Really loved this place. Came for lunch here while in Hawaii. Quick service. We sat there waiting for the waitress to come takeout order until we realized we order from a tablet on the counter. It's pretty cool. You have to wait for your order to fly out on a little car. It's pretty fun. We had the stuffed mushrooms, fried squid and like 4 sushi rolls. Was so delicious. Not too pricey. This was the worst dining experience I had at the windward city location. I came in at about 8:45ish and was told that they were doing last call in 4 minutes. So we sat down order all our food. While we were eating they asked if we was done with our wasabi and shoyu. Also did not refill our waters. A few minutes later they shut off some of the dining lights and started moping the floors in front of our table. They after we got our food they dropped our check on the table. I used to live in Japan and the "sushi-go-round" was my favorite spot to hit. As expected, this is not quite the same. Most of the options include fake crab and are variations of the California roll. It also didn't strike me as being overly clean inside. Overall though it's inexpensive and the food tastes good, cool place to stop to do something different read more

Never been to this location before so we wanted to give it a try. Upon entering it smelled funky but we were starving and had been seated right away. They have the bullet train so you can just place your order on the iPad. I usually go to the one in Kapolei (which doesn't have the train). The portion sizes here seem smaller, but the food was good. One star for the manager/supervisor on Feb 6. We've been coming here for years. We ordered mochi ice cream at the end of of our meal and one of them immediately slid off the plate onto the floor. A server said he'd get us another and didn't come back. Another server eventually asked us if we "still" wanted our replacement mochi because the manager wouldn't allow it and said we have to pay for it. Really?! People may complain about this local cheap sushi chain, but every time I'm there, there's a huge crowd of people. Newly renovated with the latest magnetic serving trays and tablet ordering menus, it's a fun place that the kids really enjoy. As long as you keep an eye on the tab (meaning stick to the $1.65-2.40 yellow and green plates with only limited ordering of the red and black $3-5 plates), you can probably get away with $10 per head max for light to normal appetites. Beyond that, the portions are small, the quality of the food is on the cheap-side, but the taste is ok and I've never really had a problem with the food, staff, or service. read more

I always take sushi eaters' reviews of the food with a grain of salt because sushi snobs seem to be the toughest customers on the planet to please. I have youngish kids and the basics work great for us. Crab, CA roll, ahi, etc. The food was just fine and the kids loved the race car delivery (which was relatively prompt). The wait staff, however, was phenomenal. We had Brooke and Laura helping us and both were happy to explain things to us and check in with us on a regular basis. The water and tea essentially never got below 1/2 full and both waitresses interacted with the kids and complimented their (strangely) good behavior. The customer service at the Kaneohe establishment has really improved over the years. After not receiving an order after 30 minutes we finally approached a waiter named Kayce. Not only did he lighten the situation with humor and a smile but, he was also generous enough along with his Co-worker Kaitlyn to make a take home pack of our order along with a side of fries for free. We really appreciated their friendly humor and positive attitude. Went there with my husband and two kids and was excited to try out the bullet express, but was very disappointed. First off, the sushi was not freshly made. We ordered the oshinko maki and when we got it, it was very cold and the rice was hard. It was as if they had made a bulk amount in the morning and put it in the fridge. We also ordered an udon since it was freeeezing in the restaurant. But again it wasn't fresh, cause the soup wasn't even hot. The service was crap too. I guess they were still celebrating the reopening because they were giving out balloons. So when we sat down, I assumed that my kids would get a balloon each. But after quite some time, nothing. And my 2 year old is very obsessed with balloons. So I flagged a waitress over and asked if my kids can get a balloon. And her response was, "Now? You want the balloons now?" I sat there in shock for a few minutes and then sarcastically told her, "I guess not." Then she said that they're only giving balloons upon exit for safety. However the kids at table near us had several balloons. As a server, she needs to talk to customers with a little more respect. This is the absolute worst place to get sushi or any kind of service. I waited 45 mins to get in (was with 4 others) and once we were finally seated, the waitress forgot to put in my order. Everyone else got food except me. I was beyond frustrated and opted just to leave. On my way out I asked to speak to the manager just to let him know what was going on and he was COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. He actually blamed the poor service on the renovation. I repeadelty asked him how could the two be related, and he kept repeating about the upcoming renovation and dismissed my concerns completely. I will never go back to any Genki sushi again. All orders were sloppily made and was surprisingly quick to come out.... too quick. Overall my boyfriend gave a $5 tip which really wasn't deserved or worked for ( I'm in the restaurant business and I know many great servers and these workers don't even come close ) . Love love love the Garlic Salmon! It's torched on one side but the other side remains raw. Love the texture of this combo. This is our usual hang out place and I've missed it when we were in the mainland. There's so much to try for an affordable price. Most of the times though, if you ordered a deep fried dish, it takes a while for them to do it but other than that, still amazing. My favorite one is the fried wonton (?). They let the raw seafood sit out on the conveyor for too long, and when you grab it you don't know how long it's been out and some are dried out. To me, this is one of the better locations I've been to. Never had to wait long for a table or for waiter to take our orders. It's also a great alternative to eating fast food. I'm not a raw fish person, but I still enjoy the other dishes they offer, such as Tuna Salad, Crab Salad, Fried Eggplant, Veg Tempura, Veg Croquette, etc. (The good part is that these tend to be the cheaper dishes.) Not a happy camper.. waited almost 40 minutes to be seated , then when we were seated . Waited 15 mins for someone to help us and then when they did the waitress was extremely rude. We frequent here quite often . My 2 year old niece wanted a fruit which I ordered when we placed our ordered , she didn't get it until we were ready to leave , they were nice an said will comp it and when it was time to pay , she made like she didn't tell us that. They should at least give us a time frame . Genki Sushi is the local venue for the kaiten (revolving) sushi bar that is common and popular in Japan. They went through a lengthy recent renovation and added in a mini railway system that delivers your orders to you. I had the occasion to visit on a weekend as I was curious about how that worked. I had expected it to be really busy but was surprised that it was a short wait. There were a lot of offerings going around the conveyor belt, not sure how long they've been going around. My companions ate a few but I'm kind of picky. I selected a spicy tuna and was kind of disappointed. Sizewise, prior to the renovation, they had a lot more fish on the rice...way more. And sushi should hold it's shape...this one just fell apart right away and this seemed to be a common problem with other ones we tried. I understand that a lot of the sushi is made by the sushi robot so not sure what's happening there. Tried a couple of other sushi but wasn't really impressed. Special orders are made off a ipad/tablet and the train or boat delivers it to you. Pick it up, press the button and it returns. What I didn't like is that there was a young girl in the next booth. Whenever the train/boat passed by, she was trying to touch it and was even handling other dishes on the conveyor belt and placing them back..yuck! Service was very good with water and tea getting refilled constantly. All in all, it's OK but you get what you pay for...fast food sushi. read more
