This place is awesome for gluten free diners. Most items on the menu and even a few cocktails are labeled gf. We started with the fried calamari. It was delicious. It was nice for my non-gluten free husband and I to finally be able to enjoy fried food at a restaurant together! He noticed the breading flavor was different from typical fried calamari, but was still excellent. It is rare that I can order mac 'n' cheese at a restaurant, so naturally I did. I had it with the pulled pork, which was delicious. I was not able to finish the whole entree, and it reheated well the next day. We didn't have room for dessert, but because there are a few gf options, we will certainly be back! read more

I had a really hard time rating this place! This is my favorite restaurant in the suburbs! My husband and I are in LOVE with the food here! Their gluten free farm to table menu can't be beat! But that is the ONLY reason we come here! When you walk in it's like you are going to a funeral! The hostess makes you feel bad if you don't have a reservation even though the place is empty. Then you go to your table and the wait staff acts like they are doing you a favor for waiting on you. One time the waitress actually told us our table was only open for an hour! What?!?! One time we had to wait for our waitress to finish her room service responsibilities throughout our whole visit. It's a bizarre third dimension type experience. This is my favorite restaurant around. I have celiac/coeliac disease and am strictly gluten-free. The reason I love this place so much is because it is safe and nearly all menu items can be made gluten-free (safely for celiacs). I'm not used to being able to order off a huge menu and feel so safe about it. The waiters/waitresses are kind and knowledgeable about the food as well. Bread is served pre-meal and they even have gluten-free bread. The menu also changes due to the seasons, so there's always variety. One negative is that there is an additional charge for gluten-free items (I think $3). As another reviewer said, this is even for items that are naturally gluten-free, but they are charging for cleaning the pans. It is a bit odd to charge extra for that (for food, I understand), as it makes it seem like it is a hassle to do, but it is worth it for peace of mind, in my opinion. Most places charge extra for the bread or pasta, which I get as it is often naturally more expensive, but never for simply cleaning an omelet pan. I hope the restaurant looks into changing that process. Regardless, this is the best place to go out with celiac/coeliac. Rest easy friends. Still, it's good to let them know it's celiac beforehand, but I feel quite comfortable eating here. read more

Our second visit to Glen Prairie was a major departure from our initial visit. Everything was top notch from the warm bread and herb butter to the mini desserts that we tried. I started with the Baby Wedge salad drizzled with a creamy dressing with crumbled blue cheese. It was quite a hunk of iceberg and could be comfortably shared between two people. We both ordered the Eggplant Involtini. We both said "Wow"! Breaded and baked eggplant wrap with roasted garlic ricotta and then topped with marinara sauce and fresh mozzarella cheese. The marinara sauce was fresh and not too sweet or acidic. All of the ingredients tasted so fresh. The portion was ample and we were able to take one of our "wraps" home. We ordered a side of creamy polenta to share. This was sublime! I love polenta and you don't see many restaurants offering it. The Glen Prairie version was truly one of the best that I have had - very buttery and smooth. We finished our meal with two mini desserts. I had raspberry sorbet along with a cup of Lavazza coffee and my wife loved the mini Bananas Foster. We had 2 martinis, 2 glasses wine, one Baby Wedge salad, two Eggplant Ivoltini, one polenta side, 2 mini desserts and one coffee. Total bill with tax = $102. I think that is a very good value. Our server, Kella, was excellent. All in all, we are glad we returned. This was a memorable meal. read more

Glen Prairie is my favorite restaurant in the suburbs. ALL of the suburbs. I came on Yelp expecting to see all 5-star reviews and was surprised to hear others had less than excellent experiences. It was that good. I grew up down the street from where Glen Prairie is now located and knew the adjoining hotel as "where the beanie baby conventions are." As such, I was really skeptical of any nice restaurant attempting to set up shop on the premises. Well color me happy! What a nice surprise. This place is spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and staffed by the nicest people I've ever encountered in a restaurant. We chose GP for Mother's Day brunch. I walked up to the front door with a large present in my arms. The host saw me through the windows and literally sprinted outside to help me. 5 stars for chivalry! Our waiter Robert was chatty and friendly but still professional and knowledgeable. He made recommendations when asked and served us quickly and accurately. The bus boy politely and unobtrusively asked to clear plates whenever our table was getting too crowded. Props to him, because I can't remember ever interacting with a bus boy at a restaurant yet this guy made me feel well cared for. My mimosa was strong and the juice fresh. My mom ordered hot tea and was presented with a case of organic options. Her pick was yummy. We LOVED the hummus, pita bread and veggies. It came out warm and salty and satisfying. I was tempted to lick the plate, - as was Grandma. I ordered chevril-encrusted northern pike with sauteed green beans and fancy macaroni and cheese. My fish was cooked to perfection and flavorful. The green beans were crisp and provided contrast to the gooey parmeasean mac and cheese. My mom's spinach salad came with goat cheese, fresh raspberries and blackberries. It was a work of art. Grandma got a turkey club big enough to feed all 4 of us. Aunt Linda enjoyed her chicken wrap with applewood bacon. Dessert was champagne pomegranite sorbet and coffee. Everyone had their leftovers boxed up. All said and done, we had mimosas, tea, pop, an appetizer, 4 meals, dessert, and a cappucino for $80. That's a great value for such a lovely place. The bathrooms are gorgeous, the fireplace is cozy, and the bus boy offered to help carry my stuff out to the car. I cannot wait to drag everyone I know back here. We went to Glen Prairie with my parents and teenage kids on Saturday for my birthday just to try someplace new. I had really high hopes after reading the reviews and it was just OK. Started with the flat bread and asparagus caprese and a golden beet salad to share. The flat bread was the favorite appetizer. Very thin crust with mozzarella, fresh tomatoes and a balsamic and pesto drizzle. The beet salad had about 5 small cubes of beet in it and a very thin smear of goat cheese on 2 crostinis. You couldn't taste the goat cheese. There were a lot of greens but I was disappointed with the lack of beet in the beet salad. The waitress made a point to tell us how the mac and cheese was on Chicago's best. It hot, creamy and cheesy. Everybody agreed that the best part was the cracker crumbs on top. I had the walleye. 2 cubes of pan fried walleye with mac and cheese and string beans. The thick cube of walleye was rubbery so I'm not sure if it was over or undercooked, String beans were very crunchy and underseasoned. My Dad and daughter had the meatloaf which was by far the favorite entrée on the table. Two slices with a tomato sauce over mashed potatoes topped with onion strings. Both raved about the meatloaf. My husband had the skirt steak and he said he could get a better cut of meat at the local Mexican place we go to. Mom had chicken francaise which our waitress said is her 2nd favorite entrée on the menu. Mom said it was good and left it at that. Teenage son had a burger and said it was a burger. Nothing great about it I think if we needed to gluten free the place would have made a better impression because almost every entrée could be prepared GF. My husband and I live nearby and this is one of our favorite spots. I am gluten-free and they have an amazing understanding of this allergy and almost everything on the menu can be made GF! For GF friends, their soups are always GF (which is really hard to find), their flatbread is outstanding and so is their homemade mac and cheese! Sometimes their service is a little slow so we dont tend to go if we are in a hurry - which we rarely are anyways. We dined here for several nights while staying at the adjacent Crowne Plaza Inn Hotel. We were so happy too! This place is great, the staff is very welcoming and attentive. The food is great too with MANY GF options. We received warm GF bread as a bonus. After a long day of traveling and arriving late, their mac and cheese baked with penne and topped with a cracker crust hit the spot. It was delicious paired with a light and fresh salad for balance. Their veggies and grilled chicken fresh. I was a fan of the honey mustard chicken sandwich and French Onion soup the next day. Entrees felt light and filling and were not heavy. Everything that I didn't order and saw pass by looked great. Options for everyone. Definitely would recommend if you are in the area, staying at the hotel or not! read more

A coworker recommended Glen Prairie, and as luck would have it I was able to obtain a $25 restaurant.com coupon. So, a buddy and I wandered over one rainy Saturday evening. The restaurant is attached to this rather unattractive hotel, so one might get the idea that it's just a burger type of joint....but no. The inside is modern and clean without looking sterile. My companion and I both went with the heirloom tomato salad, which was absolutely to die for. I felt like my taste buds exploded from the flavorful tomatoes, while the balsamic vinegar and olive oil were definitely "top shelf". I went with the mac and cheese with pulled pork on top for dinner. Even if it was a heart attack on a plate, it was creamy, decadent and exactly what I was looking for in comfort food. My companion went with the chervil crusted pike, and was equally impressed. The only downside to this place is the price. Even with the coupon, we spent quite a bit. It was worth every penny though, and I'm definitely looking forward to going back with the hubs on a future "date night". read more

They say you never get a second chance to make a first impression. However, after my poor experience in my prior visit I was invited back to give Glen Prairie a re-do. This visit was everything I was hoping for. Service was very good. Enjoyed the grits and shrimp appetizer. Dinner of salmon and prime rib were both cooked to perfection and wonderful. Dessert was a delicious piece of chocolate cake shared between the wife and I. It was a literal 180 from my prior visit and this made me very happy as I'm not that harsh of a critic (life is way too short to carry a negative disposition). I look forward to returning to this establishment with the memory of dinner 1B in my head and 1A archived away. read more

My 137th review. thats an occasion, right? Second visit to Glen Prairie was on the nite of the food & wine fest in StCharles, after sampling them at said fest (first visit was 1+ year ago). Had the same server as first visit; hard to forget the heavy australian/NewZealand? accent. Nice to know a place is able to retain its staff. I imagine thats difficult to do in the biz. Wife & I do try to patronize the places that support the local farm movement, and Glen Prairie definitely supports it. We had a coupon for a free app. Wife is gluten-free, as well as corn free, so we asked for the duck tacos to be, is 'deconstructed' the right word? They were more than happy to oblige. Order came out with all the fixin's in nice separate piles, so we were able to assemble at will. The grilled pineapple salsa was excellent. With the main entrees, we certainly weren't very original. At the fest, they were sampling their braised short ribs. Wife ordered the braised short ribs. I ordered the open-faced short rib sandwich; comes with a fried egg on top (the caramelized onions were a little strong, but good). Both were excellent. I realized about 2 bites from completely finishing my entrée that I was absolutely stuffed to the gills, and that I should have realized that at the half-way point, and taken half home. Oh well, I polished it off. A definite plus is that they offer all of their desserts in 'mini' sizes. We were too stuffed to have any, but even that was a tough decision because most items on the dessert menu were things we love. We will be back. read more

Came in on a Sunday at an off hour so seating was not a problem. Wait staff was very attentive. They serve contemporary American and the best part-it is organic and have locally sustainable ingredients. The patty pan squash are the best I've ever had. The seared chicken was exceptional. It was cooked just right . They also have a vegetarian dish which I will try on my next visit.. Everyone at our table was very satisfied with their meals. They have a good selection of desserts as well as mini portions of those desserts. The food is good, healthy and we're supporting local farmers-- a win win situation. read more

This review has 2 parts, the Food would get 4 stars but the service would have 1 star so I settled on 3 since I think it is easier to fix service then bad food and I will be back. Food: I am gluten free so the extensive gluten free options were delightful. Went for lunch and had the hummas, pulled pork sandwich and cookie dessert. all VERY good. I will def be back for breakfast. Service: the place was FREEZING! I can understand your thermostat at 50 when you have a resturant full of people but there was 3 tables including ours that is a bit excessive. This is also where our serivce to begin with was appalling. Our waiter came over and got our drink order which was a bit interesting since he did not understand when my friend asked if they had any "fresh juices", so he brings the drinks, we ordered all water, and then disappears for 25 minutes. We then ask the hostess for our waiter, she finds him and he still does not come over but preceeds to take care of other things. Another 10 minutes and we get a manager and ask for a new waiter. About 5 minutes later the new waitress Brianna comes and she was absolutley delightful, she would get 5 stars for service. The manager did come over and apologize and take some off the bill to compensate which was nice but I do think the place needs a revamp in service and management. They do try and "fix" things once gone wrong but do not put any effort in PREVENTING the problems. We also had asked what the soup and sandwich of the day was and not one waiter new because the kitchen had not told them yet. We were there at 130pm, def a lunch hour, this is where I blame Managment and poor communication. read more

Glen Prairie, what happened? The last few months have led to some disappointing visits. I hope this is not a sign that you are going away, but I'm seeing an awful lot of parallels with some other recent reviews about service. These recent visits are disappointing because I feel like Glen Prairie could be an absolute gem in the suburbs...if they could just get their act together. Anyway, I'll start with the good, and that's the food. I've eaten here a dozen times, give or take, and I always order something different. My guests are the same way and we have never been let down with the food. It's fresh, well-prepared, and balanced. Quality is excellent and everything is very satisfying, especially the brunch menu. My brother has ordered from the lunch menu a few times and remarked that it was very solid too. The size of the menu is just right, in my opinion: enough choices for everyone without getting that Cheesecake Factory vibe where there's ten pages of things to pick from. I'm glad that Glen Prairie has decided to focus on preparing food well rather than just offering a million choices (quality over quantity, in other words). Sadly, the last two visits have been BIG let downs in the service department, and both times it was different servers. One recent visit had our server deliver four of the five entrees, then totally forget there was a fifth person and act confused when we flagged her down to inquire about it. The missing food wasn't anything weird, either (chicken sandwich, I think), and somehow even after we flagged the server down it still took 20+ minutes to get the food out. This server just wasn't attentive to our needs and didn't seem to understand the cadence of serving people: greet them, take a drink order, bring the drinks out, take the food order, bring the food out. The worst part of this is that the place wasn't packed with people so it's clear she was just oblivious or poorly trained on how to wait on tables. The most recent visit was on Father's Day, and the service was again very problematic, yet the place wasn't packed. Our server seemed to do okay with the few other tables near us that he was responsible for, but again the cadence was all wrong. He took a good 10-15 minutes to take our drink order, then kept disappearing and never emerging with the drinks. We had to ask him where the drinks were, but again he vanished and then started waiting his other tables. I kid you not, we sat for 30 minutes before any drinks showed up...not even water. I was flabbergasted. The drinks did eventually show up about 2 minutes before the food came. Once the food arrived, the server was against a ghost and only came back when we had finished eating. What if there was a mistake? What if we weren't happy with something? He did apologize for the service as we got the bill, saying things were a bit crazy today, but I was really confused by this since the restaurant was (A) not even close to full and (B) he was just plain-old forgetting about us. I will give Glen Prairie one more chance to redeem itself. I really enjoy the food, but the service is sliding downhill VERY fast. I don't know if there's a training gap with staff, if the kitchen is having issues, or there is something else behind the scenes, but the problems are blatantly obvious. Some other reviewers suggested understaffing, but I don't think that's the problem here. There were plenty of other servers working both of these problematic visits but the ones we had at our table just didn't know what they were doing. read more

My wife and I took our son and daughter-in-law to this restaurant for Sunday noon meal. We had been there before and found it okay, if not great. The place was nearly empty: one other table we occupied by a group of 6. My wife liked her pork tenderloin dish, and my daughter-in-law liked her Mac 'n' Cheese. I ordered a Shrimp and Grits starter as my main dish ($10) and coffee. The coffee was nice, but not exceptional. My shrimp and grits was sub-par. Instead of Tasso ham and a sauce with that as the flavor, which I had liked on a visit to Hilton Head Island, SC, they used small pieces of bacon, and the grits were not to my liking. Shockingly disappointed. I'll be honest, what prompted me to write this review has nothing to do with the food. We've long loved this restaurant and the food, which has been fairly consistent (though dipping just slightly recently) over the years. We've been regulars for quite a while, bringing relatives when they come to town for a visit and even turning other locals on to the place. This is why we were so shocked this past Easter Sunday. We attended the Easter brunch at Glen Prairie last year and had a great time. Though a bit expensive, the quality of the food is definitely above your typical buffet fare. We looked forward to our meal all day and had even settled on a later, 2 p.m. reservation just to make sure we could get in. Upon arriving, we noticed a fairly empty dining room, but were surprised when we were seated. Apparently, in order to avoid turning away reservations they had decided on opening additional seating in the hotel. Fair enough. However, the expanded seating area was a dimly lit, undecorated space used for meetings and conferences that required you to walk down one hall, take a left by the hotel lobby, pass the bathrooms and on another 100 feet or so into the conference room. Hardly a restaurant experience worth $40 a head considering you aren't actually in the restaurant itself and run the risk of your food already getting cold as you make your way past the hotel lobby bathrooms on the way to your table. We politely let the wait staff know that we wouldn't be dining with them and made our way back out of the hotel, passing several diners being ushered to the new dining space, all looking confused and less than thrilled. We could not believe how poorly the management acted here. If you're going to set up shop in a conference room and pass it off as a dining experience so you don't have a turn away a few bucks, let the diners know that in advance. I made a reservation for YOUR restaurant, not just the privilege of eating your food however I can get it. We may go back; we may not. A change of management would definitely influence that as I'm not sure what to expect upon making another reservation. read more

LOVE Glen Praire. This is my main go to place for delicious, healthy fare in the 'burbs. And by healthy, I mean up to my standard, which is pretty "extreme". They have 100% (yes, 100%) grass fed meats and they use organic produce (when possible which you can ask if something is or not). I really enjoy the kale salad and the kale is organic from what I understand (since kale is a dirty dozen veggie). The food is excellent and the atmosphere is even better. 5 stars!! read more

Yesterday morning, I had never even heard of Glen Prairie. Oddly enough, I've now had it two times in the last two days. They had a booth at the Food & Wine Tasting that I went to yesterday. They were serving braised short ribs & sweet potatoes. I HATE sweet potatoes. Maybe it's because we never had them growing up but either way, I'm not a fan. I didn't want to be rude though, so I just took the plate with the intent on eating the beef and pitching the rest. I decided to try the whole plate and I'm glad I did. Everything on the plate was so good. The ribs were extremely tender and I'm not quite sure what the juice or sauce was, but I wanted to lick my plate. My husband gets really embarrassed but I have been known to do that once or twice when the sauce is just that good. I resisted though because there were other Yelpers there and I didn't want to be the source of a new YT conversation. The sweet potatoes were very delicious too. They weren't overly sweet and were the perfect texture to be paired with the meat. All weekend I knew I had the food & wine tasting on Saturday and a bridal shower on Sunday. I threw the invite away so I really had no idea where this thing was. I just knew it was at the Crown Plaza in Lombard. When I pull up and see Glen Prairie, I was like oh no way, what are the odds? There was salad, bread and a pasta bar served. My friend and I just assumed it was going to be appetizers and not a full meal as a lot of showers are, so I ate before I left the house--yeah..the one day I decided to cook. I didn't want to be the only one not eating though, so I did try some of the tortellini and the marinara sauce. It was extremely tasty. The marinara sauce was homemade and had chunks of tomatoes and basil in it. I'm a fan. I haven't had a ton of food from Glen Prairie but what I've had has been amazing so far, so it gives me high hopes. The shower was in a semi-private room near the bar area.The service was really good and our water glasses were always filled. The only thing that made me scratch my head a little was when the host of the shower said that she had to take out insurance in order to have the restaurant allow them to bring a cake in. Not really sure if it's because they are scared of someone choking on a piece of cake and the restaurant being liable, but I probably wouldn't recommend bringing a cake if you're planning a party here. i'm a big fan of Glen Prairie and can't wait to make it back soon. read more

Excellent service, delicious food, perfect cocktails. The sazerac was perfect. I had the salmon and my husband had the pike. The salmon was cooked impeccably and the sides complemented it perfectly. The pike was served with locally sourced mac n cheese that was so delicious. The fish itself was tasty as well. For desert, we had the brownie. It was really delicious. Sweet, rich, with the perfect touch of salt. Served with vanilla ice cream (or was it gelato) and vanilla bean whipped cream. Yum Yum!! We will definitely come here again. read more

This restaurant, adjacent to the Crown Plaza hotel in Glen Ellyn, is surprisingly very good and reasonably priced. We shared the grilled Sweet Corn Bruschetta and it was both innovative and delicious- one of the best Bruschettas I have ever tasted, if not the best. For the main dish, I had the rainbow trout and it was freak and very good. It came with fingerling potatoes and spinach. The potatoes were excellent, but, personally, I do not care for cooked spinach. The other members of our group (2) were also very happy with their food. We were in a rush, so we requested fast service, and we got it, but we had to skip the desert. We have enjoyed this restaurant before, but, I think that it has only gotten better. Had look forward to dining at Glen Prairie and was so disappointed. The service and management of the customers is awful. They had open tables and were not seating people. The service is slow. They don't manage the tables or the servers. We talked with the "executive chef" and he didn't seem to be interested in really understanding the issues. He just wanted to give me something for free so we would not be so upset. I was so disappointed that I even contacted Kim W. who supposedly manages the property for the Parent company. Yeah...no return call from her either. I guess the idea of customer service and really valuing your customers starts with the people managing the location. Will never go back as it stays Glen Prairie, but I don't give it much time. Sorry to be so negative, but it was just such a bad experience. read more

I've never been disappointed by the food here so far. The service is great too.
