My husband and I went last Saturday night for a quiet dinner here. We got there early and were done by 6 to beat the crowd. Very cute inside and out. They have patio seating, which we plan to try next time for sure. A friend gave us gift certificates here and we had never been before. It is pricey, but worth it. I ordered the lemon martini, which was very good. My husband had a jack and coke- not lacking in the liquor. He got the lobster crab ravioli and I had the scallop pasta. My sauce was a little spicy- be prepared for that, but I thought it complimented the dish well. The scallops were cooked to perfection! Not fishy or mushy. Neither meal comes with a salad, so my husband and I split a Caesar salad. We were happy to see they have already divided it into two plates. Service was great, bathrooms nice and clean. As always they do not have an adequate waiting area even though the wait is always long there. The staff was really great and rang us up promptly. We went there for their 2nd day of being open in the new building and the service was terrible. I understand all restaurants struggle when they start over but once we were seated, we weren't acknowledged for 20 minutes to ask what we wanted to drink and then it was a total of 55 minutes until we got our first water and drinks. A couple next to us asked for a manager cus they sat there for 1-1/2 hours before they got their two individual pizzas and all the manager did was give excuses as they were shift changing and the new building and working to get better. I have eaten here since a kid and hopefully since they moved to this new building, it won't jeopardize their quality of food and service. read more

As usual we had our usual's (sorta) and as usual the food was great and our usual server (Kyle) was on his game as he usually is. Usually Kyle can place our order without us needing to say a word, but being the last day of 2017 and feeling wildly compelled to live on the edge and drift away from the usual we decided to tweak things just a tad. New Years resolution is to be more spontaneous and less usual, but we never follow through with any of them so expect 2018 to be kinda usual. Looking forward to 2019 tho. read more

Went there with friends from Australia a couple years ago. Ordered Chicken Alfredo, while eating it, bit down onto something hard. Turned out to be a piece of brass wire from their colander that they strain the pasta with. Brought it to the attention of my server and her response was, "oh, how did that get in there?". That's all I heard about it from the staff of the restaurant. Not even a manager came by to apologize or offer anything for almost chipping my tooth. They charged me the full price for my meal and didn't even bother to say sorry or anything. That was the first restaurants that my friends ate at in the United States and they thought that American restaurants just don't care about their customers. Thankfully I was able to take them to other restaurants and show them a much better experience and improve their opinion of the American restaurant industry. read more

We're in heaven! Has a great Southern Italian feel with California-sourced ingredients and unique twists on classic favorites. Loved the Chopped Salad, spinach and artichoke pizza, and cannolis. On the rolls alone, this place is a solid 5 stars. To start, I only eat at this place maybe once every other year, due to their high prices. At least that's what I always tell myself, on the rare chance we choose to come here. It's like they want you to feel like you're paying for a trip to italy, when you get your bill at the end of the evening. My brother had his birthday lunch here a couple weeks ago, so this review is a compilation on every time I have been here, since then. They have newly remodeled their extra dining area into a look a like wine cave, which was nice and cozy, if you have a small party. Mr. Fruguglietti could have easily put the cages of wine inside the wall, instead of next to the wall. They start off with the drinks, at which time I ordered a Shirley Temple. Don't hate, just because you always forget to order that, when you go out. It was a little on the weak side, like the 21 year old behind the bar had never heard of it, and the even younger waitress had to tell him how to not put enough grenadine into 7UP. They bring out their fresh rolls next, which happen to be the size of your head. This place could open up shop, selling just the rolls. After you gorge yourself with two to three rolls, you are then stuck with what to order. They have a huge menu to choose from. On top of thr huge menu, they are huge on price. I understand your proteins like pork chop or a nice sized steak, is going to be on the pricey side, but 6 to 8 raviolis, with meat sauce, shouldn't cost almost $20. Ouch! I also couldn't tell if they were fresh or not, because the dough for the raviolis was so thick. It was also supposed to be spicy, which it wasn't. Overall I gave Frugattis 3.75 stars. I struggled between 3 and 4 stars, but felt with the decent service and not skimping on the rolls or the drink refills, it got them the 4 stars over the 3. They didn't come close to 5 stars, due to the super high prices and mediocre food. read more

Frugattis is my go to restaurant when I visit Bakersfield. I love the food, the service, the atmosphere and I recommend it to anyone who hasn't been. I was going to write a review on the food I ordered, but while taking a gander at the reviews, I've decided to put my two cents in about the service. I worked at a retail store when I was younger, and let me tell you, customer service is hard! I can't imagine what it's like to work at a busy restaurant. While looking through these reviews, I think some people just don't know what it's like to work in customer service. It's especially hard when you're young, and nothing is in your control, and that's the story for most of the workers up front. I came in tonight presumably during the dinner rush. I was told the wait was going to be about an hour and a half and luckily I didn't have anything to do for the rest of the night, so I was fine with waiting. While waiting, I watched the hostesses and cashiers bust their butts off to try to keep everyone waiting happy. The takeout line was especially long, and the cashiers were obviously stressed, but they kept a kind tone to everyone waiting and were open and honest about everyone's orders. I also saw the servers running around with arms full of plates of food to the rather large parties dining there tonight. I was very impressed to see how hard everyone worked. I even saw the hostesses helping the bussers clean off tables, and sometimes even doing it themselves to ensure everyone was seated as soon as possible. I doubt bussing is in the hostesses job description, so the fact they were willing to go out of their way to help with what they could was astonishing to me. This really is a wonderful restaurant. In my opinion, it's one of the best in Bakersfield. If you've never worked customer service, I do ask that you cut the workers some slack when you're starting to get frustrated, it's likely nothing the workers can control anyway. Had family in town and wanted to take them to dinner somewhere specific to Bakersfield and since I've never been there, we picked Frugattis and I'm glad we did. First, parking is a pain! Not enough parking spots. Good luck. Second, they don't do reservations if you have 7 or less, but they do call ahead waiting which we did. We arrived around 445-5pm and we were seated right away because we used called ahead. The restaurant is not that big, but its cozy. We liked the decorations especially a corner that had laundry hanging. Something you really dont see anymore. We received real good service. Our waiter was patient and answered our questions. They bring bread and man, let me tell you, they are about the size of a softball so be careful when eating them cause they will fill you up! The plates of food are well proportioned and came out hot. Our waiter never forget about us even as the restaurant started to fill up. Our drinks were topped off and plates removed when done. Overall making sure we were doing well. As for the prices, some might say they are pricey, but I believe they are priced accordingly when comparing to other Italian restaurants. Everyone enjoyed there food and no one complained. To bad we had no room for dessert, the dessert menu looked good. If you've never been here, use call ahead and try it out and make your own comparisons. read more

My wife found this place while I was driving last week. We called to order for pick up but they closed early due to COVID-19. So, now it's Tuesday and Frugatti's is now open for dine-in service! Here we sit trying things. I ordered the Chicken Breast with Pinot Grigio Mushroom Sauce. My wife ordered the Eggplant Parmesan. Both were outstanding! Atlantic cod in foil is THE BEST item on their entire menu. It was an unforgettable taste. Absolutely loved it. I can eat that everyday for rest of my life and not complain. On the other hand, Wood-fired salmon with fat Sammy sauce was extremely bland and tasteless. In each bite, your brain pings, " there's something missing" probably put the sauce under or on the side and keep the salmon on wood fire a little longer to infuse the taste. I don't know. But that was total flop. Napolitano margarita pizza was real and authentic. I saw another review comparing this pizza to a brand chain large pizza. Lol. That's one of the most ridiculous comparison. If the size matters please stay with the large pizza from brand names. If you want real napolitano pizza, you won't find it more authentic in US than here. Overall speaking, definitely recommend for one of the best Italian food places in Bakersfield. read more

From the onset of calling in to set up reservation for party of 6 everything went very smoothly. No issues. We got seated in the cave room which was nice and quiet and had a fantastic time. Service was okay. Food: I got the Atlantic cod in foil and was really surprised how good it was. Such a simple dish yet so flavorful. Was very happy to note that it did not smell nor taste fishy at all unlike snapper or salmon. Friend got the tortellini. The trick is to get the Theresa pasta and sub the pasta with the chicken and cheese tortellini. He mentioned it loved it better than his usual Theresa choice he gets. Anyway everyone got something diff and we all enjoyed our choices. Prices per person were also reasonable. No one was drinking alcohol so that's good. read more

Our family gathered here for a graduation dinner celebration, we had a reservation and we were greeted promptly as we all walked in and quickly seated. Our table was ready and laid out nicely. The waitress harmony was accurate and fantastic with taking everyone's order! She even took these group photos! All of our food came out in a timely manner and overall we were all pleased with the food and service here. I had the salmon and it was super fresh and the portion was great! Bakersfield is lucky to have a handful of amazing Italian restaurants that will satisfy that carb craving you're having. Frugatti's is one of those restaurants. Up until a few years ago my go-to at any Italian place was to try their chicken alfredo as it is my favorite. Alfredo sauce, to me, is an art form. It needs to be rich and creamy without being too greasy, it needs to have the right amount of cheese without being stringy, and needs to have the hint of salt from the cheese without being over-salted. So in my opinion if you have great homemade alfredo you make it in my book. Frugatti's hits all those points and makes a delicious chicken alfredo. Now, to my point of up until a few years ago...I had gone to a Yelp event at this restaurant to showcase their new wine cave. It was a wonderful event that allowed us to sample several of their most popular dishes (my favorite part to get me to try new things) and to hear the great stories in which the dishes became popular at the restaurant or within their family. It was at this very event that I was introduced to Theresa's Favorite Tortellini. In case you don't know what this awesome dish is...it's a tortellini pasta stuffed with a blend of cheeses and topped with a sun dried tomato cream sauce (note how good they are on making cream sauces). I was in love with this dish at first bite. The sun dried tomato cream sauce was out of this world. It was what I love from a cream sauce with a little sweetness and acidity from the tomatoes. The dinner portion, as all their dishes, is huge but that doesn't stop me from trying to eat every single bite. Have I had their chicken alfredo??? Yes, but that tortellini is my new go-to when I come to Frugatti's. Along with my love for this dish there are many other things I've tried. A few favorites include the Wood Fired Roman Artichokes, Nonni's Pasta Al Pompodoro, and Rigatoni Bolognese. Oh and don't forget Tony's Cannoli, Red Raspberry Cheesecake, or Gammy's Killer Carrot Cake for dessert. So as you can see this is an awesome Italian restaurant. I've always had great service and the servers and wait staff keep up with refills and other needs. Oh and a little tip... if you want to beat the dinner rush trying eating a little early like around 5pm and there is virtually no wait. read more

I was so stinking excited to try out the wine cave. We decided to have my fiancée's birthday dinner there. There was a large group of us which always makes for a hardship on the servers. Upon walking in, the bar area greets you. You then walk into the 32 capacity wine cave. The cave has a very neat wooden table in the middle of the "cave". There are murals alongside the walls depicting a cave like dwelling. It is super cool. Our evening was great, the only complaint I had was some not so great service. I don't want to completely blame our server, she was a doll, I think it was the kitchen as well. While my food was wonderful, we did have some issues with some of the other members of our parties food. I wish that we can be able to give 1/2 stars, because I feel as if a 3 and a 1/2 star rating is appropriate. I look forward to stopping by again and giving them another chance. read more

I went back to Frugatti's about six weeks ago, for the first time since I last reviewed. Big improvement! The service was much better, and the food was awesome. We got the lunch special, one with minestrone soup and a salad, and one with the veggie sandwich and a salad. I could eat this salad every single day. The house creaky garlic dressing was to die for! Everything was so fresh; vibrant tomato, dark, leafy greens. SO GOOD. 10/10. The veggie sandwich was pretty good but not really my jam. My hubs loved it. He ended up eating it as a leftover since the salad and soup really filled him up. Next time we go back I would totally get the soup-- it was awesome! From somebody that doesn't like soup much, that's really saying something. I wish we could give half stars because I would give them 4.5 stars. Some more vegetarian options would be awesome, as would some vegan choices. I'm very happy I went back and I will definitely return! read more

First time at frugattis and I ordered the garlic fettuccine dish and I was so surprised on how large the portion was !!! My friend and I decided to share it and it was one of the best pasta dishes that I've had, it tasted fresh, authentic , and I had never had almonds on my pasta so that was a special twist that I enjoyed. The wait at frigatti's was an hour on a Saturday evening. It took a long time to get our table cleaned once we were next to be seated, until I asked if we could get seated at another table they already had cleaned. The service from our server was great, he refilled our drinks, checked on us and made sure everything was good. However, my food wasn't the best I ordered pasta with marinara sauce, fried eggplant on top but it was just covered in an oil. My husband and son loved their food.
