I have driven by so many times and haven't stopped and am so thankful I was invited to a lunch to try. Wow! What a pleasant surprise. Amazing service in a very clean location. There were five of us for lunch, and service was very pleasant, polite, and efficient. I ordered a lunch special of Mongolian Beef and wonton soup (included). In my quest for the best war su gai in Columbus a friend suggested I try golden Phoenix. It does seem to have a lot of flavor over some other restaurants. I appreciate that the yellow sauce is not gelatinous as it cools like I find at some restaurants. Additionally, the chicken has a lot of flavor with a nicely cooked crispy batter. I would give this place a higher rating, but you can only eat in or pick up your order. I have not found that the restaurant uses any delivery service making it a challenge to enjoy when you want to stay home. read more

We met three of our Yelp friends here for a lunch. It was a very fun lunch with a fabulous group of friends. What was just as nice was the food was just as fabulous. Both my husband I had never been here before. Parking was easy. They have a private lot which wraps completely around the restaurant... so lots of spaces to choose from. The front door is accessible from either side of the parking lot which was nice. We found the inside to be really nice. Doesnt seem to have been updated but was still pretty and really comfortable, roomy and had table cloths... which is always a bonus. Our server was very attentive, couldnt have been better. We each seemed to order something different. All of us commented our dishes were super! I ordered Moo Goo Gai Pan with light sauce on steamed rice. Excellent. It came with a cup of soup (I chose wonton). Perfection. Seriously. Each of us who had soup said their soups were so good. Conclusion: You cannot go wrong with their soup. My husband had Mongolian Beef. He said it was delicious. I don't think Ive ever heard him call Mongolian Beef delicious, so this is high praise from him. Been eating here, well at the old and the current location, since the early 1970's. Pops was friendly when he owned it, as was his son Bill when Pops retired. This remains the best Asian food in Central Ohio with interesting items. The Wor Sui Gai is by far my favorite- and hard to find elsewhere. Also, try the Wor Dip Har, bacon wrapped shrimp in a sweet sauce. The soups and egg rolls are also amazing (the hot mustard is legit!). Good food, good service for a large group, and definitely had that classic, "old school", Chinese restaurant vibe! My partner and I were invited to met up with some friends and acquaintances for dinner. I am so glad we were able to make it and had such a wonderful evening out. Good food and good conversations and the host picked this awesome spot. It made for a lovely Saturday evening and met some new friends. Parking appeared to be limited to the lot size. We arrived at the perfect time and found a spot while others took a bit more time to get a spot. There were 10 of us dining in total with about 6 different checks. The server did a good job keeping up with the orders but there was in mix up with one concerning the wrong order being charged to the wrong card. That was creatively fixed and it can happen in a large group with multiple checks. The food was absolutely delicious. I had potstickers ($6.50), an egg roll ($1.85), and sesame chicken ($12.25). All very yummy with good flavor. Only critiques were that they chicken potstickers (but we didn't ask and nothing was said), and the sesame chicken only had sesame seeds on half my order. Wasn't really an issue as the food was good. My partner enjoyed the Triple Delight ($13.25) with chicken, beef, and shrimp. I would say The Golden Phoenix is great for single dining, two people, or a family. I would also add they handle large groups really well as in addition to our group of 10, there was also a 40th Birthday party at the same time, with a pretty full restaurant. I recommend grabbing a meal here and would come back for another visit. In addition to the good food, I also want to highlight that we did not feel rushed at all. They were closed due to dead mice and mice feces. I use to go here a lot. This news was so disappointing but also there are always stray cats around. I live down the street. Mike G. organized an UYE for locals that I haven't seen in a few months, and since he loves Chinese food, I wasn't surprised one bit when I saw he picked this place. I hadn't been to this Chinese spot just north of 161 on Cleveland Ave. There's quite a good bit of space inside; it was pretty much full when we arrived at 5:45 pm on a Saturday evening. I went with my usual Crab Rangoon and Sesame Chicken. Their Crab Rangoon was good, nothing special. I still have yet to try anything better than Fortune's rangoon (R.I.P.!). Golden Phoenix's was more savory flavor compared to some that use sugar and cream cheese (yuck), which is a personal plus. Excellent chicken in the Sesame Chicken dish. Very tender and easy to cut and chew. The sauce was a bit different, can't describe it, but it was decent. The menu here has several options of for appetizers, main dishes, proteins, and desserts. I'd happily come back and try more things. I thought I saw they have (did?) a lunch buffet that reasonably priced and good quality. This was my first visit at this restaurant. I enjoyed my dish it was hot and tasty. My husband has been here before so he recommended it . We enjoyed our food we sat inside not many people which was nice . The happy delight is what I had and it had a variety of meat with vegetables in a brown gravy . I had to take a minute to leave a review. Their fried rice is the BEST EVER and I've been searching for over 50 years for the best fried rice and I've finally found it here. I've had it here 3 times over the last year and it's always consistently great. I live 40 minutes away or Id probably live here. Ive only eaten the fried rice and their shrimp egg rolls, and they're great too. Oh, and the staff has always friendly especially the man that was there yesterday. Next I had an eggroll that was very good with some great spices. The won ton soup is the best I have ever had! I love that they add some bbq pork, green onions, won tons of course and their broth is excellent. For our entrees, hubby had war su gai that is a crispy chicken dish with a light gravy and lettuce served with white rice. This is a dish that we have enjoyed it Ohio but not in any Florida restaurants. I guess we could ask in case there is a secret menu. This dish was great! Let me set the record straight. While the health department did shut down the restaurant for violations, they did remedy the problems and were back in the game today. Yay..that is my vote because this establishment has been a staple in this community for decades. It's hard to operate a business that deals in food prep and not have occasional issues. This is a great place to get a group together and enjoy Brest food! The restaurant is decorated in the traditional Chinese fashion. There is a lot to see and has a lot of interesting talking points. The food is very good and has a large variety to choose from! We have "shared" dishes just to try what someone else is having. I have never tried anything that I didn't like! The evening we were there , there were several parties going on! We had a short wait before we could order but our food arrived within a half hour or so. When we walked in was pretty noisy as the bar was up front and people were enjoying themselves and it was also the area for pickup/takeout orders and the place to be seated for dine in. This is a great Chinese restaurant and the crowd d supports this! It was full and had a group celebrating a birthday! Obviously a place with a loyal following of regulars. Met a group for dinner and since it was packed and loud, it was hard to have some conversations but the meal was very tasty. I tried a crab Rangoon from my daughters order and I have to admit I thought it was delicious (and I'm not one that likes this but this was a great exception for me!). My meal was the triple delight- it was full of meat and veggies. Most people ordered other dishes and everything looked delicious! Don't let the outside appearance fool you guys. It does look kinda sketchy from the outside but the inside is really pretty nice. It's neat, clean and the booths are pretty comfy too. The employees are always very welcoming to everyone who comes in. Let's talk about the food here. It's traditional Chinese American so whether you like War Sue Gai, General Tso's, Mongolian Beef, Mu Shu Pork or maybe you like Cashew Chicken, you'll find the food here is consistently good. I know, I've had them all. By the way, have you ever noticed those little chili symbols on Chinese menus? That means that it's supposed to be a hot and spicy dish. Most places tend to ignore this and make their food mild. Are you with me on this? Fortunately that's not the case here. On this particular visit, I ordered the Kung Pao with shrimp and it came out hot and spicy, just like it's supposed to be. Kudos to them for not dumbing down their dishes. Other reviewers have mentioned Karolla in their reviews and I will too. She's a really nice German lady that's been working there forever. She knows the menu and she's not afraid to make recommendations to you if need be. I hope you get her for your server. This restaurant has survived the intensely competitive Columbus restaurant scene since 1973. I'll admit I didn't even know this was here till a few weeks ago. Mike G. organized a get-together to celebrate my 1000th review, and we had a good group of Yelpers for a nice lunch here. It's an old-school Chinese-American place. Decor is typical; the place is larger than it looks and pretty nice inside. Service was great- they gave us a big table and lots of attention. Sweetie and I pretty much had our usual: shared crab Rangoon, she got lo mein, I got Mongolian beef. I should have asked for the dinner menu since it looks like they have more interesting options, but, no biggie, those are my typical items for the first time at a Chinese place, for comparison. The Rangoons were pretty darn good and it was a big order for the price. They were big and crabby, and a solid start to the meal. The sauce with them was okay, but the orange duck sauce on the table was great as an accompaniment. I also had an egg roll; I thought we had ordered two, but only one showed up and Sweetie didn't want it... It was pretty good, not amazing. I tried a bite of her lo mein (and will probably finish it off in the next couple of days.) She liked it. My Mongolian beef was a classic prep: tender beef, lots of scallions, on top of crispy rice noodles. Nice soy flavor to the sauce without being salty. I could have eaten more; the lunch portion was just enough, no leftovers. The fried rice I chose with it was fair; a nice counterpoint, but not very interesting on its own. We had a great time with old and new friends, and appreciated the good service. The price? I have no idea. Mike G. swiped the bill before I had a chance.
