Dave is the man! Our garage door appeared unbalanced and was making an increasingly loud banging noise every time we opened it. Then it started "jumping" and rattling. NOT GOOD. Wondering if the cables needed to be adjusted, I fell down a YouTube rabbit hole and realized I should get a pro to take a look before attempting to mess with it. Also, I wanted to address the issue before the door or motor completely broke/got stuck, creating a bigger headache and more expensive repair. I put out feelers on Yelp and Dave was one of the first to reply. After a quick cruise through previous reviews, I gave him a call. This was on a Friday afternoon, so I expected voicemail but he answered. He was in the middle of a job and politely asked if he could call me back, which he did in good time. Dave attentively listened to my little Tale of Woe and said he'd need to take a closer look himself. Honestly, since this was an assessment/maintenance call not a "Help! It's an emergency: my car is trapped inside my broken garage!!", I was worried it wasn't worth his time. But Dave came by on Monday after his scheduled jobs, as promised. He listened to our concerns and quickly pointed out that our cables had gotten twisted over time, putting strain on the door and opener. He suggested some basic maintenance and voluntarily readjusted the sensors while we were talking. He was happy to schedule another visit to do the work but also said he had everything in his truck to take care of it right away. In less than 30 mins Dave replaced the cables, tightened the chain of the opener and properly lubed all the rollers, joints and spring. He walked us through everything, shared some pointers for basic maintenance and asked if we had any further questions or concerns. All in all, Dave was courteous, knowledgeable, efficient and generally a nice guy. No pressure, no up sell - just excellent service and peace of mind. Hopefully, I never find myself in that "Help! I researched many repair companies because the roller on my garage was off track. Dave was one of the few technicians that did not charge a fee to come out for inspection. The day he was scheduled to arrive, the retainer and the rubber seal on the bottom of my garage fell off completely so I ended up needing a replacement. He came two days later with the new parts and installed it very quickly. Dave even helped with changing the PIN number for my garage and replaced the light bulbs on the box which was really helpful. Called for an inspection, since my garage door motor was not opening the door. Dave responded within 30 minutes and said he would look at the issue the same day. He diagnosed the problem, my motor was not working properly (at least 12 years old and the original from when we purchased the house). Even though Dave was booked for the rest of that day, one of his appointments was delayed and he returned to install a new motor and hardware that afternoon in a few hours. I called Garage Door Basics this morning around 10:30 because my garage door wasn't closing all the way. It would descend halfway then retract again. Dave began troubleshooting over the phone to see if it was something I could fix on my own (i.e., checking the sensor lights) and he then walked me through overriding my faulty remote by using the hard-wired control. Dave gave me an estimated time of arrival between 2 and 3 and arrived by 1:50pm. He immediately solved the problem by wiping accumulated cobweb material from the sensor lenses; I'd brushed away the webs, but hadn't wiped the lenses. I felt like a total idiot. Dave then checked the door to ensure that the springs were holding up and not forcing the motor to work harder than it should. All was good. When I asked how much I owed, Dave said there was no charge. What an amazing surprise! I asked for his card because GDB and Dave will be my go-to garage door repair service. Don't even think of going to anyone else for garage door issues From my first phone call until the job was complete this was one of the most pleasant customer service experiences I've ever had. Dave diagnosed the issue from my description of what was and was not working. We set an appointment date which he confirmed the day before.
