Coming from Texas, I was impressed with the amount of healthy food options in SoCal, so perhaps this is something people in California are used to. The looks: It's small and cozy, and there's a glass display full of cupcakes and delicious fresh breads made in the house. In the back, there's a little market, as promised. Everything is unique and perfect for the soul looking for something that looks genuine and from the heart. The food: Sandwiches don't sound super unique, but these are each individually crafted. The prices are pretty decent. One word of caution--if you order a sandwich suspend expectations. I picked some ingredients out because I wasn't used to them, but maybe they're a thing in Cali. The chicken pot pie also was a bit surprising but tasted so real. The service: Absolutely great. The ladies making the food were nice and clearly loved working there. Very cute neighborhood cafe. Had the tuna sandwich and bought a soda and tortilla chips for $11. I would say that's about standard for lunch. I came here as a recommendation and ordered over the phone. My order was ready when I got there, and my sandwich was ok. I would recommend no mayo in the tuna which has mayo already in the tuna. I love this little sandwich spot. It's quaint and charming, and the shop is filled with sweet little kick-knacks, a refrigerator of milks, and baked sweets of the day. They also have a small amount of cute outdoor seating available. They offer a good variety of simple sandwiches, served on all kinds of breads and paired amazingly with their house pickles, and sauces or jams. The Ham and Brie sandwich is amazing; and the only change I would have made in ordering the Roast Beef sandwich would be to ask for it toasted. I'm giving this two stars because this place has so much potential. There are three things that I think taste very good. They are the the lattes, the chopped wedge salad and the chicken salad sandwhich. Some of the baked goods are excellent, but it is a complete hit and miss. Some of the cakes can be dry. Having said that, I'm all done trying this place. The rude, boderline hostile staff must be purposeful as they are all equally so. They do not care if your order takes a hundred years, if they ran out of the food you ordered and forgot to tell you, or if there hostility has made you too intimidated to ask about the lovely baked items that they cannot be bothered to label. It is a bummer because I would love to walk here from work all of the time. I just don't have the time or energy to give this place a shot again. read more

Had a great pastrami on rye...they added coleslaw, first for me. It was very good. It isn't a Jewish deli, but tasty. She made it with love. I feet it. Yummy. They also stock retro style toys. Cherry Pepsi in a bottle, pastries, can't go wrong. The received a four star because of the darn dogs. It shouldn't be a petco. I have a GSD, therefore, it isn't like I am against them. I was able to go in and get an iced latte with almond milk. It was well priced and tasted great. I think this store has so much potential! Stumbled across this place on my morning walk and was overwhelmed with a comforting feeling as soon as I walked in the door. Growing up in a small town, stores like this that were family operated and quaint were the norm and I immediately felt a sense of calm. The food has been absolutely amazing every time I have gone. I highly recommend the Apple cinnamon breakfast sandwich, SO GOOD! Anyways this place is a hidden gem with a charm that other chain coffee shops or "trendy" spots will never be able to match. This place is delicious. It's my go-to sandwich place in the area. The BLT is to die for and their special sandwiches are fantastic also. Today I had a special pot roast sandwich, which was a hot sandwich with shredded beef, cheese, some kind of onions, and herb mashed potatoes. My girlfriend said I couldn't stop nodding at my own sandwich; that's how good it was. Also, the pickled sides, great. And make sure to save room for dessert. I personally love any of their bread puddings warmed up. If I'm getting the BLT, I save some bacon pieces to have with my bread pudding. It's a delicious combo. We came here for a little snack. It looks like a family own market and restaurant. They have special sammi everyday, so we ordered the house special sammi and blackberry mint lemonade. The drink was good, neither too sweet nor too sour, I like it, plus it's free refilled, it's just $2, who doesn't like it. Unfortunately, they forgot our order :( until I asked. The lady came over and gave us cookie as apology. (The cookie was not bad, very soft). The sandwich was turkey Reuben which was mediocre, not very impressed, we felt the gas after eating it. Tried again. The iced coffee tastes delicious. The people I brought liked the charming atmosphere However, it's like they train their staff to have no charm and force them to guess what the pastries are based on appearance. Last time I went, they didn't know what flavor of cake they were selling. This time was worse. Here's how today went: I went to the counter three seperate times over the course of a couple hours for coffee and then a scone and to buy a coffee and cookie for a friend who joined me. Over the course of the morning, three different young employees were present. From the first employee, I sensed no hostility, but no desire to to acknowledge you with a hello. She was almost pretending that I wasn't there waiting to order. I said hi and she nearly walked past the register without replying. She eventually stopped but never replied. The second employee seemed to have no will to live. I asked what flavor the scone was. She told me it was maple walnut. I ordered it, bit into it and immediately tasted a different flavor. I thought it was ginger and rosemary and told her so. She scowled at me and told me it was maple walnut. I pointed her to observe the piece of candy ginger and the lack of walnuts. She said, "Oh did you want maple walnut?" implying that I had the option of just eating that one. "Yes," I replied. She then told me with a scowl that it wasn't ginger and rosemary it was just ginger and then threw it away. No apology for the mix up though she got the maple walnut for me. The whole experience in her mind was obviously completely my fault. (By the way, this is dangerous for people with allergies. If this had been reverse someone could have ordered ginger and had walnut). Around this time my friend comes in and he waits to inquire about a cookie. The second employee and a third just continue to ignore us standing right in front of them and walk back and forth around the tiny kitchen in plain view. Finally the second employee comes back and we order the cookie. Maybe I'm too old school, but it seems like the charm of this place is completely defeated by the atrociously unfriendly, unmotivated, easily irritated staff. I seriously feel bad for the owner, except that he/she could easily suggest some customer service standards. Or maybe he/she is seriously underpaying them and they are feeling dreadful every day? It's just not the vibe you want from a cute shop by a bright sunny park. I want this place to stick around as it has potential. My hope is the owner reads this and helps to train the young folks that work there. read more

Ginger's family market. Right next to Grant Park! This is a great little country store! It has had a complete redo from the old sandwich shop that's had been here since I was a Kidd called Eddies Market. The all new Gingers has a very homey feel to it. You can get a home cooked meal from friendly owners Liz and Linda, a Mother Daughter team and their nice employees who are also sisters! The fresh baked cookies, and breads & pastries are always good, and many times great! The baked goods change daily depending on owner Liz's whims of the season, but there's always something good! The sandwiches and salads everything is fresh made like the side salads that come with every sandwich. My favorite sandwich is the BLT with a fried runny egg, dripping down all it's golden deliciousness after they slice it in two! They make the BLT with a brown sugar spicy glaze bacon made daily too! Lots of good stuff to find everyday. It's also a great place to take the kids with Grant park right across the street. Or take your food there and enjoy the park on a sunny day! Absolutely exquisite experience! Went here with my boyfriend today after he nearly pled that I give it a try. Let me make this clear, I do not like sandwiches, but Ginger's sandwiches are from another planet--of divinity! I ordered the ham and brie with grilled fig on sourdough and was pleasantly surprised when the sandwich arrived and the brie was freshly melted (not congealed like 99% of other places): absolutely ooey gooey, dripping into the virtually weightless thickly sliced sourdough and subtly subduing the bitter crunch of fresh arugula. The fig balanced out the flavor quartet with a barbecued sweetness. I only ate half the sandwich (wanting to save the other half for an afternoon snack I could savor in private ecstasy), and one of the workers promptly offered to wrap it for me to go. When she returned I saw an egg nog cookie neatly tucked into the bag and my smile could not be contained! Hours later, I have finished my sandwich which was even yummy cold from the fridge. This may have made the cookie a little tough but that's ok with me as it was para gratis after all. My lone criticism is that for the 20 minutes in the cafe there was no music playing which created a bit of an awkward interplay from the quiet sounds of the kitchen and our rustling of deli papers. The gorgeous layout and fascinating merchandise helped keep us comfortable and soon enough some light music came on the speakers. I'm coming back tomorrow in the hopes that there will be more Beer & Cheese Soup that I didn't get to try but was on the menu today--sounds unbelievable, but I'm hoping it is just as incredible as the rest of my experience at Ginger's Corner Market. read more

It was my first time, so I walked past the counter to their market. Filled with more gluten-free snack options than you've ever seen within 30 square feet. But, by the time you feel overwhelmed by all of this healthy hummus, chia chips and so on, the amazing scent of what's cooking punches you in the face and makes you want to head to the counter and order something! Maybe I just came on a great day... Such a gem! I love coming to Ginger Corner Market for a sandwich and unusual drink. Tucked away across from a park (with a very nice playground) this business is something you would expect to find in a small town along the older stretches of Route 66. Simple and delicious sandwiches and salads as well as pastries and some cakes, all baked fresh in-house. The fridges have a nice selection of beverages along with some craft sodas and ginger beers. The back of the market has some shelves with candy, whimsical gifts & small toys. About 6 tables indoors and additional tables on the sidewalk. This is absolutely my favorite lunch spot in the area by FAR. Their food is fresh, delicious, and affordable for the quality that you get. The coffee is also absolutely amazing. I always get a BLT with an egg on it and it gives me LIFE. I don't know what they do to make the bacon taste so amazing but it's addicting. The pickled veggies on the side are also a nice touch. I really really want to love this place. It's in my neighborhood and we have ridden our bikes here three times now and every time I've given it a blank slate. The best part is the cute little store in the back. I can't bring myself to go back any time soon because of our experiences. The waitresses have spent the last two trips here gossiping so loudly like high schoolers that we couldn't even enjoy our lunch. They were not personable and rushed and just gabbed on and on so loudly. The food really isn't very good either. The kale salad is really bad. Bitter and I usually love kale salads. I tried the Brie and ham last time I was there and none of the Brie rind was cut off so I ate a lot of wax and had to take apart the sandwich to eat it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Walking into Ginger market takes me a step back in time back when neighborhood establishments were the norm and the friendly people who operated them were your friends. No corporate planning here. Ginger Market is down to earth and the coffee and food here is as wonderful as all the other the positive reviews claim. When I stop in I normally have the turkey sandwich and an awesome bacon brownie when they're available. When I need some sweets I come here. When I need a good lunch I come here. Coffee on the go? I come here. When I need drinks or snacks for the nephews and nieces I come here, etc. Lots of other little "gifty" items around the shop too. I was feeling super lazy to get food and deal with parking. So I remembered passing this place by and bookmarking the business. Ginger corner market is located in a residential area across the street from a park. So, thanks to my laziness I decided to give this place a try. The parking is super convenient and there was plenty of spaces. I made a to go order for the ham and brie sandwich with white figs and a tomato soup. The savoriness from the ham and aoli sauce, creaminess from the brie cheese, and sweetness from the figs really worked nicely together. The soup gave everything a nice acidy taste. My meal was delicious and everything was fresh. I am planning to come back. Inside the cute store, they sell wine, beverages, knick knacks like jewelry, cards, wine, etc. I was too hungry to look around. So I cant wait to come back. This store is so darn cute! It took over the old Eddie's market and re-vamped it into this quaint vintage eatery across from a park. It's tucked away ... only noticed by locals and spread through by word of mouth.... if there were anything that should have "hidden gem" on it, it's this place. They serve sandwiches *hot & cold*, salads, and baked goods. On the side, they retain the old market feel by selling local and hard to find candies, drinks, and ice cream (from Mother Moo's and Pops). Local art work hangs on the walls. It's a place to pass time. The space is light and airy with a good amount of study / hang out space. Onto the food... I ordered a cold beef sandwich and a small pistachio merangue(?) cookie. The cookie had a nice chew to it, but it was really too sweet for my liking and stuck to my teeth. The cold beef sandwich was pretty good. It wasn't the best, but it was a solid sandwich. Apparently, it has a bit of horseradish spread that I could not taste. I like Fiore Market Cafe's rendition of it (in S. Pasadena) better. 3 stars for food. Overall, cute place.
