I recently moved to this neighbourhood and tried the Spanish bread. Very delicious I must say.

I think this is the best Filipino bakery in Elk Grove. Great selections! Great customer service! It doesn't matter what you get, it's gonna be delicious. I love their seniorita bread and Sio pao. Bread: 3.5 Out of 5 I enjoyed their fresh pan de sal (Filipino dinner rolls). So fluffy and light when they are fresh. Best thing is they are cheap! I usually get a dozen. I also had their Ube (taro) cookies and their chicken empanadas. Have to say that I'm not a fan of the Ube cookies bc they had a dough-y consistency which is not a cookie; however, I liked the chicken empanadas. Service: 4 Out of 5 Mom and pop store, so most of the people that have served me are the family members. They're all nice people. Overall 3.75 Out of 5 Small neighborhood place to come get your bread and other treats like how it is in the Philippines. Inside a couple tables but hopefully they can expand. Food wise I love their fresh pan de sal. Can't really vouch for the other items bc the prices I say isn't justified yet. I have high hope that the chef will improve on their recipes and eventually have a market so they can bring down the prices. read more

Ginelle's bakery on Bruceville is a independently owned Filipino bakery. This bakery is nested between two larger retailers in a little strip mall next to the Home Buffet. I needed a box with a variety of pastries and had never tried authentic Filipino baked goods before. The owner took his time to explain the various fillings and what items were most popular. He was also kind enough to offer samples of anything I needed to try. I loved the sweet coconut Ensaymada Macapuno rolls. The roll reminds me of a hot cross bun made with kings Hawaiian bread as it's not too sweet. And the filling was made with fresh coconut... One of my weaknesses in my boring little life. The owner/ baker sliced the larger buns into 4ths for me and carefully arranged them in a tissue paper lined box. As I was getting ready to pay he walked into the back of the bakery and came out with a warm Spanish bread that had just been taken out of the oven. He gave it to me as a sample and told me that most people call this "señorita bread." My taste buds were immediately snapped into a state of subliminal bliss. Giselle's Spanish rolls are amazing!!! They're coated with melty salty sweet butter and warm and fluffy inside... I will definitely come back for more :-) . Filipino bakery! Was next door to Kotteri Ramen so of course had to go check it out as they are my people and love senorita bread. They have their own version of the bread which was still tasty as my normal spot but maybe not as sweet. They have rolls filled with chicken adobo, pork adobo, corn beef, bbq pork so had to buy 2 of each. I took a few bites of each of the adobo rolls and seemed good enough but meat wAs cut small and not enough to get a good taste. Think best thing is to have adobo the traditional way over rice. Place is small but they have s big variety and even have hot food ready to go in the cases. The sweet man behind the counter was doing it all and was so sweet and helpful. read more

I was tempted to try this spot after driving pass the location many of times. Alas, this morning was the day! Didn't know which pastry to give a try so I went with a single Ube roll and a coffee. While running errands, I had my wife try out the Ube roll and as soon as she took a bite out of it; she screams, EWW! I assume it was distasteful but then she spit it out and pointed out mold on the bottom of the pastry. (Tried to eat within an hour of purchase and if she didn't take the first bite of the pastry backwards, she would have devoured it) "Day olds" should have been fine. I don't believe mold grows after a day. Being a "Bakery," most would expect freshly baked goods. In these trying times especially with small businesses, a normal person would believe emphasizing quality would be your best bet in achieving a recurring customer base. Inflation may have played a part in salvaging products for further sales or minimizing wastes, but serving old items (with mold) of which was broadcasted within your display case is not right by any means. read more

This place is more like a 4.5 star spot. It's a simple business, mostly baked goods, a few refrigerated filipino food items. One table for guests. Good for what it is. Quality is good. Price is fair. I happened to be in the area for a nearby salon and stopped in to Ginnelle's. Glad I stopped in. I ordered 4 warm Spanish rolls ($2), a box of 5 sio pao ($6), and a small container of dinuguan ($4). Hubby loved the Spanish rolls. I microwaved a sio pao this morning for breakfast. Not bad, but a little skimpy on the meat. But I was mostly surprised by the quality of the dinuguan. Very traditional. Lots of fatty pork. I personally like my dinuguan with a little bit more vinegar but it was perfect after adding a little bit pickled jalapeno juice in the dish. I'll def be back. Looking forward to trying other items from this little spot. read more

I was craving something sweet and happened to be in Elk Grove that day, I stumbled across a frozen yogurt place amongst other businesses at the end of a short walkway surrounded by a parking lot. I think I probably picked the wrong ingredients for my frozen yogurt because it didn't quite turn out, but I still had my sweet tooth. Then I stumbled across this Filipino bakery, so I go inside and start taking a look around. I got stuff for me and my boyfriend to try, Ube roll, a Polish dog in a blanket, Apple turnover, and a ham and cheese bun. Ube roll and the apple turnover were pretty good, the rest not so much. The ham and cheese roll had good bread, sweet kind of like the bread used for the Polish dog and for the Ube roll, but the ham inside was very cheap, and the Swiss cheese tasted processed. Which is literally the cheapest you can get. That ended up getting tossed, next what is the Polish sausage roll, it was just OK, again the meat tasted really poor quality. The Ube roll was kind of different, but in a good way. It's purple so I wonder if that's the natural color or if they added food coloring to make it so vibrant? Either way we both enjoyed those. The apple turnover was kind of your basic good, not great apple turnover. Maybe a quick toss in an air fryer would have re-crisped it up which would've made it better, but that's not their fault-it had likely been sitting around since the morning. If you're in the area and craving something sweet, I recommend the Ube roll and the Apple pastry. read more

Their seniorita bread is to die for!!! It's so good!! I munched four of it in the car on the way home. In my opinion, I think it tastes better than Star Bread. It's soft, fluffy, buttery and not as sweet. It's addicting. Only thing is it's bigger in size so four is equivalent to eight seniorita bread from Star Bread that means more weight gain for me. Customer service is great. Owner is helpful and very nice. Highly recommended. Funny how I always passed this bakery and never once I notice that it was there. I love this place! The first time I stopped by here was before my birthday dinner in the evening, and unfortunately the couple in front of us had bought all the spanish rolls so get them earlier in the day! The second time I was able to get a dozen and I literally ate them all in the car by myself, they were so good and so affordable! I tried some other pastries and they were also good, like the ube ensaymada. The pastries are huge and definitely worth the money! They're very filling though so I always have leftover to share, which is amazing. My favorite is the spanish rolls though. I don't think I can say enough about how much I love them. The owner was also really nice and I always see him working the cashier and he's never been rude or disrespectful. Even helped us use the microwave and suggested times for our pastries. Passing by saw the sign Bakery stopped in and was pleasantly surprised that it was a Filipino Bakery! Got some ensimadas, chicken-and pork adobo buns, turned around and biko on the shelf, my fave!!! Super disappointed! We live out of town and our friends always bring us like 6 dozen Spanish breads from here when they visit. I stopped in to pick them up while in town on Sunday and the guy went to the back to get them but took a long time. When he came back he handed me a nice box of warm bread. I brought them home and by the next morning they were ROCK hard! Knowing from the past they always stay soft in a bag for 2-4 days. I'm pretty sure he handed me a microwaved box of bread or it would have still been soft. They also usually get a little squished when they are fresh baked but they were perfectly fluffed up and rock hard. Bummed because I always loved them. read more

Happy that we have a Filipino Bakery here. Gives a small town feel to our big city. Love that! I like their Spanish rolls (bread that is rolled around a sweet buttery filling--somewhat like a glaze--that melts in your mouth; they're somewhat soft and not overwhelmingly sweet. Really love their pan de sal (dinner rolls), especially when you get them in the morning, fresh and hot from the oven. They are perfectly cooked, magical pillowy dough puffs all soft and squishy (you soft bread lovers know what I'm talking about here!) They can be eaten as is but a slathering of butter will do them no harm and make them extra tasty! I also really enjoy their ensaymada---soft bread topped with butter then sugar. They are also fluffy and squishy and taste a lot better than their pre-packaged counterparts (you know the brand, but I like those too). Ginelle's ensaymada are better because they're fresh and extra soft and don't have the hard processed cheese topping I'm not too fond of. But really, give them a try. Filipino or not, a bread lover is a bread lover whatever the ethnicity and this is some deliciousness that must be tried at least once. Items are affordable; the store is clean; the service is helpful and pleasant. My picks for a 1st timer: -hot pan de sal -ensaymada (regular) -Spanish rolls What I want to try next time: -adobo roll -cream cheese roll -kutsinta -carioca (if they make them) Note: I don't know if they make them here, but if you ever go and see carioca (fried sweet rice balls) on the menu, you must absolutely try them. I decided to visit Ginelle's Bakery for the first time, after seeing so many good reviews. I'd say that their yelp review rating is more reflective than the google rating (3.5 vs 4.3). I tried a mix of both their savory and sweet pastries to provide a proper review. They were all just "okay." The standout pastry is their spanish roll/senorita bread. Overall, this bakery is so-so, not bad, but not great either. I would only return if I had a very specific craving for spanish rolls/senorita bread, and nothing else. read more

The shop is small with limited offerings. I like that everything is individually wrapped. The senorita bread is less than good. I'm not going to lie, when I ordered it, I had a feeling the man behind the counter went into the back to reheat some old bread and dunk it in margarine sugar mix and pass it off as fresh. Gross! I'm an award winning baker, I know fresh when I taste it. Got some pineapple bread for my brother and he said it was really good. They also offer Filipino food but I only went to try the baked goods. Probably won't be back. Need to learn how to treat customers and maybe try upselling some of your products. It would make a difference and people would spend more $$$. After my godson's birthday party, I had a hankering for filipino sweets. Ginelle's was the closest bakery that met my needs. When we pulled in to the parking lot, the shades on the windows kinda threw me off because I wasn't sure they were open, but thankfully they were. I tried puto, biko, and kunchinta, and my godson got a bag of chicharron (which he gobbled up quickly!). The puto was okay but a tad dry. I didn't care for the texture of the kunchinta, and the shredded coconut it came with was sweetened and tasted a little powdery instead of the usual unsweetened stuff. I ended up not finishing it. The biko was good, and had pieces of langka in it which is unusual for me, but I like jackfruit so I didn't mind. Service was fine, nothing to write home about. I would come back for the biko, but not for the other items I tried. They do have a large selection of other treats such as breads and cookies. read more

I absolutely love this place! It was my first time here today. I walked in the store. I looked around to all the yummy pastries. I took about 10 minutes to decide what I wanted but the lady at the register was really patient. We strike a conservation. I couldn't decide on what I wanted to try, so I played it safe by ordering 10 Spanish rolls. They sold the Spanish rolls in increments of 5. The lady said the rolls are not too sugary and taste amazing. She said that she can eat 5 or more a day. It took the baker around 7 minutes to get it. I paid $4.25 for 10 rolls. Overall the Spanish rolls were hot and fresh. I took a bit of the sugary, sweet and fluffy bread. I ate three in a row. I would come here to try the other pastries! read more

I guess I wouldn't have mind giving this place 5 stars but after my two visits , I've realized that the lady up front has really bad customer service ! She's not friendly, she doesn't smile, she doesn't ask you if you have any questions , and she's not very welcoming at all . I get it, some people may think that employees aren't there to make friends or start a conversation but at LEAST present yourself in a way that will make customers want to come back . We immediately noticed how rude she was and just left . Now, I just recently noticed the halo halo sign outside and told my boyfriend about it . We were in the neighborhood today and he suggests we stop by and grab some halo halo . Upon walking in, I noticed the same lady from a few years ago was working . Again, still no hi or welcome . I spoke Tagalog to her and even started small talk to maybe soften her up a bit but, no luck . Customer service rating would be 1 star. We ordered the ube cookies, red velvet cookies . 3 of each flavor ensymada, hopia, and a halo halo. Let me just say that if these items weren't good , they wouldn't be getting 3 stars but since it was actually better than Valerios imo, they get 2 additional stars! Let's describe each item. Ube cookies - they had that distinct ube/ taro taste ( plus in my book) not just that mushy yam taste , it actually tasted good, very soft and chewy which i loved ! I would definitely be coming back for more. Red velvet - soft, chewy, no overwhelming cocoa taste . It was huge ! You could share with a few people! Ensymada- soft, creamy, not too sweet, and very delicious ! I've had ensymada where it'd just tasted like bread and sugar but ginelles ensymada was actually different ! Hopia- haven't tried it. I bought them for my mom and she said they were good though. Halo halo - savory still has the best . Ginelles halo halo consisted of way too much crushed ice , not enough ice cream, too much beans, one small piece of Leche flan, stale pieces of sprinkled rice crispies ( not even pinipig ? I came here out of curiosity because I have never been inside a Filipino bakery before. To my surprise, there was a sign near the cash register showing they have Halo-Halo here!! For those who do not know, halo-halo is a Filipino mix dessert with shaved ice, evaporated milk with various boiled sweet beans, jello and fruits, and served in a glass (usually with a scoop of ube ice cream on top!!!). When Gimmie Yogurt, the place that offered this dessert closed down, I was indeed sad... (Currently replaced by Quickly's). Thank goodness this bakery isn't much further down the street. Of the bakery items here, I have had the Spanish rolls, a tuna roll, and a chicken roll. The tuna and chicken savory rolls were not very impressive. It's quite plain but doesn't taste horrible either. I just wish it had more flavor packed inside. The sweet Spanish rolls are good though. If you want to use a box provided by them to order in bulk, there is a small fee. Owner here is always nice to me. There's still so many rolls and flavored bread that I need to try!!! Ginelle's is right next to a new-ish and currently popular poke restaurant, so I'm sure they will be benefiting from that proximity. I admit I would have never stopped in for the first time if it hadn't caught my eye while grabbing a sushi burrito. This looks to be a small, family-owned Filipino bakery. Alas, no seniorita bread, but perhaps they've got their own specialty. I bought two ube rolls for $1.99. The ube wasn't overly sweet, and the pastry tasted fresh, if a bit too moist for my preference. I'm thinking the rolls were packaged while still warm which caused the moisture. If you're in this strip mall and craving a sweet or looking to kill time, this is an okay spot to stop in. read more

I called ahead to reserve 12 Spanish rolls for a Mother's Day brunch. I told the man on the phone that I would need them in about an hour, and he said he would set them aside for us. When we went to pick them up, they had not been reserved and there were none available. There was no apology or any explanation, just a comment that we would have to wait 45 minutes until they were ready. We showed up at our brunch without them. This small mom and pop shop is one of the best and only places to get an authentic taste of Filipino baked goods in all of Elk Grove. From seniorita bread (Spanish rolls) to the fresh ube (purple yam), Ginelle's bakery has all the staples to make a Filipino feel at home. Similarly, with a wide variety of food available, there's always something here that anyone can love. I'm personally a fan of their hash filled rolls, butterfingers cookie, and pandesal! Probably the best part of all their goods is the fact that it's fresh baked daily so you know you'll be getting the best quality possible! I definitely recommend this place for anyone willing to try something new and delicious. It's perfect any time of day as there will always be something here to fit your taste. I've been wanting to try this place since it opened, and I finally did today. LOVE IT! I had the pancit, sweet banana roll, lumpia, enseymada ube (purple yam), and the pork adobo roll. All of them were excellent and I didn't feel sick afterwards like a lot of foods nowadays can make you feel. I brought some of the lumpia home for my mom as well and she liked it too. I'm posting a review solely for their señorita bread (Spanish rolls). I'm a die hard señorita bread fan, used to being spoiled eating bad at bakers (best bread IMO). I moved so I decided to try this place. I am used to Spanish rolls being warm, covered with buttery/sugary mixture on the bottoms. I was surprised when the ones I tried here were very bland/plain. I have been twice in hopes 1st was a bad batch, but it was the same- really plain/bland and some butter, not sugary or that sweet IMO. Lots of reviews say the same thing and now I see why. Some may like it, but compared to other Spanish rolls in Sacramento, these are on the plain side IMO. I wish they would cover in more butter/sugary goodness lol! Just a heads up for those who're expecting similar to Bad Bakers. read more

Great bakery for Spanish/Señiorita bread! I prefer these from this bakery against Stsrbread because they make the bread not too sweet and overly glazed with butter or honey. It has the right texture, sweetness, and salt level. It's bigger as well. I say I'll buy my Spanish bread from here from now on since it's so close to where I live. Note: They do charge 50 cents for the cost of the box for when you order 12 pieces. I bought 24 pieces for $12.50. Well-worth it and my coworkers all loved it. read more

If your into Filipino bakery go to Starbread or Valerio Bakery. You will be disappointed with this place. I bought the cinnamon, ube, and plain Ensaymada and Spanish rolls. Not what we expected. The Ensaymada were dry, no flavor to it. I could of make it at home with regular bread, butter, and sugar. The Spanish roll was buttery, didn't expect that. Some people like it buttery which is fine but it was way to buttery for us. So I guess it's on preference. There is is always a first and a last time, it's both for us in one try. My own conclusion is not recommend, drive another couple minutes to get better Filipino bakery you will be happier. read more
