Called in my order for pick up. Tried something new, big mistake, I ordered chicken Parmesan. Got home took few bites, no chicken in either bite. So decided to cut thru the whole entree are where the chicken Parmesan and never found one piece of chicken! Not one piece!! I paid good money for this dish of breaded tomato sauce it was so disappointing, I've never experienced anything like this, even the clam chowder was way to thick and had very little flavor mostly flour blah taste. I had been craving some authentic Italian food and after searching on yelp, my husband and I decided to try this place. We came in on a Saturday night and the wait wasn't so bad (10min), we sat on the patio and our server was with us right away. He offered us our menus and took our drink order right away he asked us if we were ready to place our order, we told him it was our first time here and needed a bit more time to look over the menu. When he came over with our drinks, we were ready to place our order I opted for the lasagna and my I husband had the chicken garlic Alfredo fettuccine. He asked us what salad and soup we wanted, not letting us know that it didn't come with what we had ordered. (& not knowing that they were going to charge us extra) I had the house salad and he had a veggie soup. Overall, the food was delicious and besides the fact that he didn't tell us that salad and soup were extra the service was great. He was very attentive and brought us our food right away despite how busy it was. But I'm giving this place a 4 star because our waiter took advantage of the fact that we didn't know that the soup or salad are extra. One of my favorite restaurants in Bakersfield! The food is excellent as well as their service. The chicken things appetizer is a must try. I also recommend their garlic chicken calzone, it's my all time favorite and what I order most when dining there. They also have great salads , pizzas and pasta dishes. I recommend their chicken fettuccine it's very tasty. Everything is so good that you really can't go wrong no matter what you order off of their menu. It's a good spot in Bakersfield for Italian themed food. The service by the waitresses is always great, hostess seem to have an attitude most of the time. The lamb w/garlic mashed potatoes & asparagus is always a good choice. Pizza, ravioli, or any "traditional " Italian dishes can be a bit salty OR overcooked most of the time. We came to Frugattis because we had some people here from out of town who are Italian. They are usually pretty picky eaters and I have been here long ago so remember this place is pretty good. This place is actually extremely too good every single thing we ordered was perfect and I'm super picky they made some tweaks to my food. Everything came out great. Portions were huge and we even took leftovers home. It was my boyfriend's birthday that day so on our way out we grab two or three different types of pie slices. I have been long time customers of Frugatti's and was so disappointed when I made a reservation for 12, we were sat in the patio. I was not told we would be in the patio with no AC! It was a hi of 100 degrees today and we did not enjoy our dinner due to the extreme heat! We were all sweating and could not wait to get out of there. My wife and I recently decided to give this a place a try, but we were a little skeptical as we wanted take-out, and take-out just doesn't taste as great as dinning in sometimes. Their little pizza shop in Shafter was my absolute favorite. In fact, my sister (back in the 90's) worked here and would often bring back slices of unsold pizza. Her favorite, and mine as well, was their peanut butter chocolate chip pizza - yum! Hey Ralph - consider bringing this one back to Frugatti's someday! :) Frugatti's has recently had a renovation to the outside. It's updated and nicely decorated. Yes, it's still a strip mall, but definitely has a nice old-world feel to it that is pleasant. What I especially love about Frugatti's is the ability to be as fancy as you want it to be, or as casual as you want. They don't discriminate! If you want a private romantic dinner, they can offer that! If you want a larger private room that's a casual birthday dinner - they have that to. Their ability to cater to all clientele must be the reason they are still here. Customer service, folks - it's always a winner! I've never had a bad dish here. Never! But if you want something special definitely opt for the creamy and rich Theresa's Tortelloni. Rich sun-dried tomatoes and a thick cream sauce. Forget the diet and live a little - this will help you. A surprising favorite for me was the bacon wrapped asparagus. Holy moly were these delectable bites the best thing I've had in a long while! Now, here's the menu item that seals the deal on Frugatti's - their Beef Braciole ala Basilicata. Seriously, order it. Don't think twice. From the menu " Thin strips of beef, rolled with garlic, Italian parsley, fresh parmesan, and thinly sliced prosciutto. Browned then simmered in tomato sauce. Served over pappardelle pasta with our homemade Bolognese sauce..." Seriously, how can you not love everything about this? It truly is a dish that is made with love and care. It also can take some time to make so order it with that in mind. This dish will instantly transport you to Italy. Frugatti's has made a place in Bakersfield dining. Found this place while traveling for business based on yelp reviews. Didn't disappoint. I started out with the clam chowder. Probably should have gone with a cup as the bowl was big! It was delicious. Lots of clans in it. So many clam chowders are like potato soup with a few clams. Not this place. Would have been a nice added touch if a cube of butter was melting on the top. Went with the Papa's. Penne with sausage and red sauce. It was good. Big portion. I took more than 1/2 with me. Sauce had a little kick. Not used to paying $18 for a dinner like this. $14 would have been more in line. Was given bread with the main coarse. Waitress forgot to bring out with soup. All good. The bread wasn't the strongest part of the meal (was dry and reminded me of church bread). Good service though she forgot my bread. All and all good experience. Second time at Frugatti's My wife and I have returned to Frugatti's after our disastrous first experience. This time, our waitress was much better. She wasn't a smart ass the entire time. We ordered the Frugatti's sirloin and the chicken ravioli. We were pleasantly surprised at the food this time. It was fresh and not microwaved. Looks weren't as deceiving as last time but there were still issues. The steak was good but over cooked and as a result, rated a 3/5 but the mashed potatoes were a 5/5. The chicken ravioli was drowned in sauce (See the pictures for a before and after) but smelled and tasted good. After one bite, a hair was found in the sauce. The waitress kindly removed the meals from the bill and had a new one made. The second one was actually a lot better than the original and made the first taste like it was microwaved and had sat out for a while while the steak cooked. The first one gets a review of 0/5 because of the hair and the second gets a 3/5. The sauce was actually very good and the dish would have gotten a 5 but the ravioli itself wasn't that great. Maybe they drown it sauce to cover the not so great ravioli. With that said, dessert was the best part of the meal, a raspberry cheese cake and a raspberry cheesecake gelato. The cheesecake was just cheesecake but their raspberry sauce took it from a 2/5 to a 6/5. It was spectacular. The gelato just tasted like an ordinary cheesecake but we love cheesecake so it gets a 4/5. Overall, the waitress was a very hardworking young lady who was nothing but accommodating. The service was much better the second time around but despite the food being fresh it was still not better than Olive Garden. If I was basing the review on the food itself it would get a 3/5, or just the service it would get a 4/5, but because of the hair in the ravioli this gets a 1/5. It is unacceptable for "the best Italian food in Bakersfield 2 years running" or any other restaurant to have part of another human being in they food they serve the public. Even worse, I suffered from food poisoning for 3 days including the day I ate the ravioli. I could not eat anything during that time because I would become violently ill. I know this meal was the cause because I had not eaten anything prior to it or following it. Having lived in Italy, this is far from what true Italian food is. We will not be going back to Frugatti's, ever. If I could give this restaurant a 0/5 I would. read more

Why have we lived in Bakersfield so long without trying Frugatti's? Big mistake. Even with all the nonsense about some virus, they still made us feel very comfortable coming in and getting seated. Our waiter was Andrew, and he was right on top of everything, right from the beginning. His first recommendation was for what to put on the bread. Excellent fresh rolls, by the way. We got the oil and vinegar he suggested, with parmesan. A great way to start off. My wife got the lobster ravioli, and loved it. The sauce was a sweet port reduction that had amazing flavor. I'm somewhat of a traditionalist when in an Italian restaurant, so went straight for the spaghetti and meatballs. Very tasty, with the spaghetti cooked perfectly al-dente. We're big fans of good iced tea, and we were very happy with the tea. Andrew kept us well supplied, as expected, since he's very good at his job. Great food, great service, what else do we need! First hostess was not the best (I can tell when someone is sizing me up) we ordered our food fourty minutes pass by and no food meanwhile people that were seated way after us were getting their food I asked the waitress where our food was she went and came back with a pizza they obviously put back in the oven and my plate of food that was cold the waitress noticed I was not happy and offered to take it back I said no since I know what can happen. OK so my favorite dish to eat is chicken piccata. This was my first time at the restaurant.The chicken piccata was delicious. Slightly grilled and the sauce with capers made you slow down and savor every bite. We took my mother for some pre-Mother's Day lunch and everybody loved their meals. This is my second visit to the new location, the first one was great but figured it might be a fluke and tonight proved it wasn't a fluke. The patio is a complete no it is so loud you have to yell at the waiter to hear you. The street noise is too much with the talking, sensory overload. Our waiter was not attentive we only saw him twice during our visit. Both of our orders were wrong and the pizza dough wasn't cooked through. It's lost the personal touch. No shit it's "your badl. And they will stand chatting and are annoyed when you say excuse me. If I didn't know how good the food and wait staff were I'd have left last time I was there.
