I've had pizza from Gallo Nero Pizza at least 10 times, we live near it, so it's very convenient. I have had the white pizza, Margherita Pizza and just a plain cheese (for my niece and nephews). I've liked all of them, they were all very good. Crust is always nice and chewy and crispy at the same time. Their red sauce is a sweet sauce, so I'm a fan of that type of sauce. I've tried some of the non-pizza fare several time recently. I have to say, the fusilli (homemade) alla vodka is one of the best things I've ever tasted. The tiramisu is excellent as well. The pizza is definitely among the best in the area. They recently remodeled and expanded, and it feels more restaurant and less pizza shop now. read more

After being refused service for 9 at another restaurant we called Gallo Nero and were seated immediately. They were busy but treated us like we were the only people in the house. What a wonderful experience!! The food was amazing and the service was perfect. Alex, the owner, came over to out table several times to check on us. Who would expect a small restaurant in Peabody to serve North End quality Italian food and have awesome service to boot! The owners of Calitri's could learn a few things from Gallo Nero. It gets a four star on their food and five stars on their service they were extremely friendly,made to order ,we were specific how we wanted our sub,they did absoulutely incredible job,the sub we got was very large,it cost $8 but was worth every penny the vegetables are fresh and the bread tasted homemade! I'm from Peabody mass,and live across the street just about and it's the first time I've tried it since the new owners took over,so glad they did ,can not believe any of the bad reviews because I'm a great cook myself and I would rather eat my own cooking,and sincerely appreciate it when someone else can also make really delicious meals! I've eaten here twice for take out. It seems the girl here has a problem with completing orders . Both times I get home and something missing from my order. So I had to drive back both times to get my order straightened out. They really don't seem to care that this happens. It's kinda like oh well. Even though I mentioned it happened to me the last time. So today I figured I would give them a try again. I tried to pay for the order over the phone. And they refused my payment. This is an easy task that all restaurants do. Gallo Nero is a small casual resturant on Main St. in Peabody, MA. , in a space formerly occupied by "POPS PIZZA" The food is delicious and the prices are more than reasonable. When I go there with my wife I usually get the Scallop Pasta which has a generous helping of scallops in a cream sauce flavored with a little ham. I also like the white clam sauce. Pizza and sandwichs are on the menu too and are very good. I'm particular about my Pizza and Gallo Nero is one of the few places I order it. Wine and beer are available and the staff is very friendly. It has the feeling of a local place where everyone knows your name. Make a trip to Peabody to eat at Gallo Nero. read more

This is my favorite spot in the neighborhood. They have some amazing pasta dishes on the menu - the Fusilli a la Vodka is my favorite and it's not even the type of dish I normally like. I also get the Balsamico Chicken and a couple other pastas that are legit. Considering the price point, this place is a great value between the quality food with liberal portions, free side salad, and rolls. I also get takeout from time to time if I want a pizza or calzone. The pepper lover's pizza is my favorite and the outstanding Chicken Milanese calzone is a must try. read more

Gallo Nero was my favorite restaurant. Not any longer. The last four times I have been there, the service was horrendous. Four of us, three got meals that took awhile, fourth person got their meal over 45 minutes later. Cook forgot. No apologies. This is what has happened the other times also. The food here is excellent. I frequently get pizza and various pasta dishes here and everything I've ever received has been delicious! My only knock is very long delivery times (50 min to over a hour consistently) but i usually just pick it up now. Great food! read more

The wife and I were in town and she found this place. I ordered a calzone and she got some linguine with mussels. Kristianna, our server, was absolutely awesome. She took total ownership of us and let us know how the sauces and food was freshly made. She really impressed us! The food was very, very filling. I am glad my hotel has a microwave because I will be eating on my leftovers for lunch tomorrow. I wish I had more time in the Boston area to go back and try something new! read more

What a delicious meal! We haven't been to Gallo Nero since it was renovated and the interior is so much nicer! There is a large bar with lots of seats, that was completely packed when we got there. Gallo Nero now has a full liquor license and an expanded menu that came along with the renovations, both pluses. Our waitress was super friendly and helped to make our dining experience positive. Initially, we were served dinner rolls which were toasted and nothing too special, except the house made garlic olive oil they serve with the bread is so delicious, you want to keep eating more and more! I started with the homemade chicken lemon rice soup ($2.50) which was nice and hearty, containing lots of rice and white meat chicken. There was a subtle lemon flavor, but not overpowering. It was very enjoyable on this cold night! For our meal, we ordered the Classsico Pizza ($10.79), which was a delicious pizza topped with a sweet tomato sauce, romano and mozzarella cheese. The crust was doughy and the cheese was gooey...the perfect way to eat a pizza. We also ordered the Roasted Eggplant Ravioli Alla Margarita ($13.29) which came with a salad of our choice. We ordered the Caesar salad which was your typical Caesar salad with romaine, parmesan and croutons and a nice creamy dressing. The ravioli was served to us steaming hot, fresh out of the kitchen! The pasta was perfectly al dente and the filling was a flavorful eggplant and cheese mixture, smothered in a sweet tomato sauce with melted balls of fresh mozzarella. It almost tasted like a lightened up eggplant parmesan in a way, with the eggplant, cheese and sauce- without the fried part. It was very enjoyable. The waitress was able to sell us on the cannoli for dessert as soon as she told us the filling is homemade. Again, another delicious item here at Gallo Nero. We were pleasantly stuffed, and will definitely be back! read more

What a very pleasant surprise. The food was exceptional. We are very particular in how we like our pizza made. We were very pleased when our pizza was delivered to our table that it was made to our description. The best pizza we have had in a very long time. Other family members odered pasta dishes from the menu. The Lobster Ravioli was a big hit with my two young grandchildren. My daughter in law is extremely fussy about what she eats. She ordered the Veal Morlet and couldn't rave enough about how great it tasted. I would say we have found a new favorite place. This place was not good at all. How does a "pizza" place mess up pizza? I live a total of 7 minutes away from this place. It took them 1 hr and 35 minutes to get my food to me. I called 3 separate times to find out what the hold up was. First call, they "lost" my order. Then said it will be there in 20 mins.....30 mins goes by...still no food...called again. Said driver just left and will be there in 5. Guess what? 20 mins...no driver. By the time the food...if u can call it that arrived. It was soggy and ice cold. No apology OR explanation from the driver or the manager in duty. Couldn't even eat the food it had been sitting out so long before they brought it too me, took ONE bite of a slice..and that was it. My husband ordered a gluten free pizza. It was the worst tasting pizza he had ever had. The gluten free frozen pizza we get from the supermarket was far better than this one! I ordered a small carmelized onion and eggplant pizza. The onions were NOT carmelized, just soggy and tasteless as was the eggplant. They claim brick oven pizza...I doubt it. A total waste of money. NEVER AGAIN!! This is the second time I have ordered from this restaurant. Although their food is delicious my order was incorrect both times. The first time I ordered an egg, provolone, mushroom sub and I received an egg and american cheese sub. This time I ordered and egg, cheese, and mushroom sub and I got a steak, egg, and cheese sub. I am a vegetarian and don't eat meat so I was extremely frustrated this time and called the manager. I also asked for ranch dressing and got italian.
