I have never been treated so poorly. My boyfriend and I choose to come here for dinner because they had a vegan option for us to eat. We arrived at 5:30, sat down within 10 minutes. We ordered out drinks, which was water, 20 minutes later, we finally got our water. We order our appetizers and drinks, a glass of wine, tequila mule, bruschetta, and a minestrone soup. We sat watching everyone around us get their food, we figured they were busy, an hour later we finally gotten our food. Our bruschetta was ice cold, and the soup had a hair in it. The waiter, no fault on his part, did everything he could to keep us there, but we were pretty grossed out by the long black hair in our soup. We just kindly asked to close, we made a comment to cancel our entrées. Unfortunately they never placed our entires, they assumed we were just snacking and drinking. At that point, we were a little upset. We tip the server, times are hard and he can't control the food quality. We well never be back. The manager should really do his job instead of sitting at the host desk. Overall it took is 2 hours for a appetizer and a glass of wine. No entrees. Just hairy soup. read more

I'm totally hooked on their Colorado Lamb medallions right now! I know, I know, it's an Italian restaurant, so instead of the potato and asparagus I substituted pasta with butter sauce and parm to go with the lamb. Push the mint jelly aside and ask for the sauce that normally comes with the asparagus on the plate. Excellent. We have been coming to Frugattis for over 15 years while we lived in Bakersfield. It a must go even to this day even though we moved to Orange County. My all time favorite has. Even the eggplant Parmesan so delicious. Today I started out with a house salad either the house vinaigrette and a passion fruit ice tea. They serve warm bread which is delicious dipped in table top olive oil, balsamic, chille flakes and Parmesan cheese. I ordered the spinach baked manicotti with marinara and alfredo sauce. We also got a side of meatballs and others in my party got spaghetti, tortellini, and penne pasta. For the four of us lunch was $123.00 with tip. We also had desert. The lemon Ricotta cheese cake. I would defiantly suggest saving room. Our waiter was really attentive and no complaints in food or atmosphere. If you are from Bakersfield or just visiting this place has always. Frugatti's is my favorite Italian restaurant in Bakersfield. Great recipes that you can tell have been passed down through family legacy. Every meal tastes like what you'd hope the Italian mother you never had would make you when you come home to visit. Try the Papo Pasta...my personal favorite. The Meatball Lasagna aint half bad either. I lived in Bakersfield for a while. Since I moved away, this is one of the few places that I truly miss. read more

We love this spot for lunch when feeling the need to indulge. They do have a nice selection of lighter fare dishes but c'mon its Italian food...lasagna, pasta, or pizza/calzones are a must. The vegetable lasagna is WONDERFUL and my husband can order a calzone with every meat imaginable and then covered in marinara. There is always plenty left for dinner. My one complaint is the service. We have had a fair share of great servers but the last couple of times have been pretty annoying. When the waitress says "oops" more than five times this is a bad sign. And compounding the problem is that the wait staff is visible the whole time. When you forget something twice and then go get yourself a drink and chat up your fellow servers while I'm sitting there watching you its beyond irritating. I was also excited...because hello, I was on a date!!!! I love the decor and ambiance and our waitress was nice and attentive but the food was blah. I also remember from past experinces that the bread was really good- yeah, not so much anymore. I didn't like my dish and he didn't enjoy his either. Perhaps we just both ordered the wrong dish. So when I had received some bad news regarding a close family member, my husband wanted to treat me to dinner to help me feel better. We asked to sit in your patio area and as we went to sit on one side we were told to sit on the other side. I didn't understand the difference but we complied. It was a Wednesday (1/24/18) and your place was not busy but we sat there for 25 minutes without water, bread or being asked to take our order; beverage or food. I was already emotionally upset so we decided to dine elsewhere. As I handed the menus back to one of the two hostesses, you could tell she had forgotten about us and felt badly but it was too late for me. How do you forget about your customers like that?? And no, I cannot return there to give you another chance. It was a terrible day to disappoint us. read more

Super tasty food, it's a shame I've only been here a few times. I don't eat Italian much and when I do, I've always been a Joseph's or Sorella's type. This place has always been delightful, though. My past visit, I ordered off of the fitness menu. I believe it's 500 calories or less, including pasta dishes. I ordered the chicken pesto pasta and it was amazing. The serving size was massive, I'm not sure how all that was only 500 calories or less, but I wasn't complaining. Meals come with delicious warm bread rolls and butter. We also ordered the bruschetta which was buttered too heavily for my liking, but the topping was delicious. It's close enough to work, can't wait for my next trip. read more

Frugatti's used to warrant four stars. Their current menu has dropped my favorite item. Their prices have gone way up. On my most recent visit, the kitchen delivered several particularly subpar meals to our table. I recently paid $21 for a chicken parm there. My wife and mother also ordered the same. The waitress returned to tell us they were all out--but they could approximate the chicken parm if we still wanted it. This amounted to a piece of boiled chicken with mozarella and tasteless red sauce on top. I couldn't tell if it was a marinara. But it was red. What they didn't do was approximate on the price. Still $21. It wasn't worth $10. If your kitchen can't make the order, don't charge full price for it. You figure out what it's worth and know that your honor is on the line. I have a suggestion for the bread: give us half as much but double the quality. I would take a two-thirds less if you could triple your bread-making ability. But if there's a next time I won't ask for bread at all. These large tasteless rolls do nothing for me but punch carbs into my gut. Perhaps a step up from Olive Garden but this is no Mama Tosca's. Fix those prices. Find the BLT pizza and put it back on the menu. read more

ONE OF THE WORST ITALIAN RESTAURANTS I HAVE BEEN TO. I can not emphasize this enough.. a $100 meal is definitely not worth it. Can't understand why people keep coming back here. I ordered the Lobster Ravioli, there was barely anything inside the ravioli and some of the raviolis didn't have anything inside of it. I only got 6 pieces of ravioli, crazy. Super skimped out on the meat inside of it and the meal overall. It tasted rubbery, seemed it was frozen and defrosted just like my little pizza pockets at home. I am bewildered at the food, as I have gone to many Italian restaurants not only in kern county but also in the area of Los Angeles, and this place was very disappointing especially the fact that it was quite pricy for its poor quality of food. My partner ordered a classic; chicken Alfredo fettuccine and it was so oily and made our stomach hurt after eating it. The tiramisu was quite delicious but presentation was definitely repulsive and needs to be improved. Our waiter was nice, he still got a good tip despite the food being a 1/10. read more

I remember when this place was one of the best Italian places Bakersfield had to offer. Sadly, that's all changed. They seem to be content with being just mediocre now. My family tried the wood fire pizza, chicken Alfredo, and some shrimp dish from the light menu. Unfortunately, it was light on everything except the price. Ordered this from Restaurant Runner. It arrived quickly, but I can see why. This food is disgusting. We got the appetizer sampler, which was just a handful of greasy crap thrown in a pizza box. The bottom of the box is completely soaked with oil. I got the tortellini alfredo, which is a garlic alfredo, and it's pretty bad. Frozen tortellini is a nono. The thing about good italian food is just simple, good ingredients, and try not to mess them up. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't make anything in-house here. I went on a Saturday late afternoon with my 90 year old mom, my sister and my niece. After about 3 minutes from walking in we were finally acknowledged as coming in. They sat us near the front door. The guy who asked us what we wanted to drink brought us our water and we waited another few minutes before being acknowledged by the blonde waitress that we were waiting to order. She never apologized for taking her time to take our order. We ordered an appetizer, a cup of soup, a salad and one pasta dish. The decorations are great and the bathroom is a 2 seater (small for the restaurant size) but cute. It may be popular with the locals (which my sister and neice were) but I won't be back there. The prices are too over priced and it took about 45 minutes to get a salad, soup and an appetizer served. This of course was after I got up from my seat and walked about 5 steps to the cashier and asked what was taking so long. The CSUBakersfield Roadrunner basketball team had come in to eat their pre-game meal (they had to have phoned in an order whil we had already ordered) as all of a sudden the wait staff started moving tables and chairs together and putting large plates on the tables. We had already been there about 20 minutes and still not served. The basketball players came in and ate like pigs and one table of 8 left about half their pasta and meatballs while others were waiting for their food, which seemed like a waste to me. There was one player who kept calling the water guys "mister, mister, bring me a bag", "mister mister, bring me a box". These "orders" were given after the coach had already walked out of the restaurant. I never heard him say please or thank you. Obviously there was either direct billing to the college or free dinner given as there was never an exchange of money for the bill or tip. I put a "hex" on the team to lose. Low and behold they lost by 1 point in overtime (I doubt it had anything to do with my hex, but I like to think so as they were rude!) About Frugatti's, the music on the overhead stereo system was authentic (Deano and Frank). The food tasted like chain food and if I EVER go there again, it will be that I gave up my 19 year sobriety and sat at the bar! The waitress came by at the end to get my AMEX card and quietly said "sorry" but that was all she said. She could have offered a free gelato or spummoni ice cream for the delay, and totally being ignored but nothing ever was mentioned. I didn't even bother asking for the manager on duty as I figured I'd write a review and let others know that service SUCKS here! Save yourself a headache and do NOT go there. read more

Okay so... this place is FANTASTIC! I decided to stop here on my way back from my tour at crystal caves. My dinner here was just what I needed after a long day. The food is amazing, so much flavor and everything was very fresh. The eggplant was perfectly cooked, the fettuccine had the perfect flavor. Best of all the service here is amazing and real made this a 5 star place to have a tranquil dinner to end the perfect day! Lauren was my server and she was perfect. every time a co-worker of mine would drive up coffee road we'd pass frugatti's and wonder "what's that all about?!..." so, for lunch one day, we gathered up the troops and had lunch. the decor in the place was of maybe the 1950s? pictures, italian sayings, and italian colors that made me feel like i was in a restaurant in italia. in the hallway towards the restrooms, sophia loren's name was even painted along the wall. didn't know she was italian. i ordered the linguini in tomato cream sauce. the sauce was very flavorful. my co-worker ordered the eggplant parmigiana and had me taste it. wow, i wanted to trade her for my linguini. if i return to this spot, i know what to order next.. read more

We went there last week. It was okay. The atmosphere and service were really good. The food was so-so. The water was disgusting. It tasted like it was from a pond. I had them get it from two different sources, (the bar gun and the faucet). There is something very bad with the water they are getting. That's also the water they cook with so needless to say we all felt a little queasy eating it. The meal ended up being about 100.00 which was too high for that experience. Normally this is my favorite place but this was my first bad experience. Ordered the Theresas Favorite Tortellini but with Alfredo sauce instead of the normal sauce. Waitress brought it out with the wrong sauce. I told her I had ordered it with the Alfredo and she just said "ok," no apology or anything. So I asked for a side of Alfredo sauce to use. She brings it five minutes later and I begin to eat and the entire dish is cold. I ask the waitress to please take it to the kitchen to heat. She does so and brings it back and the entire plate was filled to the brim with Alfredo sauce! I mean THE ENTIRE dish/plate was filled, it just looked like a bowl of Alfredo sauce. It was absolutely disgusting! Worst of all, the dish was still cold! Obviously she did not heat it and just poured a bunch of sauce on it. I did not appreciate that they thought it was ok to tamper with my plate sent back for heating and just flood it with sauce that I did not ask for! This is normally my favorite meal and I couldn't even stomach it. At the end of the meal the waitress comes and looks at my still full plate and just asks if we need boxes. Never an apology, never asked why I didn't eat my dish, didn't offer to have the manager take it off the bill - nothing was done to make it right. If you would've told me that I would go to Frugatti's and not eat my meal I would've said you're crazy - but we ended up paying $23 for a plate of uneaten pasta (or rather a plate of Alfredo sauce!). read more

We decided to go here for our wedding anniversary dinner as we heard all the talk about it being wonderful. Well, i made the reservation online as requested and we got there a few minutes early. We were seated immediately but that is where the service stopped. We waited about 15 minutes for a server to take our order. When she did she apologized for the fact that we were unattended but she didn't know we were one of her tables. She did a good job of serving us which was good. The food, on the other hand was not that good. One of the sides was stuffed mushrooms and they were so cooked that I couldn't even tell what they were stuffed with. The baked chicken breast was tender but was a little too "baked". It had a lot of charring on it. And then about halfway through the meal I got a text from the online reservations that our reservation was cancelled. Something was amiss with the system. We were disappointed with the overall experience and probably won't be visiting this restaurant again. read more
