier and I remembered it for a specific reason. One of my favorite breakfast haunts in Texas is Jim's. And much like your favorite ride at an amusement park markers along the ceiling saying your this far away from the front of the line. Sit down; wait for your number to flash on the screens and go pick up your food. Of course I over ordered; that's why yall come back to hear the so many details while I maintain my 30 waist in Wranglers. Where to start on this one... Ordered a two egg plate with a local favorite carne adovada (red chili pulled pork), green chili hash browns with cheese. Served with beautiful handmade flour tortillas! Pork was a nice flavor and texture; they forgot my chili on the taters. You're thinking just eggs? If you're in the know head over by the numerous drink dispensers in the main dining room and find the warm house made salsa akin to ranchero in my state. OMG, so flavorful. And then the over ordering tidbits. Why not have a small onion rings and a cinnamon roll! I found the roll a bit too dense and it could have used a ton more butter and icing. Do not let the location or the interior looks deter you from eating here. This is an Albuquerque staple and despite the absolute terrible decor and area, the food is absolutely superb. This is New Mexican dining at its finest. It's quick, the Chile is spicy, and it's FRESH. This time, my husband picked a couple of things up to go and even then it was good. That's the true test of a restaurants food. Is it almost as good at home as it is at the restaurant? Well this one is and almost always is. The tortillas are made fresh all day everyday and are so light and fluffy. They pair perfectly with the green chile stew (which we love so much we constantly try to recreate it with no success). I personally love the southwest hash browns which are crispy hash browns absolutely smothered in cheese and green chile (you will never have a hangover again eating these). Top that off with the sweet rolls (which are frozen and just microwave perfectly at about 35-40 seconds). You will never look at cinnamon rolls the same after you eat one of these. Literally the worst...First time passing through Albuquerque and found this place on yelp. After ordering our food from a less than enthusiastic blonde lady she literally walks away and starts heating up a cinnamon roll for the cashier next to her. Doesn't say anything. No receipt with our number. We have to ask the cashier next to her on the other side if we were waiting for something or what's going on. Went here twice with work colleagues. It is a laid back New Mexican style diner. We went on the early side of dinner the first time and then breakfast the second time. The quick service, easy going atmosphere and delicious food make this a go to spot for me for my next visit. At dinner I had the green chili stew. I am partial to green chilis having spent some of my formative younger days living in Albuquerque. It had the perfect amount of chili zing and plenty of ground pork. It was served with flour tortillas, which sadly I did not sample. Gluten is not my friend. Next time I would just ask for corn tortillas. For breakfast, I got carne adovada with eggs, hash browns and corn tortillas. I adore carne adovada and had it at least twice times over the week I was in town. Eggs were cooked perfectly, the hash browns had the correct proportion of crispiness to softness and I got the corn tortillas fried. I think I would get them steamed next time.
