this place is awesome. i wasn't having a good time finding a mechanic to do an overhaul brake job on my 66 mustang, including a front brake conversion and a used rear axle swap. Well, not a lot to say here. I have seen this place off the freeway for a while. I have a classic car. It needs a Radiator, which I have already purchased. I decided to see what they would charge to install it. I can install it myself but sometimes I don't have the time therefore I thought I'd check this place out as it is not too far from me. A place to call and nobody answered which is understandable they're all out there wrench it on cars. However I left a detailed voice message and my phone number and never received a phone call back. I was patient as I did not know if they were open on Saturday or Sunday and I didn't bother to look so I assumed I would just get a phone call on Monday or Tuesday still no phone call. it's now the weekend, so I'm probably just going to get my wrenches out and put it in myself depending on whether it rains or not today . read more

Jason and his team went above and beyond building my dream car. Took a poor investment on my part and transformed it into a modern sports car. Doesn't drive like a restoration. It drives, handles, sounds and smells like a brand new sports car. I couldn't imagine a better team or company to build my childhood dream car for the price they did! Maybe you should understand how a business works. Not everyone can pay for their dreams right away. Not every company ships the correct parts on time. They can allow the customer to get their money together while not stopping work on others that can afford their build faster. I recently bought a 68 Mustang GT from out of state. My mistake was not doing an onsite review of the car before purchase. When I received the car there were a number of unexpected leaks. I took the 68 to my normal mechanic, who has worked on my cars for almost 20 years. My old mechanic was great with newer cars but seemed lost when it came to a car without a computer and OBD monitor. I decided to locate a local team with experience on older cars. After a lot of research I chose GearHead who only works on cars of the pre-smog era. When I first drove into the Gearhead parking lot it felt like I was at a car show. Chevy, Ford and Dodge were all proudly represented. There were so many to look at that I had to snap some pics to show friends. Gearhead took care of all the leaks very quickly and I learned the out-of-state builder should have never attempted an engine build since the out-of-state-builder messed up things that were from engine-building 101 ;-) With my first experience with Gearhead ending so well I decided to use them for a cooling system upgrade. Jason provided very good straight-talk advice so I dumped my existing aluminum radiator for a larger one with electric fans. Jason also recommended a cooler thermostat from stock 195 degree since I live in CA. I am now running a 160 degree thermostat on my 390 FE engine and my car is staying cool even in the hot summer weather. Come early next year I am doing aluminum heads, full length headers, EFI and coil over front suspension upgrades. I will be working with Jason on these as well. The coil over suspension upgrade will have the added benefit of giving me ease of access to the spark plugs. if you have ever owned a big block Mustang you know exactly what I mean. While I will admit Gearhead can be a little difficult to contact, at times, it is a small price to pay to work with a team of classic car artists. The shop does poor quality of work. Watch what they are doing as they do not listen to the customers and will do things differently then instructed. To be honest you are better off if you go to a different shop. Gearheads has way to many cars in the shop and too few mechanics to do the work. This causes them to neglect your car for months even years as they did with mine. And when they do work on your car the work is poor. In fact I am still in the process of correcting their poor work as they broke things and in many cases they did not fix what they agreed to. Pretty sad when you have to fix what they said they fixed but they did not. I strongly suggest picking a different shop. read more

Went to Gearhead for some minor tweaks to my 69 Camaro. Needless to say a year later and many more mods to the car and I have the car of my dreams. I have to say it is my personal best due to the collaboration with Jason the owner. The car has won best in show and other awards. The car will also be featured in Chevy Hi Performance magazine. This was not my intent in doing this build. I just wanted a good car to enjoy on a regular basis. I did not want a show car. My point is Gearhead just does that nice of a job. I have been taking BAE BEE (my Chevelle) to Gearhead from the very inception of Gearhead Garage several years ago. Back in the old days they weren't perfect, but they always took the car back and made every effort to get it right. Over the years, I witness them establishing themselves in the "performance car world," becoming TV stars on the Speed Channel, and more importantly, growing into a formidable restoration and car performance center who are experts in everything they do. Even the things they send out of their shop, are sent to other extremely competent gear heads. I recently I recently "took the plunge" and had a total rebuild of my Chevelle's 454 and we threw-in few upgrade to it as well. All I can say it is a whole different engine. Runs much smoother and cooler and the power is rather impressive. I have to say that damn thing "run like a Swiss Watch." Also, I did the Vintage Air conversion and installed these very trippy LED headlights. Rest assured, when you get your car back from these guys whatever you had them do is "Dialed-in"!!! One must note, with older cars there are many concurrent things that need work, due to economics, you may say I don't need to fixed that right now or I know someone else who can do that a whole lot cheaper!!! Usually whenever I did that, I got a funky repair job by someone who could "do the talk, but couldn't do the walk." So that "funky" repair job or existing condition would eventually bug me enough to where, on several occasions, I went running back to Jason and wound up having to say, "Ok, this has bugged me long enough or this other shop "F.... it up, could you guys please Fix It!!!!" read more

Saw their website and it was posted that a complete restoration may take as long as a year. Took my car in Sept 2012. Sept 2015 got my car back at cost of $63k. Car still needed work as paint job has flaws, hood not aligned properly, front suspension flawed, as they were still waiting on part for suspension. Sept 2016 I called Jason to remind him of needed follow-up work. Jason said "give me a couple of weeks to set things up and I'll call you". It is now end of January 2017, and I'm still waiting for Jason's call back. Seems to me that Gearhead is more interested in generating new business than taking care of customers they have. Not a place I would recommend. I took my Challenger in to have the transmission replaced and found out when I got home that some of the steering linkage was not fastened properly. They did some engine work as well and needed to take out the oil pan. This procedure requires removing the center link of the steering linkage. This lack of attention to detail could have cost me my life had I not noticed this. I could have lost control of my car had the linkage come apart while driving it. read more

I was going to just move on from me and Gearhead's horrible business relationship but I see that they have done the same thing they did to me, to others. Faulty work, refusal or unable to fix after multiple efforts to get them to do so. Getting the run around. I spent over 20k with them and they still gave me the run around and never fixed things related to the jobs I paid them for as well as them breaking things (mainly electrical related) that were not related to the jobs I paid them for. Out of frustration I just ended the relationship with them even though there were outstanding issues. Frankly I probably should have sued them but I gave them a pass. I've spent thousands since our relationship has ended just to get my car sound. The other shops have been able to diagnose and fix the issues without a problem. Terrible craftsmanship and customer service. And then they tell me that their work isn't warrantied and that any fixes they do to their own work is a favor to me. I wish em the best but they did me wrong and they need to clean up the way they do business. Sounds like multiple people have to take their cars back. I had a engine and transmission put in amongst other things... They didn't even put 5 miles of testing on them and called me to pick it up. The car ran bogged down, was smoking and took a lot to get started, transition leaked... AKA wasn't tested and adjusted. This was one of many issues. read more

I have owned my 69 Camaro since 2005 and have had 2 engines and replace transmission at other shops and the car never performed as I thought it should. I talked to Gearhead Garage at the Goodguys car show and they suggested a 383 Blueprint and convert from automatic to a Tremec 5 speed. I had never been happy with the performance and decided to trust the suggestion they gave. Jason the owner was easy to work with . I was impressed with the engine and tranny swap looks great. I was informed I needed to have vehicle rewired and I agreed. I went there and Jason took me for a test drive and man I was impressed my Camaro never performed at this level . They fixed several things other shops did that were not correct, my car is now everything I wanted and never got from other shops. I highly recommend you call and talk to Jason before trusting your classic car elsewhere.
