This is now our 4th time, I think, ordering from Gallo Nero. First 3 times we dined in and this time we got a pizza for takeout. I rarely write reviews unless it was a good experience or something really not good happened. Gallo Nero has been great! Only once did we have any sort of issue and that was a dine in where they gave my partner the wrong salad. He still ate the salad he got and was very impressed with it. So far I have had chicken parm, Fusilli alla Vodka Pasta, tortellini Prosciutto and last night we got a pizza with roasted tomato, ricotta and meatball. Nothing has let us down. It's all great. My fave so far, tortellini Prosciutto. It's amazing and I think about it at least once a week. Staff is great, ambiance is perfect and it's very clean. Super happy we found this place. read more

I personally really wanted to like this but unfortunately I just didn't. The place is kinda out dated but the waitress was nice. I got the chicken broccoli ziti unfortunately the only good part was the pasta but the broccoli was hard and the chicken looked like the frozen Tyson's chicken and it was rubbery. We enjoy the food especially since they offer gluten free options for pasta and pizza, however this evening our service was extremely poor. For a Friday night it was slow with 2 people at the bar, a party of 8 in the back room and another table of 3, and yet, we didn't see our waitress after she took our order until it came time for the check. Doesn't look like much, but this is a great little spot with delicious homemade Italian classics. Great hand tossed pizzas, pasta dishes, and more. All ingredients are fresh, dishes made to order, and prices are reasonable. Staff is friendly and the atmosphere is casual and inviting. We had dinner at Gallo Nero on Friday 4/24/2021. We were disappointed. The food is great, the service is great, but while we were eating we were overcome with the smell of some clean product. It was like we were sitting in a gas station bathroom while they washed the floor with pine oil cleaner We found out they were actually cleaning the tables with this product. I don't know what they were thinking. We told the waitstaff that we did not appreciate the very smelly cleaner while we were trying to eat. I hope the find a much more appropriate cleaner!!!! read more

Great little Italian place in downtown Peabody. They do a good takeout business, but you can also eat inside, which I did. The food & service are good, and the prices are reasonable. Each entree comes with a side salad. I had the chicken broccoli & fusilli, which was good. The BF had tortellini in a cream sauce with the freshest peas I've ever tasted. We saw other tables get pizza, and it looked very tasty - will need to try it. read more

I have been here a few times. It's just ok. Meh at best unfortunately. I have tried to give this place the benefit of a doubt. But after tonight I'm done. This is the second issue with the same order. I ordered a Buffalo Chicken Pizza for my wife. I know it comes with grilled chicken. So I asked for CRISPY/FRIED chicken. I really made sure she completely understood. Guess what I was wrong. Not sure if there's a disconnect with the food terminology or a language barrier or both. But luckily this time I checked the pizza there before I leave. What is it? You guessed it overcooked well done GRILLED chicken. She tells me fried and grilled chicken are the same. Nope they are two completely different ways to cook chicken. So I speak to I assume a manager or the owner who comes at me like I'm the one who made a mistake. No apology no offer to fix this situation. Everyone has a miserable expression on their faces. Very poor customer service skills. I've been in this industry for 20 years. My husband and I were staying in for New Year's and wanted to enjoy a nice meal together. When I tell you, this was the worst food we have ever had in our entire lives it's not an exaggeration. He took one bite of his meal and threw it away. I was thankfully able to eat the eggplant rollatini , which was salvageable, but my main meal of gnocchi was the least appetizing thing I've ever tasted. They definitely took frozen potato gnocchi and dumped a can of tomato sauce on it. Extremely disappointing. read more

After having many people tell me to go try it out I finally got the chance to pop in and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. The pizza was perfect from the crust to the sauce. Last night I ordered a pizza and noticed as soon as I got home it was totally different I am assuming there was an ownership change because that was not the same pizza. Went here last night for pizza takeout. First time here. Pizza was ok although not as hot as I thought it should be. Might have sat a few minutes before being brought out to me from the kitchen. The kitchen is partially visible and one of the workers had his mask below his nose the 15 minutes I was there. I was going to ask for a refund and leave but I did take the pizza. I told the person about the visible worker and she apologized. Any restaurant who isn't following the protocols should not be serving the public.I won't be going back here. read more

This is my favorite place for take out in Peabody. The pizza here is very good. I usually get a shrimp Caesar salad and the shrimp are always fresh! Sometimes I'll get the tortellini Parma and it's SO GOOD. Plus, they give you rolls and side salads when you order entrees! The sauce here is excellent but the service is so bad they can't even get more than one star. Our waitress appeared to be on drugs, forgetting what we asked for several times in a row. This included ordering veal saltimbocca for my aunt instead of the chicken. I literally told her I wanted a sprite three times. We were the only ones in the restaurant. My aunt never ate her meal, telling her it didn't taste right. It was then she informed us that veal was ordered, Nevermind the fact that the two of us are morally against eating veal. Either way, the woman still made us pay for it despite the fact that we were angry and my aunt went hungry. In addition, she added her tip on herself to ensure we tipped her. My first time there, Friday night 7:00PM. A friend recommended this place to me, so I thought I would give it a try. When you first walk in, it appears to be small and not very inviting. However, once you are served your bread and garlic/oil....you will be very happy you ventured over to this place. I got a shrimp/asparagus dish which was LOADED with shrimp and asparagus and topped with a very, garlicky cream sauce.....over linguini. The price of under $15 included a small salad......There was so much food in this dish, I took some home and there was enough to have lunch the next day. My friend got veal cutlet over penne pasta in a red sauce. She raved how crispy the breaded veal was. And it appeared to me, that it was a real piece of veal. The pizza here is delicious. Sweet sauce, quality crusts (with whole wheat crusts available), amazing toppings. Unfortunately, they get orders wrong CONSTANTLY (easily once out of every three orders), their delivery is incredibly slow and unreliable (30 minutes frequently turns into an hour plus), and their dine-in service is poor, too. We used to order from there all the time but tonight they just lost us forever as customers! They just delivered us an order including two salads, one was a Caesar with no Caesar dressing and one was a specialty salad with wilted/some rotten pieces of baby greens. This also came without the promised homemade dressing. I called the restaurant to complain and was treated horribly! ! He started off by telling me that I was a liar, that the lettuce was fresh and the dressings had to be there. After arguing over this, I asked that they bring me a new salad or refund me. He told me I could go to the store to get cash back (even though I had paid on a card for delivery ) and that I should never call THEM again, HAHA. You can guarantee I will not! The owner had the little girl taking my order HANG UP (!) on me when I was questioning why they were charging me one price, when a menu online had a less expensive price. He actually didn't believe me and simply hung up on me! Would have gone in person to show the little sh*t my phone with the menu on it....but so not worth the effort. Drove to Polcari's - got take out there which was ready when I pulled up, paid for it and was home in the same time it would have taken me to go to sad little Gallo Nero. Tablecloth in a pizza joint? Service with a smile... and a level of professional expected high end restaurant? Minestrone soup? Delicately seasoned... Gluten free pasta? Basically indistinguishable from the wheat based variety... Steak salad? Very fresh and the steak was marinated to cut with a fork and melt in your mouth! This place has to be checked out to believe. This place absolutely gets 5 stars. From the time we walked in to the time we left we were made to feel welcome by the staff. They were much friendlier than your average restaurant. The food is exceptionally delicious as well. We have tried a lot of the other local Italian places, and this is by far the best. My husband and I both ordered pasta dishes, which came with a good sized salad. The dressing was very tasty and the vegetables were fresh. The pasta itself was excellent, the flavors were vibrant and the noodles were al dente. I can't forget to mention that the bread is absolutely delicious! It comes out fresh from the oven, make sure to try it with the garlic oil mixture they bring out. I am usually not impressed with desserts but immediately fell in love with cannoli there. So I want to say that I can't seem to find ANY good pizza places that deliver to Salem. I stopped ordering from Gallo Nero after the carrot on the pizza incident (see previous review) until tonight when I figured I would give them another shot. WHAT A MISTAKE. I will NEVER order from here again because obviously nothing has changed. Food is good when they can get it right but that is an actual miracle. Tonight we ordered a large pizza, insalata Athena & a large mozzarella stick. Took about an hour to get here which is fine because I wasn't in a rush or anything. Pizza was excellent but they forgot mozzarella sticks and gave me a garden salad (iceberg lettuce w large tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and Italian dressing that tastes like nothing except olive oil ) Not a huge deal I called and the man on the phone said he would send the corrections- awesome. We finished the entire pizza before they came back. Delivery driver handed me a very small bag and I was extremely confused...when I got in I realized that they sent the mozzarella sticks but to fix the salad they only sent me a salad dressing container of feta... that's it. I felt like they spit in my face, what a ballsy bullshit move on their part honestly. Where are the chopped tomatoes? The cucumbers? The olives? The Greek dressing? It was the absolute wrong salad and they sent me a 50 cent container of feta... They have absolute garbage customer service and I feel so disrespected by them. If I could give negative stars I would. I don't know how they're still in business. It's not enough to have decent food you also have to get it right and be decent people. read more

Used to love this place The little girl that answers the phone put me on hold for about 30 seconds and hung up on me. I say little because she must be to exude such ignorance and/or carelessness. I continued to call back literally non stop on both phone lines for 20 minutes (didn't even realize it was that long until I checked phones history) with no answer, not even to put me on hold. I then called from a different number and she answered, asking for my order, which I did not place. I called back from my phone again after that with no answer. Clearly they have caller ID and she felt bad after accidentally hanging up on me, but ignoring me did not fix the issue. You have now lost a 5 year old customer. Congratulations . read more

The food is very good here and the people are nice. There are never many people eating in the restaurant when I go in there, but don't let that fool you. They have tons of take out and delivery customers. I have enjoyed everything that I have eaten from here, from salads to pasta to pizza. The pizza is the best I have been able to find in Peabody. Went to this restaurant on a review from a friend. We went with another couple and had a restaurant.com voucher for $25 off $50. It's a cute little place, very clean with street parking. The server was very friendly and attentive. We went on a Monday night around 8pm and there were only 2 other tables of people. We started with the mozzarella sticks - they were good. Nothing amazing, but good. They also bring you bread and olive oil and it was fresh. I ordered the tortellini parma and my husband had a pepperoni pizza. Our dining partners had pasta con broccoli and a cheese pizza. We were all very satisfied with our meal. In fact, my husband never eats pasta in white sauces and he finished my tortellini! Gallo Nero certainly isn't fine dining, it's a little nicer than a basic pizza place but it was very good and I would go there again. read more
