Firstly, service here is mediocre at best. Don't expect to be greeted, smiled at, or even spoken to. The waitress here has never smiled in all the times I've stopped by and is extremely rude (eye rolls, etc.). You can tell she really hates her job and probably feels obligated to work for family reasons or w.e. Don't say, "thank you" or "bye" to her...you won't get any response. Decor is minimal. Don't expect anything fancy. It's your usual take-out sushi place. I once sat in the booth to the far left corner of the room. Guess what was stashed in the corner shelving right by our heads? Meds. Yep, someone's prescription medication was out in the open in our booth. Food is good. I haven't gotten sick eating from here *knocks on wood*. They can forget what to put on the rolls sometimes (ex: leaving the mango off a mango dragon roll) OR the waitress may forget an entire roll or two. Overall, great for a quick meal if you're in the area. Not so good for date-nights as it's meh inside and service is horrible. There are much nicer places with immensely better service. Check out Takara. Everything is AMAZING there and their menu continues to expand as the owner is open to customer suggestions. read more

Honestly, for the price the food was a 7/10, but the reason I give it 3 stars is the price. If you're hungry a dinner deal with 3 rolls, miso soup, and a salad is a pretty solid deal. My only issue is that the single rolls were about $4 or $5 so that seemed like a stretch for the quality and quantity. The restaurant was clean, and the service was friendly. Came to eat sushi with family... was very disappointed with buffet. It is cheap for a buffet but the quality of the kitchen entree was beyond a disgrace. All the food that was given to us was made with the same sauce. Sushi was not as fresh as it could have been and if you wanted sashimi it was an extra $5... also worst of all there was no dessert menu. What in the world is going on at Futigi in Fresh Meadows? This place has been a hit or miss for many years, but it has taken a terrible turn for the worst as of late. IMHO, when they are on point, they do a famously good job, yet when they screw up, they screw up so bad that there's no turning back. And, on top of that they are adamant about it. I mean, despite their mistakes, that over-the-top young lady that answers the phone 10 out of ten times refuses to be persuaded by any logic whatsoever. Changing her mind to do the right thing for the customer is not even in her mindset. Her dynamic with with me never changes (always offensively impolite or ill-mannered) even when it would be prudent for her to have a positive attitude towards (me) the customer. One time, I called in three minutes after the lunch special was over (11:00 AM to 3:30 PM) and she would NOT give me the discount. Keep in mind, I usually order at least three or four times a month from these folks. She was adamant about doing the right thing even though she knows I order all the time from them. I had to ask for the manager, and after about four minutes or so, he approved my request and granted my 'Lunch Special' discount. There consistency level is terrible. There's no conformity in their approach or a way of dealing with something. I usually order "delivery," and the same exact order can take anywhere from 30 to 80 minutes to be delivered and it (usually) has nothing to do with whether or not they're busy. The restaurant is almost always empty more times than not. About a week and a half ago, I had an important meeting to attend, so I figured I'd order for "pick up" so I can guaranty I will get my food, eat it and make my appointment in time. Boy, was that a BIG mistake. Placed the order, and the young man that answered the phone told me, "ten or fifteen minutes." I said, "ten or fifteen minutes, are you sure?" He replied, "Ten minutes." I replied, "See you soon." I figured I'll show up in about fifteen minutes, due to the fact it takes at least that amount of time to prepare and make the food I ordered. I showed up about eighteen minutes later and the food was hardly ready. This seriously simple order took another 30 minutes to prepare. As you can imagine, I was super disappoint, on a few levels; I knew better and still ordered from these folks; I was going to be super late to my meeting; and I had to sit there and listen to them scream at each other while they work on my order. The food items that should have been cool were warm and the hot food items were cold. I was not a happy camper that evening. Keep in mind, the place was empty on a Friday night and the phone was not ringing for any delivery or pick up orders. After all that, I asked the gentleman what he was going to do for me. He said, "I will give you 10% off your order." I took the lame offer and ran. Despite all this (IMHO) insanity, I still place a "Lunch Special" order earlier today. It was around $40.00 USD and at the end of the call, I asked (my rude) phone order taker to put it on the credit card I have on file with you. FYI, I only have one card on file, so it's a no-brainer most of the time. Usually she reads out the last four digits of my card and asks me if that's it, and every time she does that, I say, "yes, it's the only card you have on file." I guess it's kind of a ritual for us. Perhaps, someone must have mentioned to her that she should ask for the number and not give it out for security reasons, so this time around she asked me what the last four digits were on the card. I responded, my card is downstairs and I don't have it with me. She said, you have to give it to me for security reasons. I said, I understand, but I'm calling from the same number I have called you for years, you know my voice, and I have spent thousands of dollars with your restaurant over the years with the same card you have on file. She just would NOT budge. There was no reasoning with her. Our phone conversation got seriously ugly to the point that we were screaming at each other. Towards the end of our misery and great distress I said, "it's on you, do you want my money or not?" She said, I DON'T WANT YOUR MONEY" and hung up on me. And, that was that... I tried to call back to reason with her a number of times but, she kept screaming at me and hanging up. This individual is unshakable and inflexible. Right or wrong she is unwavering and CANNOT compromise even when her business depends on it. It's quite a shame, because when they are on point, it's a good eating experience. That being said, I don't have to ask for a "zero star option," because they are worth at least one star. It's a crying shame that they 'cannot see the forest for the trees.' She is so involved in the details of her own bubble, she cannot see the bigger picture, that the customer must come first. read more

I have been going to and ordering from this place for years because I live a few blocks away. The majority of their staff was always pretty rude and unfriendly and I stopped ordering at some point because I found a booger with a hair in my Boston Roll and I threw up after I ate their Shrimp Pad Thai once. Against my better judgment, I decided to try them again and the food has definitely improved, but they are extremely overpriced for their very meager portions. Unfortunately, this restaurant is extremely greedy. Placed a $70 order with them on Grubhub and put a side note on some of my items for spicy mayo on the side because they didn't have the option to pay to add it on. Futigi calls me up and says that I need to pay $1 for the spicy mayo. I told the guy that there is no option to add spicy mayo on Grubhub and asked that he please let it slide this time and next time I would be sure to pay for the spicy mayo and he argues with me saying there is an option on Grubhub to add it....over $1. He told me to give the delivery driver $1 for the spicy mayo. I promptly cancelled my order. What horrible and greedy customer service. I am willing to pay anything for fresh, quality food and I am certainly not a stingy person, but I cannot stand greedy businesses with bad customer service. I personally think the best value you get is from the lunch/dinner specials or the all you can eat. Food is fresh, there isn't usually too long if a wait. You may not get that friendly service that some people may be looking for, but they're consistent. Eh, this place is really hit or miss. The sushi is never fantastic, but rarely inedible. The Franklin Roll is their best in my opinion. I wouldsn't stray too far outside of the rolls to the regular sushi, as the fish never tastes that fresh. The old sushi chef was okay, but they've had a string of crappy ones for a while. Prices are cheap, and they have a couple different sakes to choose from. Ambiance is typical cheap sushi place. One thing though is that it feels like it is always empty. I remember walking in one time and it looked like the place was robbed, it was completely empty. The waitress was napping in a booth and got up when we came in. That was weird... It was 6 o'clock, not really that early. Stop in here if you need a quick sushi fix. Otherwise, you're better off up a couple stores at Napoli's for pizza. read more

I like this place a lot because I like the sushi chef. He makes pretty good sushi and very polite. Came here a while ago and my boyfriend and I had their all you can eat sushi buffet. We were really excited because in this area, there's not much AYCE sushi. The lighting was awfully dim and there wasn't many workers to take care of you. About 30 minutes into ordering and eating, I did not feel good. My stomach was churning into knots and so I sat there for a few and just drank tea. It helped until it didn't when I had to use the bathroom. I knew it was time for us to leave. Luckily, my boyfriend was done with his rounds of sushi and was ready to leave as well. My stomach was in a lot of pain as we were walking home (thankfully it was only a couple of blocks away and nothing too crazy). I had to stop a couple of times during the walk because of how bad my stomach felt. I instantly went to the bathroom once I got into the house and my goodness, I felt bad for my toilet (TMI? Better safe than sorry). My boyfriend also mentioned that he felt nauseous. Please be careful eating there. We didn't eat anything beforehand so their food might have not been fresh that time. Never came in here to eat, but have had catered lunches serveral times for my office (roughly for 13-15 people). Can't say that the food is excellent, but it's decent and good. My favorite item on the menu is the Red Curry dish with shrimp. It's delicious and they are very generous with the shrimp portions. They also have fruit teas on their menu like passion fruit green tea, and lychee/peach green tea, all of which are very good. The only miss here are the sushi rolls. Def not the best sushi out there and doesn't taste very fresh, so skip the sushi. But considering that they offer lunch specials on the weekends, I give Futigi four whole stars. PS - for those that want to order for large parties, go for it! They are always very prompt with delivery and precise with orders. read more

I love the rolls here. The crab tempura rolls are delicious and their spider rolls are pretty tasty too. I used to always get their duck dinner boxes, but for the cost and the amount of food I was getting, I kinda stopped ordering it , being the duck was hit or miss. Haven't been there in a while, and was hit by the fishy odor as I entered the restaurant, a true sign of not so fresh fish. The food tasted fine, not five star, but fine. I LOVE shshi. Every city I visit, I sample a sushi restaurant for decor, taste, cleanliness, service and ambiance. Futugi is my "neighborhood" sushi restaurant; I can get there within a 10-minute walk. Over the years, it seems that this place if always under new management although there are no outside signs to indicate the change. Suffice to say that the sushi chef, waitress and other support staff are always different. On this past Tuesday evening, June 6, 2017, my wife and I decided to revisit for the all-you-can-eat buffet at $20.99 per person and was informed that if we wanted sashimi there would be an additional $3 charge. She went sashimi, I went standard sushi. Decor: 2 stars -- Adequate. They removed booths and replaced with 4 seat tables and chairs. Taste: 1 star -- Below Par. Every dish ordered should have its own distinct flavor, its own essence able to stand separate from other dishes. We found that there was little originality and our 3 dishes prepared and served with the same honey-soy sauce dribbled over the meat-dish appetizers. The only difference was in the dish's presentation; taste was the same. The tea was first served hot, but subsequent refills apparently came from the same pot, which was left to cool down so that by our third refill the tea was at room temperature. Disappointing. I love eel sushi. The proper serving should arrive warm (not hot or cool or room temperature); it's one of the reasons why many better-quality sushi restaurants don't want to send eel for delivery as it will not be warm when it arrives at your door. My first order was for 5 and each of them were cool, despite a Godzilla roll served warm, and had a fishy taste. Other rolls ordered were uninspired to say the least. I ordered a total of 4 different rolls and 8 eels, having felt it necessary to inform the waitress to serve the second 3-eel order at proper temperature instead of waiting for the other dishes to be served at the same time. Although the second serving of eel arrived at the right temperature, it still had a fishy taste that was disconcerting. The wasabi was tasteless, made so mild that it was unnessary as it didn't add any spice or flavor to the meal. Cleanliness: 2 stars -- Adequate. Service: 2 stars -- Adequate. Although our waitress on this evening was amiable and courteous, when she refilled my wife's tea the second time she spilled tea outside the cup and never returned to clean up the mess; she seemed oblivious of the spill. Ambiance: 2 stars -- Adequate. This is a neighborhood sushi restaurant with a neighborhood feel. The room is tastefully furnished, but, for me, their choice of music was not to my liking. In conclusion, for a sushi lover, one can forgive almost anything if the food rocks. In this instance on this evening, the little missteps added to our overall dissatisfaction. We have vowed (to each other) not to revisit Futigi for 1 year or sooner if we recognize new management is in place. If you like sushi and rolls served in a buffet style, I recommend Mitsumi on Northern Blvd. It's a little more expensive, but you'll be happy with the food. If you want great sushi that doesn't have a buffet menu, I would stay with Zen-Fusion located on Parsons Blvd. and Union Trnpke. read more
