I'm a big fan of Japanese cuisine and I'm comparing genki to my favorites, Mizu and avocado restaurant. First off, not to impressed with the interior and our waitress wasn't very personable. Probably the difference of culture/ not that great in the English language. Started of with the volcano salad (excellent) kani salad and some shumai (just ok). I had the udon noodles stir fry(very very oily) and the wife had the salmon (small portion for 16$ and it was over cooked). When we left our clothes had the smell of the food on them (poor ventilation). All in all it was OK at best. Would never go back. read more

Best sushi on Staten Island. We probably eat (order or go there) here 2-3 times a month. The brown rice they use for rolls is the best I've had in a sushi roll. The specialty rolls are all delicious. The Halloween and the spicy girl are two of my favorites. Every once in a while I'll order from somewhere else out of laziness because that place accepts online orders and genki does not, and I always regret it once I get the food. If you are looking to eat sushi and are on the south shore of Staten Island, this should be your destination. read more

Called and ordered food for delivery over an hour ago. When i put the food on my credit card they told me i had to put the tip on now because she wanted to close. They charged my card immidiately, still havent received my food and no one answers the line. read more

I'm super picky about sushi and this place is good in my book. Super clean, great service and reasonably priced. I've been a few times during my lunch hour and they've been able to accomodate us pre-ordering and having it ready when we get there so that we're able to get back to work on time. The rock shrimp appetizer is delicious and I really like the spicy crunchy tuna roll. I also love those coffee flavored candies they give with the check. read more

The price is decent and a mixed feeling about this place. We ordered a box of Uni according to the special and recommended by our waitress. I felt wipe off because a box with only five Uni..! WTF. Then we ordered a sashimi box, but too small. However, we still end up with $100+. Lunch will be a better deal. read more

This WAS our favorite place. Not sure if it is under new mangement or what- but on a recent trip they have the same menu however the rolls have SHRUNK significantly!! I asked the waitstaff what happenend to the rolls and they said some sushi places use more rice and they look bigger... Im like NO. I have been coming here forever and they were always big and great. Its a new upsell so you wont buy the cheap regular rolls that are now teeny and buy the bigger, more $$ fancy rolls. No way Genki. We will NOT be back. Cucumber has similar low prices, but their rolls are fresh and normal sized. read more

I love Genki! From the best hibachi fried rice, to the rolls that are made to perfection, one can not go wrong with eating or ordering from Genki. Throughout the times that I've gone, it's been through a few renovations, making the atmosphere very enjoyable. The food has never failed to impress me, especially at the price point. The lunch deal of any 2 or any 3 rolls is definitely my favorite, coming with a soup and salad! They're special rolls are also always in tune with the monthly celebrations, (Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc!) which I just find so darn cute! Genki is a fine establishment, and I will always keep coming back for more. read more

My guy and I useto love going to genki. Always consistent with the food and service. Great ambiance. We've been going there for 3 years. Unfortunately we can no longer depend on their rake out. I didn't even want to give one start to this place. Each time I've ordered from this place whether it was to sit and eat or take out for delivery and there has been a problem. I called to tell them that they gave me the wrong kind of roll. I had explicitly asked for a eel tempura roll and I even restated the order for no mix up, the woman even repeated the order. I get the order 45min later and saw that I was given a eel cucumber roll. I called and said that it was wrong and the same woman that took my order started laughing at me and said I was wrong and that it is the same exact thing. I responded back and asked her then why was there a price difference for it if it is the same exact thing. Also as a person who personally has worked in a restaurant business I know that you are never to tell a costumer that they are wrong. I spoke to the manager and speaking to him was as if he didn't even care about what my quarry was that I had complained about, until I had to raise my voice is when it seemed I had gotten his attention. I told him about his employee and it was completely ignored and brushed off to as if it was nothing. I asked for my money back for the mistake and they had the delivery person bring it back. I asked the delivery man what kind of roll it was in my hand and without even saying what kind was it he said it was a eel cucumber roll. Only eat here if you want to get your order wrong, get told that your wrong and to get laughed at in your face. Horrible management and employee staff. I'd advise the owner to clean house on the staff effective immediately! read more

So I know its a sushi place, but I am not much of a sushi eater, I ordered a shrimp tempura roll. It was good, but I've had better. Mistake in ordering hibachi from this place. Ordered the steak hibachi, meat was tough and omg FLAVORLESS!!!! Truly the worst hibachi I have ever eaten. Save your $$, go to Misu on Page or Buddah Lounge. Arirang for hibachi. read more

Constantly messes up my order and charges me extra for things such as brown rice or spicy mayo and then they don't even bring it to me so I end up paying for nothing every single time. Today my order was completely messed up and every single roll was wrong (sweet potato instead of California and philly instead of spicy tuna) and when you call to complain they are super rude and argue with you .. I think I know the difference between a crab and a potato... the food isn't bad when they actually get it right but the service sucks. read more

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING PLACE! I placed an order over the phone and they delivered the wrong order. I started eating the miso soup and used the soy sauce when I noticed the rest of the order was wrong. I called and the driver came back and demanded I give him the half eaten order so he can deliver to it to the rightful owner. I insisted I already ate some of the soup but he wasn't having it. Then the driver came back after ringing the doorbell 6x and raised his voice at me to give him the soy sauce and spicy mayo that I already used! Disgusting! Unsanitary! Just plain wrong. I called the restaurant and the "manager" told me "not to worry about it". 'Needless to say I will not be going back and I will not be ordering for delivery either. read more

Came here for the first time after a few people recommended it as the best sushi in this side of the island. We used to live in Great Kills and went to Hokkaido all the time. This place was clean, yummy, fresh and all around a good sushi spot. Service was friendly. We ordered shrimps shumai, calamari, rainbow roll, paradise roll and summer roll. Last time I had the sushi it was super delicious the time before I took some home and I got severe food poisoning so I don't know if it was a bad shipment or old fish I'm usually very impressed with the prices and the place and they're good staff but I did get sick once for three days so I was hesitant to try it again but last time I ate it it was the best sushi I've ever had read more

Came here on a friday night and I was definitely impressed when I walked inside. From the outside, Genki doesn't look like much. It is next to a closed supermarket and the outside looks fairly plain. Inside, however, it is a very nice looking restaurant. The large TV's at the bar, the candle's, lighting, and decor were very nice. I was very impressed with how fast and courteous the service was especially considering how crowded it was that night. The fried rice was great and the sushi rolls were very fresh. I'd definitely come back (especially when I have a gift card to Genki). read more

Genki Sushi has completed a renovation. Better lighting compared to the very dim setting prior. Walls have been tiled over now instead of the dark blue like ocean aquarium feeling. A projector light has also been added livening up this great spot. The service is great, whether the need for a drink always on time with out request. The client turnover is very good for the most part with the limited seating availability. The presentation and precision cuts are excellent. I decided to go with my usual first a sushi for two and volcano salad never disappoints. I then added a Bianca roll to try something different for a change and yes it may be a new favorite. The flavor of mango was excellent pairing with fish. This specialty roll is a must try. I finished with my version of dessert a spicy crunchy tuna hand roll. The seaweed paper was crispy the cone filled with spicy tuna. Leaving me content and full. I would continue to recommend Genki to family and friends. Keep up the good work. Been here a million times & ordered from here just over that... Never really sat down to write a review though but considering how much I brag about Genki on Twitter... I thought now was the perfect opportunity. Such cheap food for such quality taste, genki really is the spot to go if you're craving sushi... Tempura... Teriyaki... Rice especially. Their fried rice is so delicious and you NEED to put their special sauce on or you're doing it wrong. Love this place, really. Never had a complaint about it! read more
