I've gone here numerous times and the most recent time was quite interesting. More on that later if you have time to read. Regarding the food and selection, I felt that their dishes are decent. Flavor is hit or miss depending on the item. But the cart ladies are all very nice and friendly unlike some of the other places. There's a parking lot as well but a required valet tip of $3 which isn't terrible but if there's free parking across the street then why pay? Now, onto the experience of actually getting seated. The owner (a woman with glasses) who serves as the maitre'd writes your table size and gives you a number. However, I stood right next to her table/station and she only handed out numbers for about 15 minutes; without calling any numbers forward. I'm quite observant so what I also notice is lots of people who wander in, and silently disappear into the abyss of tables and seats with handshakes and nods from staff members. I'm no stranger to getting a table hook up without waiting because you know the staff. But this was just so apparent. She literally did not call a single number for 15 minutes straight. I waited 30 minutes for a table to ourselves given our size. There were people who took a number, and then walked into the restaurant; stood by a table that looked like they were nearly done eating and sat without being called. I saw it with my own eyes. If you have no shame, then you can do it too. But if you play proper then you'll be in for a wait. Servers also have decent attitudes too, which is quite rare in these days. Price is very expensive and the commute is way out of my way. I will think the price will be a bit more fair at a remote location. A Ngau Zap cost $10.20 for half a quart and the taste is average. If I knew the price was so much for so little I will have went to vietnamese restaurant and get a noodle soup for an extra 2 dollars. The siu mai was okay like most restaurants. The service was slow. Went in on a Sunday around 9:45 AM. It was starting to get crowded, however we were able to be seated at a table. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. We had dim sum- we ordered several items. The food was really delicious. The custard piggy buns were out of this world, the pork buns and pork puff buns were amazing as were the sesame balls. Overall, the food was delicious. I would definitely go back. read more

I was told that "E-Buffet" became a dim sum restaurant shortly after they closed and really wanted to come try out their dim sum offerings. Nothing really changed from the transition but maybe some small interior fixations but overall, it is bright and nicely lit inside. I guess one good thing about this restaurant even when it was a buffet spot was that they have a "waiting" area with some seats so no one is freezing when its too cold or what not. We went the saturday after thanksgiving. Given that it was a holiday weekend, I knew heading there it would be pretty crowded and the wait time would be longer. We were a table of 9 which includes two kids and the wait was close to 30 minutes. Probably doesn't sound long but it felt like forever. I do notice that they had a lot more "smaller" tables that hold 4-6 people available and may not have anticipated bigger parties to come so the wait for larger tables were longer. While waiting, I did hear the managers of the restaurant asking to put a table top over the smaller tables to hold larger parties to move people along- smart but late.. they should have done this a while ago. We finally got seated and everyone was pretty hungry.. We ordered our usual stuff- siu mai, spare rib noodles, beef tripe, blahblah and they all were just okay. nothing really stood out. Then we ordered buns. they had piggie buns filled with custard. I normally love ordering these elsewhere so we tried it here. Not great- the custard was a darker yellow color than other custard buns I've had. We also got their salt egg custard buns (lau sa bao) and it was also a bit underwhelming. We did try their XO noodles with beef (my dad saw another table get this and wanted to try). that was also just okay Overall, i think they are more 3.5 stars but I've had better dimsum elsewhere. Dim sum is good here, has a nice variety. it's busy even on a week day. Try their asparagus dumplings, different and delicious. Their stir fried noodles are pretty good. We tried the house special stir fried rice noodles, it's super yummy and has unusual ingredients like different kinds of clams and macadamia nuts. As the first Yelp reviewer for this restaurant when it had its short run as E Buffet, I am glad they made the quick pivot to a sit down Chinese restaurant with dim sum in the morning. My observation of the buffet was that the food was good when it was fresh but it had issues with replenishing the dishes and keeping others fresh. Moreover, it was operating as a premium buffet so it was difficult to justify the price. As a made to order restaurant, those issues go away. I have had the dim sum to go and sat down at the restaurant. The food was very good and what I expected from dim sum. The flat rice noodles (Cheung fun) are very smooth. I really liked the beef ones. Another favorite of mine is the turnip cakes (lo bok go) and it was excellent there. The roast pork buns [with the white dough] was good and the pork was very hot. The other dishes we had to go and sit down were solid as well. We also ordered one entree, the mushroom yee mein. It was good and what I expected from the dish. Overall, I am happy that a dim sum spot is a quick walking distance from where I live and on my side of 86th street. The lines are out the door on holidays and weekends. came here for chinese new year dinner with the family for the first time and was so pleasantly surprised that we came again the week after for another chinese new year fam dinner !! food was so fresh and just so flavorful. without being over salted or over sauced, they honestly just let the freshness of the food shine. one thing you run into with these chinese banquet restaurants is that it leaves you super thirsty. i did not feel that here. so assuming that means they must not use a lot of msg. my fave dish i got was the lobster sticky rice. legit the best i've ever had. this place didn't make the sticky rice wet but very dry (dry in a good way LOL) so it was so fragrant. enough "wok hay" for my canto ppl. along with that their dimsum is prob my top 3 fave. best part about this place is the varieties !! there's lots of interesting dishes that lots of places don't have. also again not too salty or msg filled just the natural taste of the produce. dimsum is the first thing i'm going to eat once quarantine is done and this is where i'm coming !! read more

I come here often with my family to eat dim sum or we would get take out and sometimes dinner. Tonights service was horrible, the waiters who served us were super rude and not attentive to us. Firstly, the waiter who took our order, who was an older man dressed in black and white, had an attitude when we asked him to repeat our order and never did. Second, the waiter stood there hunched over our chair giving us an attitude while we were trying to order and when we asked him to repeat what he said cuz we couldnt hear him, he gave us a snappy and rude comment. Third, no one came to our table to change our plates as our plates were filled with bones even though we asked them nicely to change it. Lastly, majority of the waiters who were there tonight didn't pay us any attention even though they were standing next to our table. You can feel the unfriendlyness and unwelcome feeling radiating from them. I am seriously disappointed, and I hope the owner takes action and trains their staff better or hire better employees. It was ok. Some items were better than others. But all were cooked to order; nothing tasted dry or left out. The taro dumplings had the best flavor. The shrimp dumplings had chunks of shrimp and did not taste fishy at all. The spare ribs had no flavor, no fermented black bean but the rice noodle rolls were soft with a good bite. Worst place ever! Went here on Saturday for lunch. Arrived before 11AM, place was already packed, and people waiting for tables. Received number waiting to be called. Took over 1 1/2 hours before being seated and here are the reasons why: - number system is FAKE and FRAUDULENT, they put a circle next to people they know and seat them first. - saw waiters giving numbers to family, which obviously the waiter signed up for at the beginning of the shift, so once these people arrive poof they are seated promptly -employees will bring their friends/family inside the restaurant to wait for the next available table, SKIPPING the line altogether. -no system on how they call the numbers for seating- for instance they they call for 5 people while 3 or 4 people are waiting. They will seat 5+3 people over 4+4. They will also seat table of 12 who just arrived vs seating multiple families together to get to 12 people or so. So they will call # 35 which is for 12 place seating vs # 18(4ppl) + # 20 (6ppl) or etc.... lower number holders, you are so out of luck!!! - they will also seat people when their party is not all here yet, so 2 people hogging a table for 8. We booked a private room to celebrate a special event and the room was pretty big, could fit 3 tables comfortably. There was a karaoke machine that was blasting music all night, the default was at a deafening volume where you can't hear your neighbor talk. We had to keep adding songs to the playlist to adjust the volume and the staff wasn't very helpful. Besides that, the food was pretty solid. We had about 10 dishes which came with soup, and ended with a plate of fruit and breads (custard filling and phoenix bun filling with the melty sweet egg yolk). For some of the more common dishes (jelly fish, shrimp with walnut, snow pea leaves, mixed vegetables with macadamia/cashew) the flavors and quality of the cooking was pretty good compared to most of the chinese restaurants in Brooklyn. We also had a peking duck (they cut it up in the room on a side table and assembled it in the room but not by our table), this medley dish with fried anchovy? (it was really good) hainese chicken and braised quail, salted egg yolk dungeness crab dish, king crab fried rice with some black grained rice (added a nice crunchy texture), and king crab w/ garlic on a bed of vermicelli (my fave) that were all delicious and prepared well. read more

I came here twice and had negative experiences both times. Not even in Asia have I ever waited this long for a table (over 3 hours on a Saturday the first month this place opened) and recently had to wait 30 minutes on a Monday morning. We were put into a sharing table inside a room all the way in the back, as we waited 20 minutes for the dim sum carts to never appear. Gladly, we knew a staff leader and he moved us back to a sharing table in the main dining area where we can finally see the carts, but with nothing good available. The only options were buns and fried foods. There were no ha gow (shrimp dumping), siu mai (pork dumpling), fong jiao (chicken feet) available at all. The entire place is short-staffed and a rip off that only attracts rich pretentious locals who deeply admire the aesthetics of a "higher class" dim sum restaurant with valet parking. There are much better dim sum options in the area than this. Don't forget, this building used to be an American diner that was pretty epic and tasty, wow does this dim sum place make me really miss the staple Vegas Diner with jukebox tables. I almost forgot to mention that the food isn't that great at all. You will get a stomachache. It's not worth the wait, whether it's for the table or for the dim sum or dishes you will order. This has been my favorite dim sum place since COVID and I have been coming back again and again. The prices are a little higher now because of the pandemic so it can get pricey. My go to order: just get everything if you can! But honestly I'm really bad, I get whatever I see others getting cause I don't know what they are. So far I've been getting their don tat aka egg custard every visit because they're so goooood! Their char siu bao aka roast pork buns are good but not that best. I got this last time: beef ball, savory fried mochi thing, rice rolls with fried dough inside, steamed pork buns, spare ribs, taro dumpling, shrimp dumpling, beef spare ribs, stuffed jalepeno with shrimp, rice rolls with this vegetarian spring roll, dumpling thing called fun gwa and shumai. My boyfriend's family decided to host their NYE's dinner here! I wasn't expecting much because I read all the horrible reviews prior. I was surprised! They have valet and I paid $2 tip. It was rainy so the mood wasn't so great. I went inside and noticed everything was clean, well kept and brightly lit. We ordered a variety of dishes but my favorite was the pepper steak, mapo tofu, and clams in white wine sauce. The waiters were attentive even though the entire restaurant was FILLED. Came here for Dim Sum and dinner with my family. Dim sum was alright. No problems. Came for dinner after making a reservation. They couldn't find our reservation. No problem, didn't sweat it since they arranged a table for us in a few minutes. After we ordered several dishes we waited over an hour for our food. When we flagged down the one waiter who took our order it was clear he forgot to put it in on the first place. So after that food finally came. We ordered a total of 8 dishes. The first 5 came, cool, food was good. (Or I was so hungry that everything tasted good.) We worked on our dishes waiting for the last 3. Another 40 minutes. The one waiter didn't seem to be around so we had to flag down one of the managers. Even HE didn't get the dishes out. Had to find another guy who would give us the time of day. Also turns out that the one Japanese Beef we ordered never made it onto the ticket. When asked about how long it would take if we ordered now, manager just told us it would be better to come back and eat it another day. Golden Palace is one of my favorite places for dim sum. First off, excellent COVID service. They have outdoor and indoor seating. They have multiple heating lamps to keep you nice and toasty if you choose to sit outdoors. Their food is delicious as well. My favorite thing to get here would have to be the pineapple bun WITH custard, wowowow. Also, their roast pork pastry puff is so buttery and flakey. Their shrimp dumpling (ha gow) has nice size shrimps and it's very fresh. Also another bonus, they take credit card in addition to cash, I know some dim sum places only take cash and charge you a fee to use CC. Food comes out fast and fresh and I have nothing bad to say. It is the weekend after Chinese New Year, so I realize that it is busy. We came early at five to beat all the reservations, and we were finishing up a little after 6, as people started to really filter in. We asked for sweet soup, and the waiter told us there wasn't any. However, as we packed our leftovers away, we noticed other tables had them. Indignant, my friend's mom went to one of the managers and told him to get us a quart to go. If it is about timing, then just say so! You don't have to lie! Other than that, I think this place is amazing (service, other than that one guy, is hard to gauge, since my friend's cousin-in-law owns the place). They have valet parking, which is important in this area of Brooklyn. The place is huge (and was still packed for the Saturday after Chinese New Year). The food was amazing. Everything was incredibly fresh -- even the scallions on the fish was notably fresh! The decor is bright, and everything is new. I like the LED monitor they have for banquets. I didn't like how they placed sodas on the tables automatically. We don't normally order it, and because it was in line of sight, my friend's son immediately reached for it. Restaurant is pretty clean and new looking with valet parking which is a plus because it's impossible to find parking in 86th street. I liked that they have private rooms for larger groups. Since my family came here around 2:00pm which was pretty late, most of the dim sum were gone by then. I usually judge a dim sum place by their rice noodles (churng fun). The noodle texture was quite thick, ideally not what I prefer. Their noodle dishes were quite tasty especially the E-fu noodles. Portions are pretty huge. Service: It's normal in dim sum parlors for the cart ladies to be pushy, but they don't just force you to take their food and charge you for it. I was really looking forward to having some taro puffs, so I asked the only lady with a pastry cart if she had them. She responded with a raised voice, saying that the flat fried pancake/fritters/hash brown looking things in her cart were puffs. I knew that those were not puffs, but I didn't say anything. I simply said no, thank you. She continued to push us to take the fritters until my sister asked her about the filling of some buns in her cart. She told us what was in it, and we had no interest in that either, but she refused to take no for an answer.
