That being said Cupcake Market takes the Cupcake trophy winning over Magnolia, Buttercup Bakeshop and Sprinkles for best fluffiest most delicious buttercream cupcakes. Cupcakes were about $4 something and were pretty decently sized and average in my opinion. I had a great conversation about the Taylor and Kimye feud with the cashier boy, so good service and he offered us to try some flavors. The famous people cookies are $12 each which to me is something I would rather take a pic of then eat. The guy didn't let me do the rally of which side I was on #teamtaylor because I had to buy a cookie. Delicious cupcakes! I had the banana cupcake with strawberry icing. The banana cake was dense, almost like banana bread. The icing was creamy and topped with fresh strawberries. I also had the banana pudding, which was some of the best I've ever had. My only critique was the queue situation- it was confusing to understand who had already ordered, and the shopkeepers were busy chatting with various regular customers. They were quite friendly but the ordering experience took a bit longer than it should have. Will definitely be returning to this cupcake shop. read more

very okay experience I had here. I ordered a cake and I was not so pleased with it. for starters- the prices online are completely different than when you go in. I had gone online and saw the prices for cakes, and went in with that idea. when I went into the bakery to place my order, they gave me much higher prices and this was unfair. the prices online should be honored. furthermore, the cake decorations are very inconsistent. some cakes will have almost 15 flowers on it. but I ordered the exact same cake with the same specifications and instead only got a few flowers, about 7. they were larger flowers but the cake looked worse and this is not what I requested. the point of it is to have a 'full bouquet' cake-- since the cost for full flowers is much more than the 'half flower' cake. the flowers are very pretty and the cake flavor was great. but I did not enjoy my experience at the bakery, and don't think I would order another cake from here. Also-- as a price point- almost $150 for a regular 8 inch cake with just buttercream flowers?? there was no fondant of sugar flowers or anything that would prompt a cake to be of that price. I have gotten a two tired cake with fondant work on it for the same price as a small 8 inch cake. I wouldn't order again. I also tried a few cupcakes- VERY plain and regular cupcakes. not special or worth the hype or price. The service was the real deal breaker for me- so subpar. I wanted writing on my cake and I was told 'oh you know, the cake looks so pretty without writing, you don't even need it' lol excuse me, I just paid $150 for a small cake and I can't even get writing on it? Bakeries and cakes should be all about customizing an experience. I wouldn't return and do not recommend this place. read more

Great Cupcakes & Cookies. We got a red velvet cupcake with a cream cheese frosting, a dark chocolate cupcake with a vanilla frosting & a double dark chocolate cupcake (these are basically their staple flavors). I like their cupcakes because the cupcakes are a substantial size with a very rich cake-like texture that's moist and not too dense. My favorite is the dark chocolate cupcake with a dark chocolate ganache style frosting. The cupcake is a perfect blend/balance of dark chocolate flavors (not too sweet but sweet! - quality rich flavors nothing artificial). The ganache was just dense enough as was the cakes moist texture (perfect fluffy-to-dense balance textures throughout). Now I only planned on getting a few cupcakes but I seen a crazy looking chocolate chip cookie in the display by the register, so I got it too. This was the best decision I made all day because I love chocolate chip cookies and this cookie at this cupcake store is straight crack! It was a big classic homemade milk chocolate chip chocolate. I was lucky to get a warm one and it tasted like a gourmet nestle cookie. It was super gewy with crisper edges but mainly a super gewy mess of milk chocolate and cookie dough (crack). Overall a Perfect balance of flavors, must must try. They have coffee/hot cocoa/drinks too and accept credit cards. We found this little gem in the East Village on the second day of our NYC trip. The cupcakes had us hooked. I've eaten a lot of cupcakes at many different bakeries, but this place tops them all. Amazing amazing amazing. Everything is delicious, we got a half of a dozen cupcake and tried a piece of each and they were all amazing. We got the strawberry with chocolate, peanut butter banana, toasted coconut, chocolate chocolate, strawberry vanilla, red velvet and an extra of carrot cake. We also tried their banana bread (which melts in your mouth) and the banana pudding (to die for.) They are all so good that we have to go back and try the rest of them. Hands down my favorite cupcakes in NYC. I had the chocolate with strawberry frosting and their seasonal flavor pumpkin spice. The cupcake itself is a good size. They do not put an abundance of frosting (which I hate) and add the perfect amount. The frosting is also not too sweet and is very light in texture. The cake is so moist and dense and delicious, that it actually caught me off guard when I took the first bite. This bakery is out of the way for me to get to, but it is sooooo worth it and I will gladly trek back. read more

They said we could make it and I could pick it up the next day. I went in early to beat the rush and placed my order. We discussed a red velvet cupcake with a red rose and leaves. They suggested it. I got the attached instead. I was excited to pick it up and they briefly showed it to me in the box and it was three flowers but I didn't realize there were no leaves. I called to see if they could fix it but instead of saying of course happy too they said "I wish you said something when you were here as that they could not make red because the designer only made pink." Why offer red when you wouldn't make it? They said I could come back but with the next 30 minuets and then hung up on me. Talk about making something special feel really awful. This is a gift that is going into the trash. I'm newly gluten free, yet still cupcake obsessed. Since I've heard great things about this place, I decided to walk here & give it a try. I was so excited, yet when I arrived yesterday I was told there were no gluten free products because the gluten free baker wasn't in. Devastated. The girls working at this quaint, cozy little bakery were really empathetic, though, & felt bad that I'd not only walked from the west side, but that I was so let down. Everything looked so good, & not wanting to leave empty handed, I asked if I could just have some frosting. (I'm a frosting girl) And the woman behind the counter made me my own frosting! I chose 2 flavors, & it took her about 10 min to whip up. I was so grateful, & the frosting was incredible!! I can only imagine how good it will b on top of the actual cake! I thought I'd have to give up cupcakes but I've just become a regular at Cupcake Market! And I will recommend this place to all- gluten free's & non gluten free's alike. read more

As a lifelong New Yorker and cupcake enthusiast, I've been around the block more than a few times, and I will not hesitate to claim that Funny Face Bakery makes the ABSOLUTE BEST CUPCAKES I HAVE EVER HAD. They are baked to a masterful degree of moistness, resulting in a cake that is beautifully soft and spongy. The icing (chocolate buttercream and strawberry are my favorites) is not cloyingly sweet, with just the right degree of smooth richness to perfectly complement the cake below. These cupcakes are truly works of edible art, as are the fantastically creative face cookies. However, it would be negligent to ignore the oversized chocolate chip cookies, which are wonderfully crunchy on the outside and deliciously soft and filled with chocolatey goodness on the inside. I'm usually not a big CC cookie person, but these are on a whole different level. In conclusion, if you have any appreciation for cupcakes or cookies or just phenomenal baking in general, you must visit Funny Face. read more
