We ordered take out last night. The food was average but the menu on their site had old pricing. A combination platter with 1 substitution was supposed to be $11.95 + $1.50 (which is a little high already), but when I got there, the NEW price was $13.50 + $1.50. And the substitution was to swap an egg roll for Chicken Teriyaki of which I only got 1 skewer. Give me a break. With taxes it cost me $16.95 FOR 1 PLATE OF FOOD! That's just crazy. We were pleasantly surprised with how good The Golden Wok was. We just went there with the kids and the food was great overall. All the veggies were crisp and fresh in all the dishes - we had chicken with cashews, peking dumplings, chicken lo mein, mu shu pork and a vegetable dish with green beans, broccoli and snap peas. The wait staff was very attentive and the interior of the restaurant was clean and bright. We are from the Boston area and have access to great Chinese food but in the Jaffrey area good Chinese food was hard to come by until now. I wish The Golden Wok luck and hope they get lots of business. read more

If you like cold, standoff-ish wait staff, animal feed grade produce, and overall disappointment.. brother, this is your place. My girlfriend literally took two bites of her General Blows I mean General Tso's chicken, but couldn't stomach anymore due to it's disturbingly bizarre texture. I had to experience this delight for myself, and almost had mouthful down before piling the half-eaten mess on my plate. The pork in the fried rice was delightfully grisely, so I added that to my half-eaten mound from time to time as well. The prepackaged fortune cookies were definitely the highlight, and the service was so bad I left $0 tip, which I've only done a handful of times in my entire life. Been in Jaffrey for almost 5 years never got anything bad from this place until today. Rice tasted old chicken was pre cooked and egg foo yung was a disaster. Just recently opened. ok food for not too many options for chinese in the area. pork fried rice is TERRIBLE. pupu plater is decent size ( i bet in 6 months its not as big) food in it is average, most likely generic usfoods or sysco food since it taste exactly the same as majority of other chinese foods. read more

My wife and I have been eating here roughly every two weeks for the past few years. This is a very good Chinese restaurant with friendly waitresses that recognize us and remember what we like to order. My favorites include dinner specials #4 and #10 (one of them is cashew chicken, the other is lo mein), the pu pu platter for two, and moo goo gai pan. The soup they serve first is good; I usually get the egg drop, which has a nice touch since they add bits of peas, carrots and water chestnut in it (most places just have egg). Crab rangoon, egg rolls, beef/chicken teriyaki, all delicious. Sometimes we get margaritas, also yummy. Note that the Jaffrey tap water tastes not so good, so you may not want to just have water to drink, although we usually do. We usually have leftovers enough for another complete meal. The waitresses and the Chinese family who owns the place are all terrific. It is common to see two of their little children helping out. Yeah, it is not some kind of award winning fine dining, but it is good stuff, and your choices in rural NH are limited. It's my favorite restaurant in Jaffrey. There are no other Chinese restaurants unless you head north on 202 into Peterborough... Yen Yen is a similar style of Chinese food with nice folks but a bit of a dumpy building, and Mt. Fuji nearby has more high-end fancy food (and higher price), but in the end Golden Wok is our favorite. read more

The restaurant has a new owner. She fixed the place up real nice. Its more open and clean and bright. Over the past two weeks the quality has improved a bunch. I noticed they are adding more pork to the rice! I heard some of the other customers talking about how she got a lot of fresh organic ingredients from the Boston area. Stopped here after a bicycle ride , was looking for a drink and a snack , ok it's been a month and I still can't stop talking about there crab Rangoons , they are by far best I have ever had !!! I will stop there next time by for sure, we had steamed dumplings , were yummy and Scorpion bowl was refreshing . We sat at the bar. All the tables were dirty , or had dirty plates left on them . I've had better food but for new hampshire this place is pretty good, one of my favorites actually. The food isn't cold or anything and the portions they give you are decent sized, usually enough to take home and have later. Its Chinese food, and its the closest place that is dicent for about 15 miles. In a larger city with more options I would rate this a 3 star restaurant but for the area it is good. I can't complain about the food, but at times it does seem they are a bit overwhelmed. I have never sat at the bar, or even ate in the restaurant but always get take out. The family that runs the place is very nice and helpful. If you want Chinese around this area go here. read more

Friendly, fun, hometown dining. A great value...They do well making Chinese restaraunt favorites such as crab rangoon, peking ravioli, and chix fingers, but definitely try some of the dishes in the back of menu for something unique. I love this Chinese restaurant. It's not the best Chinese I've ever had, but it's very good and a decent price, especially if you eat in. Their lunch specials are the best. This the only chineee food place in town so it has a bit of a captive audience so to speak. The food generally is very good and the portions are generous. If you don't like fried food, there are plenty of other options on the menu. Tha dining room is always clean and the take-out is always hot and ready when they tell you to pick it up. When dining in the waitstaff is attentive and you'll be seated at a clean table. Motion seconded on the crunchy crab fangoons but really how flavorful can fried cream cheese be ? absolutely love the food and service here, my absolute favorite and the crab rangoons are THE BEST EVER! The alcoholic mixed drinks are something to lack. Waitresses are not well versed in what some of the drink mixes are (eg. carrot cake shot was made with no Kahlua and more hot damn then baileys) and my strawberry daiquiri was absolutely disgusting and I couldn't get it down if I tried. other than that highly, highly recommend. read more

I drove past this place a number of times and thought is that a hidden gem! The place has a old, kind of a local haunt feeling. Small bar area that seems comfy! Table clothes were a bit dirty, but over all place seemed okay! The reviews were good, with a common theme ..this Chinese place was best this area has to offer! The menu has lots of options. We visited at lunch time and ordered a lunch portion of Szechuan chicken and beef and broccoli. Both had pork fried rice as a side. I ordered the crab Rangoon and my wife ordered chicken fingers. For starters we both had hot and sour soup. The soup was a bit sweet which was helped with some soy sauce. The main dishes were real good with lots of flavor! Rice was great! I found the crab Rangoon lacking flavor but not bad and the chicken fingers having the same issues! If in the area ... this place is a good option when craving Chinese food! read more

I really like the food here, I was glad to find a decent chinese place when we moved to Jaffrey. The Moo Goo Gai Pan is excellent and I love their chicken lo mein. I can't speak to the dining experience in house, because we always do take out. However, they are always really quick with the orders and the food is hot and always tasty. read more

I love going to Golden Wok whenever I want Chinese food. Friends and I have ordered several different things on the entree menu, and all have been amazing. My recommendation is the General Tso's chicken. The only disappointment I have had at Golden Wok is the Crag Rangoons, which are almost all cream cheese and nearly no crab. I have always had friendly service, and all three times I have eaten in they have given us a complimentary appetizers to try. read more

We've only ever gotten take-out here. When they first opened they had, hands-down, the best crab rangoon I've ever had. Since then we've noticed they REALLY skimp on the crab - like 95% cream cheese, 5% crab, so that's a bummer, but I don't do dairy any more anyway so it doesn't affect me, & the kid's still like it. It was really hopping the first few weeks after they opened but since then it's petered off quite a bit. They put out coupons when they first opened & one of them was for 50% off your order of $35 or more. We ordered $70 of Chinese food expecting to get 50% off & they said THEY worded the coupon incorrectly - they meant you could get $35 of Chinese food for 50% off, not 50% $35 or MORE & they refused to honor the coupon even though THEY messed up!! That left a bad taste in my mouth. The veggie lo mein is too dry for my tastes. We still eat there but we're not crazy about it. read more
