A few of my friends recommended this spot and I'm glad I finally came! They have a beautiful and bright ambience inside. I was there on a Monday for lunch so it wasn't that busy, there were about three other tables. We had the vegetarian spring rolls as an appetizer, the rolls were large and tasted fresh. I got the beef pho combo (brisket and eye of round), and the brisket was delicious! There was lots of red onion in the pho and the waiter brought chili oil and scallions on a side plate as an option to add in (yum!). I definitely recommend getting the beef brisket pho. My friend got the lemon grass chicken sandwich and enjoyed it as well. I love butterfly pea so I got the lemonade, it was great and refreshing. Honestly, a lot of pho places I've been to in New York City (native New Yorker) have either went up in price or has dipped in quality and/or quantity. But Ginger and Lemongrass has hit the spot every time I've visited. There are about 8-10 tables in the place, maybe more. And they do have outdoor dining. Went here for lunch around 12 PM with a few friends and we were seated immediately. All the times I've been here, I've only ever ordered the spicy lemongrass soup. You don't really find this at many pho places. This hits the spot every time. If you're a decent eater, I would definitely recommend getting the large rather than the small portion. One thing I did notice during this visit was that there were no fried spring rolls on their menu anymore. It would come with your choice of shrimp, or pork w/ mushroom, or vegetarian. The shrimp ones were bomb. But I didn't see it on the menu anymore. Either they got rid of it, or they only serve those during dinner. Will have to check again. So to substitute for that appetizer, we ordered the summer rolls with shrimp. First time I've had summer rolls with mango in them. New experience, not bad. If you like mango, you might like this. But I'd definitely prefer the fried shrimp rolls. I'd definitely recommend coming here. If you live far from Whitestone, I think it's well worth the trip to try it. Parking should be relatively easy during lunch hours and also during the later evening hours (approx. 8 PM +). I'm not sure about any other time. Looking forward to coming back again! read more

This is such a lovely place! The decor is nice. I love their cucumber mint water. The appetizers are a little pricey ($10-$11) , but sooo delicious. I got the tuna seaweed roll and the summer rolls! The tuna seaweed roll is so refreshing with mango, raw tuna, soba noodles and lettuce. The roll has the same rice paper wrap used for traditional summer rolls. It is served with a tangy sauce. I love that the shrimps in the summer rolls are juicy and plump. The summer rolls are served alongside a peanut sauce. Both orders are two rolls cut in half. The pork belly buns come in a pair and are so tasty. Inside the steamed white bun are sliced cucumber, preserved daikon, carrot and a big chunk of pork belly. The pork belly is vibrant and has a butter-like texture. I would highly recommend it! I also enjoy the drinks here! The ginger lemonade has a strong ginger kick to it. The thai tea isn't too sweet , and is also free with a Yelp check-in. We also got the turmeric tea pot and it can serve about 3-4 people. The turmeric tea contains a touch of ginger, turmeric and cinnamon, none of which are overpowering. It's very balanced, and a great addition to the meal. It's also served in a beautiful glass tea set! I absolutely love the spicy coconut lemongrass soup! In addition to having a low spice tolerance, I don't normally enjoy spicy foods. However, the spicy coconut lemongrass soup is too good. It is rich in flavor, the coconut milk helps balance the spice and they give you a lot of huge pieces of shrimp. I've never been to a pho restaurant with anything close to it. This is something you must get, even if you don't normally do spice! The Thai mint salad is decent. The mint makes it very refreshing. I tried a few banh mis, beef pho, summer rolls with shrimp. I do like these Americanized banh mis cuz they're just so tasty. I ordered pork belly for L and cod fish for me. Both were very good. The bread is fantastic compared to JoJu's hard bread that can cut your mouth, this was great. Sure the sandwiches aren't cheap but neither are most places nowadays. My banh mi had a lot of fish. I was so full from half a sandwich and half a summer roll. It could've used more Mayo, maybe some butter. Lil spice. The summer roll was just okay but L liked it. Lots of veggies. Wasn't a fan of the peanut sauce used. I prefer a Thai peanut sauce, this was too thick, didn't taste good. The beef pho was good for a beef noodle soup. Was it really flavorful, no, but for me I was happy with it since it wasn't as salty... The meat came raw and I reheated the broth hot enough to cook the meat thoroughly. This restaurant is a great place for Pho. The decor is a vibe and there is enough space for large groups. My group of 10 was seated for Sunday lunch and the restaurant was very accommodating. The waitress and servers were friendly and did their best to get everyone's orders correctly. This restaurant has the typical beef pho bowl but also unique homemade elements to it. They have homemade spicy chili oil which is served on the side but also in the spicy beef pho soup bowl. Their spicy curry pho bowl is also worth trying. Each soup pho bowl is unique in flavor. They're all worth trying! My only complaint of this restaurant is how slow our food came. I have been to this restaurant multiple times and it has consistently been a bit slower than I'd personally prefer. We waited about 30 minutes for our entrees to come out. I would think pho would not take long to make. I would probably return for the food because the quality is great here and consistent. I love the small touches they have in everything. My friend first introduced me to this Viet shop in Whitestone. Now, it has become one of my favorite shops in Whitestone and I've also introduced my friends to this place as well. When I first came here, I found this store to be quite unique 1) They only serve vegetable/fruit infused water 2) All the staff members/waiters are all non-Asians 3) They serve an optional bone marrow with your soup-based entrees, which is apparently quite a popular addition to consider. 4) They serve their unique lemongrass soups (spicy or coconut spicy) But the real reason why I keep coming back is 1) My personal favorite Spicy Lemongrass Soup! It is in fact quite spicy (don't say that I didn't warn you), but not so overwhelming terrible. The taste/flavor is very good. I would highly recommend it to those who like spicy soups and even though who would want to attempt to try a good flavorful spicy soup. I've tried the pho here, but this particular entree is honestly my go-to every time. 2) Their weekday (Mon-Thurs) lunch special deal. The Pho and all their noodle soups here always comes lukewarm. I like my Pho piping hot. I have no idea why they do that. The soup base is very inconsistent. When it's good it's good, but when it's an off day it's bland. They do have good lunch specials, which is why I come. The shrimp spring rolls are delicious with whole shrimp in the middle. The green curry with mussels comes with a side of bread or rice is good. The mussels are huge and juicy, but it takes them 15-20 mins to make this. This is only based on our take out experience. I'm kind of on the fence. For me, this is more of a three and a half star review, but I upped it to four because my husband loved his meal, and my dislike had more to do with my dislike of the flavoring they tend to use in Vietnamese soup (I think in this case it was nutmeg) than the food itself. We wanted something Asian and something quick. I don't love Pho, but Jayson wanted something healthy and we found him a kick-ass salad here, called the Thai Mint Salad: Bok choy, lettuce, English snow peas, cucumber, mint, watermelon radish with fresh lime dressing. He LOVED it. And he can be a bit of a difficult foodie. I had the Large Vietnamese Beef Soup: With rice noodles, thin slices of rare beef, julienne scallion and cilantro in a slow simmered and spiced beef broth. Side of beans sprouts, Thai basil, jalapenos and lime wedge. The meat was fresh. Presentation great. I'm just not crazy about the spices used in the broth, but that tends to be with Vietnamese soups in general as I mentioned above. Came here Sunday afternoon for lunch. The service is 5 star from an Indian gentleman and another Asian lady. Very attentive and extremely friendly. regarding the food...I'm not sure if this is a fusion place but I found their beef pho to have an odd flavor. Nothing similar to the traditional pho taste. Also the beef was not served raw instead it was fully/over cooked. And no cilantro, basil or anise flavor. The fried spring rolls were not the smaller rice paper deep fried egg rolls. Instead they are the full size Chinese style egg rolls with the Chinese egg roll wrappers. Got the shrimp/chicken. Tasted ok but was expecting something different. The appetizers ranged from the varieties of spring rolls, entrees ranged from noodle dishes/ banh mi and the drinks consisted of Vietnamese ice coffee/ Thai ice tea or a fruit drink. Their spicy lemongrass noodle soup is very flavorful and so are their banh mi's (albeit the banh mis are on the pricier side at 10 dollars). New digs for Ginger and Lemongrass. The Beef Pho with the Roasted Bone Marrow was always the main draw here. It's a unique combination and portion size is good. It's a great dish when the weather is cold and the body needs some TLC. On a recent visit, the dish was missing one of the toppings but largely that has not been the case. There are thick slices of chicken in the chicken pho but even though that is the case, the chicken is too dry. The broth however, doesn't disappoint. There is a hint of sweetness in the broth combined with the cilantro, bean sprouts, sliced onions, jalapeños and chili oil, just really good. The Banh Mi sandwiches are also really tasty. The crusty sandwiches with fresh veggies are filling with the pork belly a favorite. Having said that the Beef Pho is unique, $20 for a bowl of Pho w/Bone Marrow and $10 appetizers is really a bit much for suburban Whitestone, NY. The appetizers here are generally lacking pizazz (-relative to the Pho), are nondescript and petit. Hard to say I've ever turned down a fried spring roll but the filling for this chicken and mushroom version is too salty. There just isn't enough on the plate to justify a price point north of $30 for complete appetizer/entree meal. These new digs are very much an upgrade from the prior place. I've always loved Bahn Mi, but pho never seemed appealing to me. I made the mistake of never trying pho because I hate ramen, and I made the ignorant assumption that the two were similar. My sister, brother-in-law and I visited Ginger and Lemongrass for the first time, and my sister was adamant on having me try pho here. I was apprehensive but I saw they had Bahn mi and wings so I knew I'd be ordering that. They give you infused water, and I started with an Aloe Lemonade which was surprisingly refreshing - almost tasted like lychee. For apps, we started with steamed pork buns + sticky wings. The buns were delicious and paired with the sticky wing sauce - it was even better. Those wings were to die for and I'd go back just for those! They're fried and perfectly crisped, well sauced and beautifully garnished. Absolutely amazing. For entrees, my sister + brother in law both ordered pho: BIL: Spicy broth with pork Sister: Beef broth with a bone marrow Both were absolutely amazing and so different. My sister's was slightly sweet, spicy and sour, while my brother in law's was spicy! Those jalapeños are a great touch and I'm literally salivating typing this out. The noodles are yummy and the meats melt in your mouth! I ordered a pork belly bahn mi which was AMAZING. Half filled me up, and so I brought the other half home (with extra wing sauce - yes I asked). I came home later again at 4am, looking forward to my sandwich and it was still amazing, and honestly maybe even better. So amazing. after multiple times here, i believe their quality has gone down. ive tried the following over the last year: 1) sandos (codfish, grilled pork, chicken, brisket) 2) noodle soups (spicy lemongrass, viet beef) 3) drinks (thai, viet blend coffee, viet ice coffee) 4) apps (summer roll, spring rolls) their lunch specials ($15 on Uber, $14 on seamless) seem like great deals but you get smaller quantities of everything with lackluster ingredients. for example, the drinks they offer is a kid size (think MCD kid meal size). the soup they provide with the noodles is 16oz but its usually only 70% full. another diff with their food delivery on those apps is UBEReats only has 3 soup choices (veggies, chix, beef) while seamless has a few more variants. my biggest issue about the place is the sandwiches. ive tried a few of their sandwiches and i feel like it just does not warrant being a good sando. the reasons are the bread isnt toasted, the protein filling is usually equal parts fat/meat, burnt, or lacking in quantity of meat consistency to bread, bean sprouts are added (?? doesn't add much effect for me), and the pickled veggies are not as pickled to give a contrasting / offsetting effect. in my latest venture with the sandos, i chose the grilled pork one and half of the meat was just chunks of FAT and or burnt. after i removed the fat, there were only like 1.5 bites of meat and it just wasnt gra ive seen it be a quaint cute date spot for first timers based on the reviews here but im not sure if it warrants multiple visits anymore unless you live close by. read more

If you're from the west coast, you know what good pho taste like and know that New York cannot compare to that. This is probably the best pho I've had in New York. Although it can't compare to west coast standard, it'll do the job if you're craving pho. They also had this ube cheesecake that was really good.
