We decided to try Golden Corral on Father's Day since my husband had never been before, and I hadn't been in about 10 years. The restaurant itself felt a little dated, but the price was very reasonable. I believe it was around $16 per adult (don't quote me on that), and our 2-year-old ate free, which was a nice bonus. There was a huge variety of food, and while nothing really wowed us, everything we tried was decent and there were plenty of options. Unfortunately, our experience took a turn while we were eating. A roach crawled out onto the wall right next to our table. It looked like it had been sprayed or injured because its wings were exposed, but seeing it completely ruined our appetites. My husband and I stopped eating and left shortly after. We enjoyed the value and selection, but cleanliness is a big deal for us, and this experience made it hard to want to come back. I hope management addresses any pest issues because the value is good, but seeing a roach while eating is something that's hard to overlook. read more

I've seen this restaurant's recent advertisements, although I've been by the location many times, I've never been in the place. For our "date night" my husband thought the lobster tail at $7.99 was a good incentive to go. Sorry to say, it was NOT! We had to wait for our "server" if we could even find one to get the lobster, which was SO SMALL it was only about 3 bites!! I read some great reviews about the steak, so I ordered a medium rare. It was SO tough, I couldn't get my knife through it - almost like chewing (or trying to chew) leather. I told my server, who was nice enough to bring me another, but it was just as bad. I think they got their meat from a very OLD cow. The veggies were COLD - all the food looked like it had been sitting under heat lamps for hours. It was only 5:30 - DINNER time, but all the pans were very low - looked as if they'd been sitting there since the place opened. The ice cream machine was broken, only one spicket worked and you had to really PULL on it to get anything out. The dessert cakes were VERY dry. This place is similar to Hometown Buffet, may its soul rest in peace. We visited on a weekday during lunch. There were plenty of seats and plenty of parking spaces. What I liked: 1. Inside is clean and organized. The utensils are separately packed and placed on your table. 2. Beverages are served by the servers which prevents mess around the soda machines. They serve coffee and tea as well. 3. The bakery is awesome. A good variety of sweets. They also have peach cobbler and ice-cream. 4. Plenty of fried chicken 5. They have onion rings 6. Laid back friendly atmosphere 7. The servers are nice, efficient and accommodating. What is average: 1. Food is average but you get what you pay for. For under $20 dollars you get to eat salad, food and dessert. 2. While the fried chicken is fresh and delicious, other proteins such as the fried fish and steak need help. They only serve popcorn shrimps for lunch. 3. The salad bar was not very attractive. What should improve: 1. In the women's restroom, the floor was sticky. First of all, I hate to give bad reviews but when they earn them is fair. The grill opens at 4:45pm besides the fact that the staff keeps telling you it'll be open by 4pm no 45 min of extra waiting time. Some of the staff even were giving me look as I was asking repeatedly for the grill after 20 min were passed the supposed start time. When the master griller arrived... he's just young man probably inexperienced but rude and showed he probably doesn't even like his job; he only asked what term meat you wanted... I asked mine medium rare and told him the juicier the better, he raised one eyebrow and and just keep turning the meat. Then when I thought it was done he grabbed the meat and butterfly it!! Then throw it to the griddle!!! I was speechless almost refused it but he did that to all the cuts!!! It Came out well done and dry... the rest of the buffet was gray and simple... I went just for the grill and it turned out to be a big disappointment. Won't go back there again. This is why I don't recommend it. read more

This isn't a place that I visit regularly in fact I've probably been maybe five or six times with the last time being maybe a year and a half ago. Only ever went because the people I was with wanted to go. When I remember it was you know basic buffet style food? The only thing that stood out was the pot roast & meatloaf were really good so I was looking forward to those today. The pot roast was very good but the meatloaf sadly was not good at all. You could tell that it had a lot of fillers whatever they use breadcrumbs oatmeal I don't know, but it was mushy and bland. Quite a few things I got were hard and cold like they've been sitting a very long time and it was about 1:30 but it was very crowded. So food turnover should've been pretty consistent. They had a couple of things like biscuits and gravy and some greasy looking hashbrowns that I don't know if they left them for breakfast but they stayed the whole time. We were there just really empty so that wasn't cool. As usual every single dessert I tried, which was probably 10 of them were absolutely disgusting just like before. What I didn't like was that we had all been on our third go around with lots of plates and hadn't even seen weight staff yet like at all we started putting our plates on an empty table next to us because we were out of room. I also don't like how stingy they are with silverware. You know you don't know if somebody's gonna come and bring you another so you had to keep just wiping your silverware and using it over and over again, which is gross. Now I think I saw two people in the whole dining room so of course I still left a good tip even though we really didn't get much service at all. I definitely won't be back. Especially for the price. The family and I wanted to try Golden Corral again after 6yrs or so. Food was okay, except the fried chicken was excellent when it is just cooked. The bread is not the same as I remember. The bread before was Soft, Fluffy and Buttery, now it's pretty tough to chew on. Please bring back the old bread back. The steak- you have to wait few minutes for it to cook so by the time it's cooked, you're basically full from eating something else. Fruit bar- lacking fresh fruits Service- our waiter is excellent can't complain! Floor kinda needs deep carpet cleaning and the restrooms are horribly filthy. Most of the food was good. There was plenty of desserts. My least favorite that I tried was the red velvet because it was dry and lacked flavor and was really dense!. we came in during the breakfast brunch time. After I served myself, meatloaf and beef liver, I found two hairs one on the meatloaf and a longer one as I cut through the liver at the bottom of my plate. I reported that to the waitress the only thing she could do is tell the cooks to remove those food trays and replace them with new ones. as they transition to the lunch hour, we got a piece of the beef the cook cut out and as we cut through it was super raw! That was our second plate that we left mostly full and uneaten. This was the first time in many years that I returned to the buffet and was very disappointed in the quality control. Food was great this time. It's always a hit and miss. My daughter really loves coming to eat here. Bathrooms continue to be horrid so make sure you use one before coming here. Service was great from entering to our table side service. Cristina was on task with everything! As busy as she was I never had to ask for a refill nor have to ask for my dirty plates to be picked up. As busy as it was for a Saturday Cristina's table side manner was pleasing. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. It's time for a bedtime story. The name of the story is the land of mid. In the land of mid all activities, places, and restaurants are just mid. I know all about this word because my son uses it to describe anything just okay. I went with both of my kids in Oxnard to the Golden Corral. I have always seen commercials for this cacophony of food that seem to be similar to Hometown Buffet. Since Ive never been to Home Town buffet either, I know this was going to be a new and interesting experience. You walk in the door and pay first. I thought that was interesting but for 20 bucks a meal to eat yourself silly I was okay with it. They had a salad station a main course station and a dessert station. I skipped the salad and went to the main dishes. All of the food is pretty much American. Since my friends Rick and Shayna are also American, I figure they will like this Yelp review. I had in no particular order baby back ribs, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, sirloin steak that they made to order, Macaroni and cheese, and more that I can't remember right now. Everything was mid. It was just okay. Dessert at the end was also okay however they did have a soft serve machine which I am partial to. One thing that was different was you could choose a selection of three different Icee flavors and put soft serve on top. I chose the mango and put vanilla soft serve on top and as with everything else, it was mid. The bread pudding was mid as well. I know I'm being repetitive but I had to let everybody know how mid this place was. Would I go back? No. Was it horrendous? No. Would Rick and Shayna go there ? Hey it's a buffet. Not a Vegas buffet. Gotta admit we were influenced but the TV commercials which showed the variety of chicken tenders and fried shrimp. Yes, they were there and pretty good, actually. In addition to those fried items, I had fried okra, deviled eggs, macaroni salad, pinto beans, and corn bread. Yeah a weird selection but isn't that what buffets are about? We did see the fire grill in action, with people lined up, waiting to select their hunk of cow and watch it cook. We weren't into that so we just had what was already prepared. We arrived on a Sunday around 6:00pm. There was a small line of maybe 10 people. The first thing you see are crates of drinkware, an ice machine, an iced tea tureen, a standard soda fountain, and a small refrigerator with a few varieties of bottled drinks. The cashier (who works her buns off) had a thick accent but we got thru it. She was very pleasant and never stopped finding things to do. She collected our money: the prices are posted on a board on the wall behind her. There are different breakouts for various days on the week and day parts. Be forewarned, the place was a zoo. Very few tables available, and swarms of hungry people scooping from trays of food. We did get a table with ease, though. There were the ubiquitous protesting children, morbidly obese adults, sports teams, and multi generational families. But in general I'd say the mix of patrons was about in line with the city itself. The servers bussed the tables and provided drink refills. I had a hard time figuring out what to tip, so I turned to Mr. Google on my iPad. I came up with the following: $2 per person, $5 for the table of two, $4 because that's what servers were allegedly limited to, and 10%. It's possible to pay the tip with the cashier in advance. That didn't make sense to us, so we left cash on the table. Unlike Sizzler, this establishment does not serve adult beverages. OTOH, it feels to me, if you were to bring in an insulated cup with whatever in it, they wouldn't bat an eyelash. The place is pretty unrestrictive with lots of coming and going. I liked the experience in an odd way. I never really had to wait in a line to get something. I just walked up and helped myself to what looked good. Maybe people call that "cuts" but really the only official line I saw was for the grilled steaks. There is senior early bird special pricing... I've forgotten the exact time bracket but if you look old enough and go early enough you can get it. Just check out the board and ask for the deal. Oh yeah. The happy birthday stuff. Eye roll. The servers do a bang up job of a military sounding chant. It's never ending, as if everybody in there is having a birthday. Then there's the guy forming skinny balloons into various shapes. Not my thing but a little extra I wasn't expecting. The bathroom wasn't filthy but I'd have appreciated more attention to the trash and floors. Very unpleased with overall experience. Don't usually go out to eat but decided to give this buffet a try. Typical buffet setup; salad/soup, entree/side, dessert station. Salad bar had very questionable "fresh" vegetables, deviled eggs weren't in or on any type of dish to keep cold; no telling how long it has been out. Entrees and sides were too salty for my taste. The only thing that was somewhat decent was the 'Grill Station' where they grilled steaks and you got to pick from medium-rare to well-done; flavor wasn't ideal but again it's a buffet (had to use steak sauce to make it taste better). Food overall: 1 out of 5 Service was horrible. Attempted to call ahead to inquire of their current dinner menu and pricing. Was placed on hold but was quickly forgotten. Called back but no answer for over 7 calls. Silver wasn't readily available, have to chase down an employee to get some which took awhile. Our initial waitress had attitude, I understand you don't typically get tips but show some pride in your work. The massive amount of television advertising paid off and last weekend while in Ventura I brought my family out to eat without telling them what sort of a feast we had in store. Steak. Shrimp. Ribs. Wings. Yum. Meat. We like meat. I attacked the salad bar first but got the kids ice cream with sprinkles first. Why not?!? Then they had a bit of everything because everything was available. Too many pies to mention, the lemon meringue was especially delicious. When the waitress brought out the cotton Candy I knew I was father of the month. Yes I know its a buffett. Can't expect 5 stars food. But that being said, coming in at 11am this morning, it looks like most of the food was from yesterday. The pico for the tacos were definitely not fresh. You can tell just by the appearance. A lot of the desserts have that wet/drippy watered down condensation going on...telling me that it was once frozen, then left out at the buffett bar, then put in refridgerator, then put back out again. i used to work at one of these places and usually, to keep everything fresh, whatever thats been out on the buffett were tossed out, except for the salad bar since those were kept cool. Even the bread tasted stale to me. The burgers's buns were not Golden Corral fresh like other places. I do have to give a shout out to their fried chicken though. Those were crispy and fresh. Selection wise, The buffett bar were full. There were many options but nothing really to be called as a main entree. Only fried chicken , some fried fish, saute fish, and burgers. Everything else were "sides". I probably wont be coming back, especially during the weekday especially during lunch. Probably one day down the line, I'll give dinner a run and hope its better. I had came here for the first time on sunday afternoon. The cashiers were really nice and helpful. They explained everything very well and they had a lot of patience with me since I did catch myself asking a lot of questions. Once I had picked out a place to sit I had this waitress her name was Christina and she lacked a lot with drink refills and getting us our silverware. We had to ask someone else for silverware and drink refill. I always caught her talking to her other co workers and didn't seem to have a lot of work ethic. The food was good since they had lots of food options and I really enjoyed the salad bar. Overall I rate this restaurant 3 stars just wish the waiter had more work ethic. read more
