I was in the market for a plumber due to unforeseen circumstances. My kitcen sink was backing up and I was freaking out. Luckily through Yelp I sent out a quote request to local plumbers. Genteel Plumbers were quick to respond via email. Once I got a technician called and scheduled I was calming down. The plumber arrived, quickly assessed the sink and began to work on it. The prices are fair, and the work was done quickly and efficiently. Especially with the world in fear of the Covid 19 they completely sanitized my sink where they touched. Brought in Genteel this week, when I noticed they were making several stops along our block. Our neighbors were having backup issues, and I felt it was time for a maintenance review of my sewage pipe from the house to the City sewer. They came out, cleaned our sewage pipe, cleaned the P trap, and cleaned out the connection to the City. They also scoped the pipe at my request once cleaning was done. Great job guys! read more

They use smarmy tactics like showing you a list of "choices" with the prices hidden and upselling you on the comically overpriced ones before they'll let you see the actual numbers. Had a really great experience with Genteel Plumbers! I had dropped my ring down the bathroom sink drain and normally I would've just called my losses. However, this ring had a lot of sentimental value to me so we tried fishing it out with an assortment of different household items lying around. Our water heater failed on a Sunday night, after emailing/calling multiple plumbing companies we ultimate chose Genteel due to their quick response and recommendations. By 3pm on Monday they had wrapped up. The scope included removing the old unit, then relocating the gas and water lines and installing the new unit. Genteel just quoted me over $5,000 to replace a 40 gallon gas water heater, nothing special except a few flights of steps. I just went to Lowes, bought one for $500 and put it in myself. Took an hour, plus travel. I have paid $1,300 in the past, and would pay over $1,500 with the steps. I see a lot of great reviews here, so I don't know what happened. All I can say is beware, may be great service, but be sure you get the value. For jobs with a fixed-price, I recommend you check to make sure it is fair before proceeding. For work where they would show up to do a job where you would know the hours spent and their hourly rate, making them inherently accountable, then judging from the other reviews, it seems they would still be great. It's true, Plumbers should still get paid a LOT, hundreds of dollars per hour. They have tons of overhead. read more

We had a nut to loosen on an old faucet and they brought in the big pipe cutter. They installed the new faucet which is gorgeous. I didn't have the right tools to shut the water down but after we got it turned off they showed me what needed to be fixed and provided a quote to complete the work. Had a clogged tub drain. Called Genteel about coming to fix the drain. They wouldn't give a quote over the phone but then when they came the guy took one look at my clogged tub drain and wanted $360 for a snake job. I asked why it was so much and he said with a chuckle that it was the weekend rate. Ridiculous to charge double on the weekend. While he may be a competent plumber, he was trying to take advantage of us for wanting a Sunday repair. Do yourself a favor and call a different plumber. We called Ace Plumbing and they came less than an hour after we called and they and did the job for half the price. read more

Umm... They came out to give me a price on a few things, including fixing my kitchen faucet. (The spray function is sputtering.) They said that we would have to buy a whole new faucet. WHAT?!? Because if they fixed it, something else in the faucet would break later on, and they would be liable for that. Wha???? That makes literally no sense. They're plumbers? I have employed the Genteel Plumbers on two occasions, separated by about a year. Both times I was extremely pleased with their punctuality, their ability to tell me what they were going to do and how they would do it. On the first occasion they fixed a gas leak with a new procedure they explained to me. On the second occasion they checked for a leak, because someone said she had smelled gas. They searched and probed for two hours and concluded there was no leak. I have felt safe ever since. And, yes, I would definitely hire them again for any plumbing job. read more

Called these guys for what I thought was a hair clog in the bathtub. Being one of seven units in the building I didn't think it was something wrong with the building but it was! The guys from Genteel found it was a building wide issue. They fixed it using some really advanced water powered blaster which unclogged the main sewer without tearing up the sidewalk which is always a cheaper method. I did the "request a quote" through Yelp and didn't realize it sent to 4 different plumbers in the area. Genteel called immediately so I picked up and told them about my clogged bathtub and all the remedies I've tried over the last 6 months. They were available same day, came at the very beginning of the availability window. They came over for a free consultation, and I went with them since they were already here and had the power draining. They charged a little more ($210) than what some of the other plumbers quoted ($175 not having seen it), but they were the fastest to respond and now my tub drains easily.
