my favorite restaurant to come to since i was a child! the restaurant scaled down during the pandemic so it's much smaller than it used to be but they have outdoor seating available if it gets too crowded. you can't go wrong with any of their noodle soups! whenever i'm in the area i ALWAYS buy 1-2 boxes of leek cakes to take home! they make the leek cakes fresh daily and usually have a limited supply.

This is one of the OG almost hole in the wall restaurants in LA's Chinatown. Whenever I am in town, I have to stop by here. They sell these leek cakes which is literally my childhood. They even sell frozen versions for you to take home. I think it's about 10-12 piece for like $17ish? Still a good deal. They have good noodle soup dishes here worth a try!

I've eaten here a lot considering that I haven't actually written any of my reviews of it. A lot of the menu is Chiu Chow coastal cuisine so you'll find it very pure tasting with very few heavy sauces and mostly allowing the ingredients to shine through. I do an excellent job on their organ, dishes, such as their braised kidneys, which are extremely tender and subtle leaf flavorful with wonderful vegetables. I also had the spicy chicken and shrimp with triangle noodles, which is like a chow fun noodle cut into triangles. All of the large soups are very tasty and filling with excellent value for the price. If you come at peak hour during lunchtime, you may not find any tables available. So come early by 11 or 11:30 AM. After lunch and settled down considerably and is very easy to get a seat. Many of the dishes here are one of a kind, and very uncommon here in Chinatown. Parking is available available both on the street by meter, and there's always the underground rather expensive parking. This is not a place. You'll find a lot of heavy spicy Szechuan style food. But this is an excellent example for those who like Shanghai cuisine, or the coastal style like Guangzhou. Service is sometimes tricky as the ladies who run this place are quite elderly, but their children and grandchildren help out, and that helps make it more even Service. In other words, sometimes you do have to remind them of your order.

This is nostalgia for me and my family. I remember my parents bringing me and my brothers here when we were young children. Eventually, my brothers got too lazy for random early mornings on weekends and it was just me and my parents. On this particular trip, I came with with my mom and two younger brothers. The food tasted the same as I remembered over the years - a homemade taste full of flavor and time, whether it was the seafood or the beef one. Service was quick, the ladies were friendly and the food was piping hot when it came out. We ordered a few different varieties of pho - all were yummy. The only thing that could have been improved was the seating - we had to sit outside as there weren't enough seating inside for all the customers. It wasn't horrible, but hard to find seating unless you grab one as people leave, which means that the tables weren't as clean as it should be. Someone who may not be familiar with the food may find it a turn off. Overall, Kim Chuy will continue to be a favorite whenever I head to Chinatown - both for the memories and for the great taste.

Customer since 1996! My Beautiful Grandmother bring me here after we shop around ChinaTown. The food here are Authentic 100%, taste very good and average portion. Good customer service, clean and the restaurant as of 10/27/25 RATING is A. Foods are very comforting! Reasonable price Now I have been bringing my Family to enjoy their food! Lots of great selection too. Highly recommended !!!

This is small restaurant in Chinatown that my mom orders a bunch of chive cakes to freeze and eat whenever she craves it. Service was good and food comes out quickly. We ordered the following to share: Beef stew with egg noodles soup Chiu Chow Filet Fish Big Noodle Soup Seafood crispy noodles Beef fried noodles with gravy Crab & Shrimp Ball Everything was good. This is the type of food I grew up with and this place doesn't disappoint. Flavors were on point and we enjoyed every dish. It's no wonder they have been open since 1982. Amazing history and great tasting food.

Came here for lunch and ordered the beef chow fun. It was really good, I like how the gravy was thick and the meats and vegetables were fresh. Ambiance was like an old school hole in the wall and they had tables outside for dining. As for parking, you can park on the street or park in the $5 lot next door. Overall I would come back if I go to Chinatown again.

Back again to satisfy my cravings for my favorite rice noodle soup spot in Chinatown. Will never get tired of their light and savory broth. Was really packed this Sunday, took 20 minutes to get a table! That's how you know it's good. Try out their fried crabmeat & shrimp cakes and ask for their sweet & sour sauce to pair with it.

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. I was visit g LA looking for a place to eat and I stubbled into this place off the street, it was tucked away in a little shopping center building. They had the most beautiful vibrant orange and red tiles along the store front. They had some seating outsides as well as inside. Mostly small tables, not more than 4 seats per table but you could push tables together if you have a bigger group. Their menu was extensive, and it all looked so good, but I decided on the mixed vegetable chow fun and it was the best chow fun I have ever had! All the vegetables were so fresh and it was the perfect level of salt and flavor. The noodles were also cooked to perfection and they didn't stick to one another. I LOVED THIS DISH. I highly recommend trying this place out! The staff were also very friendly and fast at cooking! I had no complaints about any aspect of my visit. If I am ever in LA again, I will be going out of my way to go back.

Tons of great Chinese food options! My family ordered the # 34 Leek Cakes and # 48 Fried Chicken Dumplings. The Leek Cakes come with 4 Leek Cakes and sweet chili sauce for dipping. The Leek Cakes have tons of chopped leek pieces, and they're delicious with the sauce. The Fried Chicken Dumplings come with soy sauce for dipping. They're just your average chicken dumplings, but they still taste great! The employees are very nice and very fast. One of the employees spoke both English and Khmer! They bring your food in to-go boxes, containers, and bags if you sit outside in the strip mall. However, if you eat inside the restaurant, your food will come in regular plates and bowls. You also need to pay before eating. Both the restaurant and the seating in the strip mall are very clean. There's a menu on the outside tables and a QR code to scan for an online menu. There's also a menu on the windows. There's plenty of seating, and people can only sit at the tables if they're planning to eat here. I would eat here again! There's tons of items on the menu, employees are kind, and you have the choice to sit in a restaurant or sit outside and people-watch.

Came here with our dogs after Firecracker Walk/Run event since it was hard to find Chinese restaurants in Chinatown that had outdoor seating. Food was delicious! Love the fried leek cakes so much I bought the ready to cook pack to go. Duck meat was tender and chiu chow noodles taste so good . Will be back again!

    Andrea C.

Best Fish Ball Noodles! Noodles are chewy and soft. Fish ball are fresh and bouncy. Broth is nicely favored to match the noodles and fish balls. They allow outdoor dining. Staff are friendly and can speak Canto/English. The chives pancake is crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside. Try it out as a snack!

Discarded the meat that didn't feel fresh and also weird gummy like texture.

It's a typical sized place for a restaurant on First St. (I.e. small & narrow). They do make use of every space though. Parking is...Little Tokyo...sigh. Dashi was VERY good. Generous amount of grated daikon. Assort. Tempura: Saw this being served while waiting. Looked really good and it WAS! Large shiitake mushroom. Fan cut Japanese eggplant, kabocha pumpkin, shrimp tempura & two (2) shiso leaves. All VERY crisp not oily. Warm dashi side had deep umami rich flavor. Probably made the legit kombu & bonita flake method. #1 ordered the Miso carbonara: garlicky carbonara served with their signature house-rolled out udon. Wonderful dish. Portion sizes were adequate. #2 ordered the Uni carbonara: same garlicky carbonara with uni bits strewn about. Estimating one whole uni broken. This actually works for ease of eating. Plus, uni ranges in the $18/oz on the low end to $60 or more/oz on the higher end. Yes we love & appreciate their gonads. Udon noodles were chewy, bouncy & worth the wait. Yeah yeah....the dough is purchased. Not house made. But, seriously you've seen the YouTube videos of restaurants specializing in Japan? Yes there are places in LA who make their dough & roll it out. It's Hella lot of work! Yamachan produces large scale udon/ramen in San Jose. It's fine. Let them work out the dough to water ratio. Also portion size was decent since we shared a couple apps. Might want to consider the option of extra noodles. The table to our right full of younger male co-workers were there to socialize. They probably all grabbed an afternoon snack. The restaurant is just down the street from the closest metro station. We were greeted immediately and told to wait while they set up the table. The ceilings are pretty high and there is a decent amount of seating. Half of the tables were probably taken around this time and there were a few TVs on playing a live FIFA World Cup game which people were watching. I decided to order the 3 of us: 1. Kalguksu, 17, bibim nengmyun, and 25. Beef bulgogi. Everything was out pretty quickly and everything was delicious. The beef bulgogi was good but nothing too special. Sweet and savory with plenty of onions and served on a hot plate. My dad has been to Korea more than a dozen times and says that this bulgogi isn't close to as good as he's had, but that the noodles were very good. He says this bulgogi could be more Smokey, with a grilled flavor. I've probably had better bulgogi around as well so probably wouldn't come just for it, but it was nice to have a dish with rice in addition to the 2 noodle dishes. The kalguksu was my favorite. Very savory and the broth was so good. The other 2 dishes came with little bowls of extra broth as well. Inside the kalguksu was 3 dumplings (yum), some well seasoned ground meat (yum), and very good al dente noodles (yum). The spicy cold noodles were also good. I typically prefer the cold noodles that come in the slushy broth but my boyfriend prefers this spicy one! It had fresh veggies, a slice of Korean pear, an egg, and a lot of delicious sauce that ended up not being too spicy. The red kimchi was more spicy than the noodles! Overall good food and good service, fast and efficient, no nonsense. Would come again for the noodle dishes which were around $18.

You order at the counter before finding a table, which made everything feel efficient and relaxed. We ordered the pork belly bun, Taiwanese popcorn chicken, pan-fried pork buns, beef noodle soup, and Hakka mochi. The MVP of the meal was undoubtedly the Taiwanese popcorn chicken. It was honestly better than many versions I've had in Taiwan, and I've had plenty. The chicken was crispy and crunchy without being greasy, and the meat stayed juicy rather than drying out. If you come here, order this. The pork belly bun was my personal favorite. The braised pork belly practically melted in my mouth, and everything was seasoned beautifully. Simple, balanced, and incredibly satisfying. The pan-fried pork buns were the only disappointment. The filling felt underseasoned, and the bottoms lacked the crispy crust I was hoping for. They were fine, but not something I would order again. The beef noodle soup was solid. The broth was excellent, with a depth of flavor and spice profile that I really enjoyed. Unfortunately, the beef shank was overcooked and a bit too dry (乾) for my liking. For dessert, we had the Hakka mochi. It was served warm, pleasantly chewy, and not overly sweet. It was a nice way to end the meal and made me curious to try some of their other desserts next time. This was overall a fantastic meal. Not every dish was perfect, but the highlights were memorable enough that I'll gladly return. The popcorn chicken alone is worth the visit.

The pork buns were tasty as well and filled with juicy meat. I also really liked the soy milk. It wasn't too sweet, and it had a nice thickness. The staff was friendly. The restaurant is a casual spot with a self-serve water station.
