My husband and I were surprised to find this nearly authentic gem of a British Fish and Chip Shop. My husband ordered The King Henry lll Platter, Fried Oysters, and Clam Strips. My husband enjoyed the crab cake (on the King Henry lll Platter) so much that he moaned and groaned through every bite. I ordered Fish and Chips and a soft Shell Crab. Everything was excellent with the exception of the soft shell crab having the mustard or rather in technical terms the fecal matter not removed prior to batter frying and a portion of the crab shell being slightly hardened as if the crab was in the stage of the shell maturing into its hardened exterior (past the two week soft shell stage). My mother was a skilled expert at cleaning and frying Soft Shell crabs many years ago. The soft shell crabs eyes, and intestinal matter is swiftly removed and battered in a movement so fast, the crab is still moving while being battered. I would have given this restaurants food a 5 star review had it not been for the presentation of the soft shell crab. The next time we went to Go Brit for lunch the Fish and Chips were heavily salted and soggy. The food just was not consistent with quality. This last visit was so disappointing. We haven't been back for some time since the salty soggy Fish and Chips incident. Our last visit takes our review down to 2 stars. Just not consistent at all. The first time we ate at this restaurant the proprietor served us herself. Could the problem be the proprietor can't be at both locations at the same time? What's the old saying? THE BEST fish and chips at the beach. Always freshly fried, light, crispy, and delicious, and nicely portioned. I also really like their tartar sauce because it isn't sweet, just tangy. My daughter declared the Caesar salad "the most delicious" one she had at the beach (she loves Caesar salad and had one every day during the 5 days we were there). The Mini Cooper inside the restaurant is super fun and cool. My daughter loved looking at it. Service is always fast and friendly here. This is a must go to place for lunch if you're at the beach. It's close to the outlets and a good way to decompress after shopping. The key lime pie and sticky toffee pudding were also fabulous. I've been to the UK 5 times in the past 3 years, and sampled all kinds of fish and chips. This vaguely resembles British-style fish and chips. Go Brit serves pollock and only pollock because it is more sustainable. In the UK, you can find cod, haddock and plaice in most chip shops. (And doner kebabs!) I can tell from the texture of the fish that it's frozen and not fresh. The fish is too wet and almost mushy in the finished product. The batter is spot on - crispy and has a traditional flavor that I know of British fish & chips. The "chips" are not cut thick enough and they are fried to a deep golden brown. They are delicious, but they are not British-style which are lightly golden and chunkier. To me, the British style chips pair better with malt vinegar. The flaked salt is a nice touch. Of course, there is malt vinegar on the table. The menu has a lot of British-type offerings like batter-fried sausages and shepherd-style meat or fish pies (mash on top; not the wheat crust pastry style meat or fish pies). The menu really does take some creative liberties to appeal to American palates. Personally, I came for the fish. Since I found it disappointing, it is unlikely that will visit Go Brit in the future. P.S. - offer some bread & butter so patrons can make a chip butty! read more

After trying the Fish & Chips at Rehoboth, and almost swerved off the road when I saw this location - and wondered, the same? IT IS! You walk in and receive the info that the Mini Cooper is NOT for sale - the same decor exists and welcomes you in. Within less than 10 minutes we received our meal and I ordered a double order of fish, chips,(the original) and the potato soup - it was D E L I C I O U S - it was amazing. The welcome was great, it was a perfect stop for the first snow on the eastern shore, and hit the spot perfectly. Right off of Rt. 1 heading south before you hit all of the outlets, lies a little 'pub' called go Brit! I'm not a huge fish & chips guy, but I did like what Go Brit! had to offer. For $11 you can get a huge piece of beer battered fish on top of a bed of thick cut fries. Not the healthiest thing to eat, but you should have known that before entering the restaurant. The fries use a very coarse sea salt for flavoring and each table has a bottle of malt vinegar to add kick to your fries. From the time I walked in until about midway through our visit, every song on the speaker was an old British Invasion tune. While genres did change eventually, all the music is what I would classify as true Oldies (50's and 60's) with a heavy emphasis on British artist. You may not like the music, but I actually grew up listening to it. The whole restaurant is operated by 3-4 people. One person handles the counter, one brings food to your table, one fries up the food. You are asked politely (through their napkin dispensers) to dispose of your own food. I don't think anyone minds terribly. Overall good experience. Would go there again when in the area and want deep fried goodies. read more
