Two Hound Red is a nice, roomy, and chill brew pub in downtown Glen Ellyn.  The building apparently used to house a long time Schmid's Pharmacy and has a big, woody barn feel to it with solid wood tables throughout.  It's bright and airy towards the open front but darkish in the rear near the open kitchen.   Importantly to my pals and I, they also have a nice, big, and diverse beer selection and some good pub food.   I had my usual burger and beer dinner for this catchup session and for our usual beer geek party of 3.   We learned all pints are $5 all night on Thursdays, yippee, and they start conducting a trivia game at 7pm that appeared to draw more patrons in (it also got annoyingly a bit loud).  We started with pretzels ($9) and cheese curds ($13).  The pretzel slices weren't very fresh and probably the only slight disappointment to the evening.  The cheese curds were quite nice and delicious.  I had their delicious mushroom swiss burger with tater tots ($17).  One pal had the same and another had their Old Fashion burger and we all liked them.  It was stated to be a 6 oz burger but looked more like 8 oz, yum!  I also tried 3 of their IPA's: - Hazy Hound New England IPA, 6.3% ABV - Exponential Power IPA, 7.5% ABV - Pale Horse IPA, 7.2% ABV I really liked the Hazy Hound, thought their popular Exponential Power was decent, but I didn't particularly like the Pale Horse.   Overall, still a mighty fine beer menu here and I wouldn't mind a second try of their beer list.  What my pals drank is on the itemized bill photo for the record and we all enjoyed this outing and venue.   Our server was Eline M and she was knowledgeable and attentive to us loiterers. They have a small private parking lot but there is also plenty of easy street parking out front.   The big place wasn't particularly busy until close to 7pm trivial game time.  Overall, I'll go with 4.50 rounded up to 5 stars particularly for their nice $5 per pint Thursday promo. read more

A coworker and I came here recently on a Thursday afternoon, and we had a pleasant experience. When walking in, the place is huge. There is a large bar where you walk in and plenty of tables all over the dining room. We sat in the room off the main dining room near the garage-like windows because we wanted to feel like we were sitting outside without actually sitting outside. We had a very nice and attentive waiter when we sat down, and he was patient with us as we looked at the menu since it was our first time here. The alcohol list is extensive and has many unique options since they are a brewery. I initially ordered a 16 oz Charlie's Pineapple Upside Down Wit, and it was delicious. I don't think it tasted like a "dessert," as it says on the menu, but it was a great sour if that's your vibe. Then, I ended up ordering a 16 oz Carried Away by Cardinals. This one was amazing and tasted like a fruity wine because it was made from raspberries and blueberries. I liked this one more than the pineapple one, but they are two very different unique and enjoyable flavors I recommend trying! I was excited because it seemed as though we came here unexpectedly during happy hour. After all, these two beers were only $5 for me when they should have been $7 each. My friend ordered a cocktail called the Tail Chaser, and she enjoyed it, so she ended up getting two. From an outsider's perspective, it looked like a pink lemonade! As for food, I ordered the mac and cheese with roasted red pepper ($15). I had high hopes because it came in a skillet and looked amazing. The noodles and peppers were delicious, but I was unimpressed with the cheese sauce. The sauce wasn't creamy at all and ended up being watery. I wasn't a fan, and it honestly ruined the dish. In my opinion, this is something to work on because everyone wants creamy mac and cheese instead of noodles swimming in a watery sauce. My friend ordered a grilled cheese ($8) from the kid's part of the menu, and she enjoyed it! Simple and easy. A plus is that we got our food fresh 10 minutes after ordering. Overall, I would 1000% come here again, but I probably wouldn't order the mac and cheese again. However, there are plenty of delicious-sounding options on the menu that I'd be willing to try, so I know I'll be back soon. read more

A truly great brewery experience! We came as a small group on a Saturday afternoon and it was the perfect spot. Plenty of seating and very family friendly; lots of kids and babies! I tried a flight of beer and all of them were excellent. Additionally, I never have high expectations for brewery food but it was all delicious. i had seen that this place was dog friendly so i gave it a try. we got to sit outside and got to choose where to sit. we got helped out and got our orders in. the outside seating was clean and it wasn't too busy. we got sprite and coke and the glasses were clean and the drinks were crisp. for appetizer we got a cesar salad to share, compared to a $13 cesar salad else where this one seemed a bit small. for entrees we got wings with a side of fries and the cajun shrimp tacos. the wings were good actually enjoyed the smoked and fried part. fries were good as well there was just a lot to finish. the cajun shrimp tacos were good and the side of salsa on there helped it as well. could of put out a little more chipotle ranch. the tacos did seem to be missing something though maybe like an avocado or something. overall good flavoring. they were $16 for 4 which i thought was good just needed some more to it i asked for a chicken breast for the dogs and they got it and it even came cut up which i appreciated it and they did too. service was excellent until the end where we were waiting about 15 minutes to get asked for check and box. read more

Wow! The Cuban sandwich with chips was outstanding. They make their own pulled pork and it was delicious. Nice bread, slightly toasted, not cheap white bread. A friend and I stopped in here for lunch after a day of shopping in downtown Glen Ellyn. It was a chill bar vibe but not too noisy, and we nabbed a booth along one wall. I started with the intriguing horchata root beer that was advertised on the door. I like horchata, I like root beer, so this was an interesting blend of the two: the cinnamon of the horchata and the rootiness of the root beer; it was also very carbonation-forward (made me sneeze a few times after the first couple sips!) Not the very best root beer I ever had, but a fun flavor trip. For our meal, we both ordered exactly the same thing: the Good Boy Burger with smoked cheddar, crispy onions and apple cider bbq sauce, but no jalapenos, cooked medium, with fries. YUM! A tasty, hearty burger, slightly messy but not a disaster. Cutting it in half made eating it more manageable. Our waiter, Jordan, was laid-back, friendly, and chatty. Came upon this while going somewhere and instead stopped in to get some beer and grub. It turns out to be more than a brewery as they also have a kitchen. Two Hound Red is the only brewery in Glen Ellyn and for now is filling the demand that before wasn't in this town. A lot of beers beyond just the IPA stuff you can get anywhere. You can also get some good healthy food as well. Even though it hasn't been around long it manages to have a good variety of beers. It has more than just the common stuff like IPAs that many people have had enough of. They also have a few sours. Even the IPAs they have are interesting. We had a few different types. I had a Spellcaster In Perdition. It's $7 for a pint. This is a New England Hazy IPA with a bold taste. It has hints of many fruits. There's notes of black pepper, guava, lemon, and red grapefruit. It's not just beer. There's food too. It has a pretty surprisingly good kitchen with a few plant based options. We had the Mexican Rice And Black Beans so we had something to eat as well to keep a good pace. It's $5 for a bowl. This is a good affordable option for vegetarians. Also rice helps absorb alcohol. Then you can have more. Get your drink on and your eat on in a pretty cool brewery. It's better than those ones that just have the same few kinds of beer so if you like variety come here. Roasted brussel sprouts were all burnt and dry very little green probably from over roasting and sitting under a lamp for too long. Pulled pork sandwich was ok. Spinach and artichoke dip was very oily and chips very hard. A lot of this could be from sitting too long out vs being fresh to order. Our group of 5 had excellent experience on a Friday night. The beer was good as well as the apps. One of the members of our group does not drink alcohol. She asked our server if the bar tender could make her a mocktail. I just want to say we had some of the best customer service after that. Not only did the server not give her a hard time, but the GM/manager Joe also came over to see if she liked it. I really appreciated seeing that. Especially at a brewery that is known for beer. I walked during the football playoffs expecting a long wait. We were immediately seated, which we were able to pick a standard booth with partitions. The waitress asked if we wanted any drinks, then she disappeared for more than 30 minutes. Unbelievable!!! I noticed the staff were seated at the bar socializing with other customers. I even noticed the manger, who was actually polite. The waitress however was rude and short. We also noticed the table in front of us received constant attention. After waiting for out waitress, we had to call someone for assistance. We ordered the hot honey chicken and a cheeseburger. Although the restaurant was empty, it took another 30 minutes to get our food. We actually saw our food sitting under the heat lamp, which I wasn't surprised when our food arrived lukewarm. The burger was pretty good, but the chicken sandwich was a little tough. I barely tasted any spices or honey. The house cut fries were good. The manager tried to make for us disappointment by removing the food off the bill and offering us dessert. He seem like a genuine nice guy. However some of his staff were rude. I started out with a Gin and Jam which tasted unique and so good I had to order another. My main course was the Wagyu burger. The meat, cheese, and onions were perfectly paired. We had to scan a code to view the menu on our phones. There's a beer menu, a drinks menu and a food menu. There are items on the lunch menu that are not on the dinner menu (hubby really wanted that Reuben sandwich!). Hubby tried out one of their beers (meh) and I had a glass of wine. Since I'm gluten free, my choices are limited to start with and I was sad they had no other GF options. I had hoped for a cider or spiked seltzer or (holding breath) a gluten free beer. They do have a full bar, but I wasn't in the cocktail mood. Hubby ordered a burger, and I had a GF pizza. We were both unimpressed with the food. I was happy that my GF pizza crust wasn't burnt as that seems to be a problem whenever I order one. Even with two servers, we never were asked if we wanted more to drink. They quickly fixed it, but I forgot to ask for more water This place is not easily visible from the street. It's on the north side of Pennsylvania with a red door and a private lot. We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon and the moment we walked in the vibe was welcoming vibe. My husband liked their beer selection and even bought some to go. I tried the one cider they had, but was not disappointed. My husband ordered his usual, cheese curds and there was a bit of a problem with the order. They actually came out a bit after our lunch, but the server immediately came over and told us he forgot to put the order and they comped the curds. It was much more than we expected and we appreciated it. The curds were probably some of the best he has had, the tempura batter was light and not all greasy. I had the chihuahua chicken sandwich , but without the bun. The chicken was topped with salsa, avocado and cheese. My husband had the Sweetie. The chicken was massive , so sweet! We had 4 adults and one teenager. Ambiance was ok. Sadly, much of the food was cold, and way overpriced for what you got. The almost $20 chicken sandwich had a breast so flattened that they likely got 7 sandwiches out of one breast. The Mac and cheese sounded great...but was missing the melted cheese. My kind of brewery. Two Hound has a rustic sort of look about the interior. Seating is offered at bar, booth, table and outdoors. Hound has 6-8 of their own crafts on tap, as well as 7-8 guest beers to choose from. I always try to drink beer made by the brewery when possible. The next best option is a collaboration craft which they had one offering for; an English porter they made with Miskatonic called Nazgul. This sucker was absolutely delicious. Two glasses later I was ready for a growler to go. The rest of the beer menu is pretty well-rounded with an option for most palette's. Choosing our dinner was tough given the many options we wanted to try. So we went with four app's: Brussel sprouts, cheese curds, pulled pork nachos and baked pretzels. I mainly worked on the sprouts and thoroughly enjoyed them. The cheese curds were delicious too, the nacho's..although the pork had a good flavor, fell a little flat. My son rammed down the pretzels in record time and I couldn't get my hands one one. Guess they were good. Have always had a good experience here until we visited on a Tuesday evening a couple of weeks ago. Service was atrocious, particularly our server. The beers they serve are unique so we asked our server for some additional information on them including which beer would be similar to Stella and which one would be similar to Miller Lite. The server just said he didn't know and that they did not have those. He then walked away without taking even our drink orders and said he was busy and would come back. There were only about 2 other tables occupied in the dining room and a few people were sitting at the bar. It appeared our server was working both the dining room and the bar. Perhaps someone called in and they were short staffed or possibly on a Tuesday only one person works both the bar and dining room. When our nachos arrived they were cold. Our server never came back to check on us until over 10 minutes later so we just ended up eating the cold nachos. The music that was playing throughout the course of our stay was very loud and bordered on heavy metal. We then asked our server if it would be possible to change the music considering the place was nearly empty. His response was sarcastic and the stated "good luck with that on a Tuesday night". For the majority of our stay we could see 2 kitchen staff members in the kitchen just standing, looking bored and staring out into the dining room. There was no sign of a manager working. What a disappointing experience. At this point I'll give them the benefit of a doubt and just chalk our experience up to being there on an off night. Perhaps the restaurant should not be open on Tuesdays if they cannot employ the proper staff. read more

Their craft beer is outstanding. I recommend the hazy IPA. The brewpub is the best I have seen in DuPage County. I did not try their food. I will save that for next time. read more

My husband and I came here for a last minute date night on Tuesday, and were seated indoors right away. It was a beautiful day, so the large open windows were a nice touch. Also, I love the decor and feel of the place - cozy. First - they were out of cheese curds. That was a huge let down for us. It was a Tuesday...shouldn't they have had enough curds for an entire week at that point? I ordered 3 sample beers, and wasn't truly wowed by any of them. Although, the tropical IPA was pretty good (that's coming from someone who hates IPAs). My burger wasn't memorable (the old fashioned burger), but it was good enough. It might have been medium-rare instead of my requested medium, because I didn't get enough char flavor. I only ate half (if it was really good, I might have eaten the whole thing), and my son ate the leftovers that night. The fries were just okay. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich, which he said was just alright. Maybe it was an off day. I may stop in again to try the pork nachos because I hear they are great. read more

So when my admin asked where I wanted to have my department end of the year dinner, I told her to find me some place unique that has "style". Enter Two Hound Red. A play on the number "200", this quaint brewery was converted from the 100 year old bones of a grocer/apothecary, utilizing materials salvaged from the internal demo. It has a rustic charm that speaks to the man cave urgings while still being inviting. I found the staff to be gracious and accommodating and the food to be good. Having left my receipt from the previous evening where we had them cater our event I had the opportunity to experience them both as a catering site and a lunch venue. I ordered the Old Fashion with bacon and American cheese. Juicy, the burger was prepared perfectly with the bacon crisp and thick. The experience the night before was replicated in their table service. I recommend the place. The food is good and the service is great. read more

2 Hound Red is as much about the food as it is about the beer. The menu is creative and well done. They have several great salads, rare for a brew pub. The beer cheese soup is very good, the wings are enormous and well done. As far as the beer, don't expect any juicy IPAs or pastry stouts. The brewer favors traditional styles like lagers, brown ales, etc. Speaking of brown ales, their "Little Brown Paws" is a great representation of the style. read more

The side salad was fresh with the perfect amount of dressing. And you can't beat the covered outdoor patio for a great spot to eat, drink, and people-watch.
