FUNKE of the best Italian restaurants I've been to in LA in a while! I have to start out by saying how incredible our captain Carmine was. Such an incredible experience, having him explain the menu and his great hospitality. All around, his recommendations were excellent and we just loved the experience with him. We started with the focaccia and crispy artichoke, both were incredible! The perfect focaccia is hard to get, but we found it at Funke. I can't rave enough about the flavors of the pasta, the asparagus linguine was to die for, and they made it vegan for me, which was perfect. The atmosphere is amazing. You just feel good while you're in there and the pacing of the food was perfect. Everyone that works there has a really good energy, and it's extremely efficient the way it's run. It's a great place to celebrate something special like a birthday, you just feel really happy and food is delicious. Can't recommend it enough! Looking forward to going back. I came here for a private event and my friend chose a pre-fixed menu for us. We intentionally came early to grab drinks on the rooftop to check it out. The vibe was lively. It was a bit chilly so definitely wear a coat in the evening. My favorite dishes were: - focaccia - squash blossoms (amazing) - sea bass (perfectly cooked) - funghi pizza Least favorites: - prime rib eye (it was very very rare) - cacio e pepe (it was very al dente) The private room was, well... private, but also had windows where we could see into the rest of the restaurant, which I loved, because it was a dark space. Funke truly deserves their ranking! Everything about the restaurant was exquisite. I did make the mistake of booking the rooftop, (which was fine); but the indoor seating was a lot nicer. Big shoutout to our waiter Carmine! He was awesome. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and was such a delight to be around. He adjusted the heater like 5-times for us because we were going from hot to cold periodically. I can highly recommend the Arancini & Rigatoni pasta. I came here for my birthday celebration and managed to get a reservation a week beforehand. It was a weekday around 5:30pm. My party ordered a carciofi alla giudea, busiate, and rigatoni all'amatriciana. The carciofi alla giudea was the best artichokes I've ever had. There was no bitterness and I loved the crispy fried ends. The busiate was very rich and cheesy. I was unable to eat most of it because the dish already incorporated cheese and I am unable to eat cheese. The rigatoni all'amatriciana was incredible. It is one of the best pastas I've eaten. I loved the thick large rigatoni pastas with nice chewiness. The guanciale gave saltiness and flavor to the dish. Overall, this place has now become my favorite pasta restaurant. I was kind of sad after finding out the clam pasta was removed off the menu, but the rigatoni made me forget about it. Alright I can't say I was expecting to be blown away let alone let it be the best meal I've ever had but that's exactly what happened. On an unassuming corner of Beverly Hills (I know right) the outside of Funke looked like nothing special. The interior. Guys the interior. Gorgeous. The upstairs al fresco area?? Basically you're on holiday. Now the food. I'm not big on Italian. It's not my favorite cuisine so how is this the best meal I've ever eaten?? Idk?? Quality, taste, ambiance? All of it. It was perfection. We started with the squash blossoms and my mouth is watering just remembering. They were crunchy and not greasy and light but rich with the ricotta. Idk how they made something light and rich but they did. We also shared the artichokes which I heard him say were injected with some kind of oil. I can't remember but I do remember saying what are they injected with little drops of Heaven?? They were an explosion of flavor in your mouth. Then onto the almafi something or other pizza. It was the lemon pizza that's all you have to know. Omg. Omg. Genius delicious. Sour, creamy, rich but thin enough to not be too much. Wow. Probably my 2nd favorite thing of the night. Then my pasta, hand made orecchiette pasta with a sausage ragu. It was fabulous. Unexpectedly spicy but not intolerable heat, just wonderful flavor from the sausage. Then the best thing I've ever put in my mouth, the meringue pana cotta with granita on top. Ice, pana cotta and meringue?? All these crazy textures that you wouldn't think go together but do?? All the three of us had one of those Meg Ryan When Harry Met Sally moments while eating it. Coconut granita, chocolate pana cotta, a layer of thin almonds and this delicious chewy meringue. Who else saw the (excellent) chef's table episode??? I came in with big expectations and was super excited to finally get a table. Our waiter was phenomenal - he knew everything on the menu and gave a mini lecture (in a good way!!!) about his favorites and what pairs well with what. The gnocchi was excellent as he suggested and the focaccia is the best I've had in LA (garlicky and salty magic and so light) but the rest of the meal was a bit of a letdown. From the minute you step in, you feel like you are in Italy. The decor is elegant with the chandeliers and the aroma sets the cravings. Staff was attentive and knowledgeable about all the dishes. I HAD to try Funke after watching Evan Funke on the Chef's Table. His passion for pasta I had to taste and it did not disappoint!! We were going to be in Los Angeles for our granddaughter's Nutcracker performance so I made sure to get a reservation in advance. We went to the Beverly Hills location which was gorgeous! Everyone was amazing, from the hosts to all the staff! We sat across from the kitchen which I highly recommend. To watch them move in sink was truly beautiful and what you want to see! The food never sat longer than 15-30 seconds before getting picked up and delivered! We asked for suggestions since it was our first time. We started with the focaccia which was light and fluffy and best we've ever had. Totally recommend!! Then the stuffed squash blossoms, gnocchi and the bolognese. Each was better than the last but the bolognese was my favorite! My only regret was not being able to meet Evan in person but with 3 restaurants he's a very busy man. We went to Los Angeles to visit a great friend and we wanted to go to a special meal to celebrate the holidays.  We searched early and decided to go to Funke. i was hopeful after seeing the chef on TV making is pasta by hand. Getting a reservation is hard to do, but we got one for the evening we wanted.  Arrived at the restaurant and were seated right away and our server introduced himself as part of the service team and our server would be there in just a few minutes.  service was incredible We ordered with his assistance and we got three appetizers, three entrees and two desserts.  The food was fantastic, every dish better than the one before and the desserts were awesome.  I highly recommend this restaurant and just go and enjoy it read more

Had dinner here Saturday night with a friend. The restaurant is beautiful, and has three different levels. The elevators weren't working, so we had to traipse up three flights of stairs to the rooftop to check out the bar. Great space. We ended up sitting on the Mezzanine level which was quite lovely. The service was great, the food was good. However, *extremely* overpriced for such small plates. I don't like leaving an expensive dinner hungry, which I did. We ended up leaving and going elsewhere for deserts. Also worth noting that the valet ($15), is not in front of the restaurant. It's around the side halfway down the alley. You'd be better off finding parking cheaper with the same walking distance at the garage next to Wally's. read more

Had a wonderful date night with my husband at Funke. What an inviting and beautiful restaurant in Beverly Hills. Staff is friendly and welcoming. We had a great experience from the moment we walked in til we left. The ambiance here is great, the interiors are beautifully done, puts you in a good mood immediately. For starters we ordered the focaccia which was super delicious. Soft on the inside and crunchy breadcrumbs on the top. It was gone within minutes. The salad we ordered was amazing. Fresh greens and flavorful dressing. It's called misticanza. Then we ordered three pasta dishes to share since we wanted to try a few things. We got the tagliatelle, the linguini al limone and the orecchiette. All the pastas are handmade made fresh daily. Can't imagine the amount of work that goes in it. It's much appreciated Chef Evan. Saw the documentary on Netflix regarding the chef here. Decided to check it out. I can honestly say it's probably the best food I've had in years. Everything we had was made with pure perfection. We start it off with an appetizer that had a fresh peaches with ricotta, sea salt, and olive oil on a piece of fresh bread that was amazing. We then moved in to the pasta. We got the traditional Ragu along with a spicy spaghetti and a Parmesan and pesto dish, which was our absolute favorite. It really is amazing how much better handmade pasta taste. Everything we had we couldn't get enough of. We ended our meal with a Panna cotta with fresh tangerines. I've never had tangerines so good. ultimately I cannot wait to go back to this restaurant and I can't stop talking about it. It definitely lives up to the hype. I was able to get a same-day reservation, but also I called right as they opened and requested a 5 PM reservation before it got busy. we ate downstairs while Chef Evan was in the window making pasta. I had high hopes for this place especially since getting a reservation was so difficult and my expectations were not met. The atmosphere was speculation as you walk in to see this glass box where you can see people make fresh pasta. Makes the place feel alive. However, it goes downhill from there. Our waiter starts by saying that we have to order everything at once and cannot add anything to our order because it is so busy. This made us very uncomfortable since it made the ordering more stressful as I am a big foodie and want to try everything. We got the seasonal artichokes which were so bland it tasted like air. Then we got the famous marinara bread which I enjoyed trying, but would not order again as it just didn't wow me. I would recommend just getting the bread and a side of olive oil. The apple fennel salad was delicious. We got the lemon pizza which again was interesting to try, but would not get again. I would recommend getting a side of olive oil to rub the pizza crust in. The worst part of the meal the pastas. I should have known when I didn't like Felix's pasta, but the pastas here were even worse. The only good one was the spinach gnudi, however it was extremely rich almost too much with the oil, parmesan cream, and riccota. The seasonal truffle pasta was bland and not as rich and cheesy as I would like. The rigatoni all'amatriciana and tagliatelle were both awful, the tagliatelle I actually spit out as it tasted like tuna. Finally, the only reason I am giving it 3 stars is the desserts. OMG!!! I would come back just to order their desserts. We got the peanut butter chocolate, persimmon budino, and chocolate gelato. I was already so full from all the other food and I still could not resist licking the plates on both desserts. I highly recommend the chocolate ice cream with the peanut butter chocolate dessert. Overall, the experience at the beginning put us on edge, but after we ordered, the rest of the meal went great. The food was alright and for the price point wouldn't recommend it. Absolutely LOVE Funke. This was my second time dining and it was just as delicious as the first. I was able to pop upstairs to Bar Funke before my reservation and enjoy a drink on the rooftop. It was a vibe and my cocktail was delicious. There were heating lamps which helped with the chilly evening weather. For our actual dinner we tried a little of it all. The evening started of the wrong foot, first the hostess at the front but also our waiter both made the statement that our reservation was for two hours, 'please be ready to be done by 8pm'. Seriously it's rude, it sets the wrong tone and frankly what are you going to do about it if we are still seated at 8.05pm. It was tacky even if I understand you need to turn tables, there are a million better ways for you to achieve the same result. Food was excellent, portion were good size, overall I must say no complaint. We didn't get deserts so I cannot comment on that but again we would have exceeded our allocated time if we had ordered desert, I guess the lack of coffee and desert to the bill failed to be accounted for by management in their strict guidelines, really stupid. First of all, I want to say that the food was SPECTACULAR! We ordered the Sfincione Palermitano for appy. It was a puffed focaccia bursting with flavors. For entree we went with the Cacio e Pepe and the Tagliatelle. Both were wonderful! Of course the pasta was fresh, but the flavors were out of this world! Definitely worth the hype. And for dessert, you must order the Meringata. A lemon blueberry granita with creme fraiche and panna cotta. Why I gave this place 4 stars? I was confused with the ambiance. We were seated upstairs instead of the main dining area where I had originally requested in my reservation. I honestly felt like we were sent to the kids' table, or "the back". The music was very loud and I felt like I was about to go clubbing afterwards. (Yes I said "clubbing"! I'm that old!) I didn't expect classical music, but I also didn't expect hip hop as I ate my $50 entree. We've done upscale and we've done hole in the walls, but I was a little bit turned off with the snootiness of the service. Yes, I am another victim/slave of hype from hearing about Funke after watching his feature on Noodles (Netflix). Getting reservations was easier than I thought, be ready exactly a week before to make them and you should be golden! The layout was pretty cool and modern inside, and we didn't even get to check out the 2nd or 3rd floor. Enough with the nonsense, let's get to what we're all here for: -Squash blossoms: incredible. Light and crispy with a delicious cheesy, creamy filling. -Filet mignon tartare: the absolute star of the night. The focaccia served with this was like eating a cloud of deliciousness. We were scraping the bowl with it by the end. -Panzanella salad: delicious heirloom tomato salad with burrata on top -Fennel and honey crisp salad: one of the specials of the night, but it was just meh. The most forgettable dish of the night -Pappardelle in duck ragu: WOW the pasta was so delicious, texture was also on point -Tagliatelle in ragu bolognese: again, amazing pasta! Just like his original restaurant, Felix, the steak Florentino was delicious, seasoned, and cooked perfectly. The Dama salad was good. I liked the meatballs, which seemed like they were crusted on the exterior. My fiance didn't like that. The Cacio pepe,pesto pasta, and ragu linguine were all great. I'll start off with the good stuff. Food was good across the board. Some great (duck ragu was star of the night, followed by focaccia), some good (bolognese was good, needed cheese, pesto was good), some meh (ravioli in butter sauce blah, no flavor, citrus fennel salad good, but not worth it). Wine pairings suggested by waiter were excellent. The real issue for us was that one of the servers spilled a glass of red wine on my husband that splashed on the rest of us. Of course, my husband had on a brand new, expensive, light colored shirt, and the wine was all over the sleeve, his jeans, my sweater and my sister in law's shirt. Thankfully she & I both had black on. A few servers rushed over to clean up the wine off the floor which they did quickly. No one offered my husband, or any of us anything to clean off our clothes. And no one thought to offer something for my husband to get his shirt cleaned. Zero, nada. He asked if they had wine away, and someone said yes, and they brought him a couple Shout stain wipes. Unfortunately those did not do the trick. His jeans and shirt still stained. What really shocked me was that instead of offering to comp something - anything we ordered, they brought us another pasta as an apology. Here's the thing - we were all stuffed by then, it was the end of the dinner, no one asked us if were wanted anything, and they just brought something random to the table. We all tried it, but they could have done much, much better giving us credit for something we wanted instead of shoving more food at us on an already crowded table. No acknowledgement from anyone except the waiter when he brought the pasta dish. Is a restaurant this expensive, I would call this really poor service. This was an opportunity to shine, and they missed it. My friend who had joined us for dinner just finished reading Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara, and that kind of put an exclamation point on this whole experience. Both my sister in law & my friend had previously been to Funke around 9 months ago and both commented that the service has really fallen down over the last 9 months - not close to what it was last time they dined there. I happen to be in HR, so always want to cut employees and organizations some slack for figuring out how to even operate in California - I know it's hard to hire and manage here and next to impossible to just keep up with the changing landscape in CA. It was hard to find our waiter when we needed him, so I know they were very busy that night. That said, we've been out to a lot of restaurants in southern CA, and this was a bummer ending to our meal and our experience. read more

If you saw the Netflix show and want to taste the handmade pasta, RSVP FOR THE EARLIEST RESERVATION POSSIBLE!!!! We had a late-night reservation and were informed that the restaurant was out of handmade pasta due to the large demand from the show. It was extra frustrating because we could see actual handmade pasta right behind the host stand but was told that was for the next day's service. :( The very nice managers were able to accomodate us by finding one fresh pasta option still left for the day (the Angolotti). Food review: Arancino Catanese: Hard pass. They taste like pizza bites and were anti climatic. Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe: Absolutely disgusting. I took 1.5 bites and gave up. I have no problem with al dente pasta, but this had a very gummy, rubbery mouth feel. Covered in a bland cream sauce and drowned in pepper. The handmade Angolotti: Amazing. 5 stars. This is an example of why you come here. Wow. So delicate yet delicious. Ambiance: Note that we were seated upstairs. Right behind us was an elevator, which was fairly distracting because every time it opened, it flooded the room with bright light. It is also very noisy upstairs - I think sound is either bouncing off the ceiling or carrying up and over. Not a romantic setting, which is fine, but no decor or anything to really give it a vibe. Service: While the on-shift manager(s?) were SUPER nice, the actual wait staff wasn't really on top of it. To be super fair to the staff, we were a later in the evening reservation on a Friday so I'm sure they were super tired. Examples of what I was hoping for from our service: Someone to come by and check in on how we liked the food, someone to come by and check on refilling our soda. It was like, once our order was submitted, that was it. The managers did ask us to come back another time and try the food again, but it takes us over an hour to get to the bowels of Beverly Hills (the Bermuda triangle of Los Angeles hahahah). So yeah - final takeaway is - if you are really set on trying this place out, get the earlier reservation for the day and call ahead if you have your heart set on a specific dish to ensure it is available. read more

We had a reservation and after a short wait, we were seated on the 2nd floor. The wait staff (waiters, runners, busers) were all excellent, though Hostesses were average for such a good place. Had dinner at Funke last night and I'm still dreaming about it. My friend and I started with drinks on the rooftop, which was so cute. I really appreciate that Funke offers non alcoholic drinks on their menu. I ordered the Zagato which was a passion fruit based drink and was so tasty. For dinner we ate at the restaurant and it did not disappoint. The La Mortazza was deliciously nutty, peppery, and meaty but I also found a bit heavy as an appetizer. The Dama Bianca was a nice palate refresher after having the La Mortazza but was definitely on the more acidic end for me. The pastas at Funke are cooked to al dente perfection and are so so so so so good. We ordered the cacio e pepe that was deliciously cheesy and creamy, but was slightly salty (most likely from the pecorino). The orecchiette was by far my favorite and had a nice spicy kick to it. Minus the, portions were definitely on the smaller end. But it's expected when you eat at $$$$ restaurants. I was on the 2nd floor and it was so incredibly loud between the music and the volume in which everyone was talking. My friend and I had to keep asking each other to repeat ourselves. If you ever find yourself in Beverly Hills, Funke is a solid pick for a classy meal and drink. The restaurant is divided into three floors, with a bar on the roof. For our meal, we sat on the second level. Warm, low-light atmosphere with a comfortable booth and table setup. Great service through and through. Compliments to the staff for making the experience smooth and seamless. Now, when it comes to the food itself, we noticed a theme. The cocktails were wonderful. The tomato-focaccia appetizer, fennel salad, and the Diavola pizza were excellent. Here's the thing. Evan Funke is known for his pasta, and we ordered with that in mind. We ordered the Bolognese and Rigatoni All'Amatriciana. To be frank, we were disappointed. To our taste, the bolognese was mushy, too milky and not enough tomato. The rigatoni tasted and had the texture of oak bark. Perhaps we had an off night on the pasta front. If you're feeling pricy, you'll find great cocktails and a damn good slice of pizza at Funke. Very good food but...uneven and unpleasant service. Dustin was the saving grace - he was warm and welcoming and recommended an outstanding bottle of wine. But it was interesting that the hostess "forgot" to give us the wine menu to begin with and the waiter "forgot" to ask if we were there for a special occasion - though these appeared to be standard procedures for other tables. Actually, we were there for my birthday, and we watched as both tables to the left and to the right were asked about their special occasions and delivered a nice dessert (by the same waiter). Not us, though. Makes you wonder if it has to do with being non-white? Not the "right" demographic? Not a good thing to have to contemplate for a birthday dinner. Service was outstanding! The food and drinks were amazing and delicious. Desserts were also exceptional. I applaud our servers Nick, Hannah, Tommy and Renee. We were celebrating Mother's Day and they made our visit to this lovely restaurant memorable. read more

Watch your money after you leave this place. A waitress decided to write in her own tip after I had left! The manager gave me the money back after I went back to the restaurant! I would've been without the money that was stolen from me if I hadn't checked my balance after leaving! read more

Came on a Friday to Bar Funke. You can make reservations 1 week in advance but we walked in and put our name down for a seat, luckily they had a high top open. The service and ambiance was great. The food was mostly good, but there were some dishes like the Arancini that was a little dry for me: would've been good with sauce. Outside of that, rest of experience was great! read more
