I ordered from this restaurant expecting, at the very minimum, food that was warm. What arrived was stone cold. Not lukewarm, not 'cooled slightly in transit', but properly cold, as though it had been prepared and then left to sit on a pass while the delivery driver took the scenic route through three counties. The temperature of food is not a minor detail. It is the entire point of hot food. A kitchen that cannot get a hot meal to a customer while it is still hot has failed at the most basic part of its job. I genuinely could not tell whether the dish had been freshly cooked and then abandoned, or simply reheated from earlier in the day and sent out regardless. I will not be ordering from GDK again, and I would strongly encourage anyone considering it to look elsewhere. There are plenty of restaurants in the area perfectly capable of delivering food at the temperature it was designed to be eaten at. This one, evidently, is not among them. read more

We had been looking forward to trying this new restaurant for a while, and it did not disappoint! The staff was incredibly attentive, friendly and responsive. Emily was an absolute JOY to have as a server. She's a keeper (give that girl a raise and some PRAISE!). ;-) The food is authentic German street food, and the flavors were legit & authentic. We are always eager to try new places and while driving by on University Dr came across this new dining place. Turned out to be a new found with healthy chicken shawarma/doner options. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleased! If you'd had a gyro, this is similar yet quite different. A donner kebab is thinly shaved meat, sandwiched in a waffle like pita bread, stuffed with veggies, sauces, and packed with tons of flavor! It looks bigger than one could think to handle however it was super easy to eat and was totally fulfilling. The great thing was that it didn't leave me with a heavy feeling at all; rather a sense that I actually ate something tasty and healthy. The fries were great too with the options of the seasons but the best were the sauces!!! Try them all!! There is a yogurt, garlic, and spicy and all pair well with the donner and fries! We got the original donner- as is, and were totally satisfied. I really would not have changed a thing, but they can customize if you wish. Service was friendly however it was slow... so definitely expect to wait a little bit longer than a chipotle! The ambience was great, plenty of seating in a industrial/retro/casual space! The only other döner place I've found Stateside that was anything like the döner I would get overseas is Cafe Divan in DC. GDK is excellent. Also, if you are looking for a "German restaurant," this is not what this is. This is a döner kebab place that does döner the way the Turks in Germany make them. And it's spot on. Firstly, if the food is good and it's expensive, okay great, makes sense. This food was horrid and expensive so I was already upset as soon as I took my first bite and had to go get salt packets. I don't believe in having to season my phone when I'm eating out. If I wanted to do that, I'd eat at home. The salt was also not even to season it, more so to cover up the taste of the rice. We got bowls and the "original" whatever that is. The rice for the bowls? Made in an INSTAPOT. You can't even be bothered to get out a pot and make fresh rice every few hours. The chicken was dry and hard (like when you shred chicken then microwave it too much) The rice was soggy probably because it had been sitting there overnight/all day but also because the rice to water ratio was definitely off. You're already being lazy by making it in an INSTANT POT but not you can't even be bothered to google rice to water ratio? The "original", the bread it came in was sooooo small. I mean think a bit bigger than a toaster waffle then folded in half. The guy up front was nice but the food was so bad. And not bad like "oh we'll give it one more try" I mean bad like complain worthy. Like if you were at a restaurant, you'd send it back -- I don't care who you are, Karen or not, you're sending that food bad. Lastly, there was a hair in my food. So that's nice. I went to eat it the next day because I didn't want to waste $50 of food and I found a hair. Was not mine as it was short and black -- same type of hair the cook had (place has glass that's see through to the kitchen). This place just isn't good. I wish I could give it zero stars. I used to be stationed in Germany and doner was one of my favorite foods from that region. So I was stoked to show people doner when I noticed this place. It started by being charged a ful doner box when we ordered fries. Then all the meat was cold, tasteless, sauces were gross. And my wife ordered cheese fries and the "cheese machine was down" so instead of a refund they told us they would be bring a food item no one wanted. Yet we never got that either. My husband and I came on Friday afternoon around lunch time, and we were the only people in the restaurant. Kind of odd for it being lunch time, but we figured maybe we just came when there wasn't a rush. We ordered two of their original doner kebabs with beef and an order of their curry fries. I personally was not a fan of the waffle bread and the beef was cut SO thin, it didn't even taste like meat. They also skimped on the sauces so it was super dry. The curry fries definitely tasted like curry! They were a bit heavy handed with the seasoning, but at least it wasn't bland. This was not what we expected but was a very tasty meal! We had the doner box with a mix of chicken and beef. Mine was with the salad and fries and my husband had the fries and cheese version. It had the meat, fries and salad layered in the box. The salad was extremely fresh, the fries were somehow still crispy and the meat was fresh and flavorful. We came around 2:30 mid week, there was 1 person ahead of us and our 2 wraps took over 15 mins to make, there was like 5 people in the kitchen, doing assembly style but it was slow as molasses. First off I am beyond excited to finally see Doner making its way stateside and we are lucky to have it in north Texas. That being said there are a few shortcomings that leave the experience lacking. I'm be had versions in Italy and Belgium and I realize that all versions are not the same but basic food tenants need to be respected! First off the food needs to be hot which was not the case and personally the kabob is shaved too thin making it abundant yet dry. The sauce helps but the overwhelming dill flavor of both the creamy sauces is a touch polarizing. Fries were warm but not hot and crispy. Further details worth noting are the limited seating when busy and the long wait times when busy. Get all of those spits up and running already and you won't lose customers after seeing the crowds.
