We stop by Ginelle's Bakery at least 1-2 times a week; I definitely like the Spanish seniorita rolls here better than the ones at Star Bread Bakery. On our very first visit Noel wasn't very talkative but as we return more often he's actually very nice. I believe the man is either tired or that's just how he is. It doesn't bother us at all since the goodies here are amazing and he's slowly growing on us lol. We always grab a few dozen seniorita rolls, cinnamon rolls, and their halo halo is the best I've had hands down. Each ingredient is perfectly layered so if you scoop it up just right you'll get a burst and crunch of amazing goodness in your mouth each and every time. You know you've hit the jackpot when you bring a box of seniorita bread from here to gatherings and when people open up and see what's inside their eyes light up and everyone digs in. I'm so happy there's a Filipino bakery in Elk Grove! I grew up in Daly City and crave Filipino food regularly. I got a the ube Spanish bread, Ube ensaymada, pork adobo roll, and bbq pulled pork bun, and a halo halo. The bread was sweet and soft -so good! I have been here twice so far and every time I get the feeling that they want me to gtfo as soon as possible. I do not know where other customers are getting "friendly" service but for me customer service is non-existent. I walk up to the counter and it always takes forever for the person to acknowledge me because they are too busy chatting up their friends (who always seem parked on the single lone table in the bakery. No one says hello. They bark the price at me, give me the change, and that is it. Today, I bought an ube ensaymada, expecting spongy and buttery texture with a present ube flavor. It was old, and stale, which in hindsight I should have known because the rolls were enrobed in saran wrap behind the glass window. Where I expected ribbons of ube throughout the roll, I only had the occasional flecks of purple. I ended up tossing it and buying a donut from Java Time. Thoroughly disappointed, I do not think I will give this place another chance. Sacramento has excellent Filipino bakeries. Sadly, Ginelle's is not among them. read more

A friend told me about Ginelle's Bakery specifically for senorita bread. I called to place an order of 50 pieces and asked for it to be ready in 15 minutes and the man said yes of course. I arrived and it wasn't ready and it took him nearly 5 minutes in the back to get it. Oh my goodness! This place is absolutely awesome!! Stopped in after getting fro-yo just to see what they had and was totally overwhelmed by the selection of buns, breads and cookies! Got a corned beef and hash bun, ham and cheese bun and pulled pork bun. They didn't make it out of the parking lot, the kids and I smashed them down super fast. The next trip we bought two of almost everything but waited until we got home to warm them up. 20 seconds in the microwave is perfect. We go here at least once a week (twice, if the kids are good) for a great after school snack! read more

I like this place because it's so close to my house. The prices aren't bad and they do have a wide variety of buns, desserts, etc to choose from. I do like that the mother/daughter team were very patient with me. I was indecisive but wanted at least 10 buns. They answered my questions and were very friendly. Some of the buns were good such as the hot dog bun and some weren't such as the cream cheese bun (there was a huge piece of cream cheese in the middle so I felt like I was eating a block of it). I will come back again because it's conveniently located. My only recommendation is make sure you check the bottom of your buns for wax paper. They're easy to miss and don't chew well.... read more

They have a wide variety of Filipino pastries. As soon as you walk in the smell of fresh bread makes you want to buy all of it. I usually come here to get Spanish rolls and I'm never disappointed. The bakery is pretty small, so it's not a place to stay and hang out, a quick grab and go is what I recommend. The workers are very nice as well. I will never eat from here again. I ordered pastrys from here, they wrap each pastry in an individual wrapper. While I was eating the stuffed bread the center portion tasted like cleaning supplies. I instantly spit it out and threw up once the taste lingered in my mouth. Idk if it got into the filling, on gloves or hands that prepare the food, or if it was on the counter top but it was surely in the food. Not only is this place like 5 min away from my house (Operation FatASS will be in full effect) but it's freakin' delicious!!! I got the following: 1 Hot dog roll, 4 Ensaymadas (2 Macapuno 2 Regular), 2 Tuna Rolls (they were out of corned beef but that's ok it gives me a reason to go back), 1 Bread Pudding, and 1 dozen Pandesal, I mean 1 dozen pandesal was $2.25!! Last but definitely not least I got the assortment of Cassava Cakes for $4.99. I really can hear my dress getting ready to split at the seams as I write this review but whatever. Everything was good. The first time I heard about Ginelle's Bakery was from my cousin over the weekend. What put an interest in me was when I heard the owner has connections with another bakery in Waipahu, Hawaii! I was on my way to Kaiser when I remembered about it and made a pit stop today! So here's my review (I'll try not to make it toooooo long! Hehehe) FACILITY So as I entered the facility, there were quite a bit of people inside ordering their goodies. Of course, a Filipino local islander from Hawaii like me who knows about pastries and common Filipino breads, I was looking for some certain items. I know they just opened so I'm not really gonna say much about decor and such, but the facility lobby where ordering is well kept. They have some shelves where some day old items are sold. They also have a small cooler fridge for drinks if you want to buy something to drink with your pastries. The presentation cooler glass is big enough for people to see the items and select what they want. The space up front is just enough for people to order and leave. No place sit as I noticed, but really, that's okay. FOOD So I ordered the following items: Ensaymada Macapuno, Ensaymada Ube, Cheese Pineapple Roll, Spanish Rolls, and a dozen pandesal. I know that sounds a lot, but I just wanted to taste a bit. Lemme tell you! Pretty good! Pretty good! Fresh baked pandesal! Freshly made Spanish rolls all warm! I was told that they try to make fresh new batches every hour. That's good! Until then, I have yet to try the other items when I visit again. By the way, they also have other pastries and goodies that are not Filipino. They sell pies too! PRICE No complaints here! Just know that if you use your CREDIT or DEBIT card and spend under $10, you will be charged $0.50 per transaction. They were all nice and friendly, which I appreciate as a customer.! Excited to see a bakery on the way to Tops Yogurt, my family and I stopped to see what we can get. I've only been to bakeries in San Francisco so, in comparison, the selection looked pretty poor but I tried to get my niece (an eleven year old girl) excited about trying something there anyway. "Ooooh . . . what's cassava? Do you feel like being adventurous and trying some cassava cake?" I said. "I guess," she answered, uninterested in the baked goods in the shop (which is odd since my niece is a suger freak). The cashier overheard and began explaining that cassava was a root "that grows in the dirt" -- nice attempt but he wasn't really helping me spark my niece's interest. So, I ordered 2 cupcakes, a scone and a cassava cake and was informed that there would be a 50 cent charge for using a credit card since the $8 purchase was not enough to meet the $10 minimum. Not a problem, I had cash but, as I saw him put each cupcake in a bag (the bags were so small that the bag could not be closed and each cupcake could only be held by the base to prevent smashing it), I asked if there was any way he could box the product instead. "I don't have a box," he said. A bakery without a box, I don't think so: "How about the box behind you?" I said, pointing at the small boxes piled up on a shelf behind his head. "Oh, we charge 25 cents for that." he responds. Nevermind . . . it says a lot when a baker doesn't have enough pride in his craft to ensure that his goods are packaged properly to survive a drive home so that they can be enjoyed as originally intended. MAJOR EDIT! No longer a fan here. Their Spanish rolls and the quality and taste is all over the place. Not consistent at all. My last 3 batches were blah, blech. Not sweet. Bland. Not good. Sick of wasting my time and money here. I won't come back anymore. I also don't like the fact they have underage children working in this store and ringing up customers. It's like really? These poor kids stuck inside this tiny business when they should be at home being a child. Awful. Super delicious seniorita rolls. On my quest for Spanish Rolls, I found Ginelle's Bakery on Yelp and discovered they carried them. We called ahead to have some set aside some so we can bring to a family party. We were coming from out of town (30 min away) and they were nice enough to set 4 dozen aside for us. They were really warm but not the typical spanish rolls that we expected with the breadcrumbs dusted on top. They didn't have any breadcrumbs but instead had butter on the top of them which made them more greasy and they sort of stuck together making them look unappealing. The cashier mentioned they make theirs a little different which is not a bad thing but when you're expecting something a bit different, it's a bit of a let down. Flavor wise, they were tasty and they were nearly all gone by the time the party winded down which is a good sign--but if you've ever brought fresh spanish rolls to a party, they're usually gone before you even set them down on the table. For the spanish rolls alone, i'd give them 3 stars - and probably won't be my go-to bakery if in the area and need them again. read more

We just moved to Elk Grove last week and I was intrigued by their Spanish rolls which looked like my beloved señorita bread from Starbread, but I set my standard low because I didn't want to expect it to taste just like it and be disappointed when it didn't. However, I was pleasantly surprised because it tasted pretty close to it. The only difference is that these Spanish rolls had more of a buttery taste. It's different, but not bad. I also tried the chicken empanadas, the cream cheese roll, and the plain ensaymada. Loved the ensaymada but could live without the cream cheese roll. I don't prefer to sink my teeth into a block of cream cheese kthnx. People say they hate the customer service, but this isn't a sit-down restaurant. my co-workers and I visit this place 6 days a week (and our office is open m-f...figure that one out). I have 12 people in my work unit, and just about everyday a different person or group will visit in the morning or afternoon to pick up goodies to get us through the day. One time, I mentioned that they should have a frequent buyer program because some of the selections are too good to pass up even if we wanted to only by a cream cheese roll...it's impossible to pass up a spanish bread or pandesal. It's rare when the desk next to me isn't covered with pandesal, spanish bread, cinnamon roll, pineapple roll, and anything else that our hunger craves. It also doesn't help that it's a 2 min walk to get there. Everything there is delicious. The prices are super cheap. We get the butter/sugar roll and it's about the length/size of your arm for $1.70. We're able to walk out with 3 bags and only spend about $5. The bread is soft, chewy, and warm. I didn't care for their empanada...but only a speck on a beautiful masterpiece of delicious baked goods. read more

After stuffing my face with chicken wings, my friend and I were craving something sweet. I don't really see too many bakeries, or any at all, in Elk Grove so I figured I'd give this place a try. Maybe it was just that day but the shop seemed to be really dark, pretty unwelcoming. After browsing for a while my friend chose the cinnamon roll and I got the ube and coconut ensemada. I had a feeling the cinnamon roll wasn't going to be good judging from how pale it was in comparison to how brown its bottom was. Turns out I was right, it was dry, bland, and the cinnamon inside didn't taste like anything special at all. I tried to ensemadas next and both barely had any filing inside . I was pretty disappointed because the pastries looked so light but ended up being very dense. All the flavors were bland and the ube inside had a very strange neon purple color to it. Maybe the other pastries they have are better but these were pretty bad. I would not recommend this place if it were an older business but since they're very new, I'd say give it a try, maybe the pastries will get better. read more

It's my first time coming to this bakery. Got really excited when I saw that it was a fil-am bakery in elk grove. I walked in there this morning, it's a cute little bakery. Unlike Valerios and starbread it didn't smell like a bakery. The reason I came today was to try their chicken siopao and Spanish rolls. Well they were out of the siopao so I got the pork asado instead, it was alright. Got the tray of 6 'little' for $5. Very little meat and the bread had no taste. I would rather pay the same price for 4 big ones. The Spanish rolls were ok. I got 5 for $2, the lady went to the back to get it so I was assuming they were gunna be fresh, but they weren't. Should've got the 1 day old ones that were sitting on the side for $1. I also picked up the ube roll and cream cheese. Let's just say I won't be getting those again. Matter of fact, I don't think I'll ever come back. I would rather go to Valerios and starbread knowing that its fresh and that they actually bake their goods that same day. read more

Was having poke next door (good, but not great poke place btw), and decided to stop by because I've always wanted to. I never wanted to go outta my way because the yelp reviews were so low.. But I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The lady wasn't incredibly nice, like some Filipino grandma, but she certainly wasn't rude at all. As a half breed, she even asked me if I had ever had pandesal before as I attempted to purchase it. I may be whitewashed, lady.. but I'm not THAT whitewashed. I also ordered 10 Spanish rolls(known as señorita bread at other places) for $4, and those things...are magnificent. Buttery, sweet heaven. The people were really nice, and the place was crowded! I thought I'd give the place a chance, especially with the big sign in the window advertising Halo-Halo drink/dessert now that the weather is warmer. The Halo-Halo was disappointing, it was definitely lacking the red bean, jackfruit, macapuno and gulaman at the bottom. Instead there was boba (sago?), banana, ube, leche flan, and ube ice cream along with the shave ice and syrup. It was really sweet, with not enough milk to make it creamy. I will definitely make the drive to Chowking next time I get such a craving. As for the pastries, I have tried the pan de sal, cream cheese roll, and want to try the guava roll...but if I'm at Seafood City anyway, then I'd rather go to Valerios or Starbread. My coworker ALWAYS brings goodies from this place to work and I fell in love. My favorite is the pineapple bread, it's soft and in the middle are chunks of sweet pineapple and a sweet syrup-like sauce that compliments the bread very well. It's a pretty big portion for a pastry. The señorita bread is just okay, I could get better ones from Star Bread. There's a gentleman that works there and is very helpful and friendly. My boyfriend took me here for the first time. He told me that this bakery was based off of the one from Hawaii. Which it is, the owners know each other and basically partnered up if I remember what the woman had told me. So we decided to come by. The first time we came, we've tried majority of the items here. My most favorite, the Spanish rolls. So sweet once you bite into it. We had a few others, I don't quite remember the name--they were pretty good also. The only thing is, it's not something I would crave out of the random all the time. But I do think it's good. But only in the heat of the moment. Because they won't taste as good if you take them home. It's pretty hard to eat it later. So if you order you have to eat it right there and then to get the full satisfaction. read more

Came in by myself on a Sunday morning around 8:15am. Even though they were open early I can tell they were still baking, at least I know it was fresh. Food: I had a cheese bread and chicken empanadas and both were fresh, so fresh they came out of the oven/pan. The cheese bread tasted great, it is like a mix of just regular cheese bread with cream cheese filling in the middle, and sugar on top like an ensaymada. The chicken empanadas were excellent. The outside was not as greasy and oily as some other empanadas. Good texture, did not crumble and does not seem to sog. The filling was also very meaty, not as much as sauce which is good for me. One of the more filling empanadas I had. Location: Small bakery but cozy. They do have indoor seating for eating, but only 4 seats. Parking is also plentiful but it is in a plaza shared with other businesses. Overall: Would come back and wanted to try their other baked goods. They also have catering which I wanted to try as well.
