I have been coming to George's since I was in high school and it's so good! I love the chicken pasta salad.

I've been craving pasta for weeks and gave this restaurant a try. Overall, it was a great experience from the beginning. I got there at about 3:30 and was told I could sit anywhere. Only 5 other customers in the whole place. Service was prompt and when the waiter was busy, the cook brought my food to the table and asked if I wanted anymore garlic bread to go with my meal. I ordered the shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo and it was very delicious. They did not skimp on the Alfredo sauce like most places which I absolutely loved. My only criticism would be that they don't have a drink menu. I had to ask the waiter what they had other than water. I would definitely go back. read more

Ordinarily we really like this place however, tonight we weren't that hungry so we ordered plain spaghetti noodles with butter. We also ordered one small side of meat sauce. We were charged the regular spaghetti price and additionally another separate price for the one side. In other words we paid as though we had spaghetti with meat sauce plus the additional meat sauce side. It's just not right. So for less meat sauce we paid 4 dollars more just because it was on separate plates. When we asked about it all they came back with was " well it just rings up that way" Really????? 2 plain pastas, side of meat sauce , side of spinach, a beer and an iced tea $43.90. I would highly recommend any of their delicious fish entrees as well as the Calamari appetizer, Fettuccini Alfredo, Baked Ziti & Turkey Spaghetti. Just finished having lunch at Georgie's with my grandmother. It was our first time here and it exceeded out expectations! My grandmother is Italian so she takes pasta very seriously and she loved it. Yes, we went with a huge group 30 mins before closing. But we DID politely ask if it was too late and if it was okay. The hostess told us it wasn't a problem. So we definitely didn't expect for the manager to be rude to us when we tried sitting down to eat. He barked orders at us and we endured about 5 minutes of eye rolling and huffing and puffing to show how annoyed he was at us being there. It got so bad we left before even ordering, so hopefully he got to go home on time - which was obviously what was on his mind. Maybe close earlier if you don't want people to come inside? read more

A neighborhood type restaurant which is pretty much as described in these various reviews. About half the dinner menu items are under $15, and half are over. Bread is served with the meals, and it is excellent. Named wine by the glass seemed somewhat expensive to me...mostly over $10/glass offerings, but the house wine was a more affordable $7/glass. The service was generally okay, but not outstanding. For instance, our left-overs were individually packed, but not labelled, nor put into a bag. Extra bread was not offered with the left-overs. We had to wait for our check, and my water glass was empty (the place was not crowded as it was before 6 pm). If I lived in that area, I would definitely recommend those under $15 dinners for carry-out. read more

wish I could get no stars I work 12 hours a day at the VA Hospital I just wanted to feed me and my children before I go to work . Stumbled across this place on a Friday afternoon. There was absolutely no one there but myself and boyfriend but it darn sure was not because restaurant was lacking. I ordered the Penne Renne and him the Georgios Pizza (i think thats correct) and both were tasty treats. The pizza was vegetarian. My dish was super delicious. The owner happened to be there and stoppes by. Very nice guy,with a great sense of humor. You can tell that he is hands on and dedicated to his business. We sat on the patio, which was nice and spacious. We will def be back to try other menu items a they have quite a few. read more

We have lived in the neighborhood for several years and decided to stop in to try George's for the first time. We were really disappointed. When my husband ordered a beer the person taking our order looked at him like he was crazy and said we don't have that. He said "oh do you not serve beer?" She said yea, but not that...it was rude. We were then told the that extremely greasy $23 calamari app was in fact frozen and heated up. When I had not eaten my $30 pasta dish the waitress asked if I like my dish I told her I did not care for my oily & bland pasta dish. The gentleman that came over told me I should have told him earlier that I didn't like it? Not sure what he meant? I told the waitress very soon after getting the dish? He offered me a dessert, but then when he brought the tablet over to charge me for the dinner he said "oh wait I need to add the dessert, I really wish you would have told me you didn't like your dish sooner (?)" and then added the dessert and also charged me for the dish I didn't eat...we paid $136!!!! For a terrible mediocre meal...I can't stop thinking about how expensive this dinner was for frozen bland greasy mediocre Italian food. Needless to say we will not return to this restaurant, they obviously don't care. read more

Not exactly impressed with their "baked penne." I guess taking a baked dish to go is kinda hard, hence the 3 stars, but for $14.95 it's kinda steep. I could have boiled some pasta, opened a can of Ragu, put some cheese, baked it, and it would have cost me less. That's why Maggiano's is the only Italian I'll do. We went here for the first time on Friday night and we loved the atmosphere! As soon as we walked in we were immediately greeted and given a table. We ordered the sampler appetizer which was AMAZING! We ended up waiting almost one hour for a 10" cheese pizza, which was kind of disappointing. It was not too busy and others were getting there food before we did. It's possible they forgot our order. When the pizza finally came out it was just okay. It had way too much cheese. We look forward to trying the other dishes here as we can not base our opinion solely on one dish. Plus we are pizza snobs as we are true Italian. Though the dish we had was subpar, the customer service did make up for it (aside from the long wait - but I'm sure this is not a regular thing as I have seen so many good reviews of this place) We will definitely come back and try other dishes and re-review our thoughts. read more

I have enjoyed the pleasant attitudes and good food at this restaurant many times. Until last night and again tonight. Yes, I ate dinner there two nights in a row. I use to like to eat here. But unfortunately I had to interact with Steve as my waiter last night. I thought his attitude must reflect he was having a bad night last night. Or maybe he was a manager & did not want to wait on a table. They were busy. Tonight, my waitress, Becca, was delightful as always. But when I got up to ask about wi-fi I ended up hearing from Steve who abruptly told me they don't have wi-fi. So I guess he was having another bad day. Then I watch him greet and talk friendly to other tables in the restaurant. Now I was paying attention to him because he was unpleasant to me. Everyone at this restaurant is always been nice! I have been eating here for years & fortunately never met him before. He acts like he thinks he is important. I decided to talk with him when I left. Sometimes a simple apology can clear the air. But no. He was sorry I felt the way I did & told me he had worked in the hospitality industry a long time. Apparently he thought that meant he could never be wrong. After driving 1,000 miles from Florida to Houston, I was starved. When I got moved into my place I was looking for some good restaurants and this one popped up and was very close to me. I decided to check it out...good call. First off, the atmosphere is very pleasing. It is a family owned business and when the owner heard that his restaurant was the first one I checked it in Houston he came over and chatted with me for a bit. The table next to me was also friendly and we talked for a while. Then, of course, there's the food. It is exquisite. Lol. I mean it's really good. Use whatever adjective you want here, but the food is delicious. For dessert, I recommend the bread pudding!! Lastly, the wait staff was also great. I'm actually responding to a review by Jim. The owner / manager kept referring to me as Jim's "companion" in her response and I found it hilarious -- considering I made it clear he was my father. "Companion" has a few insinuations. I could have not responded at all, but wanted Rene to know, mostly -- I got a good laugh from the crude remark. And I don't think my friends who have "companions" will find it funny how bigoted the owner is. As for the service the day of question, it was actually GREAT!!! Worthy of those two extra fragmented exclamation marks. I told Rene, quietly, my dad was uncomfortable with a sever's beard -- it wasn't personal. She got a new server for the table, I thought end of story. Before I made the request, my dad went from not wanting an appetizer to asking if I wanted to go somewhere else. Low and behold, when another server came to the table, my father suddenly wanted to stay and even ordered a first course. What Rene probably didn't realize was because she told the waiter with a beard about the complaint, the lad decided to come by the table throughout the meal and make malicious comments to other customers and other employees about the complaint. He also was sure to lean his head over our table tauntingly, three times by my count; mostly over my dad's food. I think Rene was too busy to notice. But this clearly made my pop uncomfortable, (he got a to-go box). The unprofessional behavior was an annoyance, no matter how popular or hip the server was. And, yes, I have a tenuous beard. Chicks dig it, as do friends and their "companions." But, I don't work in a restaurant and when I did, I was told no facial hair was allowed. This was in another state though. In retrospect, the replacement server excelled in service and was fun, my Bodybuilder Chicken was delicious, and the positive ambiance was a nice change. Aside from the initial server -- something was just harry about the guy...I couldn't quite put my finger on it -- there were no issues. Actually, the hostess ignored me when I asked for water while taking my seat. that's the waiter's job there apparently. As a side note, the customer is always right. read more

My wife's family wanted to go here for dinner and this place turned out to be a joke.. George's has to have the worst service I have ever experienced in my entire life.. On a Saturday night it was mostly inexperienced teenage waiters, we were greeted at the door and seated, 15 mins after our drinks showed up I had to ask another server if he could find our server to place the food order.. We were never offered a refill of wine or tea and I was annoyed enough I didn't feel like asking.. The food was brought out by one of the owners and it was hot, but the taste of the food was too off balanced.. The lasagna tomato sauce was too acidic and the portion size is a joke for the price, which by the way doesn't include salad, that was another 3 dollars per plate.. We did get four pieces of bread for a table of 5 though and no refills of the bread just like the drinks.. Oh yeah, I also had to hunt down the waitress again to get our check.. Like I said, this place has the best service EVER.. SO to recap, I paid 10-11 dollars for a small serving of lame tasting lasagna and 3 dollars for a small dinner salad.. The only good part other than leaving, was my wife's house wine, it was surprisingly good and ended up the highlight of a rather dull dinner.. For the cost, quality, portion size and service I would highly recommend staying away.. Also I don't know why Viann B. thinks this place has been here 10 years, just a few years ago it was a Jamaican restaurant and before that it was a Dairy Queen and it still shows... FYI to the owners, if you're going to have an open kitchen concept and customers can walk by at least try to keep it cleaner than you do.. read more

And what brought me to George's Pastaria in the first place?? Well, I was in the Alief area and I was craving some Italian, so I figured I'd check Yelp for some suggestions on where to grub. Hence, this review! Now let me address why George's is only getting 3 stars. Food: Rigatoni Campagnolo 5/5 Garlic Bread 2/5 Customer Service 2/5 Total: 9/15 or 3/5 (For all you mathematicians out there :D My waiter never ONCE asked me how anything was tasting. NOT ONCE! Sorry, but isn't that one of the first steps of customer service as a server? Anywho, my server was just really really bleh. I asked him what the daily specials were, he told me, and then when I asked him for the price of each respective special...he got flustered and annoyed. Well...EXCUSE ME SIR, I thought I had the right to know how much I would be paying for my food. Guess that luxury isn't available until you receive the bill. Even after I was done with my dish the server hardly spoke to me. Shame shame shame! Anywho, George's Pastaria, solid food, lackluster service. I have been having George's food since I was a toddler. Hands down- George's Pastaria has THE BEST chicken Parmesan sandwich in Houston. Every time I am in the neighborhood it's a must! They also have a really exquisite meatball spaghetti and great garlic toast as complimentary appetizers. Their customer service is also a 5!! I genuinely love this place. Matt is amazing and so are the cooks. Friendly and family environment for any day. Definitely recommend George's and you should definitely try the chicken parm sandwich at least once in your lifetime!! read more

Bad experience.... The management seems to think that allowing a waiter to have a full beard is perfectly ok. It is not acceptable and as a consumer I will take the $500.00 a year I would have spent there and go elsewhere. In what dimension does a snarky waiter get to watch Duck Dynasty and through a total lack of originality emulate the unsanitary facial hair at the expense of the customer. George's is a wonderful little neighborhood place that really emphasizes friendliness over fanciness - which I really appreciate. The hubs and I have stopped in here twice, once for dinner and once for lunch, and both visits were great. It really doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is cozy and there's a nice big patio that is perfect for al fresco dining. One of my favorite things about George's is that they allow you to bring your own wine and only charge a $10 corkage fee. Why don't more places do this? It's so fun because we can have great wine AND a great meal for relatively cheap, whereas when we eat at home we're guaranteed great wine for sure, but Chef Sara doesn't always hit a home run in the kitchen. I don't know what her problem is... Our first visit, for dinner, is a little foggy as it was a while ago. I do remember that Dave took care of us and he was wonderful - telling us stories about his travels through Italy etc. My husband had the veal parmesan which he fell completely in love with and I had the snapper a la franchaise which was very tasty as well. His veal however was much more memorable than my snapper. Lunch was also great - I forgot to mention the wonderful garlic bread that comes out first, it is amazing! We shared a cheese and spinach pizza that was absolutely delicious. Lots and lots of spinach piled on there and a wonderful crust - not too thin, not to thick. Perfecto! Excellent service tonight from Theresa and David. Their service tonight prompted me to write this review which I should have written long ago. George's - well The food quality is always good to great and consistent. Our family eats here regularly. It is family owned and family friendly. Weekend evenings there are lots of kids on the patio or just outside playing. The owners are frequently present and on the floor helping their team. The prices are reasonable and they let you bring your own wine with a small corkage fee. And of course they also sell wine and beverages as well. Good people. Good food.
