Sunday lunch Service was on it but the kitchen pumped out the sushi and soup before the appetizer. No biggie. I got a rainbow roll and there was salmon shrimp and one type of whitefish. Other places usually give five 5 different fish and this place put avocado on top in between each species. Too add, the fish portions on top were skimpy. Really skimpy, like 1/2 by 1/2 inch and super thin. Flavor was okay but not 4.8 stars worth. Super disappointed. Much better other places. read more

Been to this place a few times now but may never return. We ordered 2 orders of vegetable noodles and 6 sushi rolls to go. Food was ready on time. As I was finishing my noodles I had a hard piece of something in my mouth full of noodles. Felt like I almost broke a tooth. Turns out it was a black hard piece of plastic. See pic. Our favorite local spot for dinner with family or with guests who visit. Warm and friendly owners who always make the experience feel welcoming and joyful. Food made with love and skill. All the specialty Sushi rolls, the Spicy Dumplings, and the soup dumplings are our family favorites. We've tried most of the menu and it's all fantastic. I recommend sitting on the patio with a group of friends, ordering a bunch of items to share family style and a bottle of pear wine or sake, and enjoy a meal while the kids play games in the courtyard area. For little ones the chicken fried rice is perfectly executed, fresh with veggies and real ingredients, and not overly seasoned or doused in too much soy sauce. Pretty much straight down the middle. Nothing great, only one bad thing, but since there isn't much competition for Gen Sushi in Battle Ground so if you don't want to drive to Vancouver, then Gen Sushi is ok. Portions are pretty good size but the flavors were pretty close to a lower priced Vegas buffet. First few bites I was pretty excited. After that it was just 'eh' over and over. Kind of sad because most of the food looked so great. They have great dishes and bowls, love the the water bottle and glasses. Cute little bowls for your soy for your sushi. It was ok as I was hungry and there isn't really sushi in the area, but if you just want Asian flavors you have better options. If there was more competition and they felt pressure I bet they would work their food over. The wait staff did ask for our input, even though we still paid for one dish that we just could not eat but I chalk that one up to us. The environment though is pretty nice and a great little outdoor area that I believe is new. They are friendly there as well and dining inside is very cozy as it is pretty small inside but I like the layout. You can see part of the area where food is being prepped and the area and restaurant was nice and clean. They just need a bit more polish on their food. Everything else though is great. read more

Sushi is absolutely excellent. Fairly standard menu with few different option so you'll be able to get your favorite nigiri or rolls. Everyone working there was very nice and the food came quickly. It's decorated very cutely. The bathroom was very clean and it's a single stall, gender neutral bathroom. I highly recommend! They also gave us complementary watermelon slices which was very nice. Battle Ground, WA is exploding. The free land is quickly becoming apartments and houses. For awhile, this area has not had an excellent sushi joint. Now it does. Gen Sushi is inconspicuously tucked into the corner of a small, strip mall in front of the Fred Meyer parking lot. If you don't knows it's there, you could easily miss it. The restaurant is in the spot that at least 3 other joints were in and couldn't survive - and COVID had nothing to do with their closings. Our son, Michael and I checked it out. The owner is from a family of chefs in Asian cooking. He might well be the one to win in this corner. The sushi is made-to-order fresh, and even when busy, the food does not take long. We've tried several rolls, sashimi, nigiri, special dishes, and the miso. All of it was crispy where it should be, silky where it should be, and unctuous where you want it. We often order Ikura - this is spoonful of about pea sized fish eggs, roe. The little bubbles appear to hold a glowing, orange sunset in them. They perch on sushi rice, wrapped in nori. They do not need sauce enhancement, for when you bite the sweetness of the rice, the sea flavor of the nori, and the pop and then salty goodness, you understand what umami really means. Gen uses top notch Ikura - not all sushi joints do. The owner is customer-experience focused and genuinely enjoys meeting people and serving them great sushi. I think he's 'cornered' the market here Warning: this place has already gained a substantial clientele, so plan off rush times. read more
