I called Garage Door Basics this morning around 10:30 because my garage door wasn't closing all the way. It would descend halfway then retract again. Dave began troubleshooting over the phone to see if it was something I could fix on my own (i.e., checking the sensor lights) and he then walked me through overriding my faulty remote by using the hard-wired control. Dave gave me an estimated time of arrival between 2 and 3 and arrived by 1:50pm. He immediately solved the problem by wiping accumulated cobweb material from the sensor lenses; I'd brushed away the webs, but hadn't wiped the lenses. I felt like a total idiot. Dave then checked the door to ensure that the springs were holding up and not forcing the motor to work harder than it should. All was good. When I asked how much I owed, Dave said there was no charge. What an amazing surprise! I asked for his card because GDB and Dave will be my go-to garage door repair service. My garage door broke and I could not close it. Although I called late in the afternoon and he had a packed day, he drove all the way to my house that evening after he was done with all his scheduled projects. He came as promised around 8 pm. He told me what the problem was. Unfortunately he did not have the materials to make the repair, but he told me the exact issue and what I needed to do next. He closed to door for me and didn't charge me anything although he went out of his way to help me. Given the current gas price, he just took a loss and gave up his dinner hour. Our garage door stopped working due to a broken spring. We called Dave and he came out the same day to diagnose the problem. I think he typically can fix a door on the spot, but our door is very large and heavy and required a larger spring than he had on hand. Dave ordered the new parts, and returned as soon as they came in to install them. He was good about communicating when he would be there and arrived on time. Once at the house, Dave worked quickly, told me a lot about little tricks to keep the garage door working well, and lubricated the entire thing so it runs much quieter than it did before.
