Today was our first visit to Golden Pot. We have been looking for a good Chinese restaurant, since we lost our favorite in Richardson. Service was excellent. Very nice people. My husband loved the Hot n Sour soup. He is very particular about that soup. We both ordered from the lunch menu and it was a lot of food! I had the Sesame Chicken and my husband had the Chicken Kung Pao. Both were very good. Asked if we could have some hot mustard and our server asked if we would like some of their homemade. Seriously- BEST Chinese food that I've found in TX so far. They use quality white chicken meat which makes the dishes so much better. Prices are low and they have a great lunch special. The best part of this restaurant, however, is the staff. They are so friendly and are constantly checking on your table. This is the best Chinese food in the area. The Wonton Soup is awesome, the broth is extremely flavorful and the Wontons have a nice savory taste. The Hunan Pork is just perfect with just a touch of heat. The fried Pot Stickers are cooked amazing well and the dipping sauce accents the filling to provide an excellent experience. First time here and ordered sesame chicken. The server was ok and had to double check our orders about 3 times before bringing it out the food and still forgot my wife rice. The sesame chicken is SOO overly sweet almost like candied chicken. The garlic shrimp dish was delicious but when asked for another bowl of rice I was told I was going to be charged. Arrived for dinner at one of our favorite freshly prepared asian restaurants in Rowlett. When entering the first thing that struck me was the windows in the wall to the kitchen had been patched up and covered. I was disappointed as I would hold my daughter up and she enjoyed watching the kitchen hard at work preparing the dishes. Not one to be easily discouraged we were seated a party of 5 total. The server was attentive taking our drink order when the next surprise struck......THE MENU HAD CHANGED...oh boy I sat running through the new menu looking for our old favorites. The shrimp with lobster sauce was missing from the menu! My wife caught on fast as I waited for her to notice and quickly asked the server "what happened to the shrimp lobster sauce!" the server smiled and said "we have new owners, the menu is different but I think we still make it" we found a soup item on the menu called seafood soup that sounded similar so three orders of that to try, with happy family and some dumplings. The entries were 15, soup 5 so it didn't take long to get to $50 for party of 4. We enjoyed the soup and recognized the flavor and consistency of the sauce matched the old favorite. The steamed rice passed my wife's standards. The only thing that was a bit annoying was the server seemed awkward as they nearly dumped an entry on the table while placing the first one however we quickly pointed it out and it was a nice save. The entries were plated with no serving spoons so we had to ask for those. Our drinks ran dry and we had to flag down our server for refills. All in all the food was solid and up to standards however the service seemed a bit awkward. I'm sure with some training & experience that can easily be corrected. Love the use of real cloth napkins and elegant silverware. If I had on critique it would be to loose the 20" lcd tv on the big wall in the back that you have to squint to read any text or scrolling news. Go BIG here with the LCD or another direction. I have been to this place multiple times and I love it. My favorite dumplings are from Sushi Sake, however the dumplings here are a very close runner up! The wonton soup is very good as well! What I like most about this place is that the food is always fresh. I'm not nervous to try new things on the menu! My boyfriend and I enjoy going during lunch because it is usually not that busy and they give you a large portion for lunch, the dinner portion is quite large as well, I never finish, not even close.
