The AYCE offer that they have is a choice of 2 side dishes on top of their ban chan, a soup, and veggies or rice. Good cuts of meat (but small portions). **CONs: semi cramped set up of chairs and tables. The tables were sticky and so were the floors, not clean compared to what I am used to at Oghane. This is my second time going here and I can say with certainty that Gogi is a solid 3 stars. Meats: I really enjoyed their bulgogi. It was tender and sweet, really solid. Their brisket was just okay, I liked that it was thin so it can crisp up! The short ribs were wayyy too fatty, but had good flavor. Appetizers: most of them are mehhh. I wouldn't even bother getting any, except maybe the potstickers. The lobster balls are gross. The vegetable pancake was so thick and doughy. The corn cheese was okay but didn't have much flavor. The salad was literally just lettuce and chopped up veggies. Maybe they forgot to put the dressing?? Service: service was pretty slow for it being after 8pm on a Wednesday night. When we sit down, I noticed the grill plate already had oil residue from no being wash carefully. No big deal, we used paper napkin to clean up the top. The waiter turned on the fire when the meats came. Started putting meat on top of the grill plate. As we were putting meat in the grill plate, I noticed black/brown dirty soapy bubbles come out at the edge of the grill plate openings. See pictures of the grill plate and picture of the paper napkin after we tried to wipe off the black bubbles. We informed the waiter and he changed to another one. But the second grill plate also spitted out black soapy bubbles as it was heated up. Then the third one was also the same. I find out the reason is the grill plate is made of two stainless steel sheets one on top of another so it is almost impossible to wash away anything in between. So we end up using their outdoor solid grill plate and stove instead. I am sure all other tables in this restaurant would have similar problem. If you just put meat on top of the grill plate before it is heat up, you will not see the dirty black/brown soapy bubbles. The meats just cover every thing up or these black soapy bubble become part of your meal. This is not the first time we ran into dirty grill plate at Korean BBQ restaurants. So pay attention to the grill plate when you eat at any Korean BBQ place. I told the restaurant they shouldn't use this kind of grill plate. I hope they listen. The restaurant give us 15% off for the incident without asking. However I still feel I should inform every one about this because I saw they continue to serve other tables using the same style grill plates even after I informed them about the problem. And the tables next to us just put meats on their grill plates and didn't notice anything and just eat... I give two stars because the food is not bad and the manager let us used the outdoor solid plate with portable stove instead. read more

Eh. Heard so many good things about this place and was super disappointed. First, service is terrible. There's clearly not enough people and it's hard to get anyone's attention either to order, clean up, or refill water. Second, meat quality is terrible. Galbi is what I always get and the marinate was off and the meat itself was full of fat and way too chewy. Third, hygiene. Everything is sticky, oily and smelly. Wait time can be very long. I came here on a Saturday at 7:30 and waited for an hour to be seated. I think they keep changing owners because this place always seems to be changing. I usually get the kimchi pancake which is a lot smaller now. The brisket is really good as well and the prom belly. The service was ok. The server checked up on us a couple of times but the food took awhile to come out which I understood because it was a Saturday evening and was busy. Can get really hot in here though. Needs more air circulation and I feel like the fan doesn't work well because smoke kept blowing on my face. Be careful for oil splattering on you which happens often when cooking. We went here just for a regular dinner, little did I know it was going to be more than just that. The reason for this was our amazing server, Chris. Huge shout out to him for doing more than just the extra mile, he did the whole race (if that makes sense). From the moment we were seated to the moment we left, Chris had always been consistent and kind, always making sure we our taken care of. Quality of the food was great too, everything was brought out on time and just as long as you're able to communicate with the servers. The only thing I would complain about is that I wish this place was open later or that there were more locations haha, but I mean you can't have it all. Let me just start by stating that the service was great. Our server was someone who deserved every penny of gratuity he received. We had come in at an odd time, 4:00pm, hence it was too late for lunch and too early for dinner, so we didn't go for the usual K-BBQ meal option. We decided on a Bbq chicken with the house spicy sauce, and some steamed jasmine rice. The portion was generous and the dish was delicious! The Banchan was tasty - I particularly liked the fish cake slices, potatoes, and glass noodles. I normally don't enjoy AYCE kbbq that much because there is usually a sacrifice in the meat quality, but the meat here was decent for AYCE and its price point. I'm somewhat torn between giving it a three star or a four... the meat was decent, appetizers and soup were good, but banchan and dining experience was lackluster. We came for Saturday lunchtime, it was a hot and sunny day and we were seated in one of the tents that uses transparent covering, which was uncomfortably hot. We were constantly drinking water, really wished they have some sort of shaded cover. The banchan, specifically the broccoli and bean sprouts, there were completely bland, its like the forgot to add salt when they cooked it. The most important thing is the meat and there wasn't any big red flags, most of the meat were good except I don't recommend getting the beef tongue because it was really dry and hard to chew. The kimchi pancake was pretty good and I'm glad they have a variety of soup selection (soy bean, soft tofu, kimchi), I got the soy bean paste soup. The stinky-ness of the soup was just right, not too stinky that it's gross but not too little that it lacks the aroma. All in all, I can see why my friend said they would always come here when he was in college (UC Berkeley), it's definitely a great value, just have to accept the little things that are imperfect. read more

With so many good KBBQ places in Oakland I was excited to finally make it out to Gogi Time, especially since it's one of the originals in Oakland. For $30 for dinner you can get AYCE with a mix of tofu stew, pork belly, bulgogi, spare ribs, brisket, sirloin, etc. I recommend making a reservation if you're coming with a large group since the dinner rush here gets a little crazy. If you're down to wait at least there's Blind Tiger/Billiards next door if you need to kill time. We came a little before our reservation time with a group of 16 so I liked how they were willing to accommodate us across 3 tables vs. the tight squeeze at 2 tables (thank you!) Service here was attentive during the dinner rush and especially with our large group. Prior to sitting down the banchan were already waiting for us with a bowl of salad and large bowl of rice vs. you having to order them individually. They were even kind to bring an extra tray that we could store our finished plates on so we had space at our table. | Faves | + Bulgogi + Brisket + Spicy pork belly + Ssam platter | Not so faves | + Spicy rice cakes + Japchae All in all, I think they had a decent selection of the classics you would order at KBBQ with the extra options of spam, hot links, multigrain rice, pancakes, etc. I'll say that Gogi Time is not my fave AYCE KBBQ place of all time but they do have quality options that will leave you stuffed either way. THIS IS MY 400TH REVIEW YAY! I can't believe that I haven't written a review for Gogi Time yet when I've been coming here for years. It's one of my favorite Korean BBQ places in Oakland. It's always mad busy, so make a reservation ahead of time if you can. Dinner is $28 a person for AYCE KBBQ. Here are some of my favorites that I always order: MEATS -Beef Tongue, Pork Cheek, Beef Belly, Beef Brisket, Garlic Pork Belly, LA Style Short Ribs, and Beef Short Steak I don't usually get the saucy meats. Bulgogi here isn't very good and neither is the Spicy Pork in my opinion. Plus the sauce makes your grill turn black very quickly. I suggest ordering brisket during your first round since it cooks the fastest. That way, people aren't impatiently waiting for the other meats to cook. SEAFOOD -Baby Octopus and Mussels Usually I just eat the meat and order a little bit of seafood at the very end if I'm still hungry. Baby Octopus and Mussels are great to mix the textures and flavors up a little bit. Mostly, I'd rather just focus on the meat. APPETIZERS -Kimchi Pancake, Corn Cheese, Steamed Egg, Beef Potstickers and Japchae All of these appetizers are good, but try not to fill up on too many of them so that you can eat more meat. Isn't that the goal of all you can eat? Get the most value for your buck? The appetizers are pretty great though. STEWS -Soft Tofu Stew The stews are just okay in my opinion, but if I had to get one to share for the table, it would be the Soft Tofu one. WRAPS -Ssam Platter and Cheese Dip Get your veggies in! Wrap your meat in lettuce and radish so it helps cut the grease a little. Also eat it for the fiber, you'll be thankful an hour after your meal, trust hahah. Toss the garlic on the grill or eat it raw with your meat, but definitely have it with the bean paste. BANCHAN -Kimchi here is just alright. Radish, Cucumber, Bean Sprouts and Fish Cakes are my favorite side dishes. They keep refilling them, so just ask! PARKING Parking is available in the front and the back of the restaurant. Sometimes they have a security guard, but just to be on the safe side, don't leave stuff in your car. It is Oakland after all. SERVICE Service here isn't too bad, you just have to get their attention. Sometimes they forget certain items but it's because there aren't that many servers and they have a ton of tables. After waiting for a yellow tier status and a very nice warm sunny day, we ate at Golgi Time in their outdoor patio, and had a great meal. Kalbi ribs, Korean fries chicken and KimChee fried rice as ala carte (my wife birthday), the short ribs were excellent in taste and cooked to perfection. I made reservation via Yelp and was seated immediately upon arriving, despite some dirty looks on the other folks waiting in line without reservation. The waitstaff folks were excellent, all wearing masks, and the entire dinner time was not disappointing. Unfortunately, no photos of our meal cuz we were so hungry. I am so happy to say I have finally found my new KBBQ spot in the bay!!!! WHOO! I had an outstanding experience here a few weeks ago and just want to give credit where it is due. The all-you-can-eat menu is literally endless with goodies and items that are hard to come by at any AYCE menu in the bay: CHEESE CORN, steamed egg, fried pancakes, seafood soondubu, japchae, beef potstickers... I'm telling you that's not even half. And the best part is that they are all of great quality. In most AYCE spots who offer appetizers, you lose the quality of the food because owners don't want to lose money in giving a little love and tender to their dishes. It is not the case here!! Everything was delicious, I seriously couldn't handle myself. Also they no longer give you banchan (side dishes) automatically because of waste so don't forge to ask if your party likes to eat them. Regarding the meat- I am usually prefer 100% beef brisket all day every day but the slices here are really thick. I recommend the beef belly for better flavor and texture. Lastly, just a quick appreciation to the amazing staff and service!! Probably the best KBBQ service I have ever had. A few years ago, I saw a few cockroaches and told myself I'd never come again but my friends wants to go so I figured I would go too. The atmosphere is nice and so is customer service. However, my sister's beef bulgogi was tough and leathery and my friend's chicken dalsot was bland and they both had to send back their meals for a refund. Also my friend ordered cheese fries but he never got them until the end of the meal where the manager asked if wanted a different meal order instead, so he had to repeat himself and ask for the cheese fries again. Which btw are just soggy fries with mozzarella melted onto them, for anyone who was expecting them to be cheddary I was okay with my meal but what really got to me was this giant rat just eating food off the floor outside while my table was eating. I know that gogi time is located near a bunch of homeless camps so it's not in their control but I still immediately lost my appetite. The manager came up to talk to us about why we wanted our food to be sent back and then she saw the rat and she kicked it away. One of the WORST ayce I've ever been to. 1. No menu. Waitress literally told us to scan the QR Menu but it didn't have the ayce menu. She didn't have the paper menu and so we resorted to the Yelp menu. 2. Missing orders. Still missing japchae, salt and pepper, and dipping sauces. 3. Lack of service, I literally saw her twice. When we were first seated and the middle when we were hungry af. 4. We didn't get water until when we had to ask, there were empty plastic cups on the table. I went to this place for KBBQ with my friends. We walked in, and the waiter told us to go outside to the side where we would sign up. So, we walked out and went around the place until we saw some outdoor seating and waited there for someone to help us. After a while, a server came and put us on the waitlist and told us that the wait would be around 10 minutes. Overall, it was confusing to us where to wait and where to sign up, the whole process could be more efficient. When we were finally seated, the server quickly got us our first order which we really appreciated. We had lettuce, rice paper, and the side dishes to go with the meat we ordered. However, after the first order, we would need to wave the server down many times to get the next orders or grill changes. There was only one lady working all the tables from my perspective, so I really appreciated her helping us. He checked on ya periodically and had the food coming. The food was delicious! Very flavorful. I've been to two other Korean BBQ's restaurant and would have to say, this one was my favorite. *****HOT POT UPDATE ONLY***** No good thing lasts forever. Gogi Time is no exception. Seven of us went to Gogi Time for their AYCE hot pot last night. At around 7:15pm, the place was completely packed. We were finally seated at a long table at around 7:45pm. We all ordered the AYCE hot pot since it was a super cold evening. With seven people, they only gave us one pot with no individual slotted ladles. A couple people in our party had a hard time reaching the pot! We asked if we could get a second pot and were told there would be an extra $20 charge added to our bill. We all thought it was a bit tacky but fine. Our server, an American male in his 20s who resembled Otto Mann from "The Simpsons", came by to take our order. We ordered a round of Wagyu beef, fatty beef, fish fillets, shrimp, squid, veggies etc and TWO SPRITES. Why are the Sprites in all caps you ask? After reminding Mr. Mann four separate times about the Sprites, we were fed up and had to track down a Hispanic worker who promptly brought them to us. The half and half pot of preserved egg and cilantro and spicy Mongolian tasted strangely similar. The spicy Mongolian was not spicy at all. The broths we ordered last night were nowhere near the quality of the ones I'd had before here. The food was very average. Let's talk about the beef first. Each order came with six to eight thin slices. The Wagyu beef lacked marbling and the fatty beef wasn't really fatty. The seafood in general was okay. The squid was fresh. Frozen fish fillets were used which was expected. Shrimps were not that good. A couple of them had this black goo in the head area and after they were cooked, the head fat remained black in color. The veggies were okay. Some items were fresh but some looked like they had been sitting around for too long. We attempted to order a third round of Wagyu and fatty beef but were told they ran out! How the heck can an AYCE restaurant run out of beef? We were pretty pissed! One of the servers explained that a lot of parties ordered hot pot and the meats ran out quickly. Come on management! This is complete BS! We were seated at 7:45pm, not 10:45pm. Meats don't run out this quickly if you know how to run a restaurant. I also noticed a couple other things. First, the portable stoves were not hot enough. We had to wait a long time before the broths came to a boil. The conspiracy theorist in me thought they were trying to extend the cooking time so that we get full quicker. Also, our server started to ignore us after two rounds of food. We had to track down people to get us stuff. To sum it up, Gogi Time's hot pot has gone down in quality and service is not as good as they used to be. For $37 (with T/T) a person, I much rather go to Little Sheep in Union City to get my AYCE hot pot fix. This will likely be my last time patronizing Gogi Time. I want to preface this by saying that I was visiting from SoCal with friends, and we had a reservation for a party of 14 on a Saturday evening at 5:30PM. Being from Orange County, all-you-can-eat kbbq is a pretty common and casual dinner plan. While Gogi Time did seem promising, our experience had just missed the mark for our side of the table. To accommodate our large party, they sat us in the back and connected two tables for us. Our table had about 6 people gathered around one grill, and the other 8 were gathered around the other grill. Service started out promising as our first server was so patient and attentive to our order and had answered all our questions. However, there was a slight confusion in steamed egg orders which got sent to the other side of the table--no big deal, we put in a replacement order. 1 egg came out immediately. The 2nd steam egg came out about 30 minutes later after 2 follow-up requests. The 3rd steamed egg never came. When asking for refills of some of the side dishes/banchan, we were told they were out of rice wraps (aka rice paper) and so they had dropped off another giant bowl of rice. Consistently throughout the night, the second half of our table (which fed 8) had a constant stream of service, food and alcohol on their table, and plenty of assistance. However, in comparison to our grill, our table constantly was out of banchan, appetizers, and water pitchers as we picked on what we had as we were waiting for a server--ANY SERVER--to check in with us. We constantly had food dropped off on our side for orders the other grill had put in because we had so much space as we waited for our orders. At one point, my friend and I literally had our hands raised and waving since my 15 minutes of attempt at eye contact and politely raising my hand had gone unnoticed or plain ignored. Eventually, our grill of 6 had decided to end the meal after just 2 rounds of meat orders for 6 people, (which came out to about 6 plates of meat; an assortment of brisket, beef belly, pork belly, and short rib--the short rib fed 8 mouths as we shared with the middle seats). FYI - the entire establishment had a thick layer of grease on the floor, including the bathrooms according to my partner. Some of the food items were quite delicious though. The steamed egg (when we had it) was fluffy and delicious, the pork belly was juicy, and the corn cheese was melted perfectly and had a satisfying cheese pull. Overall, with the steep cost of dinner per person, the disappointing service, and general underwhelming experience, I'm not eager to come back. At this price point, I would recommend making the trek to Gen in Fremont instead, or eating at a Korean food spot in the area that is not AYCE. read more

This was magnificent! Somehow I have never been here even though we live 5 min walking distance from here and walk our dog by it almost everyday. Anyway, it was delicious. Do yourself a favor and ignore the non-marinated meats (except the pork belly which was good if you like that kind of thing - fatty foods!) and just go for the marinated ones. Particular highlights were the LA Style Short Ribs (#1 finger licking good) and the Bulgogi. You won't go wrong with either. If you're feeling like some carbs go for the Veggie Pancake which was great (Kimchi one was not edible to anyone at our table so ignore it). The other trick we learned a little too late is to make sure to use the veggies to add some flavor to everything (i.e. grill the jalapenos, onions and garlic on there with the meat). My only two issues with the place was that they weren't super quick with bringing more drinks and also it was quite hot in there. Granted it was a super hot day (90 degrees outside) but man, the ACs needed some help that day. Hopefully it's not always like that. I didn't Gogi time was worth the wait. For $30 for AYCE, it's not terrible but it didn't light my world on fire. I would say if you come for AYCE, the top pics for me are the cheese corn (prob my fave part of the night), and the marinated ribs. You can never go wrong with ribs in my opinion, in fact I would eat those all night! I would skip all the unmarinated meats. They're supposed to be better cuts which is why you get unmarinated however they were all so chewy and none of them melted in my mouth the way that other KBBQs have. I would stick to the marinated stuff, it's more tender and flavorful. They probably use cheaper meat here so the unmarinated stuff is just for chewy texture but no flavor. I didn't really enjoy the dipping sauces either. They had no flavor. Very bland. Expect to come out smelling like a bbq grill though. read more

A lot of options, but for $36 (party of 6) I've had better options. They have good choices for apps with fried lobster balls, tofu soups, corn cheeses, etc. My biggest qualms about this place is how thick the meat pieces are for the brisket. It was very thick and didn't cook properly. The beef sirloin is the best as it is soft. Ribs were also okay but very fatty. The ambiance is kind of greasy as well but meat quality wasn't as expected. Doesn't look like much on the outside but was recommended by many friends. Excited for some Korean BBQ but this is not the place. We were the first ones in the restaurant and very hungry. They started the grill, dirt and grease started bubbling out of the grill. Server got another grill that did the same thing. To preface, I've had a lot of good times at this place. It's in a good location. Previously, before these places blew up, we used to place ourselves in line for a table, then go to Blind Tiger next door for some drinks while we waited. That said, the quality of the food and service have been really inconsistent. Sometimes it's great and service is on point, sometimes the meat tastes a little bland, and you're waiting forever to order another drink or plate of food. And when they're really busy, don't take the offer to get quicker seating in the back area. Last time (long ago) it was an electric heating element (I think maybe those tables are usually for hot pot diners only?) that was turrible. They don't serve hot pot anymore though so hopefully all those have been replaced. read more

Finally tried the AYCE Korean BBQ here! Wait: Came in here with a party of 5 on a Sunday Night around 825pm. Got sat at the estimate time (about an hour) around 930pm. Service: Pretty Decent! Waiter came back so many times. Food: Didn't expect the food portions to be so big! Meat quality is really something here. Biggest short ribs I've ever seen and the bulgogi is not super thin like most AYCE establishments. Recommend: -Tofu Soup. Definitely feeds at least 3-4 people. -Kimchi Pancake! So yummy! Good to share for groups. Overall, come with a group and enjoy all the meats! Don't forget to try the soju pitchers during happy hour... I suggest the mango :) Cons: -Charge you for leftover meat so make sure you don't order more than you can consume. read more

I've been to Gogi Time twice and both times have been excellent. The first time I came was with a larger group of 8 to celebrate my friend's visit back to the bay after going to Wisconsin. We were seated immediately even though not everyone was there yet. Once we were seated it took a little while to get our order in. Since I'd never been, I let the rest of the table order and then we cooked the night away. For AYCE, we spent about $32 per person and ate so much food. The second time, I went with one of my close friends for her first time at Gogi Time. We had gone meatless for a month so we were about to overdo it. We ordered the kimchi pancake, vegetable pancake, soft tofu stew, spicy pork, BBQ chicken, beef bulgogi, and short ribs. This doesn't count the banchan already offered at the table. I think my favorites were the beef bulgogi and the spicy pork. They had tons of flavor. The soft tofu stew was a bit on the salty side for me and the clams were small. I'm always fearful of there being sand in the clams but there was none here. The vegetable pancakes needed a bit more flavor. Be aware that there isn't an option to take out AYCE food and they say they'll charge you for any additional meat left over. The service this second time around was terrific because we went at 4 pm on a week day versus the 6 pm seating the first time. I definitely also enjoyed the flavored water and my friend and I kept asking for the carafe to be refilled. The small private parking lot was full by the time we left a little after 5 pm and it was a little difficult to navigate out of the parking spot. Both times I went for dinner which was $26.95 per person without tax and tip. For the east bay, this would be my go to AYCE KBBQ place! read more

I love how close this place to my house is! Although it is a lil pricier than I'm used to, I love coming here for their cheese dip (shredded cheese in a little foil tin melts into a fondue on the grill) and pork cheek (a lot of places don't have this on the menu). The service is pretty good, but no one asked us if we needed a grill change... after cooking for much fat our grill was black and smokey; this was one isolated situation but we were almost done eating anyway so we didn't care.
