Stopped here as part of Scott's Pizza Tour and I left super stuffed (and contemplating how I was supposed to eat more pizza). They have a white pizza that super thin and to die for! Love this restaurant!! It's a little East Village gem! If you get there a little early, try to sit in the outside pattio - generally its not that packed and has a very romantic feel to it. I really wanted to give this a 2.5 star but I rounded up to the next highest number just to be generous. We came here for a birthday dinner so I really depended on the Yelp ratings to choose a spot close to Sty-town. You could literally walk by this place and not know that it was there...which we did. The restaurant was starting to get busy around 8'ish on a Friday night and they sat us in the covered garden area. To start they brought out some bread...wait for this..."some" = four 1/4" slices of bread. Ok we didn't come here for bread. We ordered the octopus carpaccio, gnocco (comes with cold cuts) and a salad all of which were delicious. Our entrees were pasta and one of us had the lamb chops....we all agreed the entrees were good but nothing to rave about. The service was all over the place from the wait staff to the busboys everyone seemed to be in a desperate hurry. We saw a bottle of wine almost get knocked over because the waiter was trying to clear a plate. A busboy dropped a bowl because he was carry too much. And the weirdest setup was the garden area itself ....because its enclosed for the winter there is a door separating it from the main dining room. This is not a swinging door so that a busboy with his hands full cannot open it and since we sat next to this door we became the doormen for the staff opening it for them several times. So yeah, coming here has its highs and lows earning it a middling score but I'm remembering a lot more of the bad than good. read more

Came here for my birthday dinner on recommendation from a foodie friend. I loved the ambiance. It's dark and rustic and they have a backyard area that has a retractable roof. You have to walk through the pizza parlor area to get to the main dining room; I felt like I was in GoodFellas (not a bad thing). We started off with the Gnocco appetizer, homemade deep fried dough with a selection of typical northern Italian cold cuts. The fried dough reminded me of the carnival I used to attend when I was 13, so it was very nostalgic but it did in fact pair very nicely with the salami, prosciutto, etc. Also got a Caprese salad, which was very good. The mozzarella was creamy and fresh. I thought maybe the cow was in the kitchen. Three of us had the Pumpkin Ravioli in a butter sage sauce, one of us had the Gnocchi al Pomodoro e Mozzarella di Bufala (homemade potato gnocchi with tomato sauce, buffalo mozzarella and basil), and one of us had the Reginette al Ragu e piselli (homemade reginette pasta with beef veal ragu and green peas). Pumpkin Ravioli was very good and the sauce was good without being too buttery. The gnocci was a bit under seasoned and I thought it could have used more sauce. The reginette was very good and my favorite dish on the table. Dessert was nothing extravagant. The Torta al Cioccolato e Caffé (Chocolate mousse, coffee biscuit, almond, Bavarian coffee) was very good but the Creme Brule had pretty burnt sugar, so it was kind of awkward tasting at first. All in all a good experience, but definitely not the best Italian I've had. I would go back and try some other dishes though. read more

I ordered a torta di ricotta and an ice cream by seamless. First of all they forgot to send utensils and napkins and I was staying in a hotel. the food was substandard (inedible). Darling & delectable. We ate two different pizzas one with prosciutto and arugula (INCREDIBLEEEEE)the other with mozzarella and Italian sausage. I would have loved a little more sausage on the pizza but it was still yummers. We also tried the ricotta ans spinach tortellini. I am not usually a fan of spinach tortellini but this dish was creamy and savory. It sort of melted in your mouth. We indulged in chocolate mousse and a yogurt/fruit parfait-esque desserts. Absolutely amazing!!!! My husband, 14 month son and I went last night for a Friday night dinner. We got there around 5:30-6 and it was empty so perfect for the stroller. They have indoor and outdoor seating so we decided the outdoors was best for us. The only issue we had with this place was that the waitstaff didnt speak very proper English and they all had accents so if its hard for you to understand accents (like m husband) it may be difficult finding what you want to eat. It's not extremely kid friendly but it just so happened there was at least 4 family's with young children! The menu for children is non existent though. Food was SPECTACULAR! Super!!It was my second time at gnocco and I have to say that is the perfect place to enjoy a good italian dinner out in east village! You walk in through a corridor beside an authentic italian pizza oven which brings you to the restaurant where you are welcomed in front of the bar where the bartender Utku makes amasing cocktails! The atmosphere is very nice and cool. The restaurant also have a garden that during winter is covered and heated so don't be scared becase it just feels like being inside! The food is amazing and you can tell that is genuinely home made. We shared a lots of things, gnocco fritto with parma ham and mortadedella and pizza of course but also the gnocchi, meatballs and the carpaccio of salmon and octopus and everything was really good. They also have a good selection of italian wines and the staff is friendly and very efficient at the same time! Ops..I almost forgot the dessert..I've had the tiramisu and it was fabulous but the selection of dessert looked super..I will try that the next time! While the place itself is lovely the food was not, especially for the price. I had the rigatoni with sausage and what I could only explain as pulverized brocolli rabe that had zero flavor. Then for dessert I ordered the nutella calzone which the waitress did not warn me was the size of an actual calzone. But no matter because it tasted like 2 pieces of cardboard with nutella inbetween. At $14.95 perhaps if it tasted edible it's a bargain for 3 people to split- however such is not the case. I had about 4 bites in all. With a plethora of great italian restaurants in the area (Supper, Lavagna, Lil Frankie's, 3 of Cups) you're best to stay away from this place and go somewhere else. read more

We were a party of ten this past Saturday night. There were not enough menus for everyone. My first course of pasta with zucchini came with butternut squash. Which I was not informed of. The steamed Branzini was tasty but the potatoes on the bottom were burnt. Our dinners were served two hours after we were seated and not everyone was served at the same time. I wish I could give negative stars. When we walked in for a 10-person bday dinner on Saturday, the place looked cute. I had surprised my friend really high-end, fancy and delicious cupcakes to share with the table after dinner. The box said "Happy birthday {my friends name}" - so there was no way to confuse it. The waitress nicely offered several times that she would keep the cupcakes in the back so they don't take up space on the table, so I finally agreed. We ordered, and I was shocked that pastas were in the $20+ range. This place had a cute ambiance, but certainly not of a restaurant that would charge that much for pastas. Several bottles of wine later, we all had our meals are were talking away until one of my friends shockingly called out to me. "Look at what I found it my meal." It was a GIANT SCREW IN HER MEAL. Covered in pasta sauce. We could not make this stuff up. What was even worse was that when we told the manager about it, he kind of smirked and became rude and said that he doesn't believe us. He actually fought with us about this for quite some time. We didn't want to put a damper on the birthday night, so we continued to sip on our drinks and asked him for dessert - the specialty cupcakes I had brought with me. THEY LOST OUR CUPCAKES. They said they're not sure what happened to them. Not only were their mistakes and incompetence worthy of a poor rating, but it was how they handled the whole thing that made me even more upset. This place was cute. The back area is adorable and lit up with little lights and the roof probably opens on nice nights. As far as the food we got 4 different pizzas to share among 5 people; truffle, margarita, salaame and mushroom (those are not the names on the menu since I can't remember). I was so excited because it was think crust but then I started eating it and the toppings were great but the pizzas weren't crispy. That ruined it for me. Cocktails were on the expensive side so we ended up getting 2 bottles of wine which were fine. I came here on Monday night with my friend for dinner. We had a reservation for 8 o'clock and showed up on time. We stood at the host stand while the host seated several people who came in after us. After we were noticed and sat down, we had to ask for menus and water. The restaurant was nearly empty and the service was slow and inattentive. I found our server to be annoyed and snappy. Our check sat on our table, ready to be paid, for 15 minutes until finally we stood up and gave it to the waiter. We felt slightly invisible. Thought the experience was uncomfortable, the food was delicious and the restaurant is very quaint. We sat in the covered patio and it was lovely. I got a beautiful pasta with eggplant and peppers and my friend got the butternut squash and sage ravioli. the food is extremely rich, but good. read more

I would prefer to give zero stars. Our food arrived cold after waiting over an hour. We tried repeatedly to ask our waitress for help and she was even alerted by other staff members however she was disinterested in helping us. We did not see her again after ordering. They finally brought someone over to address our cold food however all he did was argue with us and tell us that it looked hot to him. After much back and forth they claimed to reheat our food and then sent over the owner who was extremely argumentative and combative. When our check arrived not only did they add a charge for something we did not order but the owner would not listen to our disputes and continued to yell at us. The owner was extremely rude, challenged us when we tried to complain and was extremely aggressive and disrespectful. If our cold food was not enough to ruin our experience at Gnocco the antagonistic owner made it clear that he had no respect for customers and we were not welcome at his restaurant. There are many other Italian restaurants in the East Village with better food and better service, please avoid this restaurant at all costs. read more
