This place is definitely a 10 out of 10 from the food to the drinks. I went here for a girls night out for dinner and cocktails. For starters we order the 21 PROSCIUTTO & MELON included stracciatella, mint, honey, rosemary flatbread, 18 MEATBALLS ricotta, pomodoro sauce, 15 GIULIA'S CAESAR kale, focaccia croutons, pepperoncini anchovy dressing and 11 RIBOLLITA SOUP sausage, white beans, focaccia gf-o. My favorite was the prosciutto &melon the rosemary flatbread was such a great pair! For entree's we got the 24 CAPRINO prosciutto, goat cheese, red wine braised tomatoes and the 28 CAPPALLETTI calabrian chili-ricotta, oyster mushrooms, asparagus. I really enjoyed both dishes the capoalleti was sooo good the pasta taste freshly made definitely portifino vibes. For dessert seasonal gelato which was a banana and Carmel mix. You could taste the fresh bananas definitely get this dessert while it last. For drinks of course a girls got to get an espresso martini I tried both with vodka and tequila. I loved the tequila one more but if you're a light drinker it's probably best to just do vodka. They also use the coffee from the same building as spy house coffee so you know it's yummy!My friend ordered a aperol spritz which was just okay and FUMO drunk that was okay it had amaro sfumato rabarbaro, mezcal, lemon juice, simple syrup. Beautiful restaurant with high ceilings and pillars, such an elegant vibe! On Thursday's they do Mozzarella made at your table charcuterie style which was so unique and memorable. We have gotten a variety of food here over the years. I really had the fish which was light and delicious. The pappardelle was flavorful as well. Some dishes do have a kick of spice. He was rude, when asked a question about the menu was very snarky and not helpful. One response was "If it's not there we don't have it" in a very sharp and impolite way. What a great find in downtown Minneapolis! First of all, the building is beautiful. Marble columns and stately architecture combine with atmospheric lighting and hanging plants to create a warm and intimate atmosphere. The open kitchen is interesting to watch, and although the place is packed, the noise level never interferes with one's enjoyment of the meal. Secondly, the wait staff are well trained and hospitable. Really excellent service. Was not expecting this from a pizza joint. And finally, the food was outstanding. Everything was just so tasty. I had a staycation at the Emery and only heard great things about this restaurant so I made a brunch reservation after we checked out. As far as the space- I love the open concept, tall ceilings and beautiful greenery. The staff we were patient and our server checked on us continually. I ordered a basic Americano breakfast meal but it was far from basic!! The sausage was so flavorful, the bread garlicky and the eggs made to my perfection. What a lovely Italian restaurant! Giulia, pronounced like the name Julia, is a beautiful space in a historic building that formerly housed Midland National Bank. A wonderful staff member told us that a lot of the marble in the building was preserved as well as some cool bank vaults that we saw. The restaurant is in the same building as the Emery hotel. The food we tried was delicious! Our group all loved the Chicken Parm, Funghi Pizza, and the Ravioli that we had for our main meals. For dessert, the Black Chocolate Budino was incredibly rich and had some interesting flavors with the salted caramel and a wafer in it. Worth trying if you're a big fan of dark chocolate / salted caramel! The Espresso Gelato was the perfect balance of sweetness and strong flavor. First thing you notice about Guila is the architecture and ambience. Beautiful high ceilings and open concept. The second thing we noticed was the lack of timely service. Waited 5 minutes for menus even though it wasn't busy. That seemed to be a theme throughout the meal. The food however was good. The diavola pizza had good flavor but wish it was a touch crispier. The chicken parm had good crisp and was a thick piece of chicken. Calamari to start was nicely done and couldn't stop eating. You could also taste the meatballs being homemade. The croquettes had a nice cheesy interior with a crunchy outside. Overall the meal was great but we waited another 10 minutes for the check. Stopped by on a Tuesday night and it was fairly busy. The manager let us know that they were running behind, but was able to seat us at the counter and we didn't mind because our server was so friendly and attentive and we got to watch the food being made. We ordered a couple cocktails and the cucumber mocktail, which were delicious. Instead of apps, we ordered two pastas, the cacio e pepe and fettucine verde, and the funghi pizza to share. The pizza was amazing- if you love mushrooms you will love this savory, umami white sauced pizza. The cacio e pepe was also flavorful, and the fettucine verde is good if you like a pasta that isn't too saucy. It came with a lemon butter which worked well with the spinach poppyseed pasta, asparagus and peas (and definitely felt healthy). Overall food was great as was service, and I would love to come back to try brunch. They also do table-side mozzarella on Thursdays, so we will have to check that out. The restaurant itself is inside the Emery hotel and the interior is beautiful with lots of plants and shelves. It's a perfect date spot for food or a drink at the bar. read more

I came here to meet business colleagues on a Sunday night. We did not have reservations, and so we sat in the bar area near the hostess stand. Service was quite slow, but we understood that because the server was covering a large area and she was friendly. Based on reviews, I ordered the meatballs and the ravioli dish. The overriding flavor is SALT. I heard this mentioned in a few of the reviews (and as we learn in any cooking class anywhere, we know salt is a flavor enhancer). However, this was much too heavily salted, especially the meatballs. I really wanted to love them, but they were not palatable. As an afterthought because of all the salt, I asked for some bread which also was slow to arrive (because I think the only bread they have is their toasted focaccia) The bread is nice, but I had cold food by the time it arrived. The ravioli pasta was tender, and obviously fresh and homemade. I enjoyed this dish more than the meatballs, and it was a small portion - however, I appreciate that the server had told me that when ordering. read more

I was staying at this location for a few days. I ended up eating here three nights. The ambience is perfect, there's a lot of plants, a very green space with soft lighting and the entire lobby/restaurant area. Very pleasant. It's a large space with plenty of seating, to include the bar area. My first impression was awful, due to a very rude bartender. I had to come down to pick up food I had ordered, because there was no one at the host stand for sometime. I made my way to the bar. A very tall male bartender turned to me, and I explained I was here to pick up food, before I could finish my sentence he cut me me off, told me he'd help me in a minute and turn back towards the register to input his tips. I took a seat at the bar, he never returned to help me. I ended up having a friend meet me at the bar and having my food there. Had it not been that the pasta was so good I would not have returned to eat the next couple nights. But honestly, he was so short and rude towards me that it made me wonder if I had offended him in someway. I don't think I did, as my interaction with him was so brief. Everything I had here was good, except for the olive tapenade. It just wasn't to my liking., But that's just my personal taste, perhaps. I also thought the pizza was just OK. Nothing crazy. I definitely stick with the pasta, and recommend the shrimp pasta, which is unfortunately the only one I didn't take a picture of. I would avoid the very tall male bartender. You should not expect faster service if you're sitting at the bar, I'm always patient in the sun, so I'm not taking any stars off for that experience. Spent our Christmas dinner at Giulia and it did not disappoint. The food was EXCELLENT, some of the yummiest tasting dishes I've had. We had (and highly recommend) the polenta croquettes, salad, and focaccia to start. Short rib pappardelle as an entree - and their Christmas special, the salmon. We would order it all again. Our server was beyond sweet and friendly, and had great knowledge of the menu and overall timing in dining experience. Visited Giulia to celebrate a friends birthday and was amazed by the delicious pizza at this restaurant! Be aware that they charge a 20% surcharge for food/drinks (not considered a tip). First, the aesthetics and open kitchen concept is top tier. The restaurant is beautiful and perfect for a special occasion. They also offer private dining areas. Only downside is parking, many of the people that were with us had to park at a ramp or few blocks away. The menu has lots of options: soups, salads, pasta and pizza. I loved that they offered NA cocktails as well. They were also delicious. I ordered the diávola pizza and it easily serves 2 people, we all assumed they were personal pizzas and that's what most of us ordered. Do not sit in the vault room if you can avoid it. The service was atrocious. Our server was never to be seen or found. We got our appetizer before our drinks and the drinks came 30 minutes after sitting down then didn't get our main food until 60 minutes. My dad paid and he was handed back just the signed receipt and not the itemized and we had to ask for the itemized and to our surprise was there was auto gratuity so he was about to make double the tip he didn't deserve. The Giulia is located inside Emery Hotel and if you can't find Emery Hotel look for the Spyhouse Coffee House sign! There's parking right across the street in the parking ramp! Otherwise the ambience of the place is industrial look meets modern! I love setting because it can be a romantic type of setting. For my drink I got the Maria I hardly knew ye... it wasn't my favorite and it was hard to drink. I didn't taste the rum or pineapple and it honestly tasted like DayQuil. The pastas are delicious, but very pricey for fairly small portions. This past visit, I ordered the pancetta panini for lunch, which was ok. Decent flavor, but not really "$18 sandwich good." The restaurant is in a pretty fancy hotel with some really cool decor. We started with a Caesar salad and the ricotta meatballs. The Caesar salad had what I think was kale it it (not my fav) but always like trying new things. The meatballs were fabulous. Really liked the sauce served with them. So good. The open fire oven demanded we also try a pizza. We chose pepperoni. The crust was amazing as I expected and the pizza topping had a bit of a bite to it. Not sure if it was the pepperoni or another spice but it was delicious. Stopped by for dinner before going to see Wicked. Service was nice and the food was good. I got the pappardelle which had really good flavor. I could tell there was rosemary in the sauce which was a nice surprise. My only complaint was there wasn't enough food haha. My friend got the chicken parmesan and the chicken was surprisingly juicy and the marinara was nicely seasoned. Wow. I was blown away by this meal. First the breaded risotto balls (Suppli) was outstanding. When I asked the server what his favorite appetizer he didn't waffle... it was an immediate conviction of this dish. He was spot on. The pasta dishes were two of the best I've had. At the end of the seafood cavatelli I was scooping the sauce all by itself in to mouth... with a fork. It wasn't easy, but I honestly couldn't let a drop escape the table. This restaurant is a bit hidden. It's located inside of the Emery hotel in Downtown Minneapolis. There is valentines parking which is $12 for 2 hours, $10 if you're visiting the restaurant for 2 hours. Beyond that the price does increase. There are also tons of other parking lots nearby or street parking. There is a coffee shop inside so it can get busy on the weekends since there are a lot of people who do hang out at the coffee shop. The interior is so modern and open. When you walk in the bar is beautifully designed with a 360 view open concept along with plants throughout the restaurant and bar as well the open kitchen. Simple and clean interior ties in beautifully with the interior of the hotel and having its own personality. The polenta croquettes were one of my favorites, perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and the inside was creamy with the perfect sauce to balance it. The mafia bacon was salty, sweet with a surprising kick at the end which was pleasant. And you can't go wrong with parm fries and to wash it down with a pitcher of mimosas. The least favorite was the pane toastado, everything was great until I got to the mushrooms and there was way too much of a kick in there that I could not even eat it. There was no indication of chili or spice in the menu so I was disappointed I couldn't enjoy it for the amount of money I spent. Overall it was an enjoyable place, but be prepared since it was quite pricey. Great place to hang out and enjoy the ambience and people watch. read more
