This place is a no frills location but the food was well prepared and the service was better than some more higher scale locations I have been to around the world. First off, they have the little conveyor belt but also a menu, which makes ordering for groups easier.. Secondly, they know how to keep you tea filled and your water well topped off without having to ask. The only reason that I took away a star was because they pool tips. This allows the bad servers get the same amount as those who work their butts off. This is a must do if you are in the area and want a good meal from a local owner. read more

I don't normally edit my reviews but a recent trip to Genki Sushi in Kaneohe, really has me bothered. In previous visits to Genki, I was assured of great tasting dishes made with fresh ingredients and served hot or cold. When I visited on 3/30/18, it was a disappointing experience with the food taking a long time to come out. The conveyer belt wasn't running and food was only being delivered by servers or the bullet train. I noticed the train was only bringing 1 entry at a time for only 1 group at a time (one delay). It appears the hot dishes are being made as they're being ordered (another delay). So the food is hot but one has to wait for a while. In the past, I'd be in and out within an hour with a party of 6 but last night for just me and my wife, it took over 90 minutes. The manager said they've been waiting for 2-3 months to get the repair parts for the conveyer belt and are also frustrated. I thought it was a restaurant procedure to reduce the wasted dishes that were made but not eaten but looking at the Pearl Ridge Genki Sushi today, I noticed their conveyer belt was working. Service is still great and the food is still good but the owners really should get that system fixed. By the time we left, wait time was 30 - 40 minutes and with all the other eateries around, I'm sure the restaurant is losing business because of the long wait times. read more

This Gengki Sushi location is convenient for us because we live in Kaneohe. It's located at Kanoehe Bay Shopping Center on the side where Longs Drugs sits. I always order the Tamago udon, Gunkan spicy tuna or spicy tuna bowl. I never miss ordering a hot green tea... because it's always so cold in there. My kids always get the the edamame beans side dish, Nigirii spam and the Dragon roll. My husband likes the Ebi fry, and enjoys the spicy tuna roll. Its a win win situation because everyone can pick and choose what they like and everybody is happy. Don't forget to bring a jacket though, it gets pretty cold in there. read more

10/13/08: Okay, its taken me a couple years of living here until I finally visited this chain. We went tonight with a large group and principally chose this place by following our niece's three year old desires (she likes the daikon sushi). Anyways, I knew the drill about ordering what you can from the menu and only taking from the belt items that you see them make fresh. The last sushi belt place I visited was in Japan many many years ago, this place didn't disappoint (nor did it impress) as long you know what you're doing. The food is reasonably priced, and it's fun to order from the computer keypad and have your sushi come zipping to you via race car, fish, train, I can't remember all of the conveyance vehicles they have. Genki is also good for us because we don't eat raw fish. There are plenty of choices without fish, such as natto sushi, inari sushi, futomaki, tempura CA rolls, tuna salad sushi, seaweed salad sushi, even spam, kalbi, and hot dog sushi. We decided to try one more time in hopes that it was just a fluke. Did something change here? New management? First off, many of our favorite menu items were discontinued. I like this location (though I wish they would upgrade to the new touch order screens like at the newly renovated location at Ala Moana). It is open and spacious with plenty of seating - though like with all in this chain they won't seat you until your entire party has arrived. Also, the only bathrooms are in another part of the building, so if you have small children, make sure you have them go before you bother sitting down. Unlike a lot of reviewers, I do often take plates off of the conveyor, as long as it looks fresh and hasn't been around the conveyor too many times. The chefs in the middle are frequently putting out new plates, so it pays to be vigilant. Also, placing an order sometimes takes forever as it's not the most attentive service. Still, the food is decent and fast if you're in the mood for a little of this and a little of that. I often get a salad, spicy ahi hand roll, and cucumber roll, sometimes ordering mixed veggie tempura or a vegetable croquet to go with it. My husband loves the veggie inside-out roll (not on the menu anymore, but they'll still make it if you order it). I took off a star from my review since they recently increased their prices without improving anything about the restaurant, food, or service. I will also not be going as often since the prices increased. If you want a spicy ahi bowl, skip this and go to Kozo Sushi (also in the Windward Shopping Center, next to Foodland). read more

I love sushi, so we tried this place on our visit to Oahu. Food: Good selection and the kids really like taking their own plates. It's fun for them as well as adults. It you want to order something special, it only takes about five minutes to get it and it comes out on a little bullet train (or racecar) that stops right next to your table. The only downside was that there was no "special" item that only Genki sushi makes. I like going to places to try their signature item. Also, my favorite sushi place makes a jalepeno roll which is to die for. I would love to see a sushi place get creative and try something new. Service: No complaints. The guy who seated us was courteous and our waitress was very nice. She refilled our drinks fast, gave us recommendations...very nice. Atmosphere: It's a chain, so it lacked the rustic feel of a family owned business, but it was very clean. However, there is no bathroom inside, so you have to go outside and around the corner, which is odd but, we can work with it. Overall: I definitely would go back, especially if they change up the menu a bit. It's also just really fun to pull your sushi down when you want it, much like a buffet. Nice renovation but ever since they reopened, I feel that the quality and service went downhill. Sure the bullet express is cool, but I swear sometimes the workers take old stuff off the conveyor belt and send it out on the express cause sometimes the nori on the sushi is soggy and the hot food (karaage chicken) is cold! That totally defeats the purpose of ordering food from the back!! And what's up with the lack of those little shoyu/wasabi bowls? I went there twice and both times they didn't have any to spare!! They instead gave me styrofoam soup containers for my shoyu and wasabi! I used to enjoy going to Genki Kaneohe because it was convenient and the food & service was good. by far the worst genki I have ever been to. im never coming back to this location again! Me and my bf were looking for a place to eat after our errands we had to do. My mother in law ask the girl if her tonkatsu was coming, so she said let me see our remote. She said you didn't order tonkatsu, so my mother in law calls chicken Katsu tonkatsu too. So my mother in law said is there a chicken Katsu, she said yes, we don't have tonkatsu here.‍ is any kind of Katsu coming? We asked for more water, more tea, they're usually good on these things. It seemed like the girl in our area was in her own world. We had 2 kids with us, so they gave them the 2 kids cups, which was free before, now they charge for it. I think my experience here over the past year has been good enough to up my rating to 4 stars. Honestly, even though it's Japanese owned, this place would probably not meet most standards that a Japanese from Japan would have for a kaiten-zushi restaurant, but obviously it's popular with the locals, considering the wait lines we always have to deal with. Less issues with the rice not having vinegar in it, and I've learned what to order that I think gives me best bang for my buck. For one, I don't bother too much with anything that has ahi, except maybe a spicy ahi nigiri. There's other fish there that I think just plain taste better. I'd go more for the hamachi, if they have it, or my favorite, the salmon: onion salmon & garlic salmon fill a good portion of my meal there. Think it's the best fish that Genki has to offer, along with their vegetable tempura offerings such as egg plant & green beans. Shrimp tempura can be hit or miss, I don't usually order it, but sometimes get stuck with leftovers from what my kids don't eat. Some other things offered, like cupcake and mochi desserts, seem excessively expensive for what you get, so we hardly ever partake. This is one of our new favorite "weekly dinner with friends" location. I'd always heard of the conveyer belt sushi restaurant but hadn't tried it until about a month ago. Food comes out in a timely manner, the servers are very attentive making sure drinks are refilled, etc. The food itself is not too pricey, my husband and I can easily eat our fill for less than 30 bucks. To be honest, I've never been to a restaurant and not left a tip. My boyfriend and I walked in yesterday (10/29/2019) to grab lunch around 3-3:30pm. Upon opening the door we were not greeted, only shown to a table without any interaction from our "server". Our water was brought to us fairly quickly, and our sushi came out (for the first time) actually pretty fast, but I think it's because there were only three other tables in the restaurant. We usually have to wait around 45 minutes for just a single maki. Our food came before the wasabi dishes were given, causing us to wait to eat which was frustrating. Getting anyone's attention for service is pretty nonexistent unless you ring them on the bell which makes you feel like an asshole. Once we FINALLY could ask for our check I asked for a takeout box. Ten minutes later we get the check and no box. At this point I was so appalled by the lack of service I left my perfectly good poke on the table. This person literally had to remember to grab A BOX. They don't have to remember your order or anything. How stupid and lazy can you be? After handing over my card at the counter, I was not asked how the meal was, I was not given any sort of eye contact, I'm truly not even sure the workers there even know how to smile. I signed and left no tip. The only words I got walking out the door was a sarcastic thank-you. So if you want sushi for cheap(ish), sure give this a shot. But if you want ANY sort of service beyond free water and a set of chopsticks from your "server", I recommend trying literally anywhere else. May I suggest Ninja Sushi in the mall perhaps? Conveyor belt hasn't worked for at least 4 months, 1 row of booths is always closed off, even during busy times, they always run out of shoyu dishes (I mean, how expensive can these be? Can they not just buy some more)? No more tongs for ginger. Plastic forks now. Not a big deal, but really? You don't care enough to get something besides plastic forks? Prices are up, portion sizes are down, and sushi rolls come out looking like they were cut with a bread knife. Guess we'll be going to Kozo from now on. The whole point of Genki is the conveyor belt. The sushi on platters I've ordered has mostly been freshly made but once the egg nigiri had refrigerator-cold, hard rice. This used to be a neighborhood favorite, but it's gone downhill. First, they've got an iPad now from which you can order, but it would've been nice if our server had asked us if we'd ever used it. Instead, he seated us in a booth way too big for two people, brought our drinks, and disappeared. We fumbled our way through an iPad order only to be told at the end that there was a limit of four items per order. Then, when we thought that was the iPad's way of saying NO to our order, part of it zipped by on a boat and stopped. Of course, because I was starving, my husband's food came first. I began double checking what part of the order the iPad had taken and what part it had rejected but found that it had actually taken the entire order despite our exceeding the limit! What was the point of the warning then? At any point in this confusion, I would've welcomed help from our server. Only when we failed to press the button to return the boat did he show up. The great thing about all of this is it saved me money. Usually a very generous tipper, I left a mere 10% tip. Even more important, the fish is getting less fresh there. I swear the ahi was a few days old. It's a SUSHI place; the ahi should be so fresh it's practically still swimming! read more

Out of all the Genki Sushi's I've ever been in, this has to be the most terrible one I've ever been in. My mom and I were having an early lunch because her dad's grave is closer here than where we live. The servers were mostly incognito; didn't really come around unless they filled up our waters. The speed of service isn't that great either. I ordered an agedashi tofu and a family seated AFTER us got theirs before we got ours. I'm currently still waiting for my agedashi tofu (yes, I'm still in the restaurant). This location isn't the best choice if you're looking forward to eating at a Genki restaurant. read more
