Gangnam Korean BBQ is a quaint little dining experience tucked in a strip mall. Where it lacks in not being the typical all you can eat place (AYCE), the quality and quantity of packages offered makes up for it. We ordered the Seoul package that came with a variety of meats and at the end our server came and made kimchi fried rice that was delicious. All the meats were fresh and tender. The fried chicken with sweet & sour sauce was really delicious. They also brought plenty of Bon chon items and even refilled them for us. Surroundings and seating was intimate. Alinaa our server was friendly, helpful and checked on us often. It was a delicious meal and I'd highly recommend it as a change of pace to the AYCE places. read more

This was on my list for awhile and we finally got a chance to try it. It's located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. I guess they really improved a lot since the last 8-12 months. I saw some recent newbies complain about the portions being small. I believe they didn't order a lot or they ordered the wrong things. The current portions are not small, they're just mid quality. Btw the banchan is unlimited. We were a group of 3 and got the Taste of Seoul set for 4. It came with fried dumplings, popcorn chicken, beef bulgogi, LA galbi, galbi chicken, pork belly, and kimchi fried rice. Service was good. Our server came back often to check on us. Other than that, this is not a place I would return to. K-bbq in Palatine is way better and authentic. Overall, this is a 2.5-3 at best. -Fried dumplings 2.5 - The fried dumplings tasted store bought, not something that was made from scratch. -popcorn chicken 1 - this is the worst popcorn chicken I've ever tasted. It was dry and there were way too many fried batter pieces. Not enough meat. -beef bulgogi 5 - this was fine. -LA galbi 5 - this and the beef bulgogi are the highlights. -galbi chicken 1 - I think I would take this off the Taste of Seoul set. It's just too dry and bland. I've been to Seoul along with many kbbq places in Illinois, we had mostly beef and pork. -pork belly 3 - not the best quality but better than the chicken. -kimchi fried rice 5 - the rice was good, I liked the crunchy pieces. read more

Disclaimer: I'm a New Yorker who moved to Chicagoland, so I might be a little snooty. Take this with a grain of salt, but I've found that Midwest Yelp reviews tend to run about 1 1/2 stars more generous than I'd rate the same places. Service: Asked for an order of chadol. Response - I'm not sure what that is, I'm not Korean. If I go to IKEA and ask where the POANG chair is, the worker better tell me where it is, not respond by saying, I don't know what that is I don't speak Swedish. If you're a server at a Korean restaurant, you better know the menu items in Korean. Dope. Listen, maybe I'm being harsh but if your website says that one of your goals is to provide an authentic Korean service, live up to it! If I'm about to order Wagyu beef for $120 you better be able to tell me how many ounces or pieces that entails. Dope. Meat quality is on par with similar Korean BBQ places. Seng Galbi, sorry Boneless Short Rib, was as good as JinSoo. But still, I'd prefer places like San Soo Gab San since it's over charcoal, not gas. Kimchi Fried Rice...I'm used to places like Bang Ga Nae where the fried rice at the end is a culmination of your dinner mixed with rice and veggies at the end. This comes as a part of service. Paying $15 for Kimchi Fried Rice which consists of maybe a bowl and a half of rice with butter, Kimchi, bean sprouts and cut up dried seaweed is offensive. I would never order a pre fixe at any restaurant the first time I go, unless they have a Michelin star/s. Management: pretty good for the most part but your decision to put a rookie server on the line tells me either this is your first time managing a restaurant or you don't really care. Summary: We drove 45 minutes each way, spent over $300 on a subpar dining experience. Step up your game or I can see this place lasting maybe a year or two. Gangnam Korean BBQ was definitely a different experience--very much an Americanized take on Korean BBQ. That said, the food was pretty good. My cousin really enjoyed the Japanese Wagyu and Australian Wagyu beef, while the LA galbi (bone-in) was the standout for me. It was almost as good as a home-cooked version, which says a lot. The service was about average, as they didn't check in on us much, and it felt like customer attention could be improved. The atmosphere was also different; having lived in Korea, I found it a bit confusing, but it was still okay overall. All in all, Gangnam Korean BBQ is worth trying, and I highly recommend not missing the bone-in LA galbi. read more

I went for lunch, I felt bad that during my time eating we got changed our waiter/waitress 3 times, they were respectful and amazing working on it, but they were being sent home due to the place not having enough customers coming in (Which is not their fault, it is management's) Food was okay, not the greatest, overpricey the combos and some of it came out frozen, so I can't talk about good quality meat at all and the seafood pancake it was all green onions and barely some pieces of seafood to bite. We have tried a couple Korean BBQs in the past and never been big fans, but the flavors here are amazing! My son has been an extremely picky eater for many years but we have found in the last year and a half he will try new things. And the galbi chicken and bulgogi beef here are some of his favorites now. I enjoy everything from the kimchee fried rice, the seafood pancake, to the short rib. All the spicy accompaniments are wonderful. The staff is great and really helpful. Super clean and fun atmosphere inside. I didn't think I would be here the day after X-mas but when the picky eater wants to eat somewhere, it is my pleasure. Thanks to Vedran for the great service today! read more

I didn't take a lot of pictures because it took FOREVER for everything to come out. I get it that they're adjusting to the opening....but like how long does cutting raw meat really take?? I can understand it taking forever for our bibimbap to come out (which it did btw) but these are the meats.....speaking of bibimbap, our server mixed it for us, but bless his soul he wasn't going to add gochujang or anything in it. LAWDDDD. We had to ask for it and he came back with it. The rice and everything was really mushy too. As for the quality of the meat, they're okay? Nothing crazy special or notable. The portions are small as we ordered the combo for 4 and the combo for 2 bcos we had 6 people and the combo for 4 people seemed like the same amount for 2 people. The dumpling it came with the combo was okay. Tasted different, I wasn't a fan. The corn cheese was also whatever too. Their banchans were okay. The kimchi was decent. They ran out of bean sprouts too. There was a table behind us that came after us, also had 6 or more like is. They got all their food before us, ate, and left before us....sooo I'm not sure if it's the server we got or the service in general. The manager did apologize for the delay and such...but like after being there for 3 hours, he finally came at the end when we were about to pay. read more

Our waitress was wonderful. She's 10 out of 10. Although the restaurant itself and the food is another story. It's super foggy, hot and smelly even with the vents. They even have two plugged in fans on the table. Food tasted ok. A little dull actually. Lots of fat in some options and limited meat. The owner or manager seems to have certain racial preference when he greet the tables. I think I'd rather drive a little further to Arlington Heights for similar restaurants that's all you can eat and costs less. read more

Food was fantastic and fairly priced for how much food and service you receive. Wiktoria was a really kind and attentive server, she made the place feel special. Fun and explorative vibe with the menu that is privy to new enjoyers of KBBQ, but not overly explanatory for frequent buyers. Here's your complaint in English: Among all the meats I've ever had, this was the toughest and most flavorless. The "beef combo" set unexpectedly included chicken, which was served last--by then, the grill was completely burnt, but the staff didn't even bother to change it. We had to grill the chicken on the charred surface. The bibimbap was overly sweet, and the kimchi jjigae tasted like it was made with anchovy broth and rinsed kimchi--something I've never encountered before. The side dishes were scarce, and overall, the food quality was far from what I would expect from a proper Korean-style meal. Frankly, I'd be embarrassed if foreigners thought this was authentic Korean cuisine. read more

Food was alright what was really bad was the service our waitress would rarely check on us and took forever to bring out our food. To the point where our corn cheese was cold by the time we got any meat and they don't care about your grill being completely black they wont bother changing it you need to tell them. There were minor hiccups but that by no means overshadowed the highlights: we ordered from the combo meals (which are the best deal if you want a tasting menu that doesn't leave you hungry!) - the meat was delicious and flavorful, succulent bulgogi, beautifully marbled galbi, pork belly, chicken, soups (more on this later), side dishes, seafood pancake, dumplings and finishing with fried rice prepared in a cast iron skillet tableside. We tried both soups on offer and l absolutely am going to crave the kimchi soup, it's just that good. The order of the dishes, presented had intention behind it and it was apparent in the care and quality that they wanted to take you on a journey. So I'm usually fairly harsh on Korean restaurant because of my high expectations. This restaurant is very new and deserves some grace to work out a few things. Meat was deliciously seasoned and perfectly portioned. Slightly sweet for my taste, but more in that later. Timed pretty well, but restaurant suddenly got busy and some slow moments. Got the combo for 2, and I was stuffed! Ended with kimchi fried rice at the end. Ambience was like a Korean bar atmosphere, but family friendly. Very clean. For the recommended improvements: For this neighborhood, I'm giving it a bit of grace on flavor. Not quite authentically Korean flavors. Previously mentioned review commented on kimchi jjigae being "rinsed kimchi". It's because it's kimchi gook. They are obviously unaware of the difference. The pans need to be changed systematically. They should be changed routinely after the first 2 meats. We had to ask for it, then delayed our meal experience. Biggest disappointment was the kimchi fried rice at the end. I absolutely love when we do this. It reminds me of my childhood. They used the ssamgyupsal oil, which was too much, then threw everything on at the same time. The rice should be day old and was too soggy, and the gochujang was way too sweet. I'm not sure what they did to the gochujang, but absolutely needs real gochujang for this. Otherwise very hopeful for this restaurant and will go again. Good value for the price and that's hard to say for Korean BBQ!!! read more

Was a little disappointed, especially compared to other KBBQ places I've been. Service was incredibly slow even though there were only a handful of other parties there on a Tuesday night. This is my second time here and let me tell you, this place does NOT disappoint! They offer combos and individual items however we went in for the Seoul halal combo due to our dietary restrictions. Everything came out warm and on timely manner. Then came the meats where they were seasoned well with just S/P. Personally to me, I think the brisket sauce makes a KBBQ so I had to mention that as that was a great addition. I really wish they had the rice paper I do hope that comes in the near future. With our combo, it ended with the kimchi rice and our server was AMAZINGLY good on making it for us. Ambiance of this place is great and I love the art; it really gives a vibe because of it! I really enjoy the food here! To me, the quality of meats is unmatched by other previous spots i've been to, and it is much more affordable as well. I found all the meats fresh, juicy, and flavorful-- whether they were marinated or just plain wet aged. I really liked that they have a cast iron grill for their pork belly that they make fried rice on afterwards, it made the pork belly so crispy and the fried rice was delicious as well! Keep in mind that they are still in their soft opening phase, as I have been twice now and noticed a lot of improvement and changed between my first visit and second. This place is great if you love an energetic, upbeat, and casual atmosphere to eat at. The whole experience was great from start to finish. We were immediately seated and had no wait time. The ambiance was nice and I liked how it was not smoky due to cooking meats. Our server who was the young man from Chicago was 10/10 very attentive and went over everything that was on the menu.
