Came here for an early Mother's Day dinner and realized they don't sell dimsum in the evening. Everything was booked so my family and I stayed. There aren't too many options but portions are huge. I'd say the food is a lot better for lunch. What I didn't like was the auto tip. I always tip servers but when I got the receipt there was a $22 tip on a $150 bill. Out of the local dim sum spots available, this is my least favorite. A lot of their dim sum are resteamed/reheated and each time I go there is always a change of recipe. Their dim sum is a bit more on the salty side from being stale and I don't really recommend them since they're priced similar to other local options. Service is hit or a miss, there was always one lady that was attentive and the rest not so much. In two instances the owners/managers would ignore any request for table service as they eat with their friends during busy hours. We were 8 people and not only did 2 of our family members come, but the TV audio was pretty annoying with the constant drumming of the Fox News station as we were seated right next to the TV. Also to put into more detail the meal orders were wack, the food that was usually put as an appetizer was put not first, the food that was usually put first was not put first, and the server spilled some tea on the roller without cleaning it up but some of my family members didn't want her to clean it up. Also the appetizer like the kalimari (appetizer) was not put first, and the rice was not put first. This was my third time here and it has decreased in quality. Our first round which included tribe tip stew, had white carrots that had gone bad already. We had it returned. The ingredients were not the freshest. The chicken is supposed to be stingy with wasabi but lacked taste. Although the food was okay, this restaurant lost our future business at the end of the visit. After he paid the bill, the waitress came back to the table to lecture my husband on how much she expected for the tip. He told her that he left a tip based on how much he felt was appropriate but she again began to lecture him on how much she expected "next time". Well, surprise! We came to this restaurant on a Sunday late afternoon and it was the perfect time to visit because there weren't too many people there. The servers were all very nice (note I do speak Cantonese) and provided us with fast service. The food was absolutely delicious and all came out hot and fresh. The dim sum here is some of the best I've ever had. The steam dumplings were just perfect - the skin was chewy and didn't break apart when picking them up. If you know what I mean, you know the shrimp noodles and were excellent as well. The skin was chewy and had a soft texture that I really enjoyed. According to other reviews, Golden Bay Banquet took over from King Kong more than 11 months ago. Today was our day to give them a try. Quite often, Chinese restaurants will focus on Dim Sum from late morning to early afternoon, then close for a couple of hours and reopen for the dinner crowd. The day staff and the evening staff are two different crews and are usually not interchangeable due to cooking or English skills. When we walked in today at about 10:45, we were immediately greeted and seated at a four-top against the front window. There was one large group sitting at a round table and a group of three sitting at another four-top. There were two people sitting at a third four-top, but I believe that they were there for a take-out order. We were asked in English what kind of tea we wanted. I ordered our tea in Cantonese and the server didn't blink. Sorry to say, sometimes when I do that, I can see a shift in attitude. An order sheet and pen were left on the table for us to peruse. The teapot was served while we were figuring out what to try. We noticed that numerous selections were scratched from the menu. We don't know if those were permanent deletions or if they simply didn't have them on offer today. We ordered six items, one less than usual. We got one dish, then three dishes, then one each two more times. Of the six, three were hot. The other three were lukewarm. There was no obvious reason for this. It was not busy while we were there. Pan Fried Turnip Cake - 2 - When I was growing up, I remember more Daikon, some bacon bit sized morsels of bbq pork, dried shrimp and chopped green onions mixed into the Turnip Cakes. Now, we're happy to get some pieces of Daikon. The Turnip Cake here was mostly flour and water. To make it worse, it was served lukewarm. Pan Fried Leek Gow - 4 - One of the three hot dishes and quite possibly the best of the day. The flavor was good. The wrapper was a bit thick but I could live with it. Chow Sum with Oyster Sauce - 3 - Another cold dish. It appeared that these greens were simply boiled and served. When making Chinese Broccoli, a small amount of oil is poured into the salted water. When the Broccoli is removed from the water, there's a slight sheen from the oil that adheres to the Broccoli. The salt adds a bit of flavor beyond what the Oyster Sauce will. I know that Choy Sum is not Broccoli but I see no reason to change the cooking technique. Siu Mai - 4 - Hot and filling. Enough said. Fried Rice Rolls in XO Sauce. - 2 - Lukewarm and lacking in flavor. XO Sauce is made from dried shrimp, dried scallop, ham, chili peppers, oil and garlic. While there was some flavor, not enough sauce was used and the rice rolls were more dry than wet. Har Gow - 3 - Good size, decent shrimp, could have used more white pepper for flavor. The temperature was okay. Ever since COVID started, condiments disappeared from Chinese restaurant tables. We had to ask for hot oil. It would have been nice to also have received some soy sauce, but I guess we have to ask for that as well. Service was okay. Our teapot was kept full with the frequent addition of hot water. If anything, I think because business was slow, we got more attention than we really needed. We came, we ate, we'll be moving on. read more

I want to pick a NEGATIVE STAR if Yelp has an option to choose. Service is terrible, we reserved a table for a big party for new year celebration. When we arrived, they gave the reserved table to another party and told us to sit in 2 separate tables or wait until those parties were finished. Specially for the Mr. Server, he was not even try to resolve the situation and said nothing that he can do. It was hard for us to change to another location because it's so late. Usually I'm not bothered by service as long as the food is good, but see both service and food quality is lacking... It's been ages since we came here when it was King Kong. The place has gone down since it's hey days and things are very quiet. But that's perfect for us, came in for a late lunch on a Saturday and only 2 tables had people, got seated and served right away. Can't find that at most dim sum joints! Got the e-fu meen with seafood in XO sauce and some dim sum dishes. Also the chrysanthemum tea. All were very good and came out super quick! Parking is a bit tricky cos there's only the front lot in this strip mall. So at peak hours might have to park a couple blocks away in the residential area. We have ordered 7 items, only 6 came. No one bothered to ask if we needed anything. We opted for ice water rather than usual hot tea. Even that wasn't refilled. We had to ask several times for water. Like seriously?!? Napkins, same thing. We got the ONLY 3 pcs of napkins from when they sat us. We couldn't even ask for more because #1 they were very busy and #2 they don't bother to even look our way. So we just went on to eat our food. Comes the bill, the 1st thing on bill was 2 HOT TEAS! Went here for the first time. Tried to call in an order for pickup but they said I have to go in to order. I place my order inside and they say it will be 20 minutes to be ready. I come to pickup and I'm told they don't have any of one of my items and push for me to accept an alternative instead of a refund. I requested a refund, which they gave minus taxes I paid on the item. After I started eating my order, I noticed one of my items was wrong. I ordered Bbq pork bao but it was something else inside. Grand Golden Bay takes over the old King Kong Dim Sum location in San Leandro. I was taking my parents to King Kong Dim Sum this morning. When we reached the front, I saw the Soft Opening sign for Grand Golden Bay. I hadn't been in the area in awhile. From listening to customers and wait staff, the King Kong owners sold the business around December 12th, and the Soft Opening launch was January 17th. The interior changed a little. The wait staff is mostly new with a holdover or two. The Dim Sum menu was given along with a marker. Order was placed, and Tea was brought to the table. The wait staff were friendly and helpful. Tea was refilled often. Food came out steadily. Food was good. I will definitely be back to sample more of their menu. read more

Came here for lunch this afternoon. It was not the same as the Union City location. The service was just okay. It's obvious from the other reviews that it depends when one eats there. Takes longer for the dim sum to arrive to your table. Must be the kitchen. They charge two dollars more for the wonton noodle. Should have updated the menu. The owner didn't seem to care. But she did say so. It's obvious that a lot of the people goes to Fusion Delight. Won't be back. Will go to Fusion the next time I am in the area. read more

Here's what we ordered: Char Siu Bao (BBQ Pork Bun) was pretty good flavor. 3 Stars Egg Puffs was good and moist. 3 Stars Fried shrimp balls was okay moist but lack flavor. 3 Stars Har Gow (Shrimp Dumplings) looks good but again no flavor. 2 Stars Siu Mai (Pork Dumplings) was rotten and not edible. 0 Stars Beef Noodle Roll, no flavor. 2 Stars The Chinese menudos I called it had way too much daikon and liver in it, have no flavor. 1 Stars The staff was okay typical Chinese restaurant service. read more

I was a bit skeptical about stopping by this spot because of the connotation of King Kong dim sum (the business that golden bay banquet took over). As I didn't have a good experience. But to my great surprise, the food has improved so much and from my understanding, they have another location in union city! For the price and flavor of the food, I'd definitely recommend stopping by. However, if you are looking for new and modern dim sum dishes I wouldn't say that golden bay would provide that experience. They have more of the old and traditional dishes. Golden Bay Banquet used to be King Kong Dim Sum. They still have the soft opening sign up, but I believe they have been open under the new name and management for at least half a year. With that I am assuming they have had plenty of time to sort out the various challenges. The food under the old name/management was very good and service was not at all exceptional but was all right. Sadly in my opinion, the overall experience was lacking. I will start with the food: Haw Gao - was decent and flavorful but just above average Siu Mai - was decent and flavorful but just above average Shrimp Cheung Fun - nice and gooey but nothing special Scallop and egg fried rice - This was probably my favorite. The flavors were subtle but delicious. However this dish probably isn't for everyone. Taro dumpling - I've never had the taro shredded but the pan fried crunchy parts were tasty. But the rest was average. Taro puffs - kind of bland and very greasy Steamed chicken - a little dry and pretty bland Egg custard - these were delicious Overall food I would give a 3,5 not in the same category as King Kong was.. Service however was another story. It was as bad as service could be. The servers all walk around with their heads down and don't notice anything or anyone that needs something. Came here on MLK day for some dim sum and I was not disappointed. It took a while for everything to come out, but it was all warm and yummy so worth the wait. Some highlights were the egg tart, the siu mai, and lo mai gai. I'm a big fan of egg tarts and these are definitely top six. Worst customer service ever with the new ownership. Tables were visibly available, and didn't give the tables. The head waitress muttered - "I should've made you wait longer, than give you the seat". I come into the restaurant and want to buy a Togo, wait there for 5 mins, a lady come out to us and ask us what we want to order, and when she was asking, she is rude and impatient; right after we decide to order half brown chicken from the menu for $15.99, they told us their boss raise the price from $15.99 to $16.99 and also they charge $0.20 for togo box. Okay, Then we agree and order the chicken, wait about 10 mins, the lady bring the chicken out to us. After we bring the chicken home and eat, we found out that the chicken is missing a lot of meat. Our family reserved a table for Chinese New Year's Eve. When we arrived, we were sat down at our reserved table. However, we were told to wait to order as the kitchen was backlogged. That was okay for us since we did see that the restaurant was very packed. However, the wait turned into 40 minutes and we were still told to wait. We saw another table may have also been told to wait since they haven't been served. During this time, there is a big table enjoying food and ~8 bottles of wine and liquor. We then saw who appeared to be the head chef come out to interact with the table and have a drink with them. They must be family or friends. We thought to ourselves that if the kitchen was really backlogged, why was the chef spending time socializing and even drinking on the job. We were finally allowed to make our order after sitting for an hour. To make matters worse, a new table of 5 was seated behind us and their order was taken immediately. Food appeared at their table in a matter of minutes. From overhearing their conversations with the employees, they are family or friends and were definitely hooked up. After an hour and 30 minutes, we were finally served soup. Ten minutes after that, we were given our first entree. To sum it up, the restaurant was not prepared for CNYE. They should have expected to be really busy and should have staffed accordingly. They definitely favored family and friends over regular paying customers even after they had waited for a long time. It was truly terrible service. No customers should have to wait an hour and a half to receive food. While we normally would have got up and left, the night was getting late and there are no alternative restaurants we can go to instead. Plus, it's CNY and we don't want any negativity, so we held any expression of anger and frustration. The food was okay. Nothing memorable. The service was horrible. The whole table only gets one menu. It took us a while to decide what we wanted because all four of us had to share one menu. The table's quite big so sharing had to be done in pairs of two. Long wait time to receive food. We waited 30 minutes for the first plate to come out. Food came out uncoordinated. We got our first plate 30 minutes after ordering. The second plate came out 40 minutes after ordering. The third plate came out a couple of minutes after the third. The fried rice came out last - our carb item came out last. The rest of the food was cold by then. A table seated after us got their food before us. I recommend going elsewhere for food.
