I then ask the lady at the front (before bike was done), how much would it have been if I didn't bring my own tube? "$15". Wait what? I'm so confused. Then why am I being charged $15 if I provided my own tube? "Well you didn't ask and just said you wanted the tube replaced with what you brought so that's what we're charging you for". Kinda had a little back and forth but ultimately, just knew it wasn't worth it or going anywhere based off the rude lady's demeanor. Small shop in need or not, customer service goes a long way and if they're hurting for business, definitely not surprised why. read more

I've been coming here for years to get my bike tires filled. I needed a bike for my son and came here to support a local shop and their prices were very competitive compared to Dick's and REI. I got a bmx bike because I didn't want to get a mountain climbing bike with gears. Just needed one that he can ride around the neighborhood and for that a bmx is perfect! Ricky sold me my bike. He also installed a bike kick stand for us. I also brought in my son's older bike and put on training wheels so that my other kid can ride my son's old bike. Service with a smile. Super friendly. I brought my E-bike into Gilbert's Bicycles to have my rear hydraulic brake bled and to have them diagnose an issue that I was having with my front hydraulic brake. Ricky was awesome! He asked that I leave the bike and that we would begin to work on it right away. Within about an hour, Ricky called me and explained that the issue was not that the brake needed to be bled, but the position of the rear brake caliper was off, thus causing the pads to wear unevenly and quicker than normal. Unfortunately, he did not have the specific brake pads I needed, but was able to hunt down a pair and get them delivered the following day. The next day, Ricky had not only changed out the rear brake pads, but he made some adjustments to help reduce the uneven wear. Additionally, he identified and completely fixed the issue that I was having with the front brake. Ricky was awesome and very competent. This is my new go to bike shop! Great Job!!! read more

Good prices, very fast service (1 day for a new bottom bracket) and the guy who runs it -I think- is friendly and helpful. Would go to get my bike chain cleaned here to help support local businesses even though I could do it myself. Usually would charge me 30 dollars for the service but this past weekend I went it and got it done and he raised the price to 55 dollars and did not tell me till after the work was done that the price almost doubled. Asked him how much a new chain would cost and he replied 38 dollars. Why not just recommend a new chain if it's cheaper? Took advantage of me and I will not be returning. read more

This place is horrible and expensive they think they are always right and the customer is always wrong. So i came to this bike shop so they can fix my sons brakes on his bike and they said they can fix anything. They charged me $70 and the bike was the same as when i dropped it off. I told him that the bike was the same and the brakes were still not working and he told me to have my son needs to eat beans and that he was too weak i told him that those bikes are meant for kids and it shouldnt be that difficult to use the brakes he then compared car brakes saying a car doesnt brake instant so neither does a bike. Horrible example so anyways he kept saying that the bike was a cheap walmart brand and that i should buy a $500 bike. I just left it at that i got ripped off so avoid bringing your bikes here. read more

Look at the other reviews, they are either really good or really bad. I saw both sides of Gilbert's. The first time I came here, the sales lady (Mrs Gilbert?) basically gave me the stink eye - I swore I'd never go there again. Then the other day I was at Sports Chalet and the bike guy there told me to go to Gilbert's for a part they did not carry. Reluctantly, I went. Gilbert's is a tiny shop packed with bikes and bike parts. The same lady was there but this time I spoke with the bike mechanic (Mr. Gilbert?). He was very helpful and gave me great advice/instructions on how to fix my bike. By the time I paid, the lady also warmed up to me. I know, I grow on people but this time I think I saw the real side of the folks that work/own the place. It may be a matter of language barrier, so for those that had a bad experience I suggest giving Gilbert's another try. Gilbert's is not a high tech high performance bike shop but if you have an old ride like mine, it is a great place to get an inexpensive part. Next time? I'll probably be back this weekend for the continuing saga of refurbishing my bike. read more

I bought a seat that we didn't like brought it back the next day and they refused to accept the return and change back to a different seat.They finally gave us the seat we wanted charged us for it and kept the other seat that we already paid for. Nice mom and pop bike shop. Had my two bikes tuned up after the movers bent my handle bar and tore the covering of the brake and gear cables. Tune up cost $75 per bike which is comparable to other local bikes nearby. When I picked up the bike Gilbert was nice and informed me he also repaired the aforementioned damage and charged me $25 additional which I thought was reasonable. Rode bike that day and everything worked perfectly. I would definitely come back and recommend for a tune up. read more

I had 4 bicycles that needed a lil work. Air in the tires in 3 of them, and new innertubes in one. 2 of the bikes needed lube as well. They complained that I needed them to do too many things at one time. Then the next day, on the tire that he just topped off, it was completely flat and one of the chains that he lubed up came off completely. They are rude and do not do good work. I have 4 kids and 6 bikes, they just lost a lot of buisness..not a chance we will go back or reccomend.. read more

I bought a tube from here two weeks ago and felt I received some good advice on what my options were. I returned to get a tune up and replace all cables and the chain a week later. He ended up replacing the cables, chain and said I needed a new rear gear sprocket in order to shift smoothly. I agreed to the work at $130. He said he replaced the cables chain and rear gear sprocket. He said he put a seven gear sprocket rather than an eight gear sprocket. I should have rejected the repair then but accepted it with seven. He said the old one was seven. I have had the bike since it was new and it came with eight. The grip shift had eight positions. But I can't be positive it was still eight though it shifted to eight I believe. I took the bike and road it and could only shift it into third gear front sprocket by shifting the rear sprocket into first gear. So I called to schedule to take it back. He said not to worry he guaranties his work. To my surprise when I got a call to pick it up he said it would be another $30. He replaced two cables and the grip shift for the rear sprocket from an eight to seven position shifter. I explained that he did all the cables already and I didn't approve the grip shift replacement. He argued but told me to pay $25 instead and I could have my bike back. Now I think I know why he has some used bikes to sell as I suspect some have refused to pay for unauthorized repairs and left the bike rather than pay. I will not use Gilbert bikes again. read more

I went in to buy new tires and all of there tires are over priced. Maxxis tires they have are in the cheapest side they were asking 80 bucks for some tires that are not tubeless ready and if you go to a different store like REI the same tires are like 30 bucks. read more

I've had 2 experiences here. First experience was just purchasing parts I needed to get a bike running, and second was calling and asking a couple questions. First experience, they didn't have any v-lever brake handles for sale, and the older lady kept pressuring me I should buy a complete v-brake kit, and all I needed were the brake handles. Then when I asked if I could buy the handles they have, and if it didn't work, if I could bring them back. She said no. Anyway, after that the younger lady helped me out, and was nice the rest of the time. Second experience, I was inquiring services of breaking the 3 piece crank I have on a doner bike loose. And the older Hispanic man came to the phone, said they can help me remove it, but would charge $10. I asked back if I would buy 2 items I needed there (aprox $30 worth) if they would help me out, he quickly changed his mood and gave me quick yes, no, and before I could ask if they had the tool I can purchase, he hung up on me. Overall, when you really need something, know exactly what your looking for, and will walk out if they don't have it. It's a spot to try. If you want to come in asking questions and don't exactly know what you need.. I can see you having a headache. read more

Too funny! I came to Yelp to find a bike shop 'cause I sure as heck wasn't about to go back to Gilbert's Bicycles again, and then found all of these one-star ratings and cracked up. I soooo agree! Rude, rude, rude! My boyfriend and I went to Gilbert's customer-free store for my brand-new bike to be adjusted. It actually was a birthday gift from my boyfriend. Like nearly everyone else says, Gilbert and his awful wife (too funny, Amber!!) were obviously irritated to have a customer come across the threshold. Gilbert, I presume, quickly informed me that my bicycle was "cheap," and it was clear he was annoyed that I brought it in at all. I live in the area and I try to support local businesses as much as I can but I don't think I'll be a customer at Gilberts anymore. I recently bent my rim on my road bike and brought it to Gilberts to get it fixed. I walk in and talked to Gilbert (I assume) and he told me that it would be no problem to fix for x amount of dollars. I agreed and he fixed it in about 15 mins. Literally the next day I take my bike out for a spin and notice my rim is bent. Two days later I take it back to Gilberts and asked him to fix it again bec what ever he did the problem was not fixed and he said that I was going to have to pay again. I declined and left. Worst service ever! They hardly have any selection of bikes and parts. I came here today to buy some replacement 15mm nuts for my wheels. I show him my wheel and he takes it from me and takes it to the back leaving me to wait. he comes 5 minutes later and put new nuts on my axl and charge me $10. I didn't even tell him I was going to buy them for sure, I just asked if he had any my size. Although I did need them; I asked him if he can give me a better price because $10 is ridiculous for 2 nuts.. He starts to give me all this bs saying "may lord help you to find better prices than the one I'm giving you" as he does the sign of the cross.. Wtf? The owner is very rude and very hard to cooperate with. I don't recommend this bike shop one bit. If your in the area you can go to Performance Bikes. It's more complete and with better prices. First of all, I support the mom and pop shop, so I bought a road bike from here. The bike was fine. I'm a larger individual, so I asked Gilbert if he would sell me larger tires. He said that I didn't need them. I took his advice and rode the bike away. Needless to say my tires went flat. I went back, bought new tires, and they were great. I bought a pump with these tires. After a month I needed to add air to these tires. I used the pump I bought from him. The pump was of such a low quality it became stuck on my tire's valve, rendering my bike useless. Screw me once, Gilbert, shame on me. Screw me twice, Gilbert, and I guess I'm a chump for giving you a second chance. Only do business with Gilbert if you enjoy being left with flat tires and a deflated wallet. I would shop at WalMart before I shop here again. read more
