To be very honest the food was not great at all. The fish was not seasoned and over fried, the wings were ok and I ordered the crab pasta and there www barely any crab lol. The waiter was super nice and attentive though and warned us the kitchen was busy which makes sense the food was not enjoyable. The bathrooms are super clean and if you're vaccinated you do not have to wear your mask on the boat. Beautiful summer spot for drinks and food! The bar and tables, some with shaded seats, are on a boat overlooking the Hudson River. Our friend was very intrigued by the nearby helicopter landing pad, which is visible from the boat. You order by scanning a QR code on your table, but our waitress came by to ask us if we wanted anything also. You can order and pay (including tip) fully through your phone, however. I got a rose spritzer and the Old Bay fries, which were good but nothing to write home about. It's a little pricey, but you are on a boat! I'll keep coming back for the views and the vibe. read more

It was a beautiful day to hang out with friends. We were not as hungry as we were thirsty, so we headed over to the Frying Pan. Just because you should not drink on an empty stomach, we ordered calamari to go with our pitcher of sangria. Just so you know, it was a Saturday afternoon and very busy. From what I've heard, it's easier to find seating during weekday afternoons, but we snagged a great table at the top of the barge. Tip: don't wear heels for this adventure, especially if you plan on drinking a lot. LOL, my friend wears heels everywhere, and complains the entire time, anywhere we go (((me: eye rolling))). The barge is sitting in water, it's self serve, etc. Anyway, we ordered a pitcher of white sangria, which was really delicious. It was fruity and liquors were well balanced, and we were tipsy after polishing off the entire thing. We did share a basket of fried calamari. The best thing about it was that it was crispy, hot and the dipping sauce was flavorful. Other than that, it was a little bland. I made it to the Frying Pan several times in my wild(er) single days. Not many better spots to have a drink on a Summer Friday afternoon and have a burger. Since that time, they have made some changes (you can't walk around the other boat), and there is a big cover for rain/sun. But we had a great time as a family during a pandemic. It was not crowded, service was super friendly, and we enjoyed our burger and chicken sandwich. Maybe the food is a little over-priced, but some of that has to be the experience and location. Was craving a lobster roll and a lager and the Frying Pan delivered! Fun place to eat on a nice day, tons of seating making walking in easy. Lobster roll was a little on the small side but was tasty and they give you a lot of fries with it. It's 95 degrees and the thought of walking the High Line sounds grueling. Walking the Hudson River Park though? That I can do. Something about being beside the water is cooling even if it's in no way cool which brings me to the Frying Pan. Or Pier 66 Maritime. Here on yelp they seem to be interchangeable though in reality they aren't. Still, just head here. Or head to Pier 66 Maritime. I don't know the difference and neither will you. Frying Pan is a permanently docked historic lightship, built in 1929 and docked at Pier 66. The Pier itself - the giant pier with tons of seating overlooking the Hudson - is now operating as a place to drink and eat (emphasis on drink). You certainly know better than to presume you'll have a great dining experience at a place along the (any) waterfront which is partially why all I did here was drink (order at the bar) and share a perfunctory plate of hummus/pita/vegetables. I wouldn't run back for anything on that plate but I'd definitely run back for the opportunity to sit over the water, drink something cold, and for a short while, escape the steamy streets of Manhattan. The food seemed exactly as good as it needed to be at such a location. Think drink(s). When I rose to leave, someone zoomed in for my table under an umbrella along the pier's edge. There's a ton of seating here (though not all is shaded) so do some advance scouting to determine where you'ld most like to sit. This has got to be a wonderful place to take in the sunset. It's not a bad place for middle of the day either. Anything that provides a cold drink and a cool breeze in August in Manhattan is welcome. Frying Pan/Pier 66 Maritime delivered. If you find yourself in the city on a nice, sunny, and non-humid day, I would definitely recommend spending time out here on the pier having a cold one with a group of friends or even a date. Although I have to warn you it does get crowded out here due to its popularity. The Cape Cod Lobster Roll is a must try here which comes with Cole Slaw and French Fries. It does come at the cost of $24, but I think it's worth the price. I also split a pitcher of their White Sangria mixed with seasonal fruits and berries with my friends which for $37 is pretty good as well. Drafts are the standard $8 and they have some interesting ones. You just have to see when you're there as they do change them up. Overall, great experience, relaxing with friends, ate some good food, and drank some good beers while watching the sunset over Jersey City. read more

Love this place for many reasons. It's one of those places you hope doesn't get packed so you can still enjoy it as your own secret place. But alas, I will share one of my favorite places with you all. The Frying Pan. If you're a lover of perfectly blended not too sweet frozen margaritas, this is the place. Very few places serve frozen margaritas like this outside of the Caribbean. Now all they need to serve are frozen pina coladas like the Caribbean and I'm in trouble. I don't recommend the margarita's on the rocks. They taste very sugary and syrupy and very little tequila it seems. My guess is, the sugar over powers the tequila and it should be a good balance if the both. Too much sugar also gives you that wonderful hang over the next morning. I had to add water to my margarita on the rocks in order to make it drinkable. I've enjoyed their great burgers, crispy fries, and perfect cooked fish and chips. This is one of the places where I go when I'm looking to indulge during my staycation and enjoy the gorgeous Hudson River views. I highly recommend coming here. My wish; that there was a way to have part of this ship closed or heated during the winter so they can have a winter wonderland and serve delicious hot chocolate and winter stews and treats. Boasting spectacular views of the Hudson, this is a great spot to come on a warm day/evening with friends or a date. There's two seating options- table service or seat yourself. The latter can be tricky depending on how crowded it is- it can be tough to snag a spot and you have to go up and order your own food and drinks. During my most recent visit we tried the table service and I'm glad we did. We were seating immediately, no searching for a table! We ordered a round of spicy watermelon margaritas, which were delicious! They were refreshing and had a nice kick to them. For food, we tried the poke tostadas and cheesy risotto balls. The poke tostadas were pretty good, but the risotto balls were so bland. They didn't have much taste to them, to the point where we were very hungry but couldn't even finish them. Our sever was great- she was super friendly and attentive. The wait service area of the ship is definitely rockier than the rest of the ship, so if you get motion sickness easily, I would not recommend sitting there. Most of the stuff on the menu is not on the healthier side ( ie fish and chips, burgers, and etc) during covid, you are expected to order through their webpage, and food is delivered out in takeout boxes. First time trying the Frying Pan only because we walked by and there was no ridiculous line out front. To be honest, nothing special. Glorified bar food that is overpriced because you get to eat it on a boat lol. This place is perfect for the young ones, and for groups. Even though it was raining/drizzling we didn't get wet because there was a cover over our heads. COCKTAILS: (Drinks are in order from favorite to least favorite) - Cucu cooler [crop organic cucumber vodka, cucumber puree, lemonade] This tastes like one of the green juices from pressed juicery. This was mostly juice. Like 90% ocean spray grapefruit juice and 10% alcohol. This is a fruity drink is good for people who wants something sweet and don't want to taste the alcohol. - Riverside Sizzle [new amsterdam citron vodka, sparking grapefruit rose, cranberry splash] I totally misread this when I saw the word sizzle in the name because I was thinking of the "swizzle" I had when I went to Bermuda and this was a different drink. The drink here is stronger than the previous 2. You can definitely taste the alcohol in this one. I found this drink OK. Not my kind of drink though. - Spicy Watermelon Rita [Tanteo Jalapeno Tequila, Fresh watermelon puree, simple syrup, lime salt rim] Not my kind of drink but it's good if you like jalapeno and a salty rim. BITES: - Guac and Chips - the guacamole was definitely missing some flavor, e.g. salt and some lime juice. It tasted like it was straight avocado. The tortilla chips were pretty good. Not sure what kind of red seasoning the chips had but it tasted like old bay or taco seasoning. It was a little spicy which I liked. - Beef Sliders - They were pretty decent. The location was really nice and the food was good. I personally just did not enjoy the drinks and I felt as though their response wasn't the best. I ordered a Paloma and my mom ordered a Margarita. We are both of Latin descent so we knew what to expect and we knew these drinks would be something we'd enjoy as it's a very standard drink. When we receive our drinks, the two drinks taste like juice. The Paloma is supposed to have soda and it didn't even taste like that. I'm not entirely sure what alternatives they used but it didn't taste how it was supposed to. My mom brought up the same concern, that you couldn't taste any alcohol so it was to our assumption that the bartender didn't put the amount they were supposed to or forgot to put alc in the drinks. After literally taking 2 small sips, I flagged our waitress down and let her know that my drink didn't have any alcohol in it and if she could either have the bartender put some in both our drinks or make us a new one. She was nice and let her know. 5 minutes later the bartender comes to our table and tells us with an attitude "I did put the correct amount of alcohol in both of your drinks. The reason you can't taste it is because we don't use tequila here. We use a different liquor to which doesn't have that much of a taste." I then told her three times " well can you make us a new one with tequila" to which she continued rambling on about the other liquor. I personally enjoyed the food and view but this interaction and the lack of respect for my culture and my culture's alcoholic beverage is distasteful. A Paloma and a margarita are very simple drinks with rich history to them. Stop gentrifying drinks. You don't need to make your own twist this dramatic to drinks that are standard and have so much history. Do them the way they're supposed to be made or at-least don't have it listed as a Paloma and a margarita when they are clearly not so. You can't have a Paloma listed as a Paloma when it's squirt and vodka or rum or apple juice and tequila. So why would you do that for the alternative you used when it wasn't even tequila. It's the same thing. You want to create your own drink then do it and call it something else but when people order these drinks, it's because people know what they're going to taste like as it's a standard drink. Been hearing about this place well over a year. Finally, a friend of mine wanted to hang and I suggested this being our meeting up point. Of course, I would choose the hottest day of the season so far. It was really packed, but organized. You order your drinks and food at the bar and then it's game on for seating. I had the I love you prosecco and my friend had the bay bae. We found seats within a five minute span and then decided to order fish n chips and a bottle of Prosecco. The fish n chips combo has so much going on between the malt vinegar on the fish and the old bay on the fries. Let's just say I needed water from all the sodium I consumed but, it was good nonetheless. Very cool concept, eating and drinking on a boat, but I can't say that I was impressed with this spot. I would be down to come back after the pandemic because this new way of life is difficult for everyone and perhaps they are just finding new footing, but I don't really have anything good to say about my dining experience here today. I had the mussels and the rum punch. The punch was small and not very strong. The mussels were pretty and buttery, but the vast majority of them, and I mean all but 3 or 4, still had at least a small piece of beard on them. I've been eating mussels my whole life and until about a year ago I didn't even know they had beards. But I saw plenty tonight! My dining buddies got the buffalo chicken sandwich and the fish and chips. Friend 1 liked his fish and chips but wished it had malt vinegar instead of tarter sauce. Friend 2 liked her sandwich but wished it had more buffalo flavor. I shared an order of the Cajun fries with her and they were... not good. Ok seasoning, but small and hard. There weren't really a lot of side dish options. After I finished my mussels I was not full and wanted more food but did want want more gross fries. They definitely get points for pandemic compliance. Tables were 6 ft or more apart. All staff were wearing their masks correctly, and I even saw a patron being corrected for not wearing her mask properly when she got up from her table. Everything was ordered via a link from a QR code so no germy menus. This does mean you pay and tip before your food comes out (which I generally hate). Our servers dropped the food off, came by once shortly after to ask how everything was, and then were never to be seen again. I did have to flag someone down for silverware to eat my mussels with. Overall, being on the water was very cool. We saw some kayakers and watched the sunset. But my mussels, drink, tax, and tip totaled $33 and I was left with more to be desired. read more
