Quit frankly, i believe they use quality pasta. I don't feel bloated, and get heartburn after eating it. Is it gluten free? Could be! Who knows. I'm Italian, and I'm scared of pasta. Weird, i know. I have also worked in a few Italian restaurants for long periods of time in the SF Bay Area and i could swear I'm eating at one of those places when i come here (or order take out..) my bf loves it too. They don't skimp on quality ingredients (thank you!). My old boss was actually the first person to bring me here! It's a Bakersfield staple and i highly recommend it. I get the tortellini and the tortelloni (the bigger ones with prosciutto) sometimes switching it up to a pesto cream sauce, or I'll get raviolis. They have brown butter sauce butternut raviolis, i really want to try! I wish i had a pic but i never leave myself time, but definitely try the tiramisu if you get the chance. Also, my company came here for a holiday dinner in 2019 and it was a great time as well! The staffs super nice too! My bf & i came here on my anniversary in 2016 & i didn't know i was sick, but i passed out, and they helped me. Many thanks to those wonderful people. Pretty good food. Very few (1 listed, maybe a couple more with modifications) vegan options. But it's a good size restaurant with an outdoor option so even seating on weekends doesn't require a long wait. The staff is friendly and attentive. read more

So here's the story of frugattis messing up my order, and also making my night. I've been eating at this place for over a decade and I can tell you that they are consistently consistent at being wonderful. From the food to the service to the portions/price ratio, always 10/10. This brings me to my first anniversary with my wife. We call on our order for pickup, and my wife times things perfectly to pick up on her way home. We ordered the chicken piccata and Theresa's tortellini, upon arriving they let my wife know that there was a mixup and a chicken parm was made instead. No worries at all though, because they are Frugatti's so they had already started on the chicken piccata and offered the extra dish free of charge. (Never turn down Frugatti's, especially if it's free) Fast forward to 30 minutes later when I am enjoying my tortellini and biting into the best chicken parm I've ever had. In the covid world, food is a real highlight for my wife and I because it's one of the few pleasures we can indulge in. Five stars because that's all they'll let me give. read more

The Lobster Ravioli is 5 pieces for $28. I mean, it was delicious. Truly. But each ravioli, one and a half bites (or one, if you're me) was almost $6. The person I was with and I were joking about it the entire entree. We should've asked portions. But again, delectable and *real lobster. Gotta grab a pizza. We grabbed the classic, just to have something simple. Margherita goes with everything else. It works as a meal and an appetizer. Though those stuffed mushrooms are a good starter. This is a review long after the check-in, but the memory of it still lingers fondly. Girlfriend and I were taking photos out by the almond orchards. It was a long day with travel from Orange County to Bakersfield. So we were looking for a spot to eat. And we found this gem. I had the meatball lasagna. My girlfriend had the beef braciole. The food is superb, to say the least. But there's more to speak about first and foremost when you walk in and get seated. This place was awesome. The decor, the ambience, the service, the entirety of the experience. To think they put all of this in a little strip mall down the street from an orchard. If it were just these things, I would certainly return. But back to the food. Awesome. The noodles felt like they were made at the location with the freshest ingredients. The meat was layered and tender and savory and all of the good things you could pack into a braciole. The sauce was thick, and tasty, serving as a perfect compliment to the noodles and meat. Five months later, I long to go back and have that experience again. It's hard to find a great place nearby here in Garden Grove that brings that authentic Italian food. Places around here hardly get you filled, and I feel like they don't put in the work to their atmosphere to make it happen for the ambience. Hats off to Frugatti's. I'll be back soon! read more

Decided to give this place a second chance and had dinner here tonight for date night with my husband. This was a much more enjoyable experience than our last visit. I had the tortellini and my husband had the Bolognese sausage ravioli, both of which were excellent. I also had glass of the Moscato wine that was delicious and we shared the cannoli for desert. Our server was friendly and efficient even though the restaurant was very packed. This reminded me of the Frugatti's from my childhood and I highly recommend going to anyone looking for some authentic Italian food in Bakersfield. read more

The ambiance was great. The wait for a table (with a reservation) slow. After seating we got a beverage then waited 20 minutes to see our server (who we could see working the outer patio area) brought our salad, as we asked for some bread. During this time we watched the busser leisurely and inefficiently clear the adjoining table with loud noise. About 40 minutes later our meal arrived...warm (not hot) in temperature and haphazardly my salmon lay on the plate in a few pieces. The asparagus were cooked just right. The mashed potatoes were hotter and all tasted great. It was my birthday so I ordered the peppermint cheesecake. Oops sold out so then I requested tiramisu. I definitely recommend the chicken piccata it was so delicious. I just didn't care for the stuffed mushrooms. I thought it would be a little more than js some ground beef in a mushroom. Our server was okay we were seated outside. Where we have been seated before it was great! This time it was not pleasant due to all the flys from having the windows open. Woah, how have I lived in Bakersfield this long and not never been to this place. I now regret not coming here sooner, Move over Olive Garden! Because this is my new spot. Everything from the customer service to the food was great. Theresa's tortellini has a great sauce which pairs well with those sun dried tomatoes. In my personal opinion a steak that isn't well seasoned must have A1 sauce on the side, baby when I tell you there's no need for A1 here haha, perfectly cook and very flavorful. Seems like THE place to go for Italian in Bakersfield- hot, friendly, and relatively fast. However, it's more likely THE place to go for GREAT pizza, and OK Italian. Everything was just "one step" away from being great... nothing that a bit of attention to detail wouldn't significantly improve. I really don't like leaving a negative review, but something should be said. Yesterday, our party of four called first thing in the morning to make reservations and we were told all reservations were full, but come and it will be a 35-45 minute wait. We arrived, we were told it would be 90 minutes. Okay, I get it, that's fine. 60 minutes - check in to see how much longer, and we're told about 45 minutes 75 minutes - we hear another waiting party walk out the door and say "I guess we just wasted 2 hours waiting for nothing" 90 minutes - check to see how much longer and we're told it'll be another 35-40 minutes... Wait? What!? (One of us runs next door to Sweet Beast to grab something for the ladies in our party who are experiencing hunger pains) 120 minutes - What's the status? "If I'm honest with you, it's going to be another 45 minutes. There's nothing I can do" 121 minutes - We walk out the door and exclaim "I guess we just wasted 2 hours waiting for nothing" - no apologies made - they actually kept blaming their seated guests for the delay - no care for the people standing outside in the cold. Suggestion: Walk around with a plate of sample appetizers or something. People come to a restaurant ready to eat and are hungry. - being told initially 25-30 minutes and it end up being nearly 3 hours (we'll never know how long) is poor host training and poor management. read more

If you want to have excellent Italian food you must come here. I went there it's a little bit pricey sure but I'd rather eat at this place then go to the terrible Olive Garden. There is no better Italian other than Luigi's and if you can't get into Luigis you know you just got a pick a place like this. There's only a few places that have a good Italian food when is Luigis and this would be the other one. Whichever is close to you at the time that's where you go. I went there with my spouse to the new location. I got the pizza with the fresh burrata cheese roasted tomato and basil pizza was very lacking in toppings. I think a basil plant walked by it and a few leaves fell off. Same with my wife's pizza for two small pizzas with soft drinks and tip it was pushing $60. Way over priced for pizza lacking in toppings. The rest of the menu was pretty pedestrian. Service was okay I had to ask for refills on my soda twice. Mainly because my pizza was a little spicy with the chili oil. The new location is okay but lacks the ambiance of the old location in my opinion, but it is nice. read more

Perhaps it was just us, perhaps the adjustment to new location but today we ate there and in no way were we disappointed! Delicious as ever and the same awesome service! I've lived and Bakersfield for several years and am sorry to say that I had never eaten at Frugatti's! We finally got a chance today for an anniversary lunch and WOW! We came at a perfect time, there was absolutely no wait. We were seated quickly and our server Richard came over and introduced himself. Since it was our first time here he went over some recommendations for us while we snacked on some warm bread. For my FitFam or Macro family they have a fitness section that shows the protein/carbs/fat of each item. I went with the fitness pizza AND the fitness red pepper chicken. The food itself was AMAZING. The pizza sauce had little cubes of tomato in it and you could taste the quality of the ingredients. The crust was a little burned but even then it was seriously one of the Best pizzas of my life and it was just cheese. I can only imagine how the other pizza tastes when the crust is perfectly golden brown.(next time!) My red pepper chicken was also really tasty.( not as good as my wife's pasta dish but much healthier so I will take that small trade-off) I'm sad to say, I did not put away my two dishes, blame it on skipping breakfast and being in that weird "starving but I can't eat much now" mode.
