Really?? How can this place have so many stars?? Maybe I was just unlucky... I had a pizza with mushroom and home made sausage, the worst pizza I ever had in nyc. Not cooked well, so heavy, way too much cheese, couldnt eat it. My husband who loves pizza and no matter what he would always eat it, could only eat 1 slice, so we left the whole pizza, that's how bad it was. The guy baking it was Filippo. The service was extremely poor. Our glass was dirty with lipstick, we pointed it out and the waiter passed a napkin on it.. And that was it! Really??? The other waiter placing cutleries on the table was picking them up by the side you eat with!!! That's like the ABC of WHAT NOT TO DO! Not too sure about how well and clean the kitchen is kept at this point... And that thought won't make me want to go back there ever again unfortunately. It's a shame... It looks like this place had a lot of tradition from its early days with the real mr. Gino, too bad the current management cannot keep it up. -- TIP: Be careful! First Yelp review, yet felt compelled to write for Gino's. Extremely rude. I have witnessed the guy behind the counter do everything from throw temper tantrums when it's busy, to show extreme disrespect to an elderly lady. Have shown up on time for an order called in, which obviously was never started and waited 20 minutes without so much as an apology, thank you, anything...ever. Food is average on a good day. I've been in New York 9+ years, I don't care how much of a neighborhood staple or how old school you think you are: you show your customers who keep you in business appreciation. I've been going to this restaurant for many years, and for many years I've enjoyed the food and ambiance of the small, local Italian restaurant as my introduction to the Upper East Side and NYC. For years I have loved this place, but for some reason the past couple of times I've gone there it seems as though the food and service has gone downhill. I really don't know what happened. As an Italian, I understand I can be very picky with Italian food. But, there are some basics that I believe restaurants should live by. For starters, invest in a better olive oil. Good olive oil should be rich and creamy tasting. Their olive oil tastes live they added water to the bottle to make it last longer. Second, why is it so hard to make pasta AL DENTE? Especially if you request it? Pasta shouldn't fall apart when you cut it or go to spear it with your fork. It should be slightly firm, not hard, but firm. That's how pasta was made to be cooked by Italians. I guess that annoys me more than anything with this restaurant. I'm going to have to find another local restaurant, I guess. The grandma pie is great and the people are generally OK. However, the delivery times are ridiculous. If you order from this place, expect to wait an hour and a half for your food to arrive - then when you call to ask where you food is, they act like you are unreasonable for questioning why it has still not arrived. While I think the food here is good -- the staff is extremely rude. When you just want to order a slice and relax for a quick lunch, the people working behind the counter treat you like an inconvenience. I don't know what everyone is talking about re: the delivery. We got delivery for the first time tonight after several visits to the restaurant and the phone was answered quickly, the woman I spoke with was very friendly, and we didn't wait long for the food, which was hot and perfect when it arrived. Some places skimp on portions when it comes to take out vs sit down, but we're both legit in food comas from our dinners. Other firsts tonight included the stuffed artichoke appetizer (garlic/ breadcrumb filling, like baked clams), and the chicken Marsala, both of which were ridiculously awesome. read more

we have been regular customers every week with few exceptions. However, it seems that Gino's has their own favorites and even though there were two tables available we were told to take the table near the door since the other table was reserved. It was extremely cold near the door and customers were constantly going in and out and baby carriages crowded the passage way. After waiting about half an hour the couple with the reserved table arrived and at that point we walked out!. We will not frequent this restaurant again since some customers appear to have more clout than others1 Also it seems that you have an hour to eat your meal since we were told to leave on one occasion since we had exceeded our hour. Also bringing appetizers and main courses at the same time did not bode well with us. read more

Been here a few times both during the winter and summer. Always crowded which is a good sign some even look like regulars which is a extra good look. Love there pasta sauces, it's a good sign when you want bread to scoop up the leftover sauce. I've never tried the pizza but the reviews make me want to next time. During the summer they have about 3 or 4 tables outside. We sat outside one occasion and they accommodated my well behaved 3lb pup with some cold water n some veggies that he likes to eat which I'm sure is not the normal thing to do there but the lady not sure if she was the owner or manager was super nice chatted with us off and on till we left. I moved out of the city in 1998. I return today with my wife and my son. After many years of claiming Gino's was the best ever I got to give my peeps a taste of the best. I'm supposing over the years a major renovation was done to the dining area. However, the pizza is still the best I've ever had. Oh how I miss the UES and places like Gino's. This cafe is one of the better-kept secrets of the neighborhood. Delivery or dine-in, this place is Incredibly low priced - pick up their menu and be shocked. The Chicken Parm is HUGE and under $10. Their bread is fresh and they give you grated parmesean cheese with your entree. I love their pasta dishes as well. I've had the pizza and it's very good, but I would recommend their garlic knots with a pasta entree. read more

Ordered grandmas and primavera pizzas, house salads which were fresh and full of veggies, and penne vodka which looked like mac and cheese and tasted rich and yummy. I lived upstairs from Gino's for two years, but I've kept coming back for more. They make a great pie, but their other dishes are worth a look as well. The pasta dishes are large and delicious, and, at dinnertime, you'll find a varied crowd enjoying that and more - the house wine is inexpensive and does the job. NYC pizza at its best! After trying Gino's I won't ever go back to the other places on the UES. The pizza crust is crisp (as it should be), but the thin pizza is fold-able as well. They aren't afraid of layering on the cheese and keeping the sauce thin but tasty. I'm a huge fan of their pepperoni. Atmosphere: Very friendly staff that are always willing to accommodate special requests. You can tell they appreciate your business. Food: Wonderful and full of flavor! If you like large portions of over cooked food without taste then this is the place. I was served mushy pasta with vegetables cooked the way they were made in the 60's, that is to death. My friend's food was mushy ziti in excess sauce and overdone veal Parmesan. What a waste of cash. This restaurant is for people who want quantity over quality. Searching for not just a slice on the far UES on a dark and stormy Sunday afternoon, we decided to try Gino's. They had a good number of tables while still being cozy, and while I found the service fine, my friend thought maybe they were a little bit pushy or short. Whatever, they pizza was solid. The crust was a bit flavorless, but texture was fine, and they clearly freshly sauteed our spinach and mushrooms to go along with sun-dried tomatoes and "home-made" sausage -- that was actually good, not gristly, not overly spicy -- and mozz. The thing was enormous, I think we each managed 1 slice and a few extra bites, and took home another entire meal's worth, all for about $25. If you're tired of all the hype for the next new coal-fired artis-anal pizza, this will remind you what really matters. read more

A nice staff and a very cozy little restaurant that actually looks very cute at night. It's simple, but it works. They do only take cash, which can be a disappointing realization when you stop in for a slice on your way home and find yourself cashless, but it doesn't bother me too much as the prices are pretty reasonable and the food is great. read more

I read a review that Gino's and Delizia are comparable but I have to say the pizza at Gino's is better (I do love Delizia's salads though). Yum! There are a million pizza places but Gino's knows how to do it right! We are gluttons and ordered a whole pie (mushroom & tomato), after having a good tri-colore salad, and enjoyed a bottle of wine with it. They really seemed to care about their food, and kept our pizza inside so it would stay warm - and payed attention so just as we'd finish our slice, they'd show up with the pizza. Unfortunately, you don't really need a whole pie from Gino's for 2 people - but it makes for great leftovers! read more

I was put on to this place by a family friend and I am so lucky I was. This restaurant is family owned and family operated, very intimate. Their food is delicious and full of flavor: my favorite is the linguine with garlic and oil. Their portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. The salads are so fresh they taste like they were just made! I highly recommend the Caesar salad which is scrumptious and large enough to share. Overall Gino's is a great neighborhood restaurant that I visit at least once every two weeks because I know I will never be disappointed! read more

I think this place is real solid if you're craving Italian. I've come here for dinner twice but did not get pizza. Ordered the linguini in white wine clam sauce with the house red wine. The dish was delicious as was the wine and very reasonably priced. The second time, I ordered the lasagna and the portion was very generous. The pasta isn't homemade but the sauces taste fresh and delicious. The service is friendly and attentive. The mozzarella sticks are the best I've had in my life, you must try them. If you're in the neighborhood and craving Italian; for the price, the portions, the service - this place can't be beat. It is a bit cramped and can get crowded in there. I've seen other people with kids in here but the room to wander around inside is limited, so if your kiddos have itchy feet and need to get up for a walk around mid meal to let out energy, this place will be too small but otherwise good. I love this place. Fresh itialan food like my mom would make. I always get the lasagna because it is so good. Lobster ravioli is also on point. Wash it down with a bottle of Malbec and all for a reasonable price. Service is awesome, very friendly and attentive (probably because it's not a huge place). Oh and their Bread is freshly made too.
