The order was Peking Shrimp, egg rolls, chicken fried rice, sizzling seafood, and we asked for house mustard, because, well we needed that burn. His seafood was good. Have been there too many times , and maybe 2 out of 20 are ok.. It's the only Chinese place around:(.. the food is never consistent (Peking ravioli too doughy, I can't figure out what's in the eggroll, chicken wings are deep fried and taste like burnt oil... ) the price goes up with each visit while they water down even the duck sauce .. the locals go there for keno and never leave except to go outside for a smoke of something ... so sad Jaffrey cannot have good restaurants read more

My wife and I are in the area for a couple weeks and thought we'd try this place out. It's average, or slightly worse than average Chinese food. We ordered a pu pu platter for two and house fried rice. The crab Rangoon had zero "crab" flavor (not even fake crab), they were basically just filled with cream cheese. The chicken wings were undercooked and couldn't be broken apart to eat them. The egg rolls were dry and tasteless. Of course, because they're mostly batter, we got 9 chicken fingers, which were OK but 90% batter and 10% chicken. The fried rice was just OK, rather dry, without a lot of meat, and small, especially given the price. Both items were WAY overpriced, the pu pu platter was $30 and the rice was $14. Not that I know Jaffey very well but by the looks of the town this place gets five stars. This restaurant was clean, for the most part; The service was friendly and prompt; The food fresh and enjoyable -- I'm not big on Americanized Chinese food -- but this was surprisingly very good. The vegetables were certainly fresh and made to order. The beef in the rice was tender. The mushrooms seemed canned and syrupy to me, but my Honey liked them. We have stopped here before and will probably again when in the area. What we really liked was the little bar they have off to the side. We didn't exercise that option this stop due to an anticipated strenuous hike up Monadnock early the next day. Smart move! This place is like a fast-food pizza-place, only instead with good Chinese and alcohol. A nice surprise in downtown Jaffery!! read more

One does not expect world class Chinese food (or ANY ethnic food, for that matter) in a tiny, lily-white town in the middle of nowhere...given those realistically low expectations, I was quite happy with this place. After all, it was the only Asian restaurant we could find after a day spent hiking up and down nearby Mt. Monadnock, working up quite an appetite. If you have a TomTom GPS like I do, it will be off by about a mile from where the place acually is. Luckily, a very friendly and nice local pointed us in the right direction...it's smack downtown...well, "downtown" as in central Jaffrey. Service was slow at first but after we placed our order the food came very fast. The food was bland as one would expect in this kind of locale, but the prices were quite reasonable and the portion size huge. We ordered two dishes that were allegedly "spicy" according to the menu...next time we'll know to request "extra spicy" and hope to get even close to "medium" on the heat scale. Ingredients were fine, the waitress was nice, the bill came promptly, and we left feeling full and happy that we managed to avoid going to any fast food chains or tourist trap restaurants (you know the type: overpriced for mediocre food that is claimed to be "authentic local"). They have a full bar, but the beer list is your typical dismal American corporate water-beers, with Heineken being the least-gross option. Saw lots of people coming in to pick up phoned in orders, which I imagine accounts for a large chunk of their business. read more

Crag Ragoon,Chicken fingers and General Tso's Chicken was very good,but the Spring Roll was fresh and the best that I've ever had. Usually a good place to grab take-out or eat in. We have been eating Chinese food ever since Eddie owned the place under a different name. The layout hasn't changed and they still offer a small bar setting. We have never experienced a poor waitstaff and the owner is usually there to help out during high traffic situations. The quality is similar to any other New England American Chinese Food restaurant. Something that is lacking in other parts of the country. Their crab rangoons, egg rolls, pork spareribs, and fried rice are all good. I always expect the food to be a bit greasy as it is mostly all fried. The prices are okay and the dinner/lunch combo portions are excellent. Its a must stop anytime I am back home. read more

I like Golden Wok. Straight forward and non-pretenteous American style Chinese fare. In my opinion, superior to Yen Yen in Peterborough and MUCH cleaner and friendlier. They don't over do it with the corn starch in their stir frying which is great. It's more of a traditional preparation the way it was done in the 70s and 80s. Very nice Chow Mein. My advice is to keep it simple and avoid combos and specials. They are not that special. Fried rice, soups and appetizers are always good. Oh, Egg Foo Yung is also a good dish to share along with fried rice! Bar service is always good, friendly and pretty reasonable. Good selection but I wish they offered some craft beers (IPA's). My wife and I had dinner here today after dropping my truck off for repairs. The place was fairly empty and we were promptly seated. Our waitress was pleasant and brought us our drinks quickly and took our orders. It only took a couple of minutes for her to return with steaming bowls of soup. I had the hot & sour soup and it was savory and flavorful. The Mrs pronounced her egg drop soup as very tasty. Just as we finished our soup our waitress returned with our dinners. My crispy sesame chicken arrived hot, crispy as stated, served with a modest amount of lightly steamed broccoli and very good but was just a bit heavy on the sauce. It was served with a bowl of freshly made (read not sticky -starchy) white rice. My wife enjoined a combo plate of chicken wings, boneless spare ribs and chicken fingers with fried rice. We both enjoyed our dinners very much and found the portions to be so generous that we couldn't finish them. Take out boxes were provided for us to bring our leftovers home. There was so much food on our plates it was like getting two meals for the price of one. I paid using a credit card and there wasn't any additional cost or fee for using it. I love going in and sitting at the bar after a long day at work. Sue and her family are so incredibly warm and gracious. Because of this it has become a local hangout. If you love blandness, this is the place for you. However, there's paucity of Chinese joints hugging the Monadnock, so this might be your best bet. (+) Man is this place clean. (but otherwise unremarkable) (-) The pork fried rice, though some of the darkest I've ever seen (which would indicate soy sauce one would think), were somehow bland, lacking salt, and kind of crunchy. (-) The egg rolls were very bland as well: A deep fried roll of wet sawdust. (-) The General Tso's Chicken was a mixed bag: They used dark meat, and created a a crispy coating (both good signs), but the sauce was too sweet and devoid of the usual spicy kick to the teeth that I look for. THE BOTTOM LINE: (+) Despite the blandness, its still the best option for several miles around. Just ask for extra sides of hot mustard, and make sure you have salt in your house. read more
