Mothers Day brunch reservation for four. We were put at a high top table for eight. I finally figured out that it was because our kids are old enough to sit in tall chairs. Most of the other tables had small children. Certainly was less formal! It would have been nice to have been told ahead of time or asked if that was okay. We likely would have said 'no problem', but being forced there was a little odd. Nothing like taking Mom out for brunch and being placed at the only table without a table cloth (and four empty seats). The buffet was as expected and we had no issues. Nothing extraordinary but I'd have to say the desserts were marginal. That is often the case at MDay brunch IMHO. The service was good and the price was appropriate. I work near here so every Friday my co-workers and I go out for lunch at various places in the area. We've been here a few times, and the food is pretty solid overall. They do a lot of local and seasonal ingredients, so the menu changes 3-4 times a year. The flatbreads they make are very tasty, great for a lunch portion. Although I didn't have one on this visit, I have had a duck confit one in the past that was flavorful. This time, I had duck confit tacos (what? I like duck when I can get it!) - they were a good flavor combination with the fresh pineapple salsa. Alongside was some shredded iceberg lettuce and lime wedges, while it filled the plate, I felt that it perhaps needed something else, such as a light cilantro dressing.... something as it didn't add anything. While I'm a big fan of risotto, I haven't tried it here yet. My 2 co-workers have both ordered them before and made the large portion disappear pretty quickly having to hold back on licking the plate. Their baked "mac n' cheese" is also a firm favorite. The reason why I only give 3 stars is while the service is friendly, food takes quite a while to come out of the kitchen, so expect that you're definitely going to be there well over an hour. I have to start this review by saying that I loved the food!!! I had the scallops with mushroom risotto and baby carrots and it was amazing! Everything was cooked perfectly. We ordered the mushroom appetizer which was also excellent. That said...he ordered a burger which he said was good but without going into too many details, it didn't come out the way he ordered it. This was disappointing. It was corrected and then the manager came out. Had a short discussion about it he said he'd be right back, went into the kitchen and never came back out. Then the server was obviously displeased with our displeasure based on her attitude. All of this is why I only give them 3 stars. We both work in customer service and really look forward to good service when we go out for a nice dinner. Unfortunately the service end of our experience fell short. Oh and an FYI to whom it may concern...not every customer with a complaint is looking for a comp or a gift card. We weren't looking for that and we left without it. Will we return? i came here for lunch with a friend. we had a hard time finding the place because i swear this is NOT glen ellyn, but Lombard. from the website, you cannot tell it's off roosevelt and without a nice view. in any case, the place was nice inside and the service was very pleasant. the food was good and i would probably try to come for dinner one night if i'm in the neighborhood. for lunch, we ordered french onion soup, tempura battered green beans, the cobb salad and the smoked pork flat bread. pleasant experience and decent food. read more

I came here to feel good about locally grown food. I left happy and full. My friend had been here a few times and raves about this place and so when a few friends came in from out of town, we checked out this place. My dirty martini was perfect - not to dirty, not too vodka-y. The vodka was organic, so not only could I feel warm and fuzzy from the alcohol content, I could also feel warm and fuzzy from the "do-good" vibe. We had the warm hummus, spinach and artichoke dip and bruchetta. The bruchetta was amazing, the rest of the aps were great. I can only give this place three stars because our entrees took forever. There was a bit of TMI going on, as our server informed us that one of the cooks was in the hospital, which I think was her way of explaining there would be a delay in the kitchen. To start, one of the worst 3 star restaurants I've been to. The food was only marginally good but, of course, it was fresh. I got the burger which was not cooked well but it was still decent. The mac and cheese lacked excitement. The spinach was very good. They had no coke. They also had the manager? Run across the restaurant yelling "the machine doesn't work" followed by a waiter walking the opposite direction whispering "and your not supposed to be yelling the machine doesn't work." I hadn't been going out much lately because of the Cub playoff games and have been thirsting for a great meal and experience. This wasn't it. It was just ok. And just ok is a failure. It also has a weird set up to the tables. I just remembered. It's connected to a hallway that leads to a hotel so maybe my expectations should have been lowered. We ordered several appetizers along with some sandwiches. We had the Shrimp & Grits which was overwhelmed with garlic and not in a good way. Vampires beware, you've been warned. The grits were gloppy and thick and had puddles of grease on top either from the cheese or the butter. A very poor representation of Shrimp & Grits. The bruschetta was excellent the best I've ever had. Usually when you get bruschetta it's not seasoned well and the bread gets soggy quickly. Not the case here the bread had great crunch and beet and arugula topping had really a mouth full of flavor. The stuffed mushrooms were also a hit. The cheese was creamy and the amount of garlic was just right. The pulled pork sandwich was just okay. It was a bit dry and could have used some additional sauce which also would have improved the flavor. I'm knocking off 1 star because of the sub par beer list which was just the typical bad beer from the big beer companies. I wish they would support some of the great local brewers especially since they want to market themselves as a local flavor restaurant. It fell a little short for a fine dining experience. read more

We had a groupon, which made this an affordable evening. The waitress, Emily, who was awesome, asked if we had a groupon. I didn't have to try and work it into conversation, she just asked the question. When we said yes, it in no way impacted her service. She is a pro. So far so good! We had spent a considerable amount of time pouring over the menu at home so we knew what we wanted. But the husband couldn't decide if he wanted the corn bruschetta or the duck tacos, so we got both. YUMMY. The tacos were a bit better than the bruschetta, but both were home runs. I got the pork tenderloin, which I never get at home. There were 4 delicious medalions of pork on my plate. They were really good. The veggies were so/so. I am not a huge fan of butternut squash, so that probably isn't the chef's fault. My husband got more duck. He enjoyed it, but wasn't as pleased about it as I was. It was a bit too rustic for his taste. (He orders dishes like this all the time and is never happy with them... oh well.) The dessert was not made in the kitchen. We had salted carmel cheesecake, it was good, but we could have bought a slice at the deli and it would have been the same thing. There is an opportunity to make the desserts as interesting as the rest of the menu. That said, if dessert hadn't been included in our groupon, we wouldn't have gotten it. We were STUFFED. We both agreed that the food was good, the service was GREAT, but maybe a touch over priced. If you are looking for creative, fresh food, it is worth a look. You won't be disappointed. read more

Ugggh. Where to start. I've always wanted to try this place post "Best New Restaurant 2009". So much for old reviews... To begin - the place was 20% filled on a Friday night at 7:00 (note to self...run when you see this!) We ordered a bottle of wine which eventually showed up. We then ordered a burger, salad and a starter (mac n' cheese). The only thing edible was the starter. The burger, ordered medium rare, showed up dry as a brick. The cobb salad had chicken that was beyond dry and flavorless. The only bright spot was the manager asking how things were - to which we expressed our disappointment. She replaced the burger - certainly better the second time. She also took both off of our bill which is a nice step toward redemption. Sadly - we won't be going back. The service has always been great with each visit. Beverage prices are in line with hotel restaurant prices and not a place to hang out for a full evening with a can of cider at $11, although craft beer at $7 point is the going rate. The turkey club is a generous portion with quality crispy bacon at a reasonable price. $9 for a bowl of soup at a restaurant in a hotel is even believable. However, a $4 upcharge from fries to a cup of soup that appears to be about 25% the size of the bowl, seems a bit steep. read more

Went for breakfast and the eggs benedict was best ever - GLUTEN FREE was just icing on the cake. My daughter and I split it and she is not celiac and she said best ever as well. The service was fantastic. I saw someone posted that is was a bit pricey and I would have to disagree. Tried this place for the first time today. There was a hostess when we walked in and we were the only 3rd table. The bartender/waitress greater us right away and was friendly. The menu had a lot of great items. I had the special steak tacos (ordered Medium Rare) and my mom ordered the Chicken avocado sandwich. The look took longer than I expected but when the food arrived was told for the tacos normally the make all the meat at noon and cooked all one way (which was NOT listed on menu). Was told my steak was medium rare but they were not....more like well done. Told the server right away and said we did not have time to wait for something else and she took the meal off the bill and I didn't even have to ask. The chicken avocado sandwich was AWESOME!!! The restaurant was very cold...seemed like air was on and they did adjust temp for us. Will give this place another try. My rating is Ailey based that management did NOT state on menu specials that steak was not made to ordered and kitchen stating my meat was Medium Rare but was Rare. read more

If I hadn't read the reviews on Yelp I would never have considered dining at Glen Prairie due to its location. It is attached to a hotel but surprisingly, it has a nice atmosphere and does not feel like you are dining at a hotel. The menu was creative and interesting. There were a number of brunch entrees that interested me. The food was good although the service was consistently slow. Very friendly staff but slow as molasses!!! Our server belatedly asked if we wanted more coffee and water rather than just refilling. Pretty lame for brunch when the restaurant is empty. I can't imagine if it had been busy, especially since we were accompanied by a very young infant. read more

Went for dinner Wednesday night at 8. I love the warm bread and herb butter they serve to start you off. Picked the Shepherds Pie from the specials menu and was very happy. The Rosemary twig gave it a nice note. Served in a seemingly small bowl that more than fills you up. And friendly staff. read more

After passing by this local restauranr for several years, my wife and I decided to finally stop in this past Saturday night. Place looked nice and was fairly busy, but the bar was open so we thought we'd start with a cocktail; However, after at least ten minutes of having the bartender, multiple servers (3) and even the manager ignore our presence we thought we'd mosey on down the road to one of our area favs - Flour & Wine (also in Glen Ellyn). BTW; even tried to get the bartenders attention by asked her to turn the Blackhawks game on, but that only got us some sort of mumbled response and stuck with a Big East b-ball game that no one was watching. The breakfast here is incredible. Definitely the best breakfast food in the area. They use organic eggs, and locally source their produce and bakery goods. My boyfriend and I dine here almost every weekend, for the last 2 years, and it rarely disappoints. The staff is amazing. I could go on and on... It would be nice to see some new items on the menu, since it hasn't changed since I've been coming here (a little over 2 years), but other than that, it pretty spectacular ! read more

I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. Organic and locally grown produce! I have been hesitant because it was a little pricey. When a friend suggested lunch, I was all for it. We started off with the hummus appetizer. It was quite delicious, topped with toasted pine nuts and served with grilled/butter or deep fried (?) pita wedges. A nice veggie accompaniment of a few carrots, green beans and cucumber wedges topped it off. Unfortunately our sandwiches were not as good as the hummus. I had the grilled cheese with a trio of cheeses that was just way too much for the sandwich. If you're gonna do 3 cheeses, maybe shred and mix to cut down on the amount of cheese. The bread just couldn't handle it. For $9, (included a very plain side salad of just mixed baby greens - with NOTHING but the greens ), I was disappointed. My friend had the BLT and said it was very average. She did enjoy the french fries, which were fresh, not too greasy, skins on and seasoned nicely. We had the Lavazza coffee after dinner. I am not sure, but it was bitter and I think it had been left on too long. Glen Prarie does have a great concept for dessert, too bad they were so blah. They offer minis-- for $2 you can get a sample of a dessert. We ordered 3. We had the brownie sundae, which was not too bad, but nothing I'd have again (the round crunchies on top were pretty good!), the chocolate souffle, which was tasteless and dry and the bing cherry bread pudding, which was sadly messing it's spices. For spending $19 each at lunch, it was a tad disappointing. Our waitress asked us to pay so she could leave, which was a little strange and unprofessional (would they not save her tip for her tomorrow?) There were only 2 other tables in the entire we were there. It's too bad this great concept of a restaurant doesn't have more UMPF! read more

This place is pretty good, but not as amazing as some other reviews say. It has a nice atmosphere and the food isn't bad, but I felt it was over priced and the service was lacking. I had to send my Manhattan back twice because I asked for it on the rocks and it came in a martini glass. That kind of stuff usually doesn't bother me, but this place comes off as high class, so I think they should be able to handle a drink order. I was so looking forward to this evening at Glen Prairie. I took the advice of others on this site and asked to be seated at Edna's table. Disappointed is an understatement. I had the shepherds pie. I have had so many that were better than this. It was overloaded with pepper so the flavors of the meat and potatoes were lost. I ate about a third and figured I'd take the rest home to doctor up. Edna came with two boxes to our table to wrap up our food. She dropped a box on the floor, picked it up and began putting my food in it!!!!!! How utterly disgusting! I asked if she was using the one that dropped on the floor and she proceeds to make a big deal out of it, saying it landed up, not down; that she could get me a whole new shepherd pie. It was turning loud and embarrassing, so, I declined. It would have been such a quick, easy fix to just go get another box. She should have done something else- like offered a free dessert, taken the appetizer off the bill. Anything! We tipped her accordingly, but she avoided our table and never came back to thank us! It's part of the hotel that I frequent so tends to be default for a tired nights dinner or breakfast. Breakfast buffet is typical and certainly no better than anywhere else. It has a reasonable selection but the quality of the hot foods is lacking. dinner is ok ... Food is tasty and reasonably price. Staff need a jump start. Seems their is always this one bartender who has a long puss on his face and the whole staff (sans bus boy) disappear for periods of time with no explanation. So I'd recommend it but stay on top of the staff or you will be dying of thirst read more

We had dinner and brunch here while staying at the Crowne Plaza, which is attached. We had wonderful service both times for brunch and dinner. Our servers were very friendly and attentive and made us feel very comfortable. I would say our dinner was more enjoyable than brunch, but it was still great. For dinner I had the Turkey burger and my girlfriend had the bruseels sprouts salad. Both were awesome! We also had the firecracker shrimp as a starter and that was my favorite part for sure. In the morning I had the goat cheese benedict which was tasty, but a bit rich for me. My gal had the Mediterranean omelet, but it lacked some flavor. We split the blackberry french toast and that was amazing! I would go back for dinner any time! read more

We had such a good time tonight at Glen Prairie! My boyfriend and I chose to go here for our anniversary because of the option for most food to be either vegetarian or gluten free on demand (boyfriend is veg.) I had the chicken pot pie and he had the vegetable curry. Both were delicious! The lava. Cake was also to die for, small but so rich that anymore would've been too much. The beer menu is also hood, small but the selections are all solid. Our server was also able to accurately guide is to good selections after we told her what we liked. First time visiting, high marks all around. Easy to find, ample parking, not overly crowded. ...perfect for a Saturday night dinner. Starters of cocktails, fresh hot bread with a herbed butter...delicious. I recommend the pear/ginger martini. The pickled peppers on the calamari were fantastic. Borsin stuffed mushrooms were a new treat that was delicious. Sister raved about the beet salad. The summer veggie soup was very flavorful. Sister had the mac and cheese with Bbq pork...talk about generous portions! The Bbq has a bit of a mustard tinge, so might not be great if you aren't a fan. Short ribs were fork tender, and the sweet potato mash with roasted brussel sprouts were a great compliment. The most memorable aspect of the meal though was the service. ...5 STARS! **Will not return - experience was Harmful to my heart/overall health** For a restaurant that takes pride in locally sourced food, I will not trust them as far as I can throw a bagel. I have been off caffeine for six and a half years on doctors orders. I ordered decaf coffee and in addition to the cup I was given a carafe. I asked the server if the carafe was for me as a second one was also set down on the table. She responded yes. After roughly six cups of coffee over about an hour, I felt like something was seriously wrong and asked again but was told both carafes were regular. I spent the next 10 hours having heart palpitations, increased resting heart rate of 125 bpm on average, nausea, anxiety, loss of sleep, blurred vision and the most uncomfortable flight of life. To top this off, 20% gratuity was added to the check so we didn't even have the option for our tip to reflect this large oversight. If the staff can't get regular vs decaf coffee right, I am not sure I would trust their gluten free or vegan options either. For the rest of our table... We chose this place because we heard there was a great Blood Mary bar. The Bloody Mary bar is okay but for $14/drink, I would highly suggest going somewhere else for a more quality beverage. The service definitely left something to be desired as we were there almost 15 minutes prior to being greeted by a server. Most of my friend's meals were good but a little pricey ($16 for Eggs Benedict). My pancake was mixed up with someone else's so they had to remake mine and when I got the pancake it was so crispy it seemed like it was pan-fried. The buffet on the menu is just a hotel breakfast buffet, not a brunch buffet. Not even an omelet station is included. Overall, just a mediocre hotel restaurant that in typical hotel (not resort) fashion is overpriced for the quality extended. read more

We have been to Glen Prairie many times and have always had fabulous, interesting, fresh and very flavorful dishes! I love they try to use local and organic food and the menu changes seasonally. Their bite size desserts are just the right size and oh so tastey for $2.00 or sometimes free with entrees! Then I don't feel guilty ordering dessert! The service has ALWAYS been friendly, attentive and knowledgeable! It's such a gem in a Crown Plaza Hotel! This is on our regular list and will definitely go back very soon! read more

Nice to have a casual place like this so close to home. Food is excellent. Local ingredients which are top notch. They have seasonal choices so the menu changes. We have a great meal everytime. The sandwhich and burgers are reasonable and filling. Entrees can get pricey but worth it. Fresh tasting everything. We like to have a flight of mini desserts to share. My client chose to meet here for dinner and I am glad she did! Although it is connected to a hotel, you didn't feel like you were in a "hotel restaurant". The space had a lot more of a trendy vibe and the food was delicious. The stuffed mushrooms were great to share and uniquely prepared. We both got the pike and it came with the famous Mac N Cheese. We both had enough left overs for a second meal. The one downfall was that the server seemed to have too many tables or torn in too many directions.
