My best friend really wanted to go here after we had a lovely day out, and I was pretty excited because I'd never been in before. First of all, the drink I had was amazing (the Mandarin Breeze). Second, the place is cozy, warm, homey, and wonderful. I really, really like it there. When I looked at the menu, I was a little worried since I'm vegetarian (and regrettably, a spicy food wimp), but I asked if it might be possible to make the fried noodles without meat. I normally don't really like to do this because I worry that it puts the chef out, so I was bracing myself for the no....but this was not the case! Our wonderful server said yes and asked if I were vegetarian, and when the dish came out, I was blown away!! The chef went all out! There were veggies and tofu, and the noodles were AMAZING!! I cannot recommend Gan Bei enough. Most meatless requests would have meant that it would have been just the fried noodles, which honestly would have already been awesome, but Gan Bei went so far above and beyond that I'm actually sitting down to write this really long review, hahaha. We also ordered the pea vines, which were excellent; the shredded chicken, which my friend said was superb, and a few other dishes that had meat that also got pretty rave reviews from my friend :) I highly recommend the Mandarin Breeze; it was delightful. Came by on a Saturday afternoon while a street food festival was going on right outside their restaurant. So, we were the only ones in there and had their full attention, which was fantastic! We were greeted immediately by a super sweet server when we walked in. We sat down and looked over their menu. Everything looked pretty tasty but only had room for so many dishes. So, we had to make some hard decisions. When the server came back, we decided on the sticky fried rice, pan fried shrimp rolls, jalapeno garlic fried chicken wings and stir fry enoki with egg tofu. The chicken wings came out 1st and it was piping hot! Like, the kind of hot where you have to suck in air while the tiny piece of chicken is playing hot potato in your mouth. The skin was super crispy and the meat was still juicy. Perfectly fried, not overcooked. 5 stars. Next came the fried sticky rice. It had eggs and diced up chinese sausage. The rice was cooked perfectly, not too dry nor too slimy. It had the wok flavor that I always look for. I would order this again. 5 stars. Next came the stir fry enoki with egg tofu. The dish looked great initially but then, we noticed there werent any enoki. Without it, the dish was still flavorful and tasty. However, you cant really serve a dish without one of the main ingredient in the title. So, 4 stars bc it was missing the enoki. Lastly, the pan fried shrimp roll. It was okay. There werent many shrimps at all. Also, mainly bc the roll was pressed and pan fried, it was somewhat dense and doughy. It wasnt bad but just, meh. Most likely wouldn't order this again. 3 stars. After all of our dishes were served, while we were still eating, the sweet server came back with a steamed minced pork & chives roll for us to sample. *** This is a bar & eatery so they only allow 21+ *** TLDR: food 2/5, service 5/5, vibes 4/5, price 4/5. We came here for an early dinner on Saturday. The restaurant signboard was dark so it wasn't easy to be found. Google Map was very helpful. Very few people in the restaurant so we got seated right away. We got carded even though we didn't order any drinks, as they only serve 21+. We ordered one Roasted Garlic Hand Shredded Chicken手撕鸡 recommended by the staff, one House Stir Fry w/ Enoki Mushroom & Egg Tofu 玉子豆腐煲, and one appetizer - Garlic Onion Jalapeño Fried Tofu 椒盐豆腐 (also recommended by the staff). The Stir Fry w/ Egg Tofu was really good. Bonus point that they managed to take out the seafood and make it vegetarian. It contained lost of sauce so I imagine it would go well with rice. The only surprise was - I thought it would be served in a clay pot, as most egg tofu pots are, but it was served in a plate. I guess that was indicated by its English name. The Roasted Garlic Hand Shredded Chicken, unfortunately, was very disappointing. The staff described it as "very garlicky" and said it was her absolute favorite. Yes, it was very garlicky and I really enjoyed 30% of my bites of it (so if you don't like garlic, avoid this dish). However, the other 70% was awfully SALTY. I'm not even exaggerating - every other bite, I had to stop to spit out the chunky sea salt granule on the chicken. I somehow managed to finish the chicken (I don't even know how/why), but drank 2+ bottles of water. Towards the end, the heavy salt made the chicken taste bitter... I don't like wasting food, so imagine how happy I was when I finally finished the chicken... the process wasn't enjoyable at all. The Jalapeño Fried Tofu, on the other hand, was flavorless. It's called Garlic Onion Jalapeño Fried Tofu, but I could only taste the tofu, which was bland. No flavor of salt, spiciness, garlic, or onion. It's on the other extreme of the hand shredded chicken. We didn't finish it so brought it home. I had to add extra chili powder and salt to finish it. Located in the International District, Gan Bei is a small space that gets crowded during peak hours. Service was a little spotty, with one server our entire time here. We shared the Garlic Wings and I ordered the Mapo Tofu dish and a One Night in Bangkok cocktail. Items came out as they were ready, with the cocktail being first. If you like Thai Iced Teas, you will like the One Night in Bangkok cocktail. The name drew me in, but the ingredients of Thai iced tea, rum and coconut are what made this refreshing. Loved the coconut flavor! The Garlic Wings were better than my entree. Lots of garlic and some spice with the chopped green pepper topping made these garlic wings addicting. Crunchy and juicy all at the same time! The Mapo Tofu dish would've been yummy had it been wayyy less salty. The tofu with minced beef and sauce were all on point; but again, the overwhelmingly salty flavor took away from the tofu and beef, which were the real stars of this dish. Overall, Gan Bei has a lot to offer, but lay off on the salt and let the ingredients of the dishes speak for themselves. I imagine Gan Bei being a popular spot for post-drinks, with its comfort food items of rice dishes with thick and heavy sauces and noods in soups. Came by for lunch with a friend around 11:45am or so, it wasn't busy so we were able to get a table very fast. Forgot what this place used to be but it's a little renovated with some new decor and a updated look. They do have a lunch menu so that's always good. We don't have cooties, so we decided to get a few things and share with each other. We ordered the 3 Mushroom Rice Roll, that was pretty good, seemed like they made it to order as it came out super hot. Good amount of mushrooms and very tasty! My friend ordered a dish off the lunch menu and she got the Ma Po Tofu w/ spicy Beef over rice. It was good as well and had a good amount of spice, freshly cooked and served real hot off the wok. Good version of this dish. Lastly, we ordered the Chicken Congee, it came out hot as hell, super hot (as in temperature), good amount of chicken and comforting bowl of hot goodness in my tummy. All portions were pretty big and we were super full and actually couldn't finish everything. Prices are pretty good. The food was good but the service was slow. Only one gal working the entire room, it took a while to get our food, and they came out all at separate times with big gaps of time in between each dish coming out. Usually we can finish lunch in about 45 mins and can get back to work within an hour, but we were there for about 75 mins, but we had some luck in the transit tunnel so that helped me sneak back to my desk before anyone really noticed or for me to use one of my world class excuses. read more

My partner and I had a great time here and we'll be back. Despite how busy they were, the service was great. They checked up on us regularly. There was a wait but we didn't feel ignored or like us being there was a bother. Even the regulars checked in on us and made sure we were ok. Prices were reasonable and we definitely left full and with leftovers. It's a bar and it does get loud especially with the karaoke. We ordered some garlic jalapeño wings and pan fried rice roll as a late night snack. Food came out quickly, and the wings were steaming hot being freshly fried and coated with the garlic and jalapeños was just delicious. I could have downed another order of 6 wings easily. The pan fried rice roll was a great texture of crispy outside and soft, chewy inside. It's more unique than your standard steam rice rolls. Their "BAR" neon sign was what caught our attention and their food was why we stayed.... for over 5 hours! They have a great selection of beer & liquor. However, their food.... is to die for! I'd call Gan Bei one of Seattle's best kept hidden gems. Although it's technically considered a bar, they serve up some of the best Hong Kong & Cantonese style comfort food I've ever had! I've tried almost every (if not all!) HK style cafe within the Greater Seattle area and Gan Bei definitely takes the cake. We started with the Crispy Dried Shrimp Roll, which was absolutely delicious. I grew up eating cheung fun (wide rice noodles) and was accustomed to the traditional steamed noodles. However, Gan Bei pan fries the noodles to have a crispy exterior. It's served with soy sauce and hoisin sauce for the perfect pairing. For entrees, we chose the Traditional Cured Pork & Chinese Sausage Claypot and Enoki Mushroom & Egg Tofu. The claypots take about 20-30 minutes to prepare, but it's well worth the wait! It's one of my favorite Chinese comfort foods. I'll definitely be back to try some of their other dishes... I hear their wings are a must! We decided to order a cocktail, a eel claypot rice, and a braised lamb brisket. The bartender was also the person who took our order. He was super friendly and made the meal a great experience for us. The drink he crafted was delicious - it was a personalized whiskey concoction. We had low expectations for the food at first, but we ended up loving both dishes. The portions were also quite large - enough for dinner & one extra leftover meal! I came here during happy hour to check it out. It was a Friday evening and I was able to get seated right away for 2 people. The place is small with 3-4 tables in the front and there were a few tables in the back behind the bar. The bar also had a few seats as well. They had $5 well drinks for happy hour. My boyfriend and I ordered the jalapeno fried chicken wings, the sticky fried rice and the pan fried noodle roll with dried shrimp. We enjoyed every dish! Our absolute favorite is their sticky fried rice. I was pleasantly surprised with this dish. I like fried rice but this dish made me love it. The congee's fish was perfectly chewy and salty, but the congee itself didn't really have any taste. The clay pot rice was packed with flavor, but mostly tasted like chinese sausage and coriander rather than eel. The service is great. Although it took quite some time to get the food, the girls were very friendly and nice. When you go inside the restaurant at first, it doesn't seem like an asian restaurant at all and it can be confusing. In my quest to try all restaurants within intl district, I came across this newer smaller restaurant with a small bar. The service was very warm and welcoming and its one of those neighborhood lowkey bars with regulars. The menu is quite massive and the price for portion ratio is above average. I came here with some friends and tried quite a few dishes, and even though some were misses, I still throughly enjoyed the overall experience. Seafood chow mein - 4/5 solid taste but the dish was slightly on the oily side. Salted fish fried rice - 5/5 amazingly done, with the "burnt oil " wok taste while not being overwhelming oily. Thousand year old egg congee - 3/5 kinda bland but acceptable. Especially with other nearby places serving amazing congee (king noodle), I'd skip this here Clay pot eel fried rice - 5/5 some of the best fried rice I've had with a generous portion of eel, but the price of the dish accurately reflects the price of the ingredients Thai chili fish sauce wings & Garlic onion jalapeno wings - got these for hh and the wings are HUGE. Great value for hh and the thai chili fish sauce wings are far superior. It's a wet sauce vs a dry rub for the garlic onion jalapeno. This place was just okay. They turned away one person in our group who brought his son with him because apparently the entire place is a bar even though we were seated at the big table in the back. I got the lemon shredded chicken salad with spicy chili oil. It was not spicy at all and so incredibly salty. But saltier than that was the bartenders attitude. We came to celebrate a birthday with a group of 10. Everyone ordered food and drinks. Bartender was a little gruff the whole time. The bill came and they brought one bill which is fine, I get it, it's a large group. People put down cash and then we put the rest on one card. After we paid we all stood outside to chat for a bit before parting ways. The bartender came outside and interrupted our group to lecture us on how if we pay with a card and tip from the card they get less of the tip. It was super condescending and inappropriate to interrupt our group after we paid to scold us for how we decided to tip. The birthday guy then gave him more cash as a tip to placate him and the bartender took it turned around and left without saying thank you. WTF dude...I will absolutely never return nor recommend this place to anyone. read more
