What a horrible experience my boyfriend and I had at Fumo tonight (7/23/24-Harlem location). We decided to go for dinner, it was a busy night but we managed to get a table for two inside. We ordered a bottle of wine, the waiter brought it to the table. We then placed our orders for appetizer and our main dish. An entire 45 minutes passed and we never got anything just the complimentary bread and the bottle of wine. First of all shame on us for waiting that long but we are patient people we thought it's a busy night maybe that's why it's so slow. Then we saw the people next to us got their orders and they sat down 30 minutes after us. Eventually we spoke to the manager. The manager didn't care if we left and the waiter gave us a check to pay for the bottle. I was not paying for a bottle that we didn't finish and with poor service. I expected to receive superb service from this place since they are always busy and I've heard nothing but great things. We are extremely disappointed with how they handled our situation. We will not be coming back, the waiter and the manager in the Amsterdam location ruined our experience. read more

Fumo offered a delightful dining experience that I highly recommend. From their service, to their food and atmosphere, everything was absolutely enjoyable. Check-In: I was immediately acknowledged by the host upon arriving, and immediately seated. They do get very busy so (depending on the party size) they tell you there is a maximum amount of time at the table, although I sat over the time and they didn't rush me out or even ask for the table back. Service: Service was attentive, the server took my order and consistently checked in throughout the rest of my stay. Food & Drinks: They have various options in their menu, I opted for their Brick Oven Pizza which I heard great things about, and boy am I glad I ordered one. It's officially my favorite pizza in the area now. The flavors mesh together so well, especially when paired with a nice glass of wine. The pizza was a perfect balance of crunchy and creamy, and the Montepulciano was bold and rich. I also ordered the Panna Cotta, although it didn't quite taste like a normal Panna Cotta, I have to admit it was absolutely delish. It did have a strong taste of vanilla bean, and had a thicker custard consistency than what Panna Cotta tends to be, but again it was very tasty (however, if you don't like vanilla bean flavored items then this wouldn't be for you). I accompanied my dessert with a glass of the Friulano which was also tasty and refreshing. Price: Compared to other Italian restaurants in NYC, the pricing at Fumo is quite fair. They have wines ranging from $10-13, beers from $6-8, and cocktails at $13. Also, for the quality of food you're getting I think the prices are definitely fair, especially when compared to other Italian restaurants in proximity. Atmosphere: The place is located on Amsterdam Avenue, right across from City College, which is a beautiful campus with beautifully designed buildings therefore it's an enjoyable sight, especially if seated alone. The vibe of the place is very calm and relaxed, perfect for a date, family dinner or intimate gather with friends or others. I also did notice they have heat lamps, so the place is already highly cozy without them, now I can only imagine during the cooler nights it'll be cozier with those around. Finally tried this place out on a Sunday evening. It was pretty busy. They don't sit you until the whole party is there. Ordered baked calms (half) they were delicious. The sauce was really good. Spaghetti carbonara as my main which was delicious. Their fries are good. I dunno what oil they fry it in but it gives it a slightly different but good flavor. I was blown away by how good this restaurant is overall. From vibes, it's beautiful the outdoor seating is so so cute. The music playing was great and set the tone for the environment. THE FOOD, I mean wow the penne Funghi was something that I had to eat with my eyes closed it was THAT good. The rigatoni Gamberi was a close close second. This spot is elegant... casual elegance. But the staff needs work... lots of work. They are some of the most confused, rude, under qualified waitstaff you'll see. Suggestion: more employee training. On Sunday nights all their pasta dishes are $10, dine-in only. Vodka pasta and penne shrimp, for the win! But really you can't go wrong with what you order. Went here for a solo brunch a few weeks ago and loved it! Had plans to go with a friend but they felt under the weather so I went anyway. I ordered the lobster roll which came with fries and everything was delicious. I loved that the toasted bun that the lobster was in was thicker than what I'm used to when I've had lobster rolls in the past. It felt more filling. The fries were also very good. Because the bottomless mimosa fee was only $20.50, I paid for that instead of just ordering two mimosas for $10 each since the pricing was similar and I could get more with bottomless. I ended up drinking more than two mimosas and easily so, since they had a good system for keeping the drinks flowing. I did some journaling while I ate and drank, had a nice waiter, and was seated right away, so overall it was a great time. Looking forward to returning. read more

I did enjoy the Rigatoni Gamberi but it did get slightly overwhelming as I continued to eat more of it but it was pretty good. The Rigatoni Salciccia tasted very good too. Placed an order to go. Was told 25 minutes for Pasta and a Salad. An hour later I was still waiting, guess the broccoli was still growing. When I went inside to cancel my order they wanted me to wait with no explanation as to what went wrong. Grubhub and Uber Eats would walk up and they were going above and beyond to cater to them. Thoroughly enjoyed my time and experience here! Definitely a good lazy sunday afternoon restaurant for good eats. Went around 5:30 pm . Lady had the baked ziti, daughter had fettuccini alfredo [not on the menu but made to order] and I handled spaghetti with mushrooms and spinach in a creamy truffle sauce. We all enjoyed it. The star of this show though was the truffle fries we had for the appetizer. It was the perfect level of crisp, taste, flavor, and size, without it being oily. That is a definite must have if you visit. Ambiance was fresh and modern. The restaurant had that distinct positive murmur, symptomatic of when people are enjoying the food and atmosphere. I've had 2 Fumo experiences and was pleased overall with both of them. The first was Dec 2018 an online delivery order of lunch pasta (which are all $10) per the suggestion of a friend. I decided on the lunch carbonara and the fritto (fried medley of calamari and shrimp + side of marinara). Good portions for price. Everything tasted fresh! I was pleased. The second was was 2 Sundays ago for brunch. I went with 3 friends and we were seated quickly--We arrived around 1, which is a bit before the true brunch wave. It was standing room only by the time we walked out around 2:15. We split the fried mozzarella and fritto appetizers (per my suggestion from the delivery order). Both were great and devoured within minutes. I ordered the Burger which was good. Very hearty. Truffle fries are to die for. You don't get this cut of fry everywhere, so I appreciated them a lot. (see photos) The burger came highly recommended; although tasty, I'm not necessarily craving another. The menu is also pretty expensive so that's a non-issue. One friend got the steak and eggs which I tasted and thought was prepared beautifully. The other 2 ordered pasta entrees which Fumo seems to nail consistently. Nice portions sizes and good value! The service was good but not exceptional. I overheard one of the staff (possibly management) speaking fluent Italian to one of the tables which added a layer of authenticity to the experience, though a minor detail. I truly don't understand the hype of this place. I've ordered a couple times for delivery and my family was in town so I decided to dine in. It was about 9pm on a Friday night so it was pretty packed but we were seated promptly inside. Upon entering we noticed how dimly lit the place is. It's a real trend for nyc restaurants and I've never understood or liked it. It was also VERY loud and on top of that they were playing music, and not the mellow kind but like top 40 hip hop lol. I have no problem with the music, it was just so loud that people had to basically yell at each other to be heard and that made it sound like a bar. Just not something I would say is family friendly or romantic. The chairs and booth seating in particular were very uncomfortable. It's almost like whoever designed this place didn't take into account that actual humans with spines would be seating there for at least an hour if not more... Onto the food! Everyone in my party liked the food. My husband who is a chef, and a good one at that, said it was typical Italian fare. Tasted like what it was supposed to, but nothing spectacular. My mom ordered the Chicken with seasonal vegetables and it looked like chicken teriyaki, but she said the chicken was well seasoned. I ordered the rigatoni salsiccia which was underwhelming. I didn't even finish it. Actually, no one finished their food lol. I think we stuffed ourselves on garlic bread and fries because they actually tasted good! We also got the baked clams which my sister loved! They were a little underwhelming to me, but good nonetheless. My husband got the funghi pizza with arugula. Again, nothing to write home about. The service was meh. We asked for a high chair for my nephew from the hostess who never got it. We had to ask a server. The server in question wasn't really attentive or personable. It was busy, but he didn't really seem interested in our patronage. We also got wine, can't remember the name but it was delicious. We decided to get the check and it was pretty reasonably priced for 4 people. Less than $200 including a 20% tip. All in all, this place and meal was not memorable for any good reason. There are hundreds of better restaurants in New York and I've definitely had better Italian food. There's just no love in this place. It's like a factory trendy spot taking advantage of the neighborhood where there aren't too many "nice" spots to go to. Fumo, You sold me a dream of white on white with black trim as decor. Classy music with marble counters and table tops. So pretty to look at but beauty fades and reality sets in. Bread and oil was decent, despite being served cold. Arancini appetizer was flavorful, moist and the highlight of the meal. Despite the nice flavor, the portion size was smaller than pictured. Waiter faltered when asked and inferred we were mistaken. Bitter basil, huge unevenly cut chunks of garlic, a drastically smaller serving than pictured and sub par clams were the makings of my spaghetti vongole. Pasta was nicely al dente, but the sauce congealed and tasted like flour mixed in butter. After eating this, I changed my mind about ordering a drink. Waste of money and calories. I hope the waitress passed along my feedback. Service was lacking. Waitress only came over to check on us after several failed attempts to get her attention when we wanted the check. Food runners and bus boys seemed to be the only ones working hard. For a good while I forgot what our waitress looked like, since she only came over twice. Not sure if it was because we were seated in the Al fresco section but we were in plain view. I didn't bother to check out the restroom. Disappointing and would only go back after someone else, plays guinea pig, and confirms it is worth the trek up the hill. read more

I have visited Fumo multiple times, with varying results. First time, I had the burger which was solid. I've had the French toast which was aiight (Nutella whip needed to be more Nutella-y). I had dinner there and had some fish that escapes me (which was after I did the Spartan race so I was probably eating like a caveman). This day, I returned for brunch and had the eggs benedict. Not the best I've had, but certainly not the worst. Bonus points for the oozing yolk, a must-have for any meal with an egg. One of my friends had the burger which upset me because I'm training for a half marathon and she KNOWS I can't eat that. Maybe I should've put friend in quotes. I'll be damned if I didn't pillage some truffle fries though. That half marathon is probably gonna be a disaster anyway. The highlight (probably lowlight) was when I had to use the restroom and couldn't figure out how to turn on the light, prompting me to get the attention of a worker and tell them they have to replace a lightbulb or something, only to have the lady after me smugly turn it on after me and give me a tutorial on how to do it.
