I came in for brunch and ordered food and was told I can't sit in the restaurant, meanwhile i was not even welcomed into the restaurant, when i walked in i had to figure things out for myself. WOW! I wandered into this place while staying in downtown Nashville, and I'm so glad I did. Very cool place, and maybe the best staff of anywhere I've been for a while. I am very picky when it comes to omelettes, and the Broadbent Omelette here was unbelievable. The vegetables it contained were cooked in a delicious way which makes this engineer wish I had more of a culinary vocabulary. Bloody Mary and coffee were excellent. Jordan and Kelly were incredible, and deserve a huge raise. They both expertly managed being very efficient, friendly, and helpful while being very busy. I highly recommend this place. read more

Frothy Monkey was a great pick me up after a long night. While not having any food on our trip, it had to be good because the wait was over 45 minutes. The lattes was through the roof as we tried the S'more's and Rosemary Honey and were both were excellent. Frothy Monkey is an awesomely named coffee house with several locations in Nashville. We went to the 5th Avenue North spot near our hotel and had a decent experience for breakfast. The space appears small as you walk in, with somewhat limited seating before you get to the counter, but a much larger room opens up deeper in, so bring everyone! I had a Biscuit with egg whites and cheese which was awfully nice of them to make me since that particular sandwich isn't on their menu. It tasted great, though it wasn't my favorite biscuit texture I've had in the south. I accompanied this with a side of potatoes which also looked great, but the potatoes were not quite crispy which had me thinking they had been prepped a while ago, but they did taste good. (Once I added salt and pepper.) They have two coffee options - a traditional bold/dark which I got and which was really good. (I asked for it served in a mug which they happily obliged.) They had a more floral/fruity one too plus all kinds of special lattes and teas. My wife had the jasmine mint loose leaf tea which she thought was delightful, light and delicious. It was served with a carafe and the leaves separate in a steeping cup. She also ordered the Oatmeal with fruit that looked like it had been cut a while ago. She found it to be thick and hard to eat and she needed to ask for more almond milk to loosen it up a bit. They accommodated it and even steamed it for her. There are monkeys everywhere which makes any experience more enjoyable! We arrived before 10am and there was no line so service was quick, but then it got super crowded, so we got lucky! Also they make their own gluten free bread (which my gluten-free wife didn't have, but good to know there's a house-made option which is often more exciting then a store-bought loaf of something...) This was a fine and quick stop which served our needs on the way to our first tourist destination that morning in Nashville...had we more time to go anywhere, we'd probably have chosen one of the other spots in town, but it's worth stopping in for the coffee! read more

I needed a place to hang out and get some work done for a few hours before my hotel room was ready and this was the perfect place! The food and coffee were delicious too. I got an iced rosemary honey latte which I would've liked to taste a more of the rosemary flavor, but was still good. The sourdough bread for the PMP sandwich was so freaking good. The sandwich itself was also super flavorful. They have a backroom that's pretty big and perfect to come sit for a few hours. I had to try this the lemon blueberry scone that I read about on Yelp but wasn't enthused there were no blueberry bits inside and no lemony flavor. Only for our waitress to bring our bill. When we said we hadn't received our food, she just casually walked away to check. No apology, no comment. So we waited some more - all in all about an hour and 15 minutes. Food finally arrived and it was cold. We never saw our waitress again. She went to the bar and just chatted away with people sitting there. Maybe the food was good, who knows? But the experience was terrible. Then we told the manager and the hostess and they didn't even offer to comp something off our bill. They offered us a free piece of cake instead and just said she was new. Seriously??? Mildly disappointing food, but very friendly service. The wait was going to be 20 minutes for a party of one: me, so I opted for take-out which was very quick. It was quick because they didn't toast my toast! I ordered the Avocado toast, and while the bread was *good*, it tasted weird not toasted. In addition to avocado, there were a bunch of other delights on top of this untoasted bread: caramelized onions, carrots, radishes, broccoli, feta, sage, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some things. It was okay. Then I had ordered the derby sage grits, but they were out of them, so I settled for cheddar grits. They were pretty bland, so I dressed them with all the other goods on top of the avocado untoasted bread to try to add some flavor. The coffee was fine. Not out of this world, but fair. Nice people who work there. I would try it again perhaps, but I would order something different. Yet another disappointing breakfast here. Coffee was great, toast was very good, strawberry jam was good. Eggs were a disaster. I like my eggs VERY soft, even runny. I understand that not everyone likes them this way, but I do. I ALWAYS specify this when I order either a omelette or scrambled eggs. Occasionally, the waiter doesn't communicate this. Then the fault lies with the waiter. But, more often than not, it is the cook who can't or won't cook them this way. This is unacceptable to this customer. I hate rubbery eggs! Eggs should NEVER be cooked on a flat-top. They should ALWAYS be cooked in a skillet. That is the only way to control the temperature properly. When the heat is too high the eggs end up rubbery. I have now tried several times to eat breakfast here. It is always disappointing. I recommend their coffee and pastries but advise you to avoid the eggs. read more

This is another one I picked just by the name... "Frothy Monkey", I just had to! It made me think first of coffee (which I love and needed that morning), and fun, out of the ordinary type of place. We walked in, and immediately there's a "Welcome" sign, in multicolor chalk. Right underneath are the menus (drinks, food, desserts...) You look it over and then move to the counter to order. The line can get long but they work fast to keep it moving. Everything you want just place your order right there and then, if not, you'll have to stand in line again. So, look at the menu really well, and at all the cookies and pastries they have on display. They offer just about everything to drink... of course coffee (latte, cappuccino, Americano, etc.), but also tea, mimosas, bloody mary, beer, wine, cocktails.... The mimosas come in two sizes, single (served in a cute "old style" champagne glass) or double (served in a red wine glass). Obviously we chose the double. They do their mimosas just right. Not too much juice and strong. The Latte is served on a generous size cup, with a cute design on top. They use really good coffee and strong, the perfect cup to wake you up. Drinks are picked up right after you order to your right. Food is delivered to your table, they give you a "monkey" number and that's how they know which one is your order. This does not take long to be prepared. We ordered the Hummus - still not sure how I feel about it. It was good but it was lacking seasoning/ flavor. I did appreciate that it wasn't all garlic like some I've had. This comes with either corn chips or veggies. My friend ordered the California - 2 Fried eggs* over medium, avocado, sprouts, atop sourdough toast. House-made salsa. The salsa was delicious, and by looking around this is one of their most popular dishes. I opted for the Architect Omelet with ham, American Cheese, and mushrooms. It comes with toast, butter and jelly on the side. Big portion, perfectly melted cheese, really good breakfast choice. My friend decided dessert was needed so she went back, got a BIG chocolate chip cookie and we were set to go. Place is clean and comfortable. It has an upstairs area too, so it fits a good amount of people, which is good because they get busy. Food is fresh and prepared quickly, and they serve dishes and drinks for all times of day.
