    Ribs, side of mashed potatoes...

Let's talk about Golden Ox for a second. I ordered through DoorDash and went with the ribs, expecting a decent meal -- and instead got an abundance of food. The portions are generous, the ribs were exactly what I was craving, and the entire order completely exceeded expectations. This is the kind of spot that delivers both quality and quantity, which is a rare win. Pleasantly surprised and very impressed.

So I really wanted to love this place and won't say I won't try it again but last night wasn't the best. This is from what I have been told a Lodi staple for decades. The inside decor and ambiance brings you back to a long ago diner feel vibe which I do like. You order at the counter and they bring you lr food to you. Service I will say was a 10 out of 10 the people working here are amazing and some of the friendliest staff I have encountered. What fell flat was the food. I had the club sandwich and my daughter had the pastrami sandwich. Both were extremely underwhelming and hers was so salty she couldn't even finish it. Plus the the fries and my onion rings had a somewhat funky flavor that maybe they needed to change the oil they were being fried in. My club was just ok nothing special and wasn't even that hot but the highlight was the what you could tell was the homemade turkey not store bought. Like I mentioned maybe an off night and will try again and the service is amazing and for sure a place that has been around for years. Plus last night it was very busy so they must be doing something right. The menu is also pretty incredible with choices galore. So for now a 3 star but we will see.

I ordered the California Benedict through the drive-thru, which was absolutely delicious. The eggs were perfectly poached, layered with fresh avocado, and generously topped with hollandaise sauce. It was creamy, comforting, and just the right amount of indulgent. The hash browns underneath were crisp and golden, holding up beautifully under all that sauce! What really sets Golden Ox apart is the convenience, the charm, and the people. Stephanie is always very friendly and kind. She makes every visit feel welcoming and personal The drive-thru is such a thoughtful touch, which is rare for a diner. The whole setup gives off retro vibes with its railroad crossing sign and classic diner flair. Service was fast and super friendly, and everything was made fresh to order. Whether you are a Lodi local or just passing through, this place is worth the stop. Breakfast all day? Yes, please! I highly recommend it! 410 W Kettleman Ln, Lodi Open Mon to Sat 7 AM to 8 PM, Sun 7 AM to 3 PM #MoniApproved #GoldenOxDiner #LodiEats #BreakfastAllDay #CaliforniaBenedict

Trusting in Yelp reviews, we headed to Lodi's highly rated and popular Avenue Grill. Service was wonderful. Our server (blond lady with glasses) was friendly and chipper and had a very nice demeanor. She was on top of everything. Food came out quickly too. Seemed like the rest of the customers there were local regulars, who knew one another. Cozy, family-friendly vibez. I got the chicken fried steak with crispy potatoes. Good country gravy, seasoned potatoes, and chicken fried steak was delicious. Big portion, enough for leftovers. My husband got the steak & eggs. The steak was a little too dry and under seasoned to my husband's liking. He always orders medium-well, but it was more well. I did agree that it didn't have much flavor. But I had it the next day for leftovers and thought it was good mixed with my gravy and potatoes. So if you're looking for a good traditional breakfast diner, this is probably your spot. I don't think it was worth a drive from Sac, just because there are a lot of similar restaurants, but if you are already in the Lodi area, definitely worth a visit.

I know I've…read moredriven past it many times, but I guess their signage is too modest compared to the huge "IDOL BEER WORKS" on the other end of the building. I figured it was just another iteration of the original (now long gone) Squeeze Inn in Sacramento, and I was right. I don't think the various locations are franchises, but are more likely independently owned, and the quality varies from location to location. The one that used to be in West Sac, for instance, was terrible, which might explain why it's been gone for years. And the mid-town was also a resounding MEH, and also gone. There's nothing at any version of Squeeze Inn/Burger that I want more than just a basic Squeeze (or in this case, SQZ) with Cheese, though. I don't want a taco, nor a BLT, and especially not chicken strips. I want that which made the brand famous. A cheeseburger with all the traditional toppings and a cheese skirt just dripping cheese grease off it. SQZ Burger delivers the goods. The cheese skirt was just the right size, not too big, not too small. At one point in my life I would have said that there's no such thing as a cheese skirt that's too big, but a couple of years ago I had a cheese skirt that was so big that I felt sick afterward from all the cheese grease! In addition to the just right amount of cheese, the burger had lettuce, tomato, pickles, red onion, and a healthy schmear of mayo and mustard. Damn near a perfect burger. The owner was running the register on my visit, and when she brought my food out, she asked if I wanted a side of ranch. I'm the kind of guy who would drink ranch dressing if I could, so of course I accepted. I didn't even ask - It was nice of her to offer! There's a throughline from the original Squeeze Inn on Power Inn Road to SQZ Burger, too. The father of the husband half of the H/W ownership team owned the original location. Brandon and Katie ran the Galt location for several years, and have now brought the goodness to a Lodi brick and mortar spot. I'll definitely be back.

And my strawberry shake was good also. We had about 45 people all land at the same time, and SQZ was able to quickly get us all served in short order. I do love the vibe of both SQZ & IDOL. It was a nice little drive both ways with an epic food stop in between.

Personally, I don't like big, corporate-backed venues like Denny's & IHOP, but since this place in Lodi got good reviews, I thought I would give it a try. But again, since it was a big-name restaurant, my expectations were low. PROS: - First off, excellent service, a well staffed kitchen & dining area. Dining area atmosphere very warm as well, with lots of families enjoying their meals. - Our waiter was Eduardo. A very attentive guy, who brought out our meals less than 10 minutes from time of order. GIVE THIS GUY A RAISE! - Did the, "Build your own Breakfast" with steak, eggs & pancakes. The pancakes were excellent... golden brown, not burnt, and large & fluffy. These guys know how to make classic pancakes !!! - Ordered orange juice. IT WAS DELICIOUS. I was expecting some watery, sugary juice substitute, but this was REAL ORANGE JUICE. (Minute Maid) CONS: - The steak was quiet, "Meh". Sure, it just a standard portion of a, "Build your own B'fast" meal, but the steak itself was so unimpressive, like it came from one of those microwave steaks at Walmart. - I understand that eggs are expensive nowadays, but I ordered three (3) eggs, but they were so small, that it felt like eating just two eggs. CONCLUSION: Great restaurant with great vibes. Just wish that the steak & eggs portion of my breakfast were bigger. The pancake portion was just fine. Will go there again and give them the chance to earn five stars from me.
