Lobster roll. $30 for that? Got a ton better one on the MS Mount Washington for $15. This one was miserable. Not dressed at all, meat was cold and bun was not crispy. Fries were pathetic. Only positive was they took it off the bill after I sent it back with one bite gone. (My wife said it was the first time she has seen me send back food and that is over 15 years.) She disappeared after our soup and salad was served. Never saw her again until she cleared our dinner plates and dropped the check. Paid $20 for a whistle pig old fashion and $40 for an over cooked filet when we ordered rare and got medium ( would've given them a chance to make it right, but again, our server never asked us how our meal was) Maybe your cooks should use thermometers. Attention to detail was very lacking! My wife and I have a combined restaurant experience of 40 years. If you look at my review history, you will see very few poor reviews. I usually give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt and say nothing if I encounter a problem. This visit is an exception. As you can see from my posted photo, Garwoods has a beautiful location on the lake. My meal at my previous visit was OK so I was looking forward to this visit. One special this day was blackened monkfish tacos. This sounded great and I looked forward to trying them. I took the first bite and ended up with a mouthful of a blubbery, fatty goo. I spit it out and could not even cut it with a serrated knife. The taco was filled with this nastiness. It turns out that in order to prepare monkfish, the cook needs to remove the inedible membrane from the fillet before cooking. The cook did not do that for my tacos or my wife's tacos. It was pretty disgusting. I am a resonable guy so I quietly let our server know what had happened. The waitress spoke to the manager, but the manager did not come to out table. The manager's way of addressing the problem was to take 1/2 off one of the orders of tacos. Considering the magnitude of the mistake, I was very dissapointed. It was one of the worst kitchen mistakes that I have ever experienced and the Manager would not even make an appearance? i am still pretty shocked. Mistakes are one thing - everyone makes them. Blowing off the customer is another matter. We tipped the waitress well - it was not her fault. This is no way to run a restaurant. read more

A group of us visited this restaurant on a Saturday night recently and while the food/ views of the lake were good, the service was pretty terrible. When we arrived, we knew that there would most likely be a wait for outside seating given that it was a weekend and peak season. We were told the wait for outdoor seating was 40 minutes and we headed to the bar to wait for our table. There was only one seat available at the bar, so one of our group sat down and the rest of us planned to stand and grab a drink. When we went to order drinks, the bartender told us that we could not stand at the bar because it was against their insurance policy...which seemed completely unfathomable. I could understand this if the place was at capacity (it was not) or if the bar was 2-3 people deep waiting for drinks (it wasn't). I totally understand capacity issues in a restaurant, but never had I heard of not being able to stand at a bar while waiting for a table. This was a red flag for us but given that it was late and our names were in, we went elsewhere to wait for the table. When we returned to Garwood's for dinner a while later, we gave our name to the hostess and she escorted us to our INDOOR table. Now, we specifically asked for outdoor seating when we arrived and proceeded to wait 40 minutes for that seating as opposed to the 20-minute wait for indoor seating. When we clarified with the hostess, she completely blamed one of us in our group, claiming that we had asked for "first available" seating. This never happened and the fact that she was blaming the customer was a huge issue for us. After a few minutes, she rudely let us know that we would have to wait yet another 20 minutes for outdoor seating since we didn't clarify with her at the beginning. The second time around, we were able to all get seats at the bar and we waited for our table. When we finally sat down to eat, all of the other tables were finishing up and paying their bills. While we were waiting for our food, waitresses were busy rushing around and starting closing procedures. Now granted, we were sat close to closing time, but to start shutting down the patio while our group and another group were still waiting for food doesn't exactly scream "welcoming". Overall, I would skip this place just based on the service we received. We never received an apology for the seating mixup or the extra wait time and the food wasn't good enough to warrant a return trip. read more

Just ok. Nothing bad, nothing great. Went on a Saturday in April around lunchtime. He waitress was very busy, I think there were only 2 covering the whole dining room. She apologized for taking so long to get to us, and we could see they were short staffed. I ordered chowder and salad with salmon. My husband had a steak and cheese with a side of veggies. In addition, she never got me a straw I asked nor refilled my water glass. In regards to the meal, ordered the penne pasta with chicken but the chicken was lacking - maybe a total of 2 ounces. The dish tasted okay. Ordered the 6 jumbo shrimp. They were large, not jumbo. The cost was exorbitant - $17.94. I can buy 2 pounds of the same size shrimp for $16.00 at the market. From spiders in our salad to 'sour cod' on our tiny fisherman's 'platter' .... the size of the spinnaker pasta (now called pesto pasta with chicken) was so small I wouldn't even consider it a kids portion. One chicken tender cut up and a handful of penne. After pointing out the spider and microscopic portions they sent out a few more shrimp and fries. We still paid for our spider salad. read more

Co-workers who ordered the fish sandwich and salads, all thought it was great. I had the burger, cooked medium, and it turned out to just be your average burger. Nothing special, and for 7.99, I guess I can't complain. My only worry is that, I had mad stomach problems post-2.5 hours from this place. I mean the full blown, food poisoning type of condition. Garwoods is a very handsome venue on lake Winni, complete with lake views, outdoor seating, and a fresh coat of paint. The waitress was very sweet, the atmosphere was professional and welcoming. And the food, though not bad by any means, was somewhat of an underperformance. I had an enjoyable haddock sandwich on a challah [or brioche if you're a gentile] roll, served with a side of mediocre fries. I had a local beer which came from nearby North Conway. The prices were reasonable - $12 for the sandwich and fries. But it was an $8-$10 per dish food experience, frankly. Lipstick on a pig, if you will. It would almost be better if Garwoods were more of a dive, in which case the food would be on par with the atmosphere, and the menu prices would be cheaper as there'd be no need to invest in a remodeling. It's Wolfeboro, New Hampshire though. So you gotta cut 'em a little slack. It's a pretty good place overall. read more

So a group of us (8 to be exact) were staying in New Durham NH for the weekend. We decided to go to Garwoods as we all liked the menu online and the selections they had. When we arrived for our reservation at 5:30 we were told that the table was not ready..... we waited When we arrived at our table service was slow unfortunately, but I didn't penalize the waitress as the place was hopping!!! More wait staff maybe on a weekend?? When we questioned why the surf and turf wasn't listed as a meal option we were told that the menu online was outdated..... When the meal arrived it was only LUKE WARM... I opted not to send it back as I wanted to dine with the group. However, the kicker was when we received the bill. The oysters on the menu were advertised at $1.00 each. When we received the bill we were charged $2.99 each... We questioned the charge and a manager/owner came to the table and stated the best they could do was $2.00 each but nothing more, rather rudely too I might add...... Really? YOUR clerical error fell on us???? bait and switch?? Unfortunately it wasn't the experience that our group was hoping for. However, the rest of our stay in the area was great..... Maybe they are in the midst of changing a few things, but I think we will pursue other options when we are in the area again..... read more

Maybe it was the beginning of the summer and the staff wasn't up to par, but we weren't impressed. Entrees were overpriced (which is standard for the town) and of poor quality; bland and uneventful. Our waitress took our lunch order and never once checked on us. A different girl delivered our entrees thirty to forty minutes later, an unreasonable wait for a near-empty restaurant. After cleaning our plates, it was another twenty minutes before the first waitress checked to see if we wanted desert. We won't be going back soon. read more

Garwoods is one of the nicer looking restaurants on Lake Winnipesaukee. Unfortunately, its looks are deceiving. I really wanted to like this place, but the food just wan't good. We started with the Soy Coconut Chicken wings. Sounds yummy, huh. The wings had a strange tasting sauce on them. If there was coconut in there, I couldn't detect it. For dinner I had the Baked Five Cheese Macaroni with parmesan, Asiago, cheddar, Monterey jack and goat cheese. I thought this would be amazing. It's hard to believe, but it lacked flavor. I don't know how they managed to make such an unbelievable sounding dish taste so bland. My husband has the sesame encrusted tuna. The presentation was beautiful and the tuna itself was good, but the sauces had too much mayo, so that's all they tasted like. I think Garwoods has amazing potential. The atmosphere is great and they have an excellent location with outdoor seating on the lake. The service was good and the prices are fair (for good food). They can probably get away with mediocre food for quite some time because they are smack dab in the middle of downtown Wolfboro and have tons of tourists walking by that will visit them because the restaurant looks nice. But, they shouldn't settle for mediocre food. They can do much, much better and I really hope they will! read more

My family and I went in for drinks and appetizers. I ordered a Frozen Martguerita and they ordered beers. For appetizers, we ordered calamari and the "flat-bread of the day" (shrimp, mozzarella, and tomatoes). The bill totaled $63.00. My Martguerita was terrible. I had my daughter, who is a trained bartender, take a sip to make sure I wasn't being too harsh - she agreed. Since the waitress was busy, I went straight to the bar and asked the bartender to please make another Martguerita but this time not frozen. She replied "Are you sure you are going to like it. I don't want to waste liquor." Our appetizers were mediocre. The calamari was tasteless and soggy. The Flat-bread appetizer @12.99 was a flat-bread cut into six servings. Each serving had one miniature shrimp (previously frozen) with a nickel sized piece of mozzarella, and tiny pieces of tomato. We were disappointed to say the least. More importantly, we felt we were robbed. The one star is for the waitress who was very sweet and the view. We will not return. read more

I have been to Garwoods several times now. I love this location because the view is incredible at any time of year. The tables that are right by the window overlooking the lake are worth the visit alone. So, to start, I will say that their wine list is huge. It's nice but definitely on the expensive side (which, for a restaurant on the lake in downtown Wolfeboro isn't terribly surprising). I find the menu to be a bit underwhelming. I generally enjoy when a restaurant has a small menu to choose from because it shows quality and care in the food. However, this menu feels a bit "bland" to me. Their appetizers seem cheap. My first visit, they had oysters in the half shell which were PHENOMENAL. They are no longer there (so if you go and they have the oysters, GET THEM). Everything is overpriced for what it is with the food. The service is average, but nothing spectacular. Every time I have been to Garwoods, the server seems a bit like they could care less. They don't really make you feel welcome (which, to me, is a huge key in a restaurant). read more

Lucky enough to sit on the deck on a delightful evening in late July - beautiful view of the lake, and with only about 6-8 tables on the deck, this was a perfect place for conversation (no blaring music, no clanking dishes!) I had one of the daily specials - potato gnocchi with grilled chicken & sun-dried tomatoes, tossed in pesto and topped with asiago cheese. The portion was very large and delicious! My daughter had a risotto dish from the regular menu that was equally good; my other daughter had the spinach salad from the menu - she loved their preparation with goat cheese and dried blueberries. At the end we got, I think the name was, coffee pudding. It was awesome! The only issue we had was the food came in a little late. And the waitress told us she'd bring bread for us, but then forgot. This is one of our 'go to' restaurants when we are in Wolfboro. The food is usually very good. However, this last week my top sirloin was not so good. I brought it to the attention of the staff and they immediately attempted to rectify it. I declined another entree so they took the item off the bill. Drinks were good and my wife's clams and pasta dish was excellent. This is a great restaurant that is well worth trying. We have been to Garwoods several times before and this was our first time eating out since Covid. We sat outside and ordered the lobster roll and the fully belly fried clams. They both came with home made chips. Have to say the food was ok except the chips. They were horrible. Looked like they were cooked in the early morning so tasted stale and the oil they were fried in tasted rancid. The service was also lacking. Our waitstaff was totally indifferent to us, not even looking at us and just passing things off to us as if no interest and an after thought. Not to mention we waited 15 minutes just for a drink. The prices were extremely high for mediocre everything. But I guess they need to compensate the expense for their new deck which looked great! read more

We sat at the bar, had a couple pints and some nibbles, and everything was great.The bartender, Jess, was very nice and talkative, the bill was super reasonable. Sarah went above and beyond to ensure that our drinks were ice cold and delicious, and our food, which she recommended, was perfect and came out in a timely manner! This is definitely a great place to sit by the lake and enjoy a relaxing afternoon/evening. It is great in the summer because you can sit outside on the deck and soak up some sun. Poor service and overcharge on my credit card. On 6/12/19, my wife and i were on an trip celebrating our anniversary, and we stopped at Garwoods for dinner. As we waited for our table, we ordered drinks at the bar, and let the bartender know of our special occasion, and left her a good tip for her service. As it turns out, the same bartender was our waitstaff when our table opened. Through the dinner, we were basically neglected. We waited 20 minutes from the time we finished our apps to the entry being service. This included no check-ins, no water, no refills on our drinks. no bread, etc. When the food was served, we had no eating utensils, and had to flag down another waitstaff to get those. We tried several times to make eye contact with our bartender/waitstaff, to no avail. The restaurant was not busy; several tables were vacant. Other tables with other waitstaff appeared to be receiving good service. Given this, we gave a 10% tip on the bill---a first time event for me--and I spoke with the manager about our concerns. She agreed that the service should have been better, and stated she would speak with the staff about this. When I reviewed my credit card statement, the 6/12 charge for Garwoods was higher than my receipt reflected. The overcharge, in essence, resulted in a 16% tip for that waitstaff. My handwriting and total on my receipt were clear. So, I advise that if you choose to dine at Garwoods, be prepared for poor service, save your receipt if you charge your bill, and check your statement. read more

The views here are great! Our waitress, Sarah (I believe) was fantastic and right on top of our orders and drink refills. As for the food that's a different story. I ordered the Squash Ravioli salad and a different dressing on the side. The raviolis were a bit dry and undercooked. My plate was covered in arugula and a few cashews and cheese. My friend ordered the clams and linguine. She said the clams were good, but they still had some sand in them. For the price you are going to charge for a dish like this I would expect the seafood to be flawless! I would go back, I would just order something different. I wish they had more chicken dishes and it seemed it was mostly seafood and beef. And the service was top notch! read more
