The Latte I ordered was made with espresso from a cheap automatic coffee machine. I could see from the drive through them making it and the machine being used. Yet I paid $6. I frequent a lot of coffee shops, and Glenview Grind for many years at the old and new location. Granted I moved to Chicago and this was the first visit in many months. But it's dishonest for a business to charge $6 for a plain latte from essentially a gas station type machine. Maybe if you add a bunch of sugar and flavor you might fool me but it tasted gross as expected. And for $6? Giving it 2 stars because maybe this was an outlier, and it used to be a 4 star place with decent espresso. But I have had poor drinks the last year or 2 at the new location. Glenview Grind is a fantastic, locally-owned coffee place in this quiet Chicago suburb. The staff are always friendly and competent at brewing strong, tasty caffeinated beverages. They brew Intelligentsia coffee, one of my favs and, unique to other coffee spots, they have many interesting sweets (including vegan and gluten free options). One of the best tasting options is the Nutella latte, a drink so decadent it is both beverage and dessert! The regular vanilla latte is also quite good. I don't think you can go wrong with anything here. The (relatively) late hours of operation are a huge bonus as well. read more

First of all let me say I am not bias of the cafe because I have a friend who is an employee, I am as open and honest about every business that patron. I have only been to this location once, but from the first experience I would definitely be back. The staff is friendly and while I was there could identify not only the drinks of customers but also the customers' names. As a former barista and hospitality professional I find this to be a great asset to any business. The staff is genuine and it real shows. The drinks well let's just say ummmm.... Amazing!!!!! I got one of the signature drinks that the Glenview Grind offers this is the Nuetella latte. Yes Nuetella!!! I don't even want to think about the nutritional information about this drink, or maybe I can. It can't be bad for you if it tastes that good can it? I will definitely be back. I was in Glenview for the day and just needed a place to work for a bit, and this was the perfect spot! Not crowded on the Tuesday morning I went. Free parking in the lot in the back. Super friendly staff! Decent place to get work done, although I couldn't find an outlet near the table I was at. The nutella latte was good and it helped that your first check-in gets you $2 off any of the specialty drinks. Let me just say that this is a review that will be updated as I go back and try it again. The new owners took over when Caribou left. They updated the decor a little. They got rid of the fireplace? painted it a little brighter but mostly kept the place as was. Its not something you could completely rearrange. Ill start with the good. I had the "Bulldog". Dark roast coffee and espresso mix. And a chocolate chip bagel. Both were very good. The food overall I think will be good. I think they're getting most of their baked goods from Maiers Bakery. It was their first day. I think it was a rough start. So I assume they'll iron out any issues. They need a better plan for ordering and paying. It was confusing and dysfunctional. Pick an employee, order, pay and get the goods. Their was too much shuffling back and forth between employees and the registers and the pick up spot. Add another menu board so you can actually read the lettering. Most of the lettering was too tiny. I'm far sighted so I should've been able to read it. They serve other stuff besides coffee and bagels but that will be another trip when I can read the menu. When I go back for my next Bulldog, Im sure it will be amazing. So great to have a local drive-thru coffee and food! I live in Evanston but try to get to The Grind whenever I can.

Located formerly at a Caribou, parking can be a little difficult if you're visiting for the 1st time because you don't know there's a garage in back since there really isn't any street parking. However, we did notice a lot of people come in from the front entrance so there was a fair amount of walk-up or local traffic. The decor is pretty much the same as the former Caribou: open dark beams, color scheme, chalkboard in the corner for children, location of creamer/sugar/napkins, location of coffee beans. I question whether they use Metropolis considering the large red and black bags on the side. I did like the usage of flat screen tvs for the menu since it could show you samples of their signature drinks. They also had several flat screens around the cafe, although I found it strange for this type of crowd that 2 of the 3 were on ESPN. The coffee quality was quite good. I got a coffee with a shot of espresso (bulldog) and since I was drinking it for here, it was nice to get it in a mug. Even though the place is out of my neighborhood, I'd definitely come back for some good coffee! read more

This is a cute little coffee shop in the glen. I got a nutella vanilla latte and it tasted nothing like a latte. I wonder what the actually espresso drinks taste like. I personally enjoy strong beverages or the strong taste of espresso and this specialty drink was lacking in that! However service is great and friendly and the decor was nice and cozy! read more

I'm so glad I stopped going to the always-freezing Starbucks a half-mile up Waukegan to check out this place! It's a very friendly, warm, cozy space with huge TVs showing sports (usually) and great coffee and a far better and cheaper selection of foods than Starbucks. There's a little blackboard for kids to draw on and they have interesting work by local artists displayed on the walls. Different groups come in to sell handcrafted items to the customers; overall it is a very nice place to sit and work on my computer all day drinking their coffee and other hot drinks (they have a delicious hot cider right now with whipped cream - wonderful!). There is parking in the back of the store accessible from both Waukegan and Glenview Rds. My only "complaint" is that they aren't open 24-hours a day; if they were I'd go here to work and study all night. read more

Sadly, I wish that we would have turned right around when we smelled the plug-in air "freshener" that emitted a sickly reek as it washed around us about 10 feet away from the front door when the person in front of us walked in. Any food service place that chooses to use one of these is clearly not preparing food that smells good enough. These also can make people actively sick. Unfortunately, a friend of ours had said she had a good experience here with the coffee and a pastry, so we pressed on and walked around to use the back door. Our order was: S'more Hot Specialty Drink - this was enjoyable. Super sweet as expected. Chai Latte - I don't know what they gave us. It was not a Chai Latte. Maybe the mix was several years stale, or maybe they reused a mixer. However we were already so discouraged by the food we received (see below) that we didn't even bother to press this issue. Canadian Bacon, Egg & Cheese Muffin - this was the saddest little sandwich I have ever received from anywhere. The "muffin" was clearly from a wholesale bulk package, and the egg and cheese were of the McDonald's variety. The Canadian Bacon at least had the decency of being impossible to get wrong, although it too probably came from an Oscar-Mayer package. The whole thing was warmed up in a microwave and too soft/chewy for a breakfast English muffin. This is one of those few cases that someone manages to be worse than McD's - overcharged and underperformed. Oatmeal - Glenview Grind managed to even be incapable of preparing pre-packaged instant oatmeal. We were given a bowl with the dry oatmeal dumped into it and some tepid water poured on top. When we pointed out that this physically could not become edible they suggested that we put the provided plate over it to allow it to "heat". We allowed 5 minutes of this nonsense and brought it back up and had to instruct the employees on how to microwave a bowl of oatmeal so that the water gets hot, which is how oatmeal cooks. It took almost 10 minutes to complete this 3 minute task. Pastry - something with almonds on top. The pastry was enjoyable (a bit dry). Ordering it though... the annoyance of the cashier was evident when we asked her what the items in the display were. Sure, there were 3 people in line behind us, and clearly the employees knew them as some came out to talk and laugh with them instead of completing orders, but if you don't label your display, you need to be ready to talk about what is in your display. Quite frankly, if the price of everything was marked down about 20% and they moved to a small college town, this place would fit right in. As it is, its rather shocking that anyone buys food here... which, I guess, if the workers never get to practice, could explain the poor quality. We will not come back. Starbucks charges the same for much much better. read more

This place is clean, offers a nice selections of drinks and nibbles, and most of all, the staff is friendly and caring! I can't tell you how much weight this last point carries. Today, it's so hard to find staff that genuinely helpful. It seems as if these baristas enjoy working there - and it shows. Thought inside was mostly clutter or narrow spaces. Seemed very little thought was put into seating and set up. The Latte was served in a regular Coffee Mug. Not good. Either buy wide mouthed ceramic cappucino mugs or serve them ALL to GO in paper cups. The espresso seemed to be overextracted and the Latte was served less than hot. Better than the crap served at Starbucks but not by much. The quality of the drink nor the comfort of the environs would compel me to return. read more

I've had good experiences with Glenview Grind in the past, but two recent ones have been horrible. In my last visit, I ordered 2 drinks and 2 bakery items in the drive thru. When I got up to the window, they had me pay and continued to hand me an egg bagel, a vanilla milk, and an americano, none of which I ordered. I told the workers kindly what was wrong and they were not apologetic, saying they heard an "iced vanilla milk w/three pumps vanilla" instead of a latte with oat milk, none of which sound alike. They asked me to pull forward so they could give the car behind me their order. After pulling through with 3/4 items, all wrong, I just began to eat the wrong items because I assumed it wouldn't be fixed. While taking a bite, a barista walked outside the store to my car and asks if I got a salmon bagel, which i said yes to because I did, and she was annoyed because she handed me the egg bagel and I was eating it (what was she gonna give it back and hand it back to the original buyer- can't do that because it would be unsanitary with Covid), and handed me an iced latte with normal milk. I spent $22 on my order and received none of my items correctly and no "sorry's" nor fixed items upon request. It clearly wasn't the first time orders there have been messed up based of how unapologetic they were. I love supporting local businesses but experiences like this make it unbearable. read more

The coffee is great, as long as the service is good I'll keep going back. Normally have been happy with their coffee here, and have typically gone through the drive-through. Went in today and that was a big mistake. Was going to pick up a donut for the kids and wanted them to get to pick it out. I ordered my Nitro coffee and it was taking forever. After almost 10 minutes I asked if they had my order. I was told they did, but it was broken and they were trying to fix it. I get that things break, but not telling me and assuming I wanted to wait a long time with my kids is horrible service. At that point I told them I just wanted my money back. Of course it hit me after I left that they refunded the price of the drink, but not the tax. So in all I got to wait a long time, get no coffee and pay for the tax I what I didn't get. Not sure if I'll go back there again. read more

I love this little coffee shop! They have the best lattes and my new favorite, avocado toast. Their avocado toast is amazing...perfectly toasted and topped with avocado, tomato, basil, and some sort of olive oil mix which is delicious. They also have a drive thru which makes it even more convenient especially with little ones. The workers here are always happy and pleasant which makes me want to come back even more! Parking can be competitive as it shares a parking lot with core power yoga, an apartment complex, & the Glenview House. I usually have to circle the lot at least once. My only suggestion is to possibly add some fresh breakfast sandwiches which I know might be challenging as the coffee shop is very busy. I'm thinking more of like an Ipsento type sandwich menu (freshly made egg, bagel, apple, etc). read more

I prefer supporting local business every chance I get as opposed to going to one of the many big corporate coffee shops in the area. I wanted to give the Glenview Grind a good review. I really did. Sadly it was not to be the case. David (the new owners) take over when Goliath (Caribou) leaves. What better opportunity to show off the talents of new owners and their love of coffee. Let's start with the coffee. I love it strong and hot. My preference is black, with an expresso shot. The temperature was no where it needed to be to make it special. More disappointing was that even with the extra shot, it was weak, Not a good start. Do I really need to add two shots to equal what a "red eye" would be at Starbucks or a "depth charge" would be at Caribou? Here's the good news in terms of pastries: It's from Meier's bakery down the street. Their coffee cakes are incredible! The bad news? The slices are so small, you would need to purchase two of them to equal a serving....almost as much as it would cost if you bought a whole one at the bakery. Finally, on a business weekday around 7:30 am, many of the tables were occupied by grammar school students (very well behaved I might add) doing their homework and texting. If I wanted a more quiet "cafe environment", your option, like several of the customers were to read their iPad or laptop along the rear hallways opposite the washrooms. I really want this place to succeed. More private business owners and less corporate giants is a good thing. I will be back, but for now, in my opinion, its just OK. read more

I was super stoked when I found out a new coffee shop was going to replace Caribou Coffee since I was pretty devastated when most Caribous in IL were closed down. Sad to say, I am not a fan of Glenview Grind. I have been here twice to try their coffee and neither time impressed me. I've tried their soy latte and their dirty bear (I believe thats the name?), which is basically a chai latte with a shot of espresso. Both drinks were watery and tasteless. I was so happy to learn that a new coffee house opened in the Caribou space. Today was our first day to try it. We ordered the breakfast sandwich. It was very small, pre-made, and wrapped by the Jimmy Dean Company. The Canadian bacon was paper thin and not worth the money. My husband had a white mocha which was tasteless. The cinnamon roll was good but for $2.99, I thought it a bit high....I don't know if we'll return or not. The atmosphere was not very inviting either. read more
