Only a fool would rate Garlic 'n Lemons worse than a three. I give it a five. The food is fresh. The chicken is tender and moist. The rice is soft and flavorful. Their sauces are unlike anything I've ever tasted. The cooks are friendly. The place is clean. And as if all this wasn't enough, it's reasonable! I got a tip from my Lebanese barber, who told me "it's the best Middle Eastern food in Boston." My expectations were high going in, and I was still blown away. The food is amazing - frankly, better than my sitho (grandmother)'s - the staff is friendly, the space is small but brightly lit and clean, and prices are better than reasonable. They have a selection of Lebanese/Middle Eastern treats and some burgers and whatnot for the less adventurous. Even the plain rice is something special. I have eaten here 5 times in the last two weeks. The food is delicious, very fresh. The staff is very friendly. I've lived in Allston for almost 2 decades and have seen places come and go and I hope this one stays. I'm probably going to get lunch there today! Even though I just had dinner there last night! I have had spicy and regular chicken shwarma, both were great, and I also have had a falafel roll up. The tabouli and greek salad are really fresh and good, and the hummus is delicious. I LOVE this place. After going out for drinks with my sister, a quick stop for food was needed to absorb said booze. I've been dying to try his place for a few months, thank god I did. No one had food left on their plate.The doner was seasoned well. The rice was moist and the sauces were fantastic. Even the hummus was well done and for some reason Boston messes up hummus! Mmmm the spicy chicken shawarma plate is DE-LI-CIOUS! It comes with salad (choice of 3 kinds) + hummus or garlic sauce + spicy potatoes or rice pilaf. I ended up getting the fatoush salad + hummus + and 1/2 spicy potatoes and 1/2 rice pilaf. Don't forget the spicy garlic sauce and the complimentary pita bread at the end when they ring you up! Garlic N Lemons provided food for this year's Boston Film Gala and it was absolutely amazing! Their food was delicious (some of the best falafels I have had in the U.S.); it was fresh, flavorful and had time invested into it. They were absolutely wonderful to work with for our event as well and their delivery person was on-time, polite and immensely helpful. They are a fantastic member of the Allston community and I highly recommend eating at their location or having them cater for any of your events. This is a gem of a place on Harvard between Comm Ave and Brighton. Nothing fancy, but the shawarma plates are huge on the portions and quite tasty! A great go-to place when you are very hungry and/or want a solid amount of left overs for lunch or dinner for the next day. The seating is nothing to speak of, so I tend to do take-out...With that caveat it is a totally solid choice for quick dinner when you don't feel like cooking or eating McDonalds. read more

great food. they have a big enough variety of dishes on their menu to satisfy multiple pallets. workers are nice and helpful EXCEPT the young black lady working the register who is NOT friendly and just gives you an attitude STARE when you walk in. she needs to go (if the managers are reading this train her or ditch her!). the space is on the smaller side so large groups will be tough. it's an older spot and they try to keep it clean but they can do a better job at that. overall i would recommend it read more

HORRIBLE service. I don't usually care for service and am all about the food but just because we walk in 15 minutes prior to closing doesn't mean a customer should get angry looks, your meal packed in a to-go container when you're clearly eating in, only one type of meat made available to you, no sauce added to the plate entree, AC turned off in spite of sweltering temperatures, all the chairs raised up on the tables around you, etc. The people behind the counter can't even speak English and were rude beyond belief. To add insult to injury, the chicken was incredibly dry and with the skimpy sauce she applied only after I had asked, the food was vey disappointing. With the combination of the dry chicken, room-temperature rice, and hummus, it all tasted like one bland, homogenous paste. It was an incredibly unnecessarily awkward experience. I have never experienced a restaurant that was so unhappy to have one's patronage. Maybe they think they have enough customers to not feel obligated to treat customers with common courtesy? I hope I don't get indigestion after scarfing down my food in order to leave the place ASAP. I will most certainly not be back. read more

It's my favorite shawarma place in Boston area. Very generous and tasty portion. The order usually comes with the side and a drink at the good price. The only thing that I don't like that they are not taking small orders over the phone. You have to go there, place an order and wait for it. The waiting time is usually not too bad. very disappointing food - I have taken a combo platter with tabbouleh and Baba Ghannouj and Hummus and rice the beef and chicken was cold the heat it up to me on the microwave - tabbouleh no taste - the bread is the pita bread you find in grocery store the rice is the same ones as the box one that you put in the microwave - the falafel has not taste - I do not recommend this restaurant it is not middle eastern - it simply had no taste - very disappointing read more

Garlic n Lemons definitely wins my vote for best Allston addition in 2010. I'm vegetarian and love the variety and price of their veggie selections (falafel, greek salad, humus, baba ghanoush, tabouli + more) ! The staff members are always super helpful and nice - I've seen them talk confused first timers through the whole menu and the place is always bright and sparkly clean (unheard of in Allston). I went in today and noticed some new faces so it looks like they're really listening to customer complaints regarding wait times AND they're giving away coupons for free food with purchases right now to thank customers for coming in which is just a genuinely nice thing for such a popular restaurant to do. My bag had a flier for free baklava (not buy a meal next time and get this free, just free free!) - So, I'd definitely recommend checking them out soon if you haven't already. read more

Nice spot to get your middle eastern kick. It is a quick service place, so you won't wait long and there are a few tables squeezed in. The dining area is a little hot in the summer, but good enough for a quick meal. The spicy chicken is tasty, and I would recommend the plate vs the wrap because you get a ton more food. The wraps are fine if you aren't going to get a side and want a moderate portion. Out of the sides I sampled, the tabbouleh seemed to be the most delicious - but everything we had was good and tasted fresh. read more

The spicy chicken shawarma plate is one of the best I have had in Boston. Chicken is super flavorful and not dried out like you can sometimes get at other places. The meal also comes with your choice of sides but I always get tabbouleh, rice pilaf, hummus, garlic aioli, and the fatoush. The best part is the spicy garlic sauce which you can not have too much of. Its a great value for a ton of food and every time I go to Garlic 'n Lemons its consistently good, always super filling and packed with a ton of flavor! Don't get me wrong, the food is AMAZING... BUT the service really really makes me not want to go back. I was very overcharged for my food because of a mistake on the employees behalf and when I brought it to the cashiers attention she wouldn't fix it, i told her what i ordered and even she acknowledged the other employees mistake but she pretty much just shrugged her shoulders and told me to just deal with it. She kept walking away and pretended like she didn't understand what I was saying even though we were JUST having a conversation. It may not seem like a lot of money but being overcharged $5 for your meal as a college student when you are starving and walked in the cold to get there is just infuriating. I happened across this restaurant based on word of mouth from friends. I am glad I did because it is a Yummie authentic take on fast Arab food. Especially compared to Dearborn and my adventures in the middle east this place is pretty good. I went with a group and we ordered several items. I tried a sample of some dessert that had shredded filo and rose water and it blew my mind. SO DELICIOUS. I couldn't resist the Greek salad, it's seriously the best I've ever eaten. The food is very good. First time I ever had Mediterranean was here. I have been going to this location for over 2 years now. The last four times though within the last 3 months has been a real bummer. You will go in and ask for whats on the menu only to find out they do not have it. I am not talking just little things but Main things everyone buys like Chicken and this is around Dinner time 4:30-5:30 pm. Not a lot of parking so you have to walk quite a distance sometimes. Anyhow, you'll ask and they are usually nice when they have things but when they are out of an ingredient, Potatoes, chicken what have you they will give off sighs and say come back in a few hours or they dont have anymore? Really? I am already here why don't you have main dinner courses ready? Even the guy behind me recently asked for something and the woman at the counter told him "we are out", the man replied "when will you have more", the woman says " I maybe later maybe not "....Once went in and asked for Potatoes and some young guy just yelled out " I am not making anymore! " Ok, enough.. just stop.. This has been four times in a row. This is like going to mcdonalds and they have no hamburgers every time you walk in. Garlic n Lemons main dish is Chicken Shwarma. You should always have food ready around 5 pm, owning a restaurant its not rocket science. Plus if you are out of food dont be irritated that I asked you for something Clearly on your menu! I really loved this place for awhile but if you don't have whats on the menu so often, why even bother. I will retry them again in a year or so. read more
